Correspondence

Hello! I've come into a bit of a dilemma. You see, the foreman I contracted to build my restaurant for me was a bit on the disgruntled side and tried to kill me. I require someone to take his and his workers' place to finish the job and thankfully, I'd seen your post in the Kelay Tavern. If you're interested, perhaps we could meet there in Cenril, where the restaurant is to be finished and we can discuss things further? --Khitt Herzegler

Greetings Lord Herzegler, I am actually finishing up a bit of work here in Cenril! Let me know where this restaurant is to be finished and we can meet there to go over any details you wish. I look forward to hearing from you. -Xiem

The restaurant is to be underground, beneath the gothic garden. It’s right next to the Ginger Snapped bakery, which is across the street from the Cenril bank. We can meet there at the garden at your earliest convenience.

The Goth Garden, Cenril

When Xiembantointh was able to meet up, a redheaded male would be found in the aptly named Goth Garden. He was looking over a blueprint that had been made up by his female counterpart of the restaurant, so that it was easier for Xiem to take care of construction. Every once in a while, he’d take a sip from his cup of tea, mutter something to himself, then continue eyeing the blueprint.

Xiembantointh wears a simple short sleeve cotton tee shirt and a faded pair of denim slacks in the hot climate of Cenril even if it still might be a little cold for the locals. He is a creature of Frostmaw afterall! His work boots step into the garden and he takes a moment to admire the beauty of it. He looks about to find who he may have correspond with in the letters and happens to meander past a red headed gentleman looking over blueprints. Xiem knows blueprints when he sees them! A joyful grin spreads across his beard framed lips as he inquires, "Khitt Herzegler?" Azure hues flick from the blueprints to the man's face as he holds out a hand for a handshake. He politely waits for the man to ask him to be seated as he is also gesturing around, "did you plan out the landscape to this garden? It is truly impressive," and he makes a mental note to ask the man for his contact if Khitt did not landscape it himself.

Khitt took hold of the man’s hand and gave it a shake as he stood up from his seat. “Ah, I see you found the place alright then. I guess it’s not hard to miss sometimes with the crowds that pile into the bakery. Anyway, uh… It’s great to meet you! Wish I would’ve seen your job posting ages ago--I wouldn’t have had to deal with the unfortunate situation here.” He released the man’s hand, offered the chair opposite where he had been sitting, then took a look around. “Yes and no,” he said, with regards to the garden, but he didn’t elaborate. “Didn’t put it all together though. There was a botanist that used to live in Sage Forest. He ended up doing it before vanishing. Not sure where he went, but if you’re looking for someone with that sort of knowledge, there’s several in the Healer’s Guild, though there’s a couple that I know of well enough. One’s named Kailani--she’s a druid that’s a bit shy around new people, but amazing with plants and animals too, I believe. The other’s named Penelope. She’s a wonderful healer that specializes in alchemical healing and the like, and she owns Halifax Roots out in Northern Sage.” His gaze lingered on the garden for a moment longer and then he finally sat down, pushing the blueprints over to Xiembantointh. “It’s supposed to be sort of a restaurant-nightclub hybrid. Heh, have you ever built something entirely underground before?”

Xiembantointh nods while placing his other hand behind Khitt's in a sort of 'handshake sandwich' which only ever has intentions of friendliness, "yes, this bakery is my workers and myself's favorite place whenever we have a project in Cenril." Xiem's hands clap together with a short chuckle, "a pleasure to meet you as well!" They lower into their seats and he lofts a brow at the mention of unfortunate situations, "oh my. Well, lets see how we can turn that into a fortunate situation," he offers with his usual big grin - it seems this man is all positivity and optimism. Xiem gives his entire attention to Khitt as he elaborates on the garden and his hopes are dashed when he learns the botanist that worked on this garden is no longer around. "Interesting," he muses when advice is given on who to seek out, but the mention of Penelope registers with Xiem. "Ah, Penny, I know her," that wouldn't be a bad trade off at all if she helped him with gardens on other projects and he makes a mental note to ask her the next time they meet up to discuss her project. His gaze lowers to the offered blueprints and he rubs a hand along his beard while thinking, "in a way, yes. I have built things within mountains and hills. My first project was my home in a cave right after my wife laid out first egg," he offers proudly and inadvertently revealing the fact that he's a dragon, but it is never really a secret.

Khitt || “I certainly hope we can! Things weren’t great. The other foreman wasn’t ideal with his workers. Wouldn’t let them have proper breaks and lunches and all that. It was horrendous. And he wasn’t pleased that I wasn’t pleased with it either,” Khitt sighed and shook his head. “Anyway. I’m glad to hear you have some experience with underground stuff, even if this isn’t exactly like it.” There was no judgement from him about Xiem’s race, but he did look appreciative of the fact that the dragon had a family too. “So… I was thinking that maybe the floors and ceiling could be obsidian? Maybe black slate for the floor?” He pointed to two massive circles on one side of the map, near where the bar was to be installed. “These are iron griddles. We’d need to leave enough room in between for seating, for those that want to experience their food being prepared. It’ll need some sort of proper exhaust so we don’t all end up dead down there,” Khitt said with a chuckle. He pointed to a few more areas on the blueprints. “This is the stage. There should be enough room in front of it to allow for dancing and all that. The bar. The dining area.” He stopped and rubbed his eyes a bit. “It’s going to be named The Obsidian Refectory, so the theme is dark, like the garden here. The bits of the bakery that are made of metal are all wrought iron, so I’d like to try to match it. And maybe some iron chandeliers with stained glass covers to go over the candles?” This was his first go at having a place made and it showed as the redhead looked over at Xiembantointh, seeking any input he might have.

Xiembantointh doesn't say much about whoever the last contractor was because he dutifully focuses on his own company and the welfare of his workers. Most businessmen might think the dragon is bleeding money into his business because of how well he takes care of his workers along with the charity work he does, but taking care of one another is what he wants to leave behind when it is his turn for the great beyond. "Mmhmm," he actively listens while studying the blueprint. "Ah," he softly adds with intrigue at the griddles where people can watch their food be prepared. "Right, right," he adds with a short chuckle in tandem with Khitt, but he is quite serious about safety. "Exactly," he agrees while thoughtfully stroking his beard. Xiem looks up when Khitt is rubbing his eyes and then glances around the garden more when it is mentioned, "it sounds like a wonderful and lively establishment. Have you had someone come by to geologically inspect the area and ensure the structure would be secure for many years to come?" Hopefully the last contractor had someone do that before they even started blueprints. "In the event there is a fire, how many exits are there?" He inspects the perimeter of the blueprint.

Hopefully the last contractor had someone do that before they even started blueprints. "In the event there is a fire, how many exits are there?" He inspects the perimeter of the blueprint.

Khitt || “Oh! Uhhh… It hasn’t been built yet, but there’s supposed to be another entrance on the opposite side of the garden, to match the current one, and down below in the restaurant itself, there’s to be an exit that leads into the basement of the bakery. I was going to have wards added too--maybe something that can be triggered manually to summon some rain clouds in case a fire is too much to deal with?” He pointed each area out to Xiem before pausing and trying to remember the things that the former foreman had done. “And I -think- he may have checked on the geological aspects of the area, but you may want to do it too, just to be safe.” Khitt didn’t want to take any chances. “They hadn’t gotten too far with things down below. It was mainly digging down far enough and working to set up the foundation and whatnot.”

Xiembantointh should have been clearer in his comment, but he doesn't circle back to it. He continues to study the blueprint closely while listening to Khitt. "Hmm, that isn't a bad idea at all. I like that," he is curious how Khitt will achieve this because that could be quite useful in future builds. Xiem agrees with Khitt on having the area surveyed on his own, "that is probably best. I'll have my guy come out this week if that works for ya." He looks back to Khitt, "I see… Two things; do you have a copy of these blueprints so I can have one and are we able to see what was started?" Xiem figures he should at least get a look at what was started so he understands fully what he will be working with.

Khitt would’ve surely apologized if the misunderstanding had been mentioned, but as it wasn’t, he was left to watch as Xiem gathered what he had meant and looked over the blueprints. He withheld a grin as the dragon complemented his ideas on how to contain and prevent fires in the restaurant, and nodded quickly when asked about the blueprints themselves. “Oh, you can have this one. I’ve like two more upstairs, just in case I got it in my head to make additions for a future date, so it didn’t mess with this one,” he said, with a nod in the direction of the apartment above the bakery. “And yeah, let’s go check it out.” He stood then and led Xiem over to the wrought iron staircase that led down into the darkness underground. A small ball of purple flames lit up in Khitt's hand as he raised it, illuminating the massive hole in the ground. “Like I said, they didn’t get too far. It’s been cleared out the majority of the way and they were getting ready to add in the other staircase over there,” he said, pointing to the opposite side of the area. With a flick of his wrist, he threw the fireball carefully, and it skidded across the air and broke apart into several smaller orbs, like ripples from a rock skipping across water.

Xiembantointh grins with excitement when he is informed he can keep these blueprints! It makes everything much easier. He takes out a leather cylinder type of carrying case and pulls out a few other blueprints so they can all be laid together before they get rolled back up with the new ones and stowed away safely in the case. "Any additions you come up with - I will be excited to hear about, Khitt," he encourages because he loves the challenge. Most contractors abhor when last minute changes want to be made, but that is never a fun time for anyone involved when you have an attitude like that! Xiem walks around in the start to the basement turned club as he can start to see where things will go based off the blueprint and he strokes his beard, "now - I do understand the bakery will still be operational while we work down here, but please make sure to have cleared escape routes at all times just in case of something going wrong down here. I run a tight and safe operation, but you can never be too cautious. " He watches in awe of the magic this lad possesses, just amazing! "I am excited to get started. Next week my surveyor will be out here and within the week following that I could have my crew along with all the materials we need to begin if that sounds agreeable to you?" When the gentlemen agree, he reaches out a hand for a goodbye shake and a grin again, "I'll be seeing you, Khitt. Be well," then he follows the path they had taken back outside, through the garden, and along the main road in Cenril.

Khitt knew well enough at least to leave some time in between when a place was built and when to opt for some additions. For now, he was satisfied with what he had shown the dragon and was grateful that Xiem approved. “Of course, I’ll let the bakery’s owner know and she’ll let the customers know.” Thankfully, he didn’t have to remember to tell Khitti, seeing as how they shared the same mind and body, but Khitt didn’t really have a reason to get into all that with Xiem. “And all of that sounds good to me. Take care, Xiem,” he said, returning the shake of the man’s hand before letting him head back up to the city. After he’s made sure Xiem has left, Khitt fist-pumped the air in celebration of his impending restaurant and let out an excited ‘woo!’.
