Quests

From HollowWiki

Basics

These are the basics that everyone should know before starting up on a quest.

Quests were implemented to provide a way for the PvE world and RP worlds to unite. Different quests may require different tools (PvE and RP), or both.

By completing a quest, you may be able to receive a unique item or other prize as designated by the completion of the quest.

How to Start

Quests can be started by saying the correct words to a NPC, giving an item to an item to an NPC, searching for the correct term in a designated room, using an item in a designated room, killing a mob, or by performing some sort of action in a specific room (climb/push/pull/swim).

Examples of commands that could start a quest:

  • say I want candy!
  • say to Mary I want candy!
  • search candy
  • climb candy bar
  • use candy
  • Fight and kill the Candyman mob.

All steps of the quest are performed in this way.

When you successfully complete a step, you'll be given an item and/or narrative that guides you onto the next step. You should keep track of the items and narratives in a separate doc or hmail, because if you clear your chat screen, it's gone!

Also, in some quests there are multiple rewards and you are given a choice in which reward you want.

Time

Some quests are "time-sensitive", in that you must complete the quest in an allotted amount of time. Some are unlimited, meaning that you can complete it any time and does not expire. If a quest has multiple steps to complete, each of the steps may be timed, and upon the completion of one, a new timer may be set for the next step to be completed.

Some quests can be completed an unlimited amount of times while some quests can only be completed once.

There are also quests that can be completed by an unlimited number of characters and quests that can only be completed by a small number of players who complete the quest first (this number can be anywhere between 1 and unlimited). For example, in the Larketian Fault Lines quests, only the first person to complete each quest could win. In this way, the quests were a race against other players, not a timer.

Quests can contain very specific time frames, like doing them only once, or once per day, or per hour, etc.

Where?

Quests are often updated by the admin and told to the populace of Hollow in many ways. This can be done through an admin announcement, roaming NPCs, or a readable note/book/etc. It is important to remember to read the login notes at the top of the page when you first log in, as often announcements are stated there that are pertinent to the current, active quest(s).

Quest Statistics

You can find out if you've begun a quest, completed one, or if you've abandoned an already started quest by looking in your stats. At the bottom of the page, beneath characteristics, you can find a link called completed quests. This gives you the statistics of your questing experience.

Example Quest

In order to get acclimated to the quest system, here are 2 example quests for you to practice with.

In Kelay Tavern, you can use a Salmon or a Carp from your inventory. In return, Mesthak makes 1 fish stew for you in return for the fish. This quest can be completed 1 time per 1 minute, and is completed by using either a Salmon or a Carp. You cannot use a Salmon and then a Carp as this would be outside the limitations of only receiving 1 prize per 1 minute.
