Talk:Arc:The Ice Plague Cometh

From HollowWiki

This is the rough template for some of the battles to take place in the coming week. Please feel free to sign up for any that you wish. Your character does not need to be a fighter to participate. Healers are needed, as are messengers, spies, enemies, etc. If you can think of a reason to be involved, than you are quite welcome to join in! This arc could only exist because of the participation and spontaneous ideas of other players, after all.

As well, people are invited to create additional battles, all that is asked is that they show respect to the NPCs on BOTH SIDES. Additional battles can take place without announcement, if a player involved wishes to start one and invite others present to join up. I only ask that you hmail any RPs done that I'm not present for, so it can be recorded to the Arc. Thank you! Any questions, comments, and likewise can be hmailed to me. Information is also available of the Arc page and Frostmaw's News page on the wiki. -Satoshi (talk) 00:42, 20 January 2014 (UTC)

Aerial Battle

A battle taking place in Frostmaw's skies, with Cryothain and The Eyrie's forces clashing against the captured wyverns, drakes, and undead dragons of the Exiles. Participants should have means to fight in the air, by they as members of Eyrie, as naturalborn fliers, by hi-jacking a riderless mount, etc.

Faith Battle

  • Date/Time (Hollow Time): Hmail, via Eliason

With devoted followers of various Gods gathering in Frostmaw for the war effort, it is no surprise their opposing forces should be drawn toward one another. From the dedicated paladin Eliason to the Aramoth followers of the North, Frostmaw's forces will have to contend with Hrathgar's Vakmatharas Deathknights and the Exiled mage-hunter Aramoth monks, skilled in their primal close-combat ways.

Confrontation of Leaders

  • Date/Time (Hollow Time): In-Progress

Frostmaw's Queen and the Exile's Commander have spent a long time each preparing for this final confrontation. Each believes they have the upper hand in the coming battle, but the Gods alone know who will triumph over the other. It is rumored one of the Gods themselves will walk beside the Snow Maiden into this battle. But what walks beside Hrathgar?

NPC Forces

A layout of some of the forces on the battlefield. Those involved are invited to exercise their creativity, although do try to stay true to the region, please. :3

Enemies

Ice Devils: The bane of any fighter unfamiliar with their species. They possess a "Snow Blink" technique, which allows them to teleport into any space with snow that isn't in their target's line of sight. This makes for a lethal ambushing style, especially on those who have never seen an Ice Devil before. They are intelligent, ruthless, and strive to produce negative emotions/energy on the battlefield, as that is their food source. http://www.hollowgame.com/wiki/Ice_Devil

Forsaken Monks: Before exile, these giants were devoted monks of Aramoth, masters of hand-to-hand combat and blunt weaponry, and specializing in mage-hunting techniques. They are skilled at using anti-magic nets, sigils, and other such items to disable mages for capture. After exile, they felt their loyalty to Aramoth betrayed and wavered from his path, selling their warcraft as mercenaries. Only a small band of them remain, with a number of them killed in their attempt to capture Svilfon and Satoshi. They are leaderless after the failed attempt. They are also disgruntled, for they do not trust their mysterious boss (a follower of Vakmatharas), and his methods go against their own beliefs. They remain on for the pay, although a few enjoy the fights.

Chimeras: The horrors of the Exile army. There is no true or proper name for these creatures. They are the result of experiements, necromancy, and primitive alchemies: corpses of varying victims, fused together in a patchwork style, welded to armor, and reanimated to produce a variety of 'beasts' on the whismy of the deathknights. Most lack anything resembling intelligence or emotion, numb to pain as they respond only to their directives: destroy. They are virtually immune to magic, spells reflecting off their mutilated flesh to rebound onto the caster--and anyone else unlucky enough to be in the vicinity. Mundane weapons harm only the flesh, otherwise tending to bounce off the armor segments fused to them. Blunt weapons are all but useless as the 'things' feel no pain and can only be stopped by being sliced/torn into inoperable pieces. As if their presence and near invincibility is not horrifying enough, most of these creatures are created from Frostmaw citizens, whose corpses were stolen after they'd died from the plague--the plague aiding in their flesh being manipulated by necromancy more easily. They have a single achille's heel: each has a fluorite gem embedded in their body (typically near the head) that serves as a fuel source. Removing it will dismantle the beast.

Deathknights: Something of an "elite guard" to the Exiles' leader. While some are frost giants, most seem to be human, or humanoid--criminals, exiles, etc of various races such as frost elves, felines, vampires, etc. All are followers of Vakmatharas with moderate to adept skills in channel his unholy energies. They wish to see Aramoth and his city destroyed, in favor of raising a citadel to Death where Frostmaw stood. There seems to be a secret shared between them concerning their boss, although they're equally willing to die before saying what it is. They are unfalteringly loyal, painfully smug, and frightfully bloodthirsty. The more blood they spill, the happier they'll be.

Ice Trolls: A great, hulking subspecies of troll (think the Moria Troll in Lord of the Rings, save covered in frosted flesh with huge, icicle tusks). Lacking in intelligence, they make up for it with raw strength, a certain degree of numbness to pain, and a rapid regeneration ability. They have trouble telling friend from foe and tend to simply charge forward swinging without a care for who they hit. Mage-fire is the surest way to kill them, as wherever it burns the trolls are unable to heal. Natural fire works if it can burn hot enough to get through the initial layer of ice over their skin. Beheading them is the only other known method to kill them, and often at the extreme peril of whomsoever gets close enough, for the headless body will thrash around violently for a long time afterwards.

Snowflake Imps: The deathknights have enslaved small swarms of these creatures. While a single imp is as threatening as a housecat, in a pack they can shred targets with the efficiency of piranhas. They thrill in stealing weapons and armor, so that other fighters can better destroy the target. Overall, they're pranksters with a vicious streak that are unleashed by the deathknights to create chaos. They're easily killed with force, magic, and especially fire. A nuisance more than a genuine threat on the battlefield.

Frostmares: The mounts of the deathknights. Aside from having a mean kick, sharp teeth, and being armored, they are not a threat alone. http://www.hollowgame.com/wiki/Captured_Frostmare

Among the monks and deathknights are regular infantry forces, a smattering of humanoids but mostly exiled frost giants--of whom wear poor armor, rusted, dented, or ill-fitting. The best gear seems to be reserved for the deathknights, a sore point to many of Hrathgar's followers. The Exiles have been forced to live a meager life in Frostmaw's wilds, which makes them poorly geared yet cunning fighters in the wooded terrains.

The Exiles have next to no aerial combatants left, having lost nearly every ice wyvern and undead dragon in the battle against The Eyrie. They have captured wildlife from throughout Frostmaw, however, such as Winter Wolves--lean, mean, and hungry, a few old mammoths, some frost worms, and etc. Information/ideas can be found here: http://www.hollowgame.com/wiki/Category:Frostmaw_Creatures

Anything else, I leave to your own creativity. :3 Cook up characters on either side, do what comes spur of the moment, it's all yours!

Allies

Frostmaw forces- Frost Giants, former-Sage Elves, Eyrie fliers. The Frost Giants have been born and raised in combat. They are well armed and armored. The Sage Elves have begun to adapt to their arctic home, most of them specialize in ranger or forestry skills, alongside a number of druids, elementalists, spellblades, and warriors.

Allied forces- Gualon Orc troops (these fight under Tristram), undead Vailkrian warriors (sent by Redhale), Chartsend Legionnaires (these are with Eliason), Larketian Knights (these fight under Jonn)

Cryothain and her brood- http://www.hollowgame.com/wiki/Ancient_Legendary_Frost_Dragon (I'd prefer this NPC be mentioned in passing rather than under direct player-control, as she has a long and developed backstory that cannot be summarized enough to toss into random hands. She'll be rampaging throughout the battlefield, fiercely defending her territory)

Jorbik- A Frost Giant warrior who specializes in hunting and slaying Ice Devils. He has been training the allied forces in arctic combat. Missing some fingers, along with the eye, ears, and a portion of his jaw on the left side of his face.
