RP:Roldan Begins His Investigation

From HollowWiki

Roldan gallops through the forest, his bay all in a lather. Vines and branches beat and scratch at him, rattling off his armor with little effect. He ignores them all in his mad rush, stopping only upon reaching the murder site. The guards offer him a salute, which he distractedly returns as he dismounts, his face a cold mask. He stalks around the area, his flat, grey eyes missing nothing; no leaf out of place, no bent blade of grass escapes him. As he studies the land, the deputies fill him in on the circumstances surrounding the girl's death. Dontos, who had found the body, is the primary speaker. The Sheriff rounds on him as soon as he subsides. "And you were fool enough to let this spread to the smallfolk? Like sheep, they panic at the slightest scent of a wolf." The guard apologizes, and proceeds to list the possible suspects; Achaedas, Cecilnezuto, Tiphareth, Satoshi, Terra.

The red knight considers the names in silence, taking a last look at the bloodstained forest. He mounts, and gestures to his head deputy, Jonn, to accompany him. As they ride back toward the town, Roldan speaks in a low voice. "I want every last detail on each of those names. What they are, where they live, what they do for a living. I confess, I know nothing of this Achaedas. The supposed knight, I have seen. He is of at least half dragon blood, and red at that. Such beings are not to be trusted. I think I need but mention that gelded Hameriak as evidence of that. Then again, the wretched drow race is just as bad. They have no honor, and I have ever mistrusted their leader. But would he risk trouble with our queen for a simple girl? The same goes for the next name. Nor did we find any evidence of ice or water on the scene, though she might have intentionally refrained from leaving a trace. Terra, I do not know either. If any one of them is seen in Larket again, seize them for questioning. Try to be gentle with the two rulers, but the others can be...dealt with as the situation dictates."

Jonn, a human male of almost surprising youth, nods his head. "Aye, sir. I'll let the men know. We'll have reports on each suspect for you by the morning." He scratches at his chin, where the wisp of a red beard has begun to take root. "If I may, sir, I will offer mine own thoughts." At Roldan's nod, he continues. "The vine. It would take a being of either great strength, or great magic to force it through her like that. Satoshi, she is a mage by all reports, but she works with ice and water, not growing things. Tiphareth may be more likely, as he has studied many forms of magic, but I think that the earth itself would repel one of his race, and we would see the evidence of that conflict plainly. Dragons are strong, and we as yet know little of the other two, so I would place my wager on one of those three."

The Sheriff gives his deputy a look, tinted with admiration and, oddly, pride. "Very good. I must say, I hope it is the dragon; I can always use more scales." They arrive at the entrance to the city, where two more guards stand waiting. Roldan raises his voice so that all can hear, although he directs his words to Jonn. "A curfew is to be enacted. Anyone out after the fall of night without a signed and stamped permit is to be detained for questioning. I do not care if it is the king of Craugmoyle, the high priest of Coreliant, or bloody Sven himself; you will arrest them." The guards answer with a resounding "Aye, sir," and the knight moves away, back to his office, while Jonn continues on to follow his orders.
