Synopsis: Zahrani and Joan meet at the Chapel of Rest, before taking an actual rest at the Ginger Snapped Bakery.

Chapel of Rest, Cenril

Joan moved about the inner chapel making the final preparations for the newly deceased laid in the wooden coffin, since they had a backlog with the mass raising of those rogue ghouls and zombies at last years Halloween party at the shipwreck, Joan had did her part awhile back placing protective runes and sigils all about the streets/walkways/back alley ways of Cenril. But there was still those that wandered out of those areas that got attacked and bitten/ate being infected or dying from their wounds before turning that were brought to the chapel. Here, Joan’s necromancer magic was used to keep those that wished to stay dead naturally and not rise as the undead flowed about. The further away from the source that had raised the first hoard the better chance Joan had herself of controlling the newly bitten and turned with her own power and she did what she could, I mean once you where bitten and turned, you where dead, there was no way to bring a ghoul or zombie back to life. That was beyond a necromancers power, they dealt with death not life.

Zahrani finds herself in the Chapel of Rest once more, the panther having visited funeral previously for one of two reasons. The first was when she accompanied members of the Isran Collective, when it was time to bury one of their own feline brethren. That had become tragically more commonplace after last year. The other reason she comes here is to see Joan. She had witnessed the services the necromancer provides this Chapel, and for that, the paladin greatly respects the vampire. Cyan eyes glow slightly beneath a grey hood, trimmed with amber colored fabric. The soft clank of armored boots plays across the chapel ceiling with every footstep she takes. The panther wanders over to one of the coffins, recognizing some of the mementos that the next of kin had placed. Her tail remains motionless as she pays her respects, placing a hand on the wood of the coffin and quietly, "May the sand in the Beyond warm your feet, J'Zhar."

Joan knew ‘Rani’s scent anywhere, so when the panther first entered the chapel’s first room the vampire had mentality prepared herself for a visit with her friend, tho she never stopped in her task at hand of preparing the newest corpse for viewing. The woman moved about placing the pink veil over the face she had spent a few moments fixing with makeup and some putty, hiding the small bite mark on the corpses cheek where they were attacked. This client had wished to not to rise as a zombie, having it stated on their living will, these new ‘living wills’ were all the new fad going about and being sold at a amazing pace at all the health insurance businesses. All the funeral parlors now had clients with these ‘living wills’ just lining up their cold body storage areas, awaiting staging to their next final destination. The vampire would call out in a pleasant tone to her friend once the other was finish with her pray for the departed. “Evening ‘Rani, what brings you here?”

Zahrani turns her gaze towards Joan, the panther offering a weary smile to the other woman before lowering her hood. Her hair is carefully braided into cascading strands, an opalescent hairclip keeping them out of her face. She approaches the vampire, her hands resting on her armored hips before saying, "Saying 'until we meet again' to some of our brethren. J'Zhar was a fishing cat, but he was ashore when he was attacked by one of the undead. He...fought bravely. The Collective found him shambling on the beach, and we were able to end his suffering." The panther will never forget the unearthly growls and screams that come from the mouth of an undead feline. With a sigh, the panther asks, "How have you been, Joan?" Joan spent a few more moments with the now finished laid out corpse, smoothing out their chosen outfit, making little tugs to sleeve cuffs and such before answering the panther. “Sorry about your fellow feline and his passing, it is such a tragedy about what has been happening since last fall…” She lets out a heavy sigh as she gives her friend the full weight of her tired gaze, her hands folding against each other above her vested chest as she expressed her sympathy. “Busy, more or lest, with my necromancer training, then the cross training with the Healers guild, and the training I’m doing here at the chapel. It is a good thing I am a supernatural creature, else I would have suffered burnout with everything on my plate.” A tired chuckle follows as she makes to step towards her friend, “Since you are here, and I need to take a break, would you like to accompany me to the tea shop and get something?”

Zahrani had never seen a vampire look tired before. The feline approaches the body that Joan is preparing, noting the attention to detail in the makeup and clothing. The panther takes in the necromancer's story, eyes widening slightly as she turns back to her friend, "That's...quite a bit of work you have. I've been looking into ritual-craft recently..." At the mention of taking a break, the paladin nods, "I'd be happy to join you for tea." She places a hand on the woman's shoulder, saying in a playful jest, "You've been working too hard, anyway."

The Ginger Snapped Bakery & Sweetshop, Cenril

Joan allows the panther to pace her hand upon her shoulder as Joan nodded her agreement, her own arm moving to rest lightly around the armored back of the feline as she moves to exit and leave the chapel and onto the city paved streets, leading the way to the bakery and sweetshop, pausing long enough to open the shop door and using her other hand make the ‘after you’ gesture towards Zahrani. The scent coming out from the store making the vampiric healer perk up and her empty stomach growl loudly enough to be heard between the two women, enough so that a pale pink flush of color plays on the vampire’s normally pale cheeks, “Erm, I might be a tad hungry.”

Zahrani steps into the familiar bakery with Joan. A few patrons enjoy their meals in the dining area. A male hairless Sphinx feline, with a cherry blossom branch tattooed on his neck, can be seen behind the counter, putting up the last batch of sourdough loaves on display before withdrawing into the kitchen. A female Sphinx feline sets out a freshly baked quiche, before looking to the paladin an offering a familiar wave. Going to the register, the feline lady says, "Hey, Rani. The usual?" The panther offers a grin before saying, "You know me, Nirali. I like my evening quiche with hibiscus tea." Nirali makes a quick note of the other woman's order, before turning to Joan with a feline grin, "And what would you like?"

Joan takes her time looking over the offered baked goods and then up towards the listed board before she makes her choices, “Hello, could I get one brownie square plain, with a small peppermint hot cocoa?” When Nirali ask if it was for here or to go, the vampiric healer said “Here.” The total price was quoted and Joan dug the coins out from the front pocket of her vest as she turned towards the dining area.

Zahrani finds an empty table for two, pulling out one chair for Joan to sit, before taking her own seat. In mere minutes, the head waitress Victoria could be seen making her way over with a small tray. "Right, loves. One slice of quiche and a hibiscus tea for the armored lady..." she sets down Rani's food first. "...and for the pink lady, one plain brownie and a copy of peppermint cocoa." After setting them up with utensils, the waitress does her best to suppress a scrunched up face (like she had just smelled something awful), saying "Enjoy, ladies." before turning and walking briskly away. The paladin seems slightly perplexed, covertly taking a sniff of her own garments before saying, "I suppose after working with the dead, we probably should have changed clothes before coming here."

Joan took her pulled out seat and then scooted it up to the table while that waitress made her way over with the ladies orders, the scrunched up nose was ignored for the most part, as Joan was use to smelling of the dead/undead as she way one and the oder just didn’t bother her much if at all, if she knew she was going out into polite company and into normal common society she would had bathed and chance clothes and put on a few dabs of perfume to mask her scent for the normals. But since she just came from work, the vampire didn’t much care, and the whole town was surrounded by the undead, there wasn’t much anyone could do unless they could afford magical air cleanse for their home or shop or store. Joan offered a shrug as her cold icy hands curled about her mug of hot peppermint cocoa, taking a few moments for the heat from the mug to warm her icy palms before she took a long drink. “Hmm, delicious!” Next she’d pinch off a piece of her brownie, popping the chewy morsel into her mouth to chew in a white manner with her mouth closed, eyes closed in a blissful manner as she leaned back in her chair. “Heavenly…” She remarked.

Zahrani takes a sip of her own drink. The hibiscus is tart, lemony and floral, the petals staining the hot water a deep maroon. She sighs, "Good soup weather..." remarking at the October chill that lingers in the air. The quiche has a buttery flaky crust, and the eggy filling has small pieces of seared pork belly, herbs, and mushroom mixed in. A bite of that is like drying off in front of a warm hearth after coming in from a thunderstorm. The feline looks at Joan, realizing it had been months since they had been able to just sit and enjoy each other's company like this. After finishing a bite of quiche, the paladin asks, "So aside from the hustle, how have you been?"

Joan slowly opens her lilac glowing orbs as she gives her friend a good look, the weary look now gone from her face, a full heavy exhale of breath breathed out as the necromancer speaks, “Girl, I hardly gave myself time to do anything but hustle, I mean I did go to that fair in Gualon this spring to relax, have fun and shop, but it got invaded by a rouge ghoul.” Shaking her head the pinches off another piece of the brownie and pops it into her mouth.

Zahrani blinks a couple times about a festival in Gualon being crashed by a ghoul. "Seems like there's never a dull moment for either of us." The feline takes another sip of her tea, looking around at the quiet bakery before resting her cyan eyes on her friend. "I suppose that's not true right now. It's not dull, mind you, but at least here is a relatively peaceful moment before the next crisis begins." The paladin woman sighs softly, savoring the moment of calm while it lasts. There'd be plenty of work waiting for them, but at least the two friends could take time to themselves to recharge, if only for a few moments.
