About the Weapon
The bastard sword is essentially a longsword. The term "Bastard Sword" is perhaps derived from the fact it can't clearly be categorized as a one handed or two handed sword, thus making it a 'bastard'. The blade is always straight and ranges from thirty-two to thirty-six inches in length, offering a reach that is always handy for a warrior. The edge is keen for hacking and slashing, while the straightness of the weapon makes it ideal for stabbing and thrusting as well. These types of swords are often found in conjunction with a shield, and are thus excellent dueling weapons. Of course, they can also be wielded with two hands for more power.
