The Tranquility, Cenril Wharf

Langley || Once upon a midnight dreary, there came a tapping. It was a gentle rapping upon Khitti's chamber window. Perhaps she was busying herself over volumes of quaint and curious lore. Or perhaps she was napping. Either way, the tapping at that window was quite insistent. Tap, tap, tap. Tap, tap, tap. This would go on for hours, if Khitti allowed it. The caller had nothing better to do with her time, presently. And playing messenger was just one more deal that she had made with that wretched necromancer.

Oh, Khitti was certainly napping. For once she was on Brand’s ship and that tap-tap-tapping disturbed her napping and threatened to awaken that sleeping bear that she called a husband. No, he wasn’t a werebear, but he had the disposition of one, and could even shapeshift himself to look like a bear if he wanted. One with fire magic. Lots of fire. So to keep herself from being accidentally assaulted by her half-asleep husband, she threw on the dress she had on earlier that day, went to the porthole window, opened it, and hissed out a “What?!” Okay, so Brand wasn’t the only “bear” in this relationship. “Do not make me come out there or I will make my cat eat you. And I don’t mean a tiny housecat. It is a very large sabretooth cat that will drag you through the streets of Cenril first to make sure you’re good and tenderized.”

Langley || A raven landed upon the ledge. Its eyes were strangely human and there was a red ribbon tied about its neck like a pretty little scarf. It looked upon Khitti, examining the person up and down. This did appear to be the one that the raven had come to see, which was quite wonderful. The bird had grown a fair bit tired of trying windows. At least Khitti did not throw something at the bird. That was also a pleasant change of pace.

"Langley of House Markan apologizes for not being able to meet you in person. She finds herself presently exceptionally busy but sends her best regards and hopes that you are managing well in these strange times.". The raven recited the rehearsed lines in a strangely human voice. "Langley also hopes that you do not find sending me in her stead to be disrespectful. If so, you may instruct me to reschedule and I will depart. But otherwise, I will convey Langley's message."

Khitti studied the weird bird as it spoke, delivering its mistress’ message. There seemed to be no judgement on her face besides that of ‘I could be sleeping right now and you’re not letting me’, but when it came to the bird itself? Nah. She’s seen a whole lot weirder. “House Markan,” she said to herself when the raven finished. “Vailkrin’s house of science. The antithesis of the now fallen House Dragana. The name Langley sounds familiar as well…” The redhead crossed her arms along the windows edge, her attention drifting away from the bird and over to the sea beyond the strange creature. “There is no need to reschedule, nor is there any disrespect. What does Langley of House Markan want with me?” Khitti had never had contact with anyone from the other houses that weren’t Azakhaer, Dragana, or Maharan. At least, not that she knew of. But considering how many people in this land liked their titles and liked word-vomiting them at her, whether it be from a guild, clan, or noble house, she was certain to have been notified of it one way or another.

Langley || The bird appeared to nod. "Excellent. My lady will be very pleased. Thank you." There was honest gratitude in the raven's voice, as if Khitti were doing it a personal favor. "I will be quick then. Langley seeks entry into the necromancer's guild and an alliance with you personally. While she previously aligned herself with the Draganas, it was out of necessity. Langley desires to see Vailkrin prosper. As a gesture of good faith," The Raven tapped a foot against the ledge to call attention to the messenger's canister that had been secured to its leg. "A vial of Langley's blood. My lady tells me that if can temporarily boost one's dark powers significantly. Langley believes that her access to House Markan's research could be quite the asset."

Khitti took the vial of blood from the bird and eyed it curiously. While she no longer was the type to ingest just a straight vial of blood, it could very well come in handy for a ritual of some such at a later date. She shoved it into a pocket on her dress, then turned her attention back to the raven. “I see. The alliance with Larewen explains why the name is familiar. I understand the necessity for having to align yourself with someone like here. That aside, Langley is welcome to join the Necromancer’s Guild. I -am- curious though at the want to have an alliance with me, when I’m neither a vampire nor any other sort of undead. Not anymore, anyway. I will have a copy of our guild’s beginner’s book sent to your mistress’ residence, but I would like to meet with her soon, if that’s agreeable. Near where the Dragana house used to sit, in the Dark Forest, is a spire, it belongs to the Necromancer’s Guild. She can set the time and the place.” Khitti pushed off of the window, her attention still fixed on the bird, though it was clear she was getting ready to head back to bed finally.

Langley || "Powerful friends. A favor given for a favor owed. This is how Langley operates. Just be particular about the wording if you shake hands with her…" The bird replied and then warned. There was a knowingness in its voice. "Regardless, I am sure that Langley will find these terms agreeable. She seems quite fond of social graces."

And with that said, the raven fanned out its wings and dropped off of the ledge. It took flight, soaring back to its master. It was eager to deliver the good news. A step in the right direction, just a little closer to her freedom…
