A Word from the Guardian of Sage:

Bottom line up front: The rumors swirling in Vailkrin about Kelay-Sage are just that. Rumors. Kelay-Sage has forever been known as a welcoming territory. Kelay-Sage is not home to one type of people. We welcome all walks of life and will continue to do so. There is not a single person being held against their will here as there is not an encampment for forced labor.

Larket and Vailkrin choosing to align themselves with each other is entirely on them. Kelay-Sage has no say on the matter, but the situation will not be ignored due to the close proximity of Larket to Northern Sage.

Kelay-Sage will be represented by myself and Meri Lyastri D'Chath at the upcoming peace summit in Enchantment. We are wishing Enchantment a well organized meeting of the area leaders and are looking forward to having a civil conversation with them.

~The Guardian of Sage, Magikrios Lyastri D'Chath~

Kelay Village Garden:
Come check out the new community garden just west of the town hall! Enjoy both imported and native fruits and vegetables! This garden is managed by the Kelay-Sage locals, but will never turn down a volunteer! Remember, "Take a plant, leave a seed!"

Laborers Wanted:
Are you skilled with design? Do you have a talent for construction? Or experience managing large scale projects? If yes, please reach out to Magikrios and Meri Lyastri D’Chath. There are several projects that they would like to see undertaken to renovate and revive the area.

Locals and visitors be cautious!
There's a pack of mischievous pixies flying up and down Kelay Way looking to steal any drinks, food, gold, or gifts you may have purchased while shopping throughout the district! Nets and jars will be provided to the shops along the Way incase of an invasion. Please do not harm the pixies! Once captured in a jar, leave the jar outside of Kelay Tavern and they will be delivered back to Enchantment. Gathering of the jars will happen three times a day. Happy hunting!

UPDATE: The Hoy Trees: Temporary Loss of Magic

A number of mages and healers gathered at the Xalious tree in order to finally cure it so that magic could finally be restored. It at first seemed as though this would be an endeavor that would pass without incident but the would-be healers of the Xalious Tree were ambushed. While they fought valiantly against this mystery threat, the group was eventually overcome and made the bold and brash decision to attack the tree with fire. The end result was that the Xalious Tree was burned to its death, causing the connection to arcane magic to be entirely severed for several minutes.

The fate of the world might have been sealed with that very decision but it seems the gods have not abandoned us. A giant moth could be seen flying away from the village of Xalious and toward the mountain range. After this sighting, the connection to arcane magic was restored. The Xalious Tree is currently not back to it’s former glory, but it lives on.

In the years that the Mage’s Guild has claimed guardianship over the arcane Xalious Tree, it has never faced a single threat. Yet it has been attacked twice. The Mage’s Guild also recently lost their tower to a group known as the Ossian Order for an extended period of time. Is this a sign that the once mighty guild is starting to see its ruin?

Destruction in Frostmaw

The region of Frostmaw is currently suffering from widespread death and destruction as a result of an attack from a creature known as Xicotl. The Warrior’s Guild have been trying for a long time to figure out how to rid Lithrydel of Xicotl but they were not able to defeat it before this force and the thralls under its control ran rampant through Frostmaw. The death toll is high and still climbing. Those who did manage to escape death find themselves without a safe place to return to, for their homes have been utterly annihilated in the attack. The government of Kelay-Sage has stepped up to provide aid to the survivors of this attack, helping to set up a refugee camp just at the base of the mountain to provide people of Frostmaw with a safe space to sleep, eat, and have access to necessities while they regroup and rebuild.

Life in Kelay-Sage

When compared to our neighboring regions, life in Kelay has been peaceful. There is little to report other than the Golden Sa’vre, located in the northwest portion of the Kelay forest, has been sold to a new owner. The previous owner explains that the reason for the sale is very simple, he and his wife simply wish to retire. What will the new owners have in store for us?

Headline News: The Druid's Eternal Tree Finally Healed

In the late hours of what was meant to be a restful Yuletide night, citizens of Kelay Town and the neighboring Sage Forest tribes were awoken by another disturbance from the Druid’s Tree area. The fae and druidic keepers of the Eternal Temple that live on-site have confirmed that a group of individuals came with the intention of performing a healing ritual on the Eternal Tree.

The Eternal Tree has suffered for two years after what can only be described as an act of terrorism on all magic.

Whatever transpired seems to have begun to restore not only the Eternal Tree, but the remainder of the Kelay-Sage forest. As reported by Toross Carfiel, an arborist with 1,500 years of experience, “The rot produced by new elves entering the area has been observed reversing itself, even during the yearly pilgrimage of elves away from the winter frost. It's the first of its kind, and proof that Tiphareth’s curse is waning.”

Experts from Vailkrin had originally estimated that Kelay-Sage would be uninhabitable by any refugees or descendents of the refugees for at least a millenia; it is unclear at this time whether curse-altering magic was involved or not. The restoration of Sage Forest as the main home of wood elves comes at a welcome time, given the recent unrest in Cenril and Xalious.

This reporter also learned that the live-in druids of the Eternal Temple have ceased their investigation into the trio that originally poisoned the Eternal Tree. While they have not disclosed the reason for this, they have assured citizens that nothing indicates further drow antagonization. More on this story as it develops.

Living in Kelay

There seems to be an increase of lycan presence within the Kelay-Sage area. There exact numbers are unknown and if they have any pack affiliations is not clear, but there were reports of a trio being attacked by a group of lycans.

A drow that has been identified as Mesdoram seems to be plaguing the Kelay-Sage area and leaving threatening notes on the public board. He has already been connected with one gruesome battle that caused significant damage to Sage Forest. Is this a sign that they will soon attempt another invasion? Caution is advised when traveling through the forests, doing so without a companion or weaponry is ill-advised.

A forest fire in South-Eastern Sage is alleged to have been started by a drow mage and his undead doll. According to reports from sources in the Underdark, the fire attracted drow scouts who engaged the pair in askirmish, leaving three of four scouts dead. The survivor claims that the mage in question bore no known drow house’s insignia. The Crier warns residents to be alert to this rogue drow mage, who is said to favor lightning magic and can be identified by white spots on his face and neck. The three children who went missing in the Sage Forest on the last day of summer have still not been found. Volunteer investigator, Mage’s Guild apprentice Kurius Jorge, has pieced together mystical clues which lead Mr Jorge to believe that witchcraft may be afoot. Mr Jorge would draw your attention to the fact that the last day of this past summer was a peculiar day. The bleeding birches^ bared their branches, it snowed, and the two moons and five planets (excluding our own) of our solar system aligned. Mr Jorge finds these coincidences to be highly unusual. The Crier is collecting any information from the public which may be of use in finding the children.

^ The bleeding birch is a rare species of birch which defoliates in the course of one day in late summer or early autumn. When the leaves fall, its ruby sap seeps out of the branches and gives the appearance of a bleeding tree. World famous crooner Joseph Phatone, of In Sink fame, dined with a group of finely dressed ladies in Kelay Tavern last weekend. Tragedy befell when an illiterate and inebriated patron exclaimed, “Hail! Are you not one of the Back Alley Boys?” The women in Phatone’s company, finding no humor in the joke or forgiveness in the error, pounced on the patron and initiated one of the bloodiest pub brawls in recent Kelay Tavern history, leaving 3 dead and 7 injured. Phatone was seen fleeing the scene shouting “Bye, bye, bye!”

Crime and Punishment

Violent anti-drow outbreak! A scouting party of drow was found slain in the Northern Sage Forest. Although evidence linking this attack to the attack committed on Kelay Way in early July is weak, authorities say their prime suspect is the same winged, drow-like beast who attacked the drow on Kelay Way. Also party to that original skirmish in July were Frostmaw’s Steward Hildegarde the Silver, warrior Krice, and Leone the Blacksmith. They are not suspects in this most recent attack as of the time of writing.

In line with this spate of violence, an albino, female feline brought a drow’s head into Kelay Tavern to the table of ranger Skylei Lucindio. When asked about the incident, Ms. Lucindio had this to say to The Crier, “I have no idea who that deranged feline is! I had never met her before. She is clearly suffering from some sort of mental condition. I hope she receives the treatment she obviously needs, as soon as possible. I think the violence has been horrific.” It is unclear at the time of publishing if the feline is responsible for the killing, or if she found the head. The body has yet to be found. (ooc: Both of these drow killings happened in relation to the ongoing arc, Surface Tension. To get involved, contact Skylei and Gevurah.)

Think only the drow need to watch their backs? Think again. A vampire attacked a woman in Kelay Tavern during the busy business hours. The woman, Sorcha, was conversing with a friend, Crisien, when the pair was approached by a friendly man who seemed acquainted with Sorcha. Witnesses say that the man lunged at Sorcha the moment he was within arm’s reach of her. He took her by the neck, bit her, and began to suck her blood. The vampire ceased the attack before inflicting any lasting damage or turning the victim. The vampire was quoted as saying that he was simply “regaining what was lost” and stated that the incident will be repeated in the future. He fled before he could be detained. The women left before they could be questioned, but The Crier caught up with Crisien shortly after the attack. "I don't bloody know what was going on. I'm new to these parts. That vampire guy was pretty odd - you know, I didn't catch his name. Sort of spoke like he was, I don’t know, some kind of prophet. Spoke about something called … Khasad? I don’t know who or what Khasad is, but I won't be searching for him. Not if he's anything like the vampire, anyway." (ooc: Contact Malgous to get involved.)

The termite infestation continues to expand. Several residents have abandoned their homes to the termites. These termites are not native to the Sage Forest, and originate from the plains of Venturil. No one knows how they crossed the Xalious Mountains. Local entomologist Bugsby Beetfly is working to find a way to incentivize the termites to flee The Sage Forest by making the environment unsuitable for this very aggressive species. However, so far none of her efforts have yielded the desired effect. (ooc: Adventurer types should contact Josleen and Rhosorien to pursue this plot.)

Fatal skirmish on Kelay Way! A lethal confrontation occurred on Kelay Way which left a squadron of seven Trist’oth drow dead. Eyewitnesses say the fight was provoked by an unnamed, shadowy creature which resembled either a dragon, or a winged drow, or a half-drow half-bat hybrid monster. The unidentified monster initiated the brawl by attacking the drow squadron. The stealth attack confused the squadron who mistook their attacker for a trio of commuters: Frostmaw Steward Hildegarde, warrior Krice, and blacksmith Leone. Hildegarde and Krice tried to deescalate the situation, but could not succeed in quelling the ill temper of the drow. The two heroes defended themselves from retaliation, ending the lives of three Trist’oth soldiers. The monster fled the massacre by flight after killing four drow in total. Hildegarde is pursuing justice and asks that anyone with any information about the monster please come forward.

Several residents have been reporting unusual termite activity in recent weeks. Termite infestations have taken hold of five households in the span of ten days. The Crier has identified local carpenter’s Deborah Murillo’s workshed as the ground zero of these infestations. Local entomologist Bugsby Beetfly states that the most peculiar aspect of this infestation is that this species of termite is not native to the central plateau. “You may find this species out in the plains of Venturil. A man by the name of Tyler Dyalus has turned himself in as the sole perpetrator of Carol Sage’s abduction and murder. Dyalus claims he had no accomplice. Frostmaw Knight Hildegarde the Silver took Tyler to the Sage family to discover their desired justice, as is custom in Sage Forest law. The Town Crier has come to learn that at the time of the crime Dyalus was not himself and suffering an arcane affliction which robbed him of choice and character. These claims cannot be verified. The grieving Sage family reports that their handling of the situation with Tyler is private, but they did make a statement saying that they believe Hildegarde and Tyler Dyalus when they claim the current iteration of Tyler Dyalus had no choice in the abduction and murder of Carol Sage. Several Kelay-Sage residents are not pleased by this turn of events. “I respect our ways and our customs, and I understand that this is a difficult time for the Sage family. Indeed, the case has grown complicated and confusing. I wonder if the Sage family is emotionally well enough to properly carry out their daughter’s justice?” asked one Sage resident who wished to remain anonymous. “Where is the justice? I say, where is the justice?” Others question the testimony that Dyalus acted alone. One key and enduring facet of this case was the initial eye-witness account of two perpetrators. Local carpenter Alan Thisk theorizes that Dyalus is covering for his accomplice, and that this obstruction of justice is the same as still perpetrating the same crime against Carol Sage.
