Therianthrope

From HollowWiki

A therianthrope is, simply, a shapeshifter. Different from their arcane and druidic counterparts, these shapeshifters typically take the shape of just one animal. They can either be born as said animal hybrid or turned. Some are classified as a disease while others are curses. The most popular of these shapeshifters are lycans, though there are several other kinds. Scientists and scholars well-informed of the malady are unsure as to how many types of these specific shapeshifters there are, but so far the list is just confined to those below. Those that opt out of scholarly activities know of these creatures by their simpler names, which starts with the prefix ‘were-’ and ends with the animal they shapeshift into (ie: werewolf).
Please note that all listed therianthrope, besides lycans, require admin approval.

  • Lycanthrope
    • Animal: Wolf
    • Affliction Type: Curse
    • Weakness: Silver, Vampiric Blood
    • The most prominent of the therianthropes. These shapeshifters have plenty of information gathered about them, which can be found here.
  • Ursanthrope
    • Animal: Bear
    • Affliction Type: Curse
    • Weakness: Silver, Vampiric Blood
    • Another well documented version of therianthrope, despite the fact that not many of them have been seen in person, as lycanthropes have been. More information about them can be found here.
  • Cynanthrope
    • Animal: Dog
    • Affliction Type: Curse
    • Weakness: Silver, Vampiric Blood, Chocolate
    • Weredogs operate in much the same ways as werewolves and werebears. In the case of weredogs, however, they are usually species of wild dogs rather than domestic dog breeds. That is to say, a weredog will likely transform into that of a jackal, dingo, or fox, instead of a golden retriever or pug.
  • Ailuranthrope
    • Animal: Cat
    • Affliction Type: Disease
    • Weaknesses: Gold, Amaryllis
    • Unlike the other therianthropes, Ailuranthropy is not a curse. Instead, it is a disease brought on by the Toxoplasmosis virus that runs rampant through all species of cat, both domestic and wild. Similarly to rabies, once a patient starts exhibiting symptoms, it is likely too late to try to get rid of the virus, as things have already shifted into a full on disease. The problem with treating the virus, however, is that there is so little knowledge around why some strains of Toxoplasmosis are stronger than others. Currently, there is no cure for this affliction. The act of shapeshifting itself for a werecat is similar to that of other therianthropes, with similar triggers as well. While the others are triggered by the full moon, a werecat's transformation is triggered by major solar flares. These happen 2-3 times per month. Minor flares may cause mood swings. Stress and anger are also well known triggers for therianthropes. In human form, these shapeshifters are granted the same enhanced sense of smell and hearing that the others have, as well as the ability to extend and retract their claws. And finally, on the topic of weaknesses, while vampiric blood does not harm ailuranthropes in the same way that they do lycans and the others, they cannot be turned into vampires whatsoever.
