Part of the In Darkness We Trust Arc

Part of the The Day I Tried To Live Arc

This is a Necromancer's Guild RP.

Summary: After the Halloween party, Khitti and Brand speak to Larewen about the elder vampiress-turned-banshee taking on Khitti as a student once more.

Vailkrin City Path, Vailkrin

Khitti would follow after Larewen, once the party had dispersed and the other elder vampires had gone. “Wait. I… I can’t go in there.” She knew the risks--it’s kind of hard not too after Brand’s spelled them out to her so many times--and she knew well enough to not break -all- of the rules the Catalian had put into place for this. “It’s… not safe.” Khitti made a bit of a face, her brows furrowed and nose all scrunched up. “I, um. I need help. With my magic. And, I’ve been told that you know me and can help.” That shadowflame had been snuffed out long before they reached this part of the road, her hand reaching out to Brand for him to take hold. She was nervous, but mainly because she was afraid of being turned away. Khitti hadn’t really been told much about Larewen, besides the fact that she was a powerful necromancer and could teach her how to properly wield her newly reacquired magic. That costume of hers still persisted, even now after the party. It was for her protection, she’d been told.

Khitti has a point and this draws the banshee's attention. Her head dips slightly, and though she is truly joyful of Khitti's return, between Brand's request for no reaction and the events that have transpired - a culmination of the other Houses' plotting - Larewen has slid into her emotionless self in an attempt to keep her anger bridled. Were Larewen in her body, she'd be able to detect Khitti's precise reasoning but as it is, she cannot smell the woman's blood or beating heart. Perhaps that's a good thing, considering her body has gone months without nourishment presently. Instead mismatched eyes shift between the two, her gaze taking them in. "Yes, but not here. I will not stand idly by after this, and Vailkrin will yet be a very dangerous place sooner, rather than later. I did what I felt was right, and yet..." She trails off, letting tonight's events linter in the air as her gaze flickers westward, toward the arena and the carnage there, to the southwest, where the other noble Houses stand. Her gaze trails to Brand. "Do you know where my body is? Did she tell you?" The necromancer doesn't question the 'how' of Khitti's return - that is a conversation best left for another day. Instead, she waits for Brand's answer before continuing.

Brand , unfortunately, can only shrug. “I dunno. There’s a lot of things I’ve not been told. I know when… the incident happened, it was here in Vailkrin. At your home, I believe? Other than that, I’m afraid I can’t be of help.” There’s a brief pause as Brand considers his next words. “I’d like to help you, especially if you can help Red here in exchange.” He nods in Khitti’s direction. He won’t speak her true name here, as a precaution. “I know magic, but necromancy’s somethin’ I don’t know a frakkin’ thing about.” He looks to the child that accompanied them to the short-lived ball; the child looks back, but says nothing. If Onyx could perform necromancy in addition to all their other vaguely creepy traits, it would be news to Brand. But the child only shakes their head. They cannot, or they will not.

Khitti’s line of sight shifted between man and banshee, obvious confusion in her expression. Incident? There’s further discussion, and even Onyx joins in, albeit in silence before Khitti finally says something,”I… don’t know anything about an incident, but… I can try to help. I just need some sort of guidance. I can study in between my duties on the Tranquility. I’ve been working on my art, but I guess that can be shoved to the backburner for now.” She was clearly a little sad about this. She really enjoyed her art and music; it helped to fill that hole her missing memories left. Well, Brand does too, but that goes without saying. “This is just… a lot to take in. The magic. The… undead. So, it might take a little for me to get used to, but… I just want to be useful. Somehow.”

Larewen nods quietly, a cursory glance made to ensure they are not being listened in on. Then to Brand, she speaks, “Is the Tranquility still docked where I last knew it to be?” Cenril, she’s asking without saying it aloud. Her first thought was to have them slip a note to where they are staying into one of the folds of her gown, but with Khitti having no memory and Brand only knowing about what had happened, but not the fine details, it would be like sending the pair on a wild goose chase - Brand had only been to House Dragana once. She reaches a hand out to pat Khitti’s shoulder, but it does little good considering her present state. “We will remedy that, but not within Vailkrin, Red.” She takes the queue, though the voicing of that name is difficult, given that Shishi had named Aarika, the wife that followed Larewen, the same.

Brand nods. “Aye, it is. And the crew have seen odder than a necromancer ghost, if you were to visit.” Cue side-eye to Onyx. “And it’d be safer for her. Safer for you maybe, too, given what happened tonight.” Brand offered a wan smile to the ghost before him.

Khitti would nod in agreement with both of them. “Alright. If books are required, then have one in your house send a list and I’ll try to find them. Cenri’s library is decent.” Little did she know that a great deal of them were already on the ship itself. It was something Brand and Onyx would likely have to deal with at a later time. “We should probably go. We likely would’ve left sooner if I wasn’t so stubborn and wanted to help.” Khitti smiled warmly to the ghost-woman, “It was nice to meet you, Larewen.” Or, re-meet you. You know what she means.

Larewen agrees, for the most part. She opens her mouth to reply to Brand, likely to relay her intentions to declare war on the Houses of Vailkrin, but the middle of the street likely isn’t the best place for that. Instead, the necromancer nods, dipping her head to both. “I will come myself. I should tend to my daughter and granddaughter, to make sure they’re alright as well. Please, keep her safe.” The latter part is directed more toward Brand than Red.
