Description

Hepti is a Duergar, born far below the surface. His eyes are red, his skin pale, and his hair is black as night. He is heavily muscled, because of his life spent at the forge, the soot from which is ingrained permanently in his skin.

Gear

As a skilled smith and enchanter, Hepti has crafted himself a suit of armor of unmatched workmanship. Each piece is made by hand and with attention to every detail. This armor, along with his many weapons, make up for the fact that Hepti's fighting skills are sadly lacking.

Shield: Chaos-Enchanted Tower-Shield

A rectangular piece of metal, red in hue and constantly swirling. The edges are tattered, as if the whole shield was simply ripped from a larger chunk of metal. It is studded with spikes of metal, long and wickedly sharp. Aside from offering physical protection, it is also useful in averting or distorting spells, allowing Hepti to crouch behind it to escape a mage's attacks.

Face: demonic-shifting mask

Hepti's study of smithing and magic has led him down paths many would not dare to take. In league with the demons of Hell, he has forged masks that allow the demons to look out upon the mortal world. Although they have no true power on the surface, one could only imagine what they mean to do with the information gleaned from the masks. In return, Hepti's forging has grown more powerful, and the masks imbue the wearer with fire resistance and strength. This only works on Underdark creatures, however.

Head: black-horned-full helmet

A helmet covers all of Hepti's head, connecting with the mask over his face by cunningly-wrought hinges. A pair of curved horns jut up and back, giving the small man the appearance of some sort of demonic beast. The helmet is made of iron, the most enchantable of metals, and embellished with fine patterns of gold wire, hammered in. Besides the obvious protection from physical attack, the helmet also helps to absorb and dissipate direct magical attacks.

Left Ear: black-iron stud

A stud of pure iron imbued with spells to enhance Hepti's hearing, aiding in his nasty habit of eavesdropping and sneaking about.

Right Ear: spike-of magic-detection

A spike of iron, enchanted to help Hepti detect spells, whether illusions, traps, enchantments, or even benign magic.

Neck: demon-eye collar

Part of his pact with the demons includes an iron collar around his neck, set with what appears to be an eyeball that burns with an internal flame. When touched, the eye feels hard, like a stone, but it moves about seemingly on it's own, its gaze imparting fear wherever it lands.

Shoulders: Flowing-Mithril-Weaved Cloak

Attached to the collar is a truly beautiful piece; a flowing weave of pure mithril, beaten to fine fibers and woven like cotton into a dazzling cloak that frames the stout smith. Light weight like cloth, the garment still offers astounding protection against physical attack, the fibers enough to dull swords and axes. This method of forging takes some of Hepti's greatest skill to accomplish, but it is a cloak fit for a king.

Body: Beating-Heart-of Chaos

A beating heart of some sort.

Arms: armlet-of-intellect

Sleeves of dark mithril chain, studded with encircling bands of gilded iron, which function as sort of holding cells for Hepti's vast skill and knowledge. Like a mage's tomes, Hepti can recall spells and techniques from these to use at will, leaving his mind free to work on his diabolical plans.

Wrists: Black wristband

Continuing on down the sleeves of mithril, more iron bands wrap around Hepti's wrists. These, however, give added strength to the smith's already heavily-muscled arms, giving him the ability to easily hammer even the hardest of metals, and putting devastating power behind his attacks.

Hands: Spiky Chaotic Gauntlets

Hepti's hands are covered by fearsome-looking gauntlets, matching the red material of his shield. Spikes jut back toward his arms from the end of each knuckle, as well as three on the back of each hand, while each fingertip ends in a slightly curved claw. Hooks at the openings of the gauntlets latch onto the wristbands, leaving no exposed flesh. These seem to pulsate with chaos, the power within them ready to be unleashed on whatever the duergar lays his hands on.

Fingers: greater-ring-of protection

Hepti's fingers are covered with rings, each one enchanted to protect the duergar from various things; one from cold and ice, one from electricity, one from air, and one from acid.

Legs: black-chainmail leggings

On the duergar's legs is an excellently crafted pair of leggings, made of tiny dark mithril rings, interspersed with enchanted iron. While providing protection form physical attack, the leggings also surround Hepti with an aura of shadow, which blurs his motions and distracts the eye while in bright light, and helps him blend in at night, making him almost invisible to see.

Feet: enchanted-armored boots

On his feet, Hepti wears heavy boots, plated with iron and tipped with wicked spikes, which are matched by the short spikes on the soles, providing traction on even the slippery stone pathways of the Underdark. The enchantments on the boots muffle the sounds of the duergar's movements, often allowing him to sneak up on people entirely undetected.

As for weapons, Hepti has many. I will add them here as I have the time and interest.

Cursed Warblade of Chaos

A blade of a size to be considered a longsword for the duergar, this weapon is made of pure, black iron, with no ornamentation. Even so, the metal seems to swirl unceasingly, speaking of the chaotic nature of the sword. Forged with Hepti's strongest enchantments, this blade feasts after flesh like a living being, ever eager to reach the heart of its prey.

Hepti's Biography:

Most of Hepti's history is known only to himself and his kind, for he was born and raised in the subterranean tunnels of the Underdark, below even the city of the Drow.

However, he was a part of the invasion of Duergar, being sent as a secret agent first with Dergious, aiding in the rise of Chaos and the destruction of the elven camps. His handiwork provided the means by which the Duergar forces took over the camps, built their tower, and defended it against all comers. After this, he returned to his home, giving the report of the encounter and enjoying the spoils of victory, while learning yet more of his craft. Now he has returned to the surface...perhaps his appearance heralds another disaster?
