Venue

Dormitory

How bland, you think to yourself as you take in your surroundings. All around you are small cots, with cheap blankets and white sheets. They are all well cleaned though, and the cots look comfortable despite their size. At the base of each cot is a small trunk for each person to store their things in, and at the side of the bed is a small table with a candle and some individual items for each person. There are many windows, all with thin blue curtains that blow gently in the breeze through open windows. All this makes it seem as if they don't spend very much time in here. To the east is a door leading to the mage tower, and to the south is a small door heading towards the library.

Reece vs Satoshi

Reece faces Satoshi with but a small amount of hidden trepidation. Not for the first time, an errant thought flicks through his mind as he wonders why exactly they were now competing in the dormitory. Visibly shaking his head to clear these thoughts he says to Satoshi, "Well, lets see how this goes." He begins by bowing once respectfully and then raising both hands before him. The faintest murmur escapes his lips as he steps forward and throws both hands out before him. A well practiced illusion of a fireball is propelled out into the air towards the white feline. Its size is kept constrained to avoid a firestorm in these close quarters but still it crackles very realistically and the heat it gives off can be seen to singe the paintwork on the ceiling as it follows is lethal path towards the ice magus.

Satoshi regards the illusionist silently, no words of her own spellcasting taking place even as the avian begins his. No, rather a gloved hand retreats to the depths of the satchel at her side, plucking a trio of glass vials free simultaneously with the summoning of the fireball. The feline utters her first sound then, a wary hiss at the sight of the hated element as she scuttles back, dropping the vials as she goes, one by one. With the tinkle of broken glass announcing the release of each one's contents, Satoshi whistles lightly, the trigger to set the enchanted waters into action. With a rush of liquid, far more than should be in such tiny vessels, three geysers leap up in a row to greet the fiery offense. The first two do little more than to weaken the illusory flames, giving off hissing steam as they evaporate to obscure the room's occupants. The last torrent, strengthened with delayed and hasty whispers from the cat, shifts abruptly from geyser to snowy serpent, maw open wide to swallow the failing fire in a gulp, mist pouring from clamped jaws. And from there, the frigid water snake issues no more than a hiss before it lunges in the assumed direction of Reece in the fog, jaws open again in eager desire to sink icy fangs into Avian flesh, to send a chilling mockery of venom pumping through veins. And if a large snake bite isn't enough, the illusionist also must contend with the conjured creature's thick, algid body coiling tightly around him like simple prey.

Reece watches impassively, unconciously stepping back, as the feline deals with his assault quickly and efficiently. As the mist fills the room his mind turns over rapidly, realising that he was in a great deal of trouble if swift action were not taken. It is apparent to him that if he wants to have any hope of winning he must change the environment to one that suits him and not her. Within his mind he quickly begins to assemble the illusion required but is interrupted as the snow snake collides with him. with praise to his fortunate step back earlier the snow snake misses its intended mark for the biting fangs but that does not restrict its ability to coil around the slow-moving avian and inflict terrible pain on his fragile frame. Attempting desperately to hold his concentration he releases his illusion with another faint murmur. Immediately the room falls into darkness. Some objects are visible, white outlines in the almost pitch black. This illusion though does not include Satoshi's snow-snake, the illusion's intent being to sever the snow-kitty from whatever magical constructs she had at the time and to allow Reece the chance to escape his predicament. he can still feel where illusion and reality separate and he struggles silently to escape from the snowy prison, succeeding at last as he passes straight through the snow-snake or its remains. Energy drains from him from this effort, for existing entirely in his own illusion was no small feat, but it's not over yet. From a small sheath he draws a silver poniard. The light-weight blade honed to an edge which would cut through steel and enchantments alike just like butter. Scanning the room within his illusion and locating Satoshi by her presence of mind he moves towards her swiftly, swinging the long knife in a clumsy arc and hoping against hope that she was unable to disbelieve his illusion of darkness.

Satoshi 's hold over the snake vanishes with the casting of the illusion, the beast's form falling into nothing more than a puddle as the feline stumbles back with eyes glancing anxiously about the darkness for sign of the avian. With a yelp, her backwards movements come to a halt, boots catching on a student's trunk and sending her falling to her back, Reece's blade narrowly catching a light nip across the front of the mage's chest when the stumble happens and drawing a growl from the feline. Legs curl up tightly to her bleeding chest before harshly kicking out at the trunk, turning obstacle into weapon as it's shoved in the direction the avian's biting blade had come from, top opening with the violent motion. And from her prone place upon the floor, blinded by the darkness, the cat can only call off whispered words to the contents of the trunk, placing faith in a novice mage's typical collection of supplies. Fortune must be with her, for the sound of breaking glass follows her words as three potion bottles shatter, the mysterious contents erupting into the air in an arrangement of tiny icicles, spreading out in a ring from just above the trunk's open lid to embed themselves in any available surface. Although Satoshi does not know the effects of each potion herself, Reece might just learn that they are the frozen remains of a polymorph, sleeping, and love potion. Satoshi dropped 1 polymorph potion. Satoshi dropped 1 sleeping potion. Satoshi dropped 1 Love Potion-No.9.

Reece shrieks, a high pitched avian cry, as tiny icicles pepper his bare torso, drawing blood from numerous places and shattering his hold on his illusion. Light immediately returns to the room as well as the mist which had previously pervaded the atmosphere of the battle. Stumbling backwards blindy Reece is unfortunate enough to slip on the puddle of water left from the snow snake, the avian crashing down to the floor with a bone jarring impact. More in self-defence than anything else he raises both hands before him, two tiny stars of light shining out from the two silver rings, one on each hand. At the moment they touch the stored energy within is released in a shockwave which spreads outwards in all directions, turinging over beds, sending chests flying and just causing general mayhem and destruction.

Satoshi 's eyes close instinctively at the sudden reappearance of light, a reaction that proves to her disadvantage as she misses Reece lifting his hands to trigger his retaliation. With a startled cry the cat's light frame is flung back with the shockwave, slamming her against the wall and sending the sound of cracking ribs echoing through the room, seconds before a cot collides with her to muffle further noise. With a groan, mage and bed tumble back to the floor, former falling upon the latter and for a moment looking for all the world as if the mage is taking a nap. Albeit, she's already begun interweaving counterspells together, her tone losing its soft tone for a more feral edge to reflect the pain she's been delivered. Reece's first predicament comes from the mist still hanging thickly in the room, its chill quickly dropping to an unnatural degree, threatening to freeze beads of sweat, the moistures in mouth and eyes alike, turning the avian's exterior against himself. And if that isn't enough, a bleeding, trembling Satoshi finally pushes herself back into a stand upon the cot, eyes narrowed as the last string of words are hissed out. Answering the call is the puddle Reece has slipped upon. Water once again freezes, now into a thick disk of ice and, without warning, lifts with quicksilver movement toward the ceiling, intent upon smashing the frail avain between itself and the building's structure. With the spell finished, the feline drops back into a seat with a weak moan, battered and weary.

Reece sees nothing but stars as he recovers from his own concussive blast. The sudden chill in the air alerts him to the feline's continued attack and he scrambles to try and sit or stand up. It is fortunate here because as the puddle froze and slammed upwards at the ceiling it did not take him with it but merely toppled him back to the floor as it flung his legs up out from under him. As to the cold freezing into him, well that was something he could deal with. A small spel, one of the few pieces of 'real' magic he was capable of, is murmured. Enough warmth being delivered to his mouth and eyes to avoid serious harm while he simply allows the ice particles to form on his skin more or less harmlessly. Dragging himself to his feet he bows to the feline respectfully, "Well played."
