Summary: Daisy and Iintahquohae have a fun evening on the pier. The kitten gives the seamstress some invaluable advice, and plans for a trip are set into motion.

The Gods Pier

Daisy - you see her. Standing there across the way. She don't got a lot to say, but there's something about her. And you sure know why, your heart tells no lies! You kinda... miss the girl. That music dances in the air while kittens swaytrot down the pier, taking in all the booths and games and people and treats and oooooh. She pauses by a little stall lined with little bowls filled with little bags of little goldfish.

When was the last time that Iintahquohae just shut the spinning wheels in her noggin off and went for a walk? The best things had a tendency to happen when she didn't follow the rule book to a T – She didn't even know where that book was anymore. So off the seamstress went for the pier, grateful for the sea and the breeze, the sun overhead, the music...? Music. Her vulpine ears swivel in the direction of the pier, and she notices the gathering of kittens first. Though she favored dogs, she possessed a fondness for cats. They liked yarn, and Inks loved it too, so. The plan was to head over, bend down and give one of the kittens a pet, but Inks stops short of that at the sight of Daisy. Then her whole world lights up. How long was it since the Blood Bowl? Gathering her skirt, the seamstress jogs over toward Daisy and the goldfish stand she's paused at. She's beaming by the time she stops at Daisy's side. “Long time no see!” Do vampires run out of breath? Because Inks' puffs her cheeks out as if she did from the little jog, but it might just be a holdover from her human days still.

Daisy is usually very good at knowing what is going on around her. Small girls pay attention to things that may trample, steal, or eat them at a moment's notice. But there are distractions to be had in the shape of golden scales, so when her beloved Inky's voice happens so close, the kitten has a startle! She squats and turns then leaps at her friend for hugs around her waist. "No tentacles today?" she grins mischeviously.

Iintahquohae throws her arms around Daisy as best she can from her height, but lowers into more of a crouch to give the kitten a better hug a moment later. “None today, sadly... Just, fox parts for now.” She scrunches her nose, exaggerating her concentration a bit to get those funny ears topping her head to wiggle independently, but it truthfully is a struggle for her. She hasn't gotten used to them yet, nor their matching tail. But maybe one day she'll get some tentacles. “How have you been, Daisy?” While asking, she looks to the bags of goldfish and marvels at their color. “Gonna get a friend or two? Or three?”

Daisy releases Inky from the hug. "M'good." She smiles as she takes in those new bits of ears and tail. People change all the time, but that is okay. She grabs a hold of her own leathery tail before it decides to perform a stabbery at something then looks over at the goldfish. "One at first." She gives her tail a tug and a stare and pointed finger of 'behave' then dives into her bag for money. "You're here, so we need two." Head first, she goes deep into that bag. Coins coins coins coins. How much is the game to play? The man at the booth leans over towards Iintahquohae. "Heeeey there! Interested in showing off some ring toss skills? I've got plenty of prizes to go around."

Iintahquohae recognized that tail, didn't she? Maladroit? She remembers the visions of the ocean's depths specifically, but doesn't question it nor Daisy having it. How could she with her own tail and ears? People change. Daisy's right, and yet again the seamstress can't help smiling. “Oh, you don't have to-” She'd have to get something for the kitten in return, but before she can offer anything, her attention settles on the man running the booth. Well she has to win a prize for Daisy now. “Sure, I'll give it a shot.” Her hands dive into the pockets of her skirt for some coins so she can start playing.

Daisy absolutely does have a maladroit tail. It isn't murderey like the actual Maladroit, but it'll cut you with poison when Daisy isn't paying attention. Inky friends don't have to worry though. The kitten has already given her warning and misbehaviors come with consequences. The feline is so very good at finding shinies that her coins are found in that bottomless bag of hers before beautiful ladies can rummage in skirt pockets. She puts two down on the counter there for the man. "For me and Inks." That man takes and inspects the coins before tucking them away in his own pocket for safe keeping. "Good! Good! Oh I just know you ladies are going to have a great time." He hands them each three rings. "Now all you have to do is get one of these rings over the goldfish of your choice and it is yours! You both look talented, I'm sure you're gonna win!" He takes a step back. "Step right up, everyone! See how easy it is to win a prize!"

“Oh! Thank you, Daisy.” She'd pay next round. Unless there were other games to play along the pier. Her head turns to look, but once she has a trio of rings in her hands, Inks gets a little too ambitious and takes aim at one of the goldfish bags furthest from her. She tosses the ring, overshoots, and hears it flatter to the floor just behind it. It didn't come close to even touching the goldfish. Inks feigns a look of disappointment, then makes a show of winding up ring number two like a baseball pitcher before tossing it toward another goldfish...

Daisy stands back while Inky throws her rings. She absolutely does not want to distract the woman's concentration with any kind of distractors like cuteness or adorabilities. Clatters happen once and then sportsball throws hop-skip-jump-fling off of the bowls as well. A little dark haired man cheers for Inky. "You can do it!" Daisy toys with the rings in her paws, watching with anticipation.

Iintahquohae misses with her sportsball throw at the rings, but she has to do it one more time with her final ring, just for the humor factor. This time instead of trying to get one of the goldfish bags furthest away, she aims for one in the middle that seams much more attainable. And it's a success, but not right away. The ring wobbles atop one of the goldfish in a way that has Inks crossing her fingers that it doesn't slide off, but it finally stills. The seamstress punches her fist into the air and cheers. “Yes! One is better than none!” Now she looks on for Daisy's turn. Will she get a hat trick? She has to.

Daisy cheers for Inky as the man in the booth grins widely. "We have a winner! What did I tell you, folks!? Easy peasy! That is one prize won and one more to win. How about it, little lady. You ready to throw?" He winks at Daisy before handing Inky her goldfish. Of course excited kittens are excited and bouncing from one foot to the other and back again. She's taking no chances! All three rings are in both hands. Left foot bounce. Right foot bounce. Left.. You get the idea. She closes her eyes tightly and lifts the rings behind her head before throwing all three at the same time.

Iintahquohae happily takes her prize from the man and flattens her palm on the underside of the bag so it's a little more stable for the goldfish swimming around inside. She's debating on what to name the little guy when she turns to ask Daisy for name suggestions and witnesses her toss all three rings at once. Now why didn't Inks think of that? Her head immediately jerks toward the other goldfish to see how many Daisy won, with a whistle of approval. “You've got this!”

Daisy seems to have the gods on her side today as all three, yes three, rings circle around bowls. Big eyes widen even more as she grins at Inky. "You are good luck!" Giggles erupt from the kitten when the man hands her the bags. "Lookie here, lookie here! Two winners with four prizes! Who is next? Who is next!?" Bags are taken and counted and looked between before Daisy beams at her friend. "This way." Prizes in one hand, Inky in her other, excited feet carry excited girls over to a bench of convenience over there by the edge of the pier. Once close enough, fish are put down on benches that are stood upon so kittens can find shot glasses in her bag. "Two for each. There are two for each of us." Because sharing is caring and while kittens are caring, tails are peeking and looking at Intahquohae's in cobra like manners.

Iintahquohae can't believe her eyes. All three in one go. Daisy did it! If it weren't for the fish she won in her hand, Inks would jump and cheer, but instead she cheers similarly to how she did for her own win, but so much louder. Poor guy working the booth. He covers his ears for a second. “You're incredible, Daisy!” Once the kitten collects her fishies and her hand is in hers, Inks follows her lead to the bench. Once they've settled, she nods in agreement while looking down at the fish between them. “Which two do you want?” All four are too cute, and she has to pick up one of the goldfish bags to get a closer look at them again while Daisy searches her bag. Her own tail doesn't have a mind of its own, but she's angled in such a way while she's seated that it sways a bit, revealing her overall cheery mood if someone managed to miss the grin plastered on her face.

Daisy places the glasses on the railing just there. "The credit is yours for being good luck. You can pick." She smiles and goes back to her bag, directing questions for decisions are to be made. "Black or green today?" You really should be more clear with your words. How should she know you mean? While bottles are searched for, long tails continue their hypno-dance in the general direction of lady luck just there. Can you hear it? Gentle words on gentle breezes: Trust in me... trust in me... DART~ That pointy tail makes a jab for Inky but is snatched up by a frowning Daisy who pops a cork on the end. "I said..." Apologetic smiles search for Inky's eyes. "Sorry. Tea?"

Iintahquohae has to resist voicing her silly thought about herself – that she actually was lucky to some degree. Maybe she actually was after all? She looks to the shot glasses, selecting the one nearest to her. “How about black?” It's a mysterious enough color. Just as she's about to inquire further about what they'll be drinking, Daisy's darting tail elicits a surprised shriek. “It's okay!” Ah, tea. That's why she asked green or black, and the seamstress can't help recalling the last time they had tea together. The thought of swimming under the sea again immediately springs to mind, with tentacles and hundreds of fish around her, and she nods eagerly. It might not even be the same kind of tea as before, but Inks didn't care. Any time with Daisy was something to be treasured. “Please, I'd love some,” and she holds the shot glass out to Daisy.

Daisy gives her tail another silent scolding as it shakes about in the timeout cork. Unable to free itself, it hides beneath her skirt to sulk. The bottle of black tea is produced with a treasure chest sound of 'duh nuh nuh~!' and uncapped for pouring. Each glass is filled to nearly the top before a fish is picked up. Did you figure it out yet? Have you guessed what is happening? Daisy is excited, but oh god, I can't watch. That bag is opened and a quick little paw snatches the fish from the water. Wriggling and shaking about, it travels through the air to Inky's glass. One down, one to go. "Snacks are better with friends." Didn't think the feline was looking for a pet, did you? This won't be bad, right? Tequilla has worms. So tea can have... fish. Her glass of golden tea fish is lifted for toasting. "To yesterday and today and forever."

Iintahquohae is very glad she didn't actually name the goldfish as it finds its way into her glass. She's eaten stranger things. Like horses. She basically lives off of them! A little goldfish is fine, and with that in mind, Inks holds her glass to Daisy's to toast. “Yes, to yesterday, today, and forever.” And then she knocks the black goldfish tea back in one strange swallow, and tries very hard not to imagine the little goldfish swimming in her stomach. Hopefully it passes on quickly.

Daisy easily downs her glass before making them a second with the other two fish. Yes, plenty for everyone. It has been a while since she's spent any time with anyone familiar, so this is nice. Settling on the bench, she leans against Iintahquohae and looks past the booths and the garden to the ferris wheel. Still not so fond of heights, kitten? She wrinkles her nose and looks up at her friend. "You okay? Happy?"

Iintahquohae drinks the second tea fish shot without hesitation, and after doing so she sets the emptied shot glass on the railing so it's out of the way. With Daisy leaning against her, Inks adjusts her position on the bench so it's a little more comfortable for the kitten. What a good question. It didn't feel right unloading all of her feelings lately on Daisy, so she tries to keep it somewhat vague. She starts with a slow nod. “Happy, but not quite. Like I'm missing something...” The seamstress knows just who she is missing, her husband, but didn't want to trouble Daisy with that. Instead of being direct, she talks around the subject. “Have you ever missed someone you never properly got to meet again, Daisy? Like...” She blows air out of the corner of her mouth to push a stray curl out of her face while determining how to best phrase her thought. “Like they were here once, then gone, and just when you think you've moved on, there they are again. ...Then gone the next day? There has to be a shorter way to say this,” Inks almost forces a laugh, but it's a little too forced. “What about you? Are you okay and happy?” She hopes so.

Daisy picks up her second glass before settling in to that adjusted Inky. A little purr vibrates soothing rumbles into the conflicted woman. This kitten is pretty good at knowing what needs to be healed. Hearts are exposed and there is a little pause before paws lift the glass for second shots. "Mmm. Yes." The glass is set down next to the other empty one. "But I think someones who only come back for themselves aren't worth waiting for. Or breaking for." She nuzzles in closer. "M'okay. Lucky today."

Iintahquohae hadn't considered that. She did in a sense, put herself on pause for someone else, only to do it a second time when he returned and didn't really stick around. Stagnancy never really suited her, did it? It only seemed to make her situation feel infinitely worse. “Maybe I should focus more on work and fun, like this.” She wraps her arm around Daisy as the kitten snuggles in. “On what's here, and not...What isn't, I guess.” The words feel right and wrong simultaneously as she speaks them, but ultimately, they are the truth aren't they? That's what mattered.“I think I'm pretty lucky today too, Daisy.”

Daisy is quiet a moment so thought can do what thoughts need to do before more things should be said. "Staring at empty glasses won't fill them up. Probably it is okay to fill them up with fun." But not work! Who wants to work? All play, all the time! She giggles. "And snacks."

Iintahquohae liked Daisy's way of saying it. Better than Pa's thing about watering dead plants. At least with the kitten's way, there was room to fill up the empty space with, as she said, fun. And snacks. “I wish I brought some snacks for you,” Inks begins, but conveniently enough, they're on the pier. There had to be a stall nearby with something yummy. “What's your favorite snack? Maybe we can find some close by.”

Daisy 's ears hone in on that offer immediately. Like. Yesterday. Satellite shifting to attention, them ears perk right up. She is glad hearts feel slightly band-aided, even though they're always a little cracked. That is okay though. Broken doesn't mean gone. You just have to be careful when you hold them. Paws are the best for that! She taps a finger on her chin. "Mmm. Goldfish snacks are small. Maybe..." Oh would you look at that. Just there, across the way is a stand with a smoker. "Meats?"

Iintahquohae gives Daisy a tight one-armed hug, and starts to carefully sit up and eventually stand so the kitten has a chance to readjust before she's on her feet. “I can do meats.” Whatever they had in that smoker did smell good. “How many? Lots?” Inks wanted lots. While she typically had a sweet tooth, she's in the mood for something different. Must be the good company and the goldfish tea they drank.

Daisy easily hops up from that bench. She's had that appetizer and is ready for more! Chonky kittens don't stay chonky by accident, you know. Glasses are tucked away in her bag and empty goldfish bags are snatched up because they are not litterbugs! No! Bugs are gross. They are pickyourstuffup kittens. Yeah! "Let's go see!" Little feet dance to music only the merry can hear towards the large smoker stall. Once there, it is a carnivore's dream! Chicken and beef and pork and venison and fish ~ far as the eye can see! A small, round, grandma of a lady is standing on a stool with a tray of porkbelly squares with toothpicks shoved in them. Behind her is a burly man of a man tending the smoker. "You girls look like you need a free sample. Come try."

Iintahquohae has to resist the urge to scoop Daisy up and plop her right on her shoulders. But if she did that, she'd miss out on the kitten's dancing stride. Inks immediately grabs a pork belly square for Daisy, and another for herself. Hers doesn't stay in her hand for long after she's handed one over to the kitten, as she scarfs it down, then pockets the toothpick. It's -delicious-. “We definitely need a bigger piece of that,” she exclaims to the sweet lady sitting on the stool. “And chicken. Especially if it's spicy.” Could they split an entire chicken? Probably. She hadn't eaten human food like this in ages and was happy to feast with Daisy.

Daisy 's eyes cross as that speared belly gets closer to her nose. "Mmmmm." She doesn't even take it. She just noms the bite, leaving the toothpick with Inky. It melts in her mouth and she's just as happy as her friend. The man glances over his shoulder. "Red caps are spicy." He nods to some bottles of sauce and flavor shakers. They have little peppers on them, indicating the spice level. One even has a skull and crossbones on it with firepeppers for eyes. Our kitten is watching the woman put big chunks of the porkbelly and chicken thighs into a couple containers when -they- are seen. The smoker man pulls them out of the barrel and puts them on a plate, crossed at what used to be an ankle: twin turkey legs. The massive hunks of meaty lollypops glisten with 'you need me' juices. Daisy reaches for and misses Inky's dress several times before finally grabbing them fabrics. "We need those too."

Iintahquohae didn't eat spicy food often, even if she liked it. Maybe she'll be daring and get a drop of the skull and crossbones sauce on a bit of pork belly, but there's a part of her that wants to get something with more garlic in it than spice, just for the joke given what she is. Also, garlic just tasted and smelled really good! Just like everything else on she can smell from that smoker. She's about to pay when she feels Daisy's tugging at her skirt. “Need wha- Oh...” The turkey legs. Since when has her mouth watered so much? “Yes, yes we do. Two each,” she adds without a second thought. “Two for you and two for me, right?”

Daisy nods excitedly as she watches the food get served up in dishes. As if minds could be read, she grabs the bottle marked garlic and a bunch of napkins before holding out her arms to be passed one of the large containers holding her set of the twin everything. Maybe her little belly will hold all the food, maybe it won't. Doesn't matter. She's gonna eat today! "Thank you." The old woman is pleased to feed the tiny army in front of her and gestures to a picnic table just down a little bit. "Enjoy it!" Any money Iintahquohae gave her is tucked away in a box for the man to protect.

Iintahquohae could easily just eat standing right in front of the food stall, but figures they might want to shuffle a little bit to the side. The meat in that smoker smells so good that it wouldn't be surprising if it started drawing in a crowd. “We could go back to the bench over there,” she thinks aloud, but then notices the edge of the pier. They aren't too far from it, and the sky is nice and clear. “How about we eat and do some stargazing?” That sounded like fun to her. She's a little too impatient to wait for an answer to start eating, so Inks miiight have taken a bite of chicken right after suggesting. Who'd blame her though? It's all so good!

Daisy looks up at Inks with her chonk of porkbelly hanging out of her mouth. "Hmm?" Seems she was ready to start eating too! Hungry girls are hungry, so who needs to wait for tables anyway. More than a few people will watch them head to that edge just right for pier peering, giving the old lady and (decidedly now) her son more business. The kitten sits with a smile and has more food. That bigger than her turkey leg is picked up and dug into. After a few bites, she looks over at Inks. "I would sail with you."

Iintahquohae tries to have some manners with how she's eating, but honestly she's going to just inhale one of the turkey legs once she's sat down beside Daisy. It's too good, and she bought two for each of them anyway. She'll just eat the second one slowly. Probably. Her ears perk up at the thought of sailing. When was the last time she traveled on a ship? To some strange archipelago, with Rilla. And Lionel. And some others. She remembered someone throwing a jacket on her on the trip back. Where did that jacket go anyway. Maybe Rilla has it now, wherever she is. “Would you?” Once she's picked the bone of the turkey leg clean, she sets it off to the side to throw away later, and looks out to the horizon. Her family had ships. They could go somewhere. Anywhere. “Where would you want to go, Daisy?”

Daisy forgot what manners are and just eats. This isn't there. You won't find fancy dresses or crystal glasses or plates with too many forks next to them here. No. Only a paper container with delicious meats, the ocean, and her friend. What else does a girl need in life? Nothing. Absolutely nothing. Maybe a ship. "Mmm." She looks out over the water at the rising moon. "Somewhere... Somewhere with spicy flowers and pretty threads." A little something for everyone, right? "And shiny things," she grins.

Iintahquohae liked the sound of that. “Maybe somewhere with a lot of stars or a lot of sunlight,” kind of like Cenril, especially now that night is on its way. “I'd like to see where I came from one day,” she adds, between bites of pork belly. “I don't remember it much, but I think it must've been alright. If it has spicy flowers and pretty threads and shiny things though,” Inks grins at Daisy, “and wonderful friends, I'd probably move back there one day. Or at least visit.” Do fish like bones? Maybe sharks do. She decides to toss the cleaned turkey leg bone into the sea and one of the bones left over from a chicken thigh. “Wherever we go has to have the best food ever too. Just as good as this.”

Daisy leans in a little to whisper just above the ocean splashes below. "You are the shiniest." She tosses her bones into the water for the crabs to get fat on before sucking the juices from her fingers. "I can get a ship. We can see where you're from. To visit." Her last bit of pork belly is picked up and studied before nommed. She sure did eat every last bit of that foodstuffs. "Good things will be enjoyed and bad things ignored."

Iintahquohae had to reverse the compliment. “You have to be the shiniest, Daisy,” she says, grinning. There was a little problem with the visiting where she came from. “I...well, I don't actually know where it is. Or what it's called. My brother probably knows, though.” She'll have to pester him about it later. This deviation from her usual day to day was helpful in ways that Inks couldn't properly put into words, but when she looks over at Daisy, her smile broadens. “Thanks for being here today. You're always here at the best times.” Must be her luck, or Daisy is the lucky one out of the two of them. Or both!

Daisy allows Inky to be a cheating cheater and use her own compliment against her like a cheater face and just wipes her hands and face with some napkins. "We can ask. I need time to find a ship." Lords know there aren't just a bunch of ships hanging out waiting to be stole--- attained in a lawful and honest manner. She returns the smile and hands over the napkins. "It is lucky for me, you're Lucky."

Iintahquohae's hands are a mess, and likely her face too with how quickly she ate, so the seamstress copies Daisy and wipes herself off with the napkins handed to her. “I'll bug him when I get home.” But not yet. Right now it's time to just enjoy the evening with Daisy. She could reverse the compliment again, but Inks thinks the kitten wins this time. And she certainly did feel lucky. “I suppose I am,” she murmurs, then drapes an arm over Daisy's shoulders to give her another hug. “Oh! Look,” with her free hand, she points at the sea and stars twinkling overhead. “You can see 'em all from here.”
