RP:The Letter

From HollowWiki

Synopsis: Raevyn finds a letter from Celaeno. It is not as pleasant as she'd hoped.

Date: June 5th 2018

Dormitory

‘’How bland, you think to yourself as you take in your surroundings. All around you are small cots, with cheap blankets and white sheets. They are all well cleaned though, and the cots look comfortable despite their size. At the base of each cot is a small trunk for each person to store their things in, and at the side of the bed is a small table with a candle and some individual items for each person. There are many windows, all with thin blue curtains that blow gently in the breeze through open windows. All this makes it seem as if they don't spend very much time in here. To the east is a door leading to the mage tower, and to the south is a small door heading towards the library..’’

There had been no word for weeks. No traces or signs that she had been around- Celaeno had stopped visiting. Raevyn couldn't blame her, really. She herself had been so wrapped up in that damned book that they had grown distant in some regard. Celaeno had been so hard at work, growing and learning as best she could. It wasn't as if Raevyn could expect her to put any of this on hold. It was just odd. Celaeno usually stopped by every now and again to make sure that Raevyn was still alive, yet it had now been weeks. Where was she?

To make matters worse, Raevyn still had not found trace of that book anywhere. She had been out in Larket and Vailkrin for most of her recent days, between studies and working for the King and Queen in estblishing the new religion. It was the same routine: Black Library. Graveyard. Larket. Home. She took the same paths every day; And still, no trace of that book. Had someone else found it? Did someone steal it? What on earth had happened? She dare not tell Bradyn about this. He might think her irresponsible. Unfit to ever visit the library again! Or perhaps worse... Maybe even expel her from the Guild. And so, she thought that she should seek out the only person that could help her- Celaeno.

It was late into the evening, a time that Raevyn would assume was when the silver-handed elf would be at rest. As far as she knew, Celaeno still resided out west, nestled safely in the village of Xalious. It was a cozy little village, and the mages were some of the most warm and welcoming people she had ever met. They treated her like one of their own. The venture from Vailkrin was not a long one. Raevyn had taught herself some of the quickest routes between the two regions over the many travels back and forth during her time in this land. With Tempest under her, she had made short work of the distance and soon the tower came into view.

It had been so long since the young necromancer had been in the dormitory of the Mage Tower. She had been so consumed in translating that damned book that she hadn't even really left Vailkrin much, outside of playing the role of the dark Sister and spreading the word of Vakmatharas. When the door creaked open, Raevyn had a smile on her face. She envisioned seeing Celaeno upon her cot, passed out and peacefully dreaming away. Yet when those pallid eyes fell upon that makeshift bedding, the girl's heart sank. It was empty. Not only empty, but it was abandoned. No books, or bag. The trunk at the end had been cleaned out completely.

Upon her own cot? A package. The item was wrapped in simple leathers with a piece of twine bundling it all together. How long had it been there? It didn't take long for her to dig into it, only to be taken by surprise when a very familiar object came into view. It was the book! The very book that had consumed her for so long. Did Celaeno find it? Did she leave it here for Raevyn to find? Why wouldn't she just deliver the item herself? Raevyn seemed concerned, and yet at the same time, quite relieved. She flipped open a few pages to make sure that this was the very same tome, when something slipped out from between the pages and fell to the floor. It was an envelope with a simple word written on its face: Raevyn.

The girl plopped herseld down onto Celaeno's cot and opened the letter without much hesitation. She was excited to have some form of word from her dearest friend. At first, the letter was pleasant. It would go on to detail how she had missed Raevyn and all of the wonderful things that had happened during their brief time apart from one another. Whilse Raevyn was busy with the book, Celaeno had been making several advances in her own studies. This put a smile on Raevyn's face. However, not long into the letter, things began to turn. The book was brought up next and the circumstances in which Celaeno had obtained the item were a little more concerning. Frightening, perhaps. Raevyn just didn't understand- She had no recollection of the entire event that took place that fateful night. Regardless, to have the book in her possession once again, to know that Celaeno had been there the entire time, that itself made the girl feel somewhat better.

The letter would go on to scold Raevyn a bit, to tell her to start taking care of herself. Something that caused Raevyn to chuckle. The pair were always on one another about getting proper rest or eating right. This was just like Cela to remind her. However, any light-hearted emotion that she were feeling now would soon be replaced with sorrow. Celaeno next spoke that she was leaving the land for some time. She felt that she needed to take time to venture, to travel on and seek answers that she could not find here. That maybe one day she would be back, but she could not speak of when. How could Celaeno do this? They had been so close. Had promised one another that they would always be there for each other. There was a lump in Raevyn's throat. The ink in which had been used to write the letter began to run as tears fell from the young necromancer's cheeks. The vision before, the one in Larket- Is this what it meant? Is this the conclusion to be interpreted? ...Was this even real? It didn't matter. Celaeno was gone.

Raevyn couldn't bring herself to continue to read on. She was once more alone in this land and it hurt. Bad. More than when her own flesh and blood threw her out to the wolves! Celaeno was everything to the girl and now that she had gone, the young necromancer did not know what to do. Raevyn lay back now, pulling her knees to her chest. The letter was held close to her heart and she just lie there, gently weeping into the pillow that her dearest friend had claimed during her stay.
