The caravan was successfully stolen, along with the horses, metals, and gems it carried.

The Heist

The day was quiet, calm, and filled with a sense of unease for off in the distant miles a war raged between Frostmaw and Larket. The tensions had become high between the rivaling countries to the point of an all out massacre between them and yet, some had decided to take advantage of that very situation. Lycidas was one of those great folk who’d decided that while the battle went on between the rival nations, there was one thing they’d distinctly miss when they returned. Off in the distance from the Xalious Mining Camp was Lycidas and a group of five vampires, watching, surveying, the fruits of all the death knight’s hard work finally coming to fruition. The villainous group watched as the cart with metals and gems left the encampment, their movements paralleling it, moving through the shadows nearby as they waited for it to get further and further away.. No back up would come today, for this cart was on it’s way to Frostmaw and Frostmaw was busy with Larket. Still, it wasn’t like the cart was completely unguarded, for towed by two very large horses, sitting upon each, was a mercenary hired by the mining corporations to ensure their shipments. Aside from the two men, seemed several other people, six of them, each armed with crossbows and looking like a ten year old with their first wooden sword.. All believing they’re better than they actually are. They lacked armor, they lacked talent, but were there more for the mirage of protection than actual protection. Each walking along beside it The cart was covered by a large tarp meant to keep prying eyes from being able to see within it, unable to know exactly what the two large men were protecting.

As the group of vampires watched and waited, Lycidas giving small orders to each member of the group, keeping them in line, keeping them from breaking their cover and concealment amongst the shadowy rocks above. He hadn’t gotten a real weapon yet, at least, not one which felt real enough to the large man.. Instead, he’d had to deal with a cheap steel sword that was nothing near accommodating of his size. Finally, after sometime had passed, as the sun was just slowly lowering itself over the mountain pass, and the darkness was creeping around the convoy, they were breaking camp. The dead of night was what the vampire wanted before he attacked but he also wanted a sense of the men themselves, who would take guard? When were they swapping? Was there a point when perhaps he could take the ore without a fight? And, perhaps a point when one of the two men that actually mattered weren’t awake? Still deep in the mountains, Lycidas began to plot the demise of the eight unlikely victims below and he had to be incredibly careful not to hurt the horses.. For, without them the entire plan was at a loss. Looking to the five, the man began to instruct them on taking the horses, riding off, and leaving the members of the caravan to himself. He waited just a little longer, things began to die down, food was in the bellies of the men below, and their fire's coals were getting low. As the mercenaries settled in, they instructed the six other men on where to station themselves as guard, two at a time, to avoid obvious loss of life. Should anything happen a warning was to be shouted, awakening the rest instantly.

The group of vampires finally prepared, the leader, Lycidas, donned upon his shoulders a heavy cloak. Within his hand was a mask, which fit perfectly onto his large head, blocking any chance of someone recognizing his face and ruining this for future attempts. His face now blocked from vision, the only thing left was to tighten down the mask, three straps, one from each side and one going through his hair, tightened in the back of his head, so that there was no chance of it falling off.. And finally, he pulled the large hood over his head, making it even harder to recognize him. He made an arm motion to the other vampires, something they could see clearly in the night, pointing them at the horses to secure them and get them away from the rest of the group. The two vampires who’d been chosen to steal the wagon and horses made their way towards them, each waiting just outside for the sign to begin.. And suddenly Lycidas charged forth, large blade at the ready, much to the poor surprise of the two guards currently sitting watch. They had enough time to yell for help, fire the one round from the crossbows the small distance between them and the death knight, and nothing further was wrote down of their stories. The sudden disturbance, shouting and fear caused the people to see Lycidas and his three cohorts, the two mercenaries rising with weapons at the ready while the other four men frantically grasped for their crossbows. While the guards of the caravan prepared for battle with the vampires, the two who’d been chosen jumped for the horses, “Hyah!” And drove the caravan away, a volley of crossbow bolts to follow them, smashing harmlessly into the wood.

The caravan of materials was carried off by the horses as they flew through the rocky terrain, lead by the vampires to a location designated by Lycidas.. The tracks from the horses and the caravan could be traced for miles, seemingly going in the direction of the Milous Plains but where from there was unknown. Meanwhile, back in Xalious, the mercenaries and the vampires were left behind to commit to the battle. Members of the guard unit were preparing to fight back, organizing amongst one another as they found a formation. The two mercenaries took to the front of the formation, the guards behind, reloading crossbows frantically while the other two men were about to take the brunt of the charge. Out came a volley, aimed to destroy the life of the vampires, each one aimed at a different target of the remaining four. The men in front of the group, both mercenaries, charged forth with a deadly yell, swords raised about their heads and designed to make heads roll.

The vampires were sent to Lycidas for a reason, he didn’t need to instruct them in combat for Larewen would never of sent him useless recruits. As the two large men ran towards the undead party, Lycidas stepped forward, sidestepping the blade of the one, parrying the other and watching as his troops ran around the two mercs to go after the archers. Back and forth the two men pressed on against Lycidas, the large vampiric man who was once human being forced backwards by the two mercenaries. Unable to strike back against them, their blades working in quick succession of one another, covering the openings that the other might leave behind. Each time Lycidas had an opening to attack, the other blade would come in and he’d be forced to retreat or get slashed. Suddenly shrieks pierced the night, as the archers fired their bolts, each aimed for the same target and piercing directly through one of the vampires.. At first, it didn’t seem to matter, vampires not caring if their bodies were pierced by weapons and then he started to find himself slowed, further and further still, “Help gu..” His body was frozen stiff, as if turned to stone, their bolts that pierced him laced with petrification potion. Unfortunately for the archers, it didn’t matter because before their bolts could be reloaded they found themselves swarmed.. That which goes bump in the night devouring them, drinking from their floods, slashing their throats, and ripping the four guards apart.

Lycidas noticed one of his men having being killed off, the death knight signaled for his men to retreat as they’d accomplished what they’d came for.. And yet, as Lycidas himself went to leave, neither of the mercenaries seemed to have any intention of letting him leave. Their weapons still sharp and ready, they came at Lycidas once again, swinging their blades in an attempt to kill him all over again. The vampire was taking no chance, the bolts were tipped in petrification potion, chances were so were the blades coming at him now. Armor was only so good at stopping blades, should it be penetrated he may be finished. The death knight took a chance and as the blades came in his arm swung deflecting them with the chain mail upon he wore and going for the kill. The mercenaries were not expecting this, one of them on the receiving end of a deathly blow to the gut.. Worried about his ally, he carried him on his shoulder, backing away from the remaining member of the invading vampires. Lycidas let them leave, the bodies left behind torn apart by vampires, and the petrified fang still stuck there.. Not ever coming free of the stone.
