RP:Test Flight

From HollowWiki

Summary: Korra's peculiar flesh experiments allow her to acquire the power of flight, through the stolen wings of a crimson dragon. The shaman known as Kumori watches curiously, following with his own methods of "flight."

Characters: Korra, Kumorohyou

Location: Scenic View

Kumorohyou quietly sits in one of the trees overlooking the cliff, the shaman clad in his strange exoskeleton to keep out the cold winter air that has taken much of Hollow. You ooc: Your turn.

Korra approached the area wearing her thick grey cloak--made of some kind of leather, apparently, although there was some kind of hair on it. It was warmer than her usual cloak. She was muttering to herself as she walked--not making a list, but actually having a one-sided conversation with what was either an invisible entity or an imaginary one. (Hint: Korra doesn't have any invisible friends.) "For the last time, I told you I'm not--shut up and listen to me. There aren't any good places to really tes--then why do you keep asking?! ...Oh, quit your complaining, you sound like a spoiled child. It's not even snowing out, scaredy-figment."

Kumorohyou could hear Korra approaching quite easily. The armoured feline leans to the side, dropping from the tree branch and landing nearby. His exotic accent has a slight rattle to it due to the effect of his faceless visor, his turquoise eyes glowing brightly through the translucent, steel-colored material, "Ah, those pesky figments. You can't take them anywhere, can you?"

Korra paused in her walk and gestured at him with a "See?! He understands" sort of exasperated arm-wave. "I know! Especially in this weather. He hates this weather." She shook her head and then glared off to the side. "Yes, of course. How else am I supposed to fly?" Then she rolled her eyes. "I would. Yes, yes, yes, yes, blah blah whatever I'm taking the cloak off." Then she took the cloak off and was clad in... well, her own exoskeleton, although hers was her real skin and not armor. She turned back to the man with a smile--or whatever that facial expression could be called, considering her mouth opened in three directions. "I added membranes to my wings so I can fly, but I've never gotten this far off the ground before. Want to see?"

Kumorohyou looks at the membranes on Korra's wings, the shaman nodding with interest. "I might just tag along. This looks fascinating." As he speaks, the armor on his arms and legs seems to behave more fluidly, projecting a thin film of material that connects his arms to his legs, and his legs to each other, before solidifying again. The membrane was quite flexible, making him look like a giant flying squirrel...with an exoskeleton. As if things could not get any weirder with this particular feline.

Korra nodded and spread her wings wider--she couldn't spread them fully indoors, because at their maximum--like she'd just opened them to--they were a little over thirty feet wide and each of the little "fingers" of which there were two per wing ended in a rather nasty blade-like claw. The membranes were strapped on with cord that seemed to be sealed with a reddish-purplish sort of material, and were taken from a red dragon. "Ooh! Maybe you could teach me how to turn, too. I haven't figured sharp turns out yet." Then without further warning she made a running jump off the edge of the cliff and pumped her wings once to accelerate her to flight speed.

Kumorohyou simply stands there and watches for a moment, ducking as Korra ran by with her thirty foot wingspan. The panther waits a moment before crouching and jumping off the cliff, doing a rather graceful backflip and spreading his own "wings." As he goes into free-fall, using his Spirit's ability to generate its own force to give him a bit more thrust, the shaman wonders if Korra even had the musculature to flap those giant monstrocities.

Korra 's body was based on that of an avian's. Her wings, while durable, were light and the muscles that attached to them were massive. She flapped once more and then just held them steady, deciding to soar for a bit. She looked back at the armored man and called to him, "Now what?"

Kumorohyou had very shortly reached terminal velocity, the shaman speeding right past her head as he attempts to give her some advice on turning. As quickly as he could speak in the common tongue, given that he was flying by her at about 100 mph, he says, "Tryflappingonewing!" though he wasn't sure just how much of that message she would get. The panther continues on, letting gravity do most of his flying for him as he maintains a 25 degree angle of descent towards the forest.

Korra could not fly that fast, unless she was in a dive, and harrumphed at him as he shot by. "Flapping one wing," she thought to herself, and then tried it--and turned a bit too sharply and had to pull up before she fell. By then she'd likely have almost completely lost sight of the feline and glared. "Didn't even say goodbye."

Kumorohyou is rapidly approaching the ground, and as such, didn't have "saying goodbye" on his mind at the moment. Muttering an incantation behind his visor, "Guze no ibn R'aiq." the panther projects a field of spirit particles to the ground to help him decelerate. Due to the lack of parachute, he has to improvise. A fine column of snow flies 30 feet into the air, accompanied by a slight ~POOM!~ to mark the place where he lands, generating just enough force to land safely. "Well...that went well."
