General Information

An ancient Kuronii branch-tribe, the Riddarnir split off from the main Western Kuronii tribe at some point during the Second Golden Age and came to dwell on the plains west of Venturil.

While retaining many aspects of their original Kuronii culture they quickly adapted to life on the plains, becoming nomadic herdsmen dependent on their horses for survival. The horse is therefore an integral aspect of Riddarnir life, art and culture.

The Riddarnir are presently ruled by Jarl Jorgun Ironseat, with the succession expected to go to his eldest son, Avaldi Jarlsson (also called Avaldi Half-Arm).

Jorgun Ironseat is famed for uniting, in his youth, the many disparate groups of Riddarnir people into a cohesive whole for the purpose of more effectively defending their territories against the minotaurs, with whom they have had a long-standing slow war. Thus, Jorgun became the first Jarl in many hundreds of years to establish unity among his people.

The Riddarnir are insular and xenophobic, with a hard-wired distrust of strangers and a deep-seated dislike of all non-humans, particularly dragons, minotaurs and all types of undead. Isolated by choice since ancient times, they are presently faced with the fact that this may prove to be a weakness rather a strength. Due to the efforts of Avaldi Jarlsson and his half sister, Raidh Jorgunsdotr (wife to King Eboric of Venturil) the Riddarnir are slowly rejoining the rest of Kuronii civilization and becoming somewhat less intolerant to a select few non-human races.

They do not take to change easily, and the road to tolerance promises to be a long and difficult one.
