Xalious Village

The annual Fall Fair had come to Xalious yet again. Okay, so it was technically still summer, but up in the mountains it was cold, and the leaves were already changing. Which meant it was fair season! The town square was packed with booths, selling all kinds of autumnal treats. Candy apples, cozy sweaters, you name it. There was also entertainment to be had. An elven dancer and her band, games, even a petting zoo. It was here Pilar could be found, tending the animals.

'I'm so hungry,' the four foot tall half elf whined to herself. 'If I don't eat soon I'll die!' The exaggeration echoed through her rumbling stomach. She had eaten a full meal at a tavern not a day before and had well heated and flavored all her meals on the road. Yet the scents of the festival begot cravings in her. Spices and sweets and exotic foods so plenty. From a nearby stall the steaming scent of sugar and cinnamon wafted through the air. She groaned as she spied a fresh cake the merchant proffered to passerby. Yet Enelys had already spent what little coin she had. Her hands trembled, her mouth flooded, her innards ached- she had to have it. The merchant glared at her for he thought he spied a mere streer urchin. At his sight Enelys took to whistling innocently and looking elsewhere yet when his back was turned any moral delimma was betrayed by selfish instincts. She snatched a piece of the cake and shoved it into the pockets of her robe before dashing into the crowd! The merchant cried theif to the guards who were soon on her tail- Enelys banked for the alleywasy between buildings and tried to loose them around the corner- but to no avail. As one tried to cast a spell to ensnare her the half elf pivoted and allowed the chakram around her wrists to fly over the arcane signet rings on her figertips. The focusers of her magic fed mana into the center of the weapons as she grasped them and shouted the magical word, "Presto!" Her spell was much faster than his and much simpler as a shower of sparks shot out between her chakram and filled the alleyway. While the guards were partly blinded and stunned she rounded the corner as the color of her robes shifted to match the walls and ground she was near. She hunkered down on the soft ground of a musky petting zoo as the two guards barreled out of the alley in search of her. They split up none the wiser as the tiny mage took a breath. Slipping the cake out of her robe she moaned during the first bite. Squealing over the delicious sweetness she craved, the hooded girl gobbled down the rest of her cake, even licking the crumbs off her fingers. Enelys was nearly oblivious to anything else going on around her while scarfing down her ill gotten goods.

Pilar was at the other end of the pen, feeding a jackalope a carrot when the creature hopped over to Enelys, sniffing for treats. Pilar followed it with her eyes, brow furrowing. She got up from her kneeling position and walked over to the girl. "Um, excuse me, miss? You're sitting in, um..." How to put this gently. "... Poo."

Enelys had nothing to give to nosy rabbits. Especially not crumbs of her delicuous cake she stole that were certain to be digged from her lockets later. At the words of the approaching of the animal caregiver Enelys gasped and and shouted as she junped out of the manure. The half elf was entirely disgusted and made it clearly known as she picked up her robes and went about looking at her boots. She huffed and leaned against a wall where the rings on her fings lit with magical power. In a single moment the magic wiped away any traces of dung from her footwear with but an utterance of a magical word. "Ahem, thank you," Enelys replied to the woman after recovering her dignity. As she looked around the half elf seemed to consider where she should be heading next.

Pilar smiled. "You're welcome." An awkward silence as Enelys looked around, and Pilar began to wonder what Enelys was doing way back here. "Um..." She heard giggling and turned around just in time to see two hobbit children throw a firecracker into the pen. "Hey!" The firecracker went off, scaring the daylights out of the animals, who in their rush to flee, broke down the gate and swarmed the fair. At least the hay was wet, meaning no real fire, but lots of smoke. Pilar coughed and held out her hand. The embers stopped burning, so that was one problem fixed, but now there were a dozen scared animals to corral.

Enelys screamed at the unexpected explosion no matter how small. Before she knew whay was happening aninals were everywhere and clouds of smoke choked out the once beautiful scents of the fair. The half elf cursed loudly at the children, "don't you have any respect?!" She screeched as she ran in front of the pens to get a better read of the event. "I think I can fixe the gate-" she told the caretaker, "track down the animals while I repair it." With a wave of the tiny mages hands a magical gust of wind blew the smoke away and the pieces of the barrier were lifted. It would take more than a momet for her to mend the broken chain or lock that the animals had burst through and so she put all of her concentration into the task.

"I... Oh, thank you," Pilar said. She hopped the fence and set about her task. She would need a way to lure them, and what better way than food? She held her hand before her, palm up, and the scent of fresh fruits and veggies wafted through the fair. One by one, the animals came out of hiding and found her as she circled the fair. Hopefully, by the time she got back, the latch would be fixed.

The half elf felt emboldenes by the strangers gratitude. Under her gaze the pieces of iron steadily repaired their broken link. The mana fed through her focus rings and into her chakram spread out to heal the inanimate object bit by bit as if she were reversing time. Once it was fixed Enelys found herself relieved while the impromptu parade of animals were lead back to the pen. A small part of her quietly worried one of the guards from ealier would show up at the scene though it was quieted by her pride in accomplishing this task. As soon as they were back where they belonged Enelys would close and latch the repaired gate with a flourish of her hands and a quiet yet dignified, "Presto," though her bit of magnetism was not related to her other tricks it gave her sense of styled accomplishment.

Pilar's lure wasn't perfect. She'd had to pull a goat out of a garbage can and the baby griffin was more interested in the meat snacks than her plant-based scents, but eventually, she got them all back in the pen. She shut the gate and latched it. "Thank for the help, miss." She looked around, frowning. "We should probably find those kids, but I can't leave the animals unattended..."

The half elf looked furious,  "yeah if I found those little brats I'd-" she growled and said something rather rude in elvish. After a moment of that she seemed to compose herself and turned to the animal herdee rather proudly. "Ahem," she announced with dignity, "as repayment for my illustrious services I would have only one thing:" she paused as if for dranatic effect, having all the air of someone asking for anothers eternal servitude, "directions." At this the tiny magician became somewhat embarassed at the fact she had no idea where she was or was going, "how would obe arrive at the mages guild from this destination exactly?" Her voice quieted as she looked away and tapped her fingers. Enelys had little comfort in the idea she owned no maps, afforded no escorts, and had little idea to ask something of the guards she had already troubled. She coulf only hope a lowly herder suh as this woman might be able to point the way towards her predestined destination as it were.

Pilar, in fact, understood elvish quite well and blushed at Enelys's language. She raised an eyebrow at Enelys's theatrics. "Oh, the guild is actually pretty close. You can see the tower from here." Pilar pointed to the structure to the north. "Just keep heading in that direction, you'll get there. What do you need from us? Maybe there's something I can help you with? Or were you planning to join?"

The four foot magician girl gave her best attempt to look for the outline of the mystical and eternal tower that she had dreamed of seeing ever since she first laid ears to its name. After the amount of average height people combined with the amount of buildings in the way she gave up and settled from her tip toes in the belief that seeing it up close would be far better. "Us? An animal herder such as yourself is in allignment with the mages guild?" Enelys' skepticism was palpable as if she had not yet been introduced to the idea that some people are more than what meets the eye. She composed a most righteous air as she seemed to inflate with her ego by a few inches, "yes I am looking to join-" this is where a true air of theatrics blew around her, "for I am the greatest mage of Willington Village the one and only Enelys Ruža!" Lightd dazzled about her form and sparks seemed to fly to a dramatic tune before fading away. She stood proudly in dislplay of her self surredly awesome might as though a crowd may burst into applause at amy moment.

Pilar folded her arms and looked thoroughly unimpressed. And also a little insulted. "I am, in fact, an Arcane Steward with the Mage's Guild," she said. "But if you're looking to join, Miss Ruža, I would suggest sending a letter to the Administrator, Mister Brenwyn. However, since he's very busy, finding a Provost to apprentice under might be the better option."

Enelys continued to hold one of her fingers up though her features fell from absurdly proud to shock and horror. "Ah, I see- of course," she attempted to recover despite the slight blushing that began to burn at her cheeks, "I could feel the magical power in the air as soon as mine had quited down."" She cleared her throat as if that was that and simply so before continuing, "I am well prepared however and a letter should have arrived some time ago. In fact, the very head master should be expecting me soon. There are few greater honors than being seen by the head of the mages guild, of course," she eyed the pig herder as if it might prompt her to speak up of any such meetings for a moment. Before long the tiny magician carried on with, "I need apprentice no one of course. I was the top mage of Willington- I doubt there is such a replacement there now," She tugged at the corner of her collar smugly, "but we shall see. After all it may be best to slip in to the high society of wizards within Xalious under the wing of some proliferated sage! Perhaps soon we shall even be colleagues," she seemed genuinely happy to assume that she was on the same level- or rather, slightly higher, of course, than anyone around her. "Before I become head of the Mages Guild I should like to start with the bottom of the barrel. What could be better than the tale of the mysterious Enelys, Mage from the Outlands, who rose to the top with record speed?!" There was true delusional granduer in her eyes as they sparkled in far off dreams of toting about the biggest robes and longest hair of all the magical women in all the world before just like that her coat swished about and she began walking in the wrong direction then turning about. "I will see you then, at the Mages College!" She proclaimed as she ran off rather childishly with arms flaiilng behind her in the mostly correct direction of the guild tower. It is most likely to assume that Pilar would be seeing Enelys again. And again. And again- no matter what.
