RP:Some See a Weed, Some See a Wish

From HollowWiki

This is a Healer's Guild RP.

Summary: A bad cold is making the rounds and the Frostmaw Fort and nothing seems to be alleviating the symptoms. Remembering a brew her mother used when she was younger, Talyara decides to visit Emilia's greenhouse in search of dandelion roots, the main ingredient of her tincture. The witch is elated to find that the Ice Genasi happens to be there and the two enjoy some light refreshments as they play catch up. When Taly explains the real reason she had come to the greenhouse, Emi questions whether or not she would like to expand her abilities beyond the clinic and join the Healer's Guild. Elated at the offer, Talyara joyously agrees before collecting her necessary ingredients and heading back to the fort.

Emilia's Frostmaw Greenhouse

Talyara :: The cold and snow was no stranger to the people who lived Frostmaw, especially those who occupied the fort. Since Talyara had begun to live there, temporarily, she busied herself within the clinic of the fort, volunteering her services as a healer. It wasn’t that the more senior members of staff didn’t trust the witch when she said she was a capable healer, but they were hesitant to allow a complete stranger to work on some of the best warriors in all of Lithrydel. It was a slow process for Taly, who had started by making beds and doing the grunt work, running errands and organizing supplies, but eventually one healer took an interest in the eager woman and agreed to let her practice on some minor incidents. Soon, they realized that Talyara wasn’t all talk and had a natural talent with not only the actual healing, but bedside manner, and began to show her different techniques, while she offered some of her own—herbal tinctures and salves that had proved successful over the years. The past two days had seen an increase of patients as a bad cold made it’s way around the fort leaving almost everyone, patients and healers alike, in very crabby moods. While there was little they could do to outright cure the discomfort, Talyara swore by an herbal concoction her mother had brewed that always did the trick. The problem was, dandelion roots were near impossible to come by in the frozen war city. The little witch was planning a trip down the mountain when she remembered a time when she worked at Emilia’s greenhouse right here in Frostmaw! It seemed so long ago that she was employed by the genasi, so much had happened, but she was sure that there had been dandelions there back then; it was also a much quicker journey then heading down into Sage which, gripped by the beginnings of winter, might not have the flowers anyway! Talyara bundles herself up in knee-high, fur lined boots, flannel leggings, a long-sleeved cotton shirt, an oversized sweater, and her cloak before heading out. She adds some gloves and a hat when she enters the courtyard before heading south and west towards the mines. She frowns slightly as she approaches the area sometime later, for the greenhouse seemed to have disappeared since the last time she had visited. Had she forgotten the location? No! She was sure it was over here! As a frown tugs on the corners of her lips she continues north, her nose twitching as if she could sniff the building out. Just as the witch is about to give up, she turns and sees a glint of something out of the corner of her eye. With a furrow of her brow she takes a few steps forward before she yelps in surprise and jumps back. It was as if the greenhouse had materialized out of thin air! The witch blinks her emerald eyes several times before approaching the building once more and tentatively reaching towards the door. It’s solid and she eases it open and pops her head inside. “Hello?” she calls out tentatively. “Anyone here?”

Emilia could be found within the glass walls of her Greenhouse tucked away in the safety of the enchantment that kept it hidden from those seeing to cause troublemaking and to keep a secret plant hidden away from the public. The rows of herbs had grown longer with more plants from various regions farther out than it previously held. Rows of common herbs lined the front of section while the back sported a new arrangement of much rarer herbs that were quite an adventure to obtain for the Genasi and the Blue alike. Farther back hidden in a corner behind a curtain of deep forest green was something else all together. It was back by this area that the Genasi could be found, a miniature white figure amongst an array of greenery. “Come on in, Talyara,” the voice of the Genasi carried through the building, echoing against the glass as the voice of the witch had reached her ears, “I am in the back!” she added quickly. It was a wonder the work the Snowlady had done since the last time Taly had been here. Working at the bench the black ice hand of hers was bringing her along a various amount of vials with strange hues to them, likely potions of the Blue. There was a glass jar before Emi that contained water and an array of small tubes lined up before her in a small stand with unique aromas coming from each one. What was the lady up to and what could be hidden behind that fabric. It was only when the witch found her way through the expanse of the Greenhouse, passing a large batch of the sought dandelions, that the Genasi would speak to her again with a smile on those frosty blue lips, “Ah, well it a pleasure to see you! What can I do for you? Would you like a cup of tea? How about a snack? A seat?” Righty would offer a single wave of the index finger after it tucked an eighth tube into the rack filling it up allowing room for no others. The Genasi was a healer, but no witch, or was she a herbal witch without knowing it the way she had that station work table set up with an array of items from a mortar and pestle to a small black cauldron. That creepy hand took off into the back room that had been added on to the greenhouse, a room tucked away without glass walls. Odder the Genasi was sporting the looks of two hands again. Closer look and the right one was a enchanted piece of ice formed as a hand to the elemental woman.

Talyara :: A smile eases onto Talyara’s lips when she hears the familiar voice of the ice genasi from deep within the greenhouse. The witch quickly snaps the door closed and stamps her feet to rid herself of ice and snow. Remembering how humid and warm it could get within the confines of the building the witch tugs off her hat and gloves and unclasps the cloak at her throat. All are hung on a nearby hook before she follows Emilia’s voice towards the back, noting those sought after flowers as she walks through the rows of flora and fauna. When she spies the woman, Taly cants her head to the side, watching the glass vials and the liquid inside with unblinking curiosity. When Emi poses her questions, Talyara smiles sweetly and helps herself to a vacant stool opposite the healer. “Tea and a snack would be great! So long as I’m not imposing. You seem busy,” she adds with a quiet chuckle. Already, the moisture in the air was causing her chestnut curls to volumize at a fast pace, expanding it to a frizzy mess. “Whatcha working on?” she asks curiously, wiggling her fingers in Righty’s direction.

Emilia :: Righty came out shortly after the witch had agreed to have snacks and tea with the Genasi. It was like a small butler tending to the two women. First it brought out a cup of piping hot herbal tea for Taly setting it down on the messy workspace before her, then a near frozen cup for the Genasi, followed by a tray of freshly cup of fruits and veggies. What a good third hand the Snowlady had. Still a smile on those lips after Em took a sip of her chilly tea, “You could nearly never impose on me. I always have time for friends. I am trying and failing at putting together a combo of ingredients to mimic the researched water that will allow a seed to grow out of its shell. So far, no luck. It has been nearly a year of work and I can tell you that I have found more ways to not grow this plant than one could count!” There was a soft chuckle that left the lips of the woman, jesting at her own failures. In this moment the brown curls would find themselves not alone in the madness that came with the humidity in the greenhouse as the white curls of the Genasi had longed puffed themselves out. Poor woman was in dire need of a haircut, those curls hit the floor from where she sat on a stool.

Talyara graciously accepts the piping hot cup of herbal tea and lifts it to her lips before pursing them together and blowing the steam before taking a tentative sip. The witch eyes the platter of fresh cut fruit and vegetables before selecting a piece of broccoli and popping it in her mouth with a satisfying crunch. She waits until she swallows before responding to her friend. “It is a special kind of water that needs to open the seed or would a bit of magic do the trick?” she asks curiously before picking up a sweet carrot stick. “My mother always said the greatest successes were born from the ashes of our greatest failures.” The memory of her late mother’s words cause the witch to exhale a sad sort of sigh before her attention is drawn once more to the genasi.

Emilia offered a small shrug after she had popped a berry into her mouth, chewed and swallowed before replying, “Thamalys and I have tried magic and a number of waters and things, but alas there seems to be no budge or change, but we can feel the life inside it. Kinda strange, but it is no see neither of us have seen before. Trial and error, but in time it shall happen, I hope. I do love a good mystery.” Another berry passed those frosty lips. The Genasi would be a giant berry if one turned into what they ate. The juice from the fruit turned frosty blue lips into a light shade of purple. Turning to the witch the Healer changed the subject, “What has your wandering out in this weather out to the Greenhouse? I have not seen you in ages. I almost thought you had vanished into thin air.”

Talyara’s emerald eyes shift back towards the various waters and she considers this curious seed as she munches on her carrot. “Hmm, well, if you ever decide you want to try a witch’s touch let me know! I’d be more than willing to help you out.” Talyara smiles across the way to her friend and partakes in another sip of tea before her expression turns sheepish at Emilia’s words. “Well, I did disappear for awhile. I was very, very sick and left Lithrydel to heal. I only just came back a few months ago.” As to her reason for being there, her face turns towards the yellowed flowers she had come here for. “I was wondering whether or not I could have some dandelions, specifically the roots? A nasty cold is running rampant at the fort and we’ve had so many grumpy, miserable warriors in the clinic. My mother made this tonic that fixed you right up, but it requires dandelion roots.”

Emilia nodded in understanding as it was not too long ago that she had vanished from the lands for her own personal reasons. Sometimes a break is needed. Then came the real reason for the visit, not to catch up, but to seek some roots from a plant. The cheer of seeing a friend never left the facial looks of the Genasi, “Of course, take as many roots as you need so long as you leave enough for some to keep growing. I mean, I am a healer, but I have no need for all these plants at all times. Would be rather silly of me to hoard them like a greedy grump.” It was a delayed moment that the Genasi finally took in the part of the story of the witch. It was as if a light bulb went on in her head and those light blue eyes lit up, “Clinic? You are working in the clinic? I would have never put two and two together, but a witch and a clinic is a grand idea! Have you ever thought about expanding yourself from just clinic work in Frostmaw to working in the Healer’s Guild? There is always room in our ranks for another healer. Can never have too many in this chaos of a world we live in.” It was now the Genasi was sipping her tea in silence once again.

Talyara bobs her head as Emilia sympathizes with the witch’s need to escape the lands for personal reasons. For Taly, she had been plagued with a crippling depression and an eating disorder which nearly left her dead. Going back to Kelvar, the village in which she had grown up, had been a last ditch effort before she allowed those mental illnesses to consume her completely. Based on the contentment she seemed to radiate and the fullness of her feminine figure, she was doing a good job at the healing. “I’m happy you’re here,” she expands on her initial answer. “I didn’t know if you would be up here, I know you own several properties. But it’s great to see you again!” Taly’s joy at seeing the genasi was quite genuine, the pair had always gotten along well. When talk turns to the clinic, the witch nods her head enthusiastically. “Yeah! Well, I volunteer. I’m living at the fort temporarily so I thought I might as well make myself useful,” she says with a chuckle. Emilia’s words plant a new thought into Talyara’s mind, one she hadn’t considered before. The Healer’s Guild? Why hadn’t she considered that before. Taly’s feelings towards the suggestion are evident in the joyous expression that blooms across her face before any words even leave her lips. “I’d love that, actually! Do you mean it?”

Emilia finished her tea as she watched the expressions of the other woman as the idea settled into her mind, transformed itself into a real thing, before finally sinking all the way in. Setting down her empty cup the small woman nodded her head, “I may be a monster, Talyara, but not that kind of beast, silly. I do mean it of course! The lands here are big and always in need of healers from shore to shore and even here in Frostmaw. You already have a vast knowledge of herbs from being a witch, it would be a great asset to the Guild to have one with your expert mind on board. I can almost fairly surely tell you that we all know you have great skills, but the Guild has rules to follow so you would start as a lower healer for a time. With you working the clinic I believe you might be one of the fastest ones to prove yourself to rank up with title. No reason for me to pick on you, but we all went through the same steps. Even Thamalys! Clumsy ol’ bird. You will also have access to more herbs, learning tools, books, and people to call upon if you need help. It is a vast network. If you would like to give it a try and see what it holds you are more than welcome into our ranks.” Back to eating berries, this frozen lady sure liked berries.

Talyara likes berries, too, and in an attempt to contain her excitement and not seem obnoxiously overzealous, she seizes a large, ripe strawberry and nibbles on it, silently willing herself to not throw her hands up in the air and woot in jubilation. What Taly wanted more than anything right now was a purpose and with her big heart, she had found it in healing others. She loved her clinic work, but joining the ranks of the guild would allow her to hone her skills further and reach an even broader range of people. Only once the berry is devoured, having stained the witch’s lips red, and Emilia having explained the basic inner workings of the guild, does she sit up a bit straighter. “I completely understand. It wouldn’t be fair to the other members if I came in initially at a higher rank.” Thankfully, pride isn’t one of Talyara’s struggles and she does not take this novice standing within the guild personally. “It all sounds perfect, truly. I was raised to heal both magically and non-magically so my abilities do cover a broad spectrum. However, I would love to learn more modern ways of healing as well. The clinic has shown me some, but I bet my dandelion root and brandy tincture will beat this rampant cold better than their treatments,” she adds with a playful wink in Emilia’s direction.

Emilia smiled from ear to ear, happy as can be that Talyara would be joining the ranks of her Guild. It took the Genasi about as much effort as it did the witch to contain her excitement. Not only was she getting a new member, but it was someone that she trusted and respected highly as her longtime friend. It could not be a more perfect thing to the Genasi. Clapping excitedly the Genasi let out a most happy squeal of sorts, “Perfect! It is settled! Welcome to the Healer’s Guild! If you wish to learn more on the mundane healing you will find Thamalys a great source to help you. He does not do much if any healing with magic and does mundane workings. I also think you will enjoy some of our classes that I am hoping to start up with the basics of mending and then even teach one or so yourself. However, I find that it must be time for me to get back to work on this seed trial before some of these vials expire. You may collect all the roots you need. Pleasure to have you on the team, Talyara.”

Talyara breaks out into a fit of giggles when Emilia releases a squeal of delight at her agreement to join the guild and she cannot help but clap her hands together excitedly. “Thamalys?” the witch repeats the name with a crinkle of her nose, Taly trying to conjure up a visual of the man the genasi speaks of. “I think I met him once before, but it was a long time ago. He probably doesn’t remember me.” Talyara opts to nab another strawberry and pops the whole thing in her mouth as Emi speaks of classes that she wishes to eventually offer to the guild and even suggests that the witch might take on a class or two of her own. “I would be honored to share my knowledge,” she beams across the table. However, when the healer mentions getting back to her task, Taly quickly picks up her mug of tea and downs the remainder of it before hopping off the stool. “Of course, I’m sorry I’ve kept you.” The witch affectionately blows a kiss to her friend and moves towards those necessary dandelions. Once she had procured enough to make her brew (and then some!) and places them in a satchel, she would peer at the genasi over her shoulder before calling out to her, “thank you for this opportunity! I’m very excited!” With her own squeal of excitement, Talyara practically skips back through the rows of herbs and flowers to the door, rebundles herself up, and heads back out into the blustery weather.
