An Abomination
How did this once-goblin come to be eternally bound to the necromancer Tenebrae? There's no point asking Maladroit - for the aswer would require a voice. And a mouth with which to speak. And Maladroit has neither of those things.
Nor has it any eyes, or ears. In fact the abomination is missing any discernible facial or sensory features at all. Where a face should be is a wall of blank, black and rubbery-textured skin.
To complete the creature's monstrous aspect, the pony-sized familiar ambles about ape-like, walking on its knuckles. Its dark, leathern wings are, as it walks on land, usually gathered tightly against its protruding ribcage. Lashing about its hind end is a viciously barbed and probably venomous tail. To further affront all that is natural, a pair of twisted horns are set upon the upper portion of its elongated skull. Multi-jointed fingers may be observed to writhe and wibble from time to time, the familiar's sole concession to outward expression of its arcane and secret thoughts.
Monstrous indeed - but only occasionally malevolent, or so it would seem. For Maladroit owns not the emotions of a humanoid, feeling creature and its motives are as arcane and baffling as the rest of it.
It can, however and despite its lack of sensory organs, somehow percieve somewhat in the manner of a sentient being. Few are those with any insight into the creature's mind. Fewer are those who hold such insight and remain sane enough to speak of it.
Maladroit appears to be currently masterless and at a loose end. Just remember, though - where this being is concerned, all things are rarely as they appear to be.
History
Once a malevolent goblin mystic, Maladroit was cursed to a terrible and bodiless existence by a several angry drow mages. Saved from this sorry state by the necromancer, the creature has over many years of servitude to Tene inhabited various form. So far he has occupied:
- a long series of undead crows
- an undead goblin (eaten by Leoxander)
- a basilisk carcass
- a faceless gaunt (his present and most durable shape)
Faceless Gaunt
Cobbled together via a blend of necromantic and alchemical processes, from the parts of various creatures melded into protoflesh, the faceless gaunt possesses several potentially frightening characteristics:
- dark and leathern, bat-like wings
- a pair of curved horns akin to a bull's
- no facial features or cranial sensory organs at all
- an eerie and mysterious manner of locating things and people
- a truly disgusting method of 'refuelling' itself
- uncanny strength
- many more finger joints than any creature ought possess
- a long, whiplike tail with venomous barbs on the end (toxin akin to fugu)
- the mysterious ability to travel between distant locations in a blink
- a knack for summoning illusions from the past... and more.
Hobbies
Maladroit enjoys lurking in the waters off the coast of Cenril. It likes to sit on the ocean floor, wibbling its many-jointed fingers. Somehow, though it has no eyes or any known equivalent, the gaunt thus spends the bulk of its time squid-watching.
It also enjoys lurking, peering, shedding independently animate body parts and taking long walks on the beach.
