RP:Sushi Dinner

Summary: During a weekend spent in Cenril away from their kids, Magik and Meri get engaged.

The Rebel Room: Art Gallery

It was morning and business as usual at Treehouse D’Chath, Magik was presumably getting ready for whatever his day held. Lessons with a group of pyromancers, perhaps? As for Meri, it might seem like she was planning another typical day for herself and Fleur. Coffee was being made, breakfast was being prepared, a toddler was being herded through all of the typical routine activities. At some point before the couple head off for the respective days, perhaps during coffee or while they are indulging in breakfast, Magik is hit with a request from Meri. “I was thinking….maybe we could meet out to Cenril tonight and spend the weekend at the gallery? That is, if Mirshann does not mind watching Fleur for the weekend.” How Meri would end up spending her day would greatly hinge upon Magik’s answer and Mirshann’s willingness to be stuck with a toddler all weekend. While Meri had thoughts and plans for what she hoped might be a cute date-like retreat, the blonde tries her best to play it cool and contain any excitement she might have for what she was trying to plan. The blonde could not fully hide the hint of a smile that was pulling at the corners of her red lips. All it would take is Magik deciding he’d rather stay home at the treehouse to foil any romantic plans Meri was trying to scheme up.

Magik was just as involved as Meri when it came to trying to get Fleur ready for the day. Mainly, his goal was to keep Fleur distracted while Meri prepared coffee and breakfast. Whenever the little one would run into the kitchen, Magik would shoo her out while making it a point to kiss Meri on the cheek, give her a little squeeze, etc. At some point after Meri was done preparing coffee and such, a Mirshann would appear from her room. With her black hair a hot mess, she slips past Meri and Magik. Meri is offered a tired wave and Magik receives a quiet, "Mornin', Papa." Mirshann starts to make her own coffee as Magik settles into a seat at the kitchen table with breakfast and coffee. He starts flipping through a couple pages of a small book just before Meri suggests plans for the weekend. The elf looks up at his love and closes his book. Without hesitation, Mirshann agrees to keep an eye on Fleur. Magik is quick to look at his daughter and quietly laughs, "Five hundred?" Mirshann smirks behind her cup of coffee in agreement before taking the hot bean juice with her back to her room. Magik then looks back to Meri with his own smirk, "Well, there you have it. I'll cut lessons short today. The kids deserve a break as much as we do."

Meri could not help but smile as she watches the household in their morning routine. It was nice to feel like everyone was getting along and that they were behaving like an actual family. This only made her feel more confident and resolved in the plans she made for later. Before Mirshann disappears into her bedroom, Meri is sure to mouth the words ‘thank you’ to the teen. Breakfast and coffee would be enjoyed before everyone set off on their respective days but not before Meri presses a kiss to Magik’s jawline in a temporary goodbye. Magik was off to spend at least part of his day teaching while Meri would head straight to Cenril. She had a shopping list to fill and food to prepare before Magik even arrived. When Mr. D’Chath did finally make it out to Cenril, he would find that the loft above the gallery has been illuminated with a myriad of candles and decorated with black roses. Who said the men had to do all of the romantic planning and grandiose gestures? Meri was never one to follow these norms anyway. He would also find Meri in the kitchen area, barefoot but wearing one of those little black dresses. He would also find everything that the couple needed to make a sushi dinner, except the blonde has not even tried rolling anything up yet. Half the point was that it was homemade, yes? If everything was prepared and set out waiting for Magik, how would he know that she didn’t just cheat and buy him a sushi dinner from the nearest market? The spread included the rice (already prepared), crab, eel, tuna, the seaweed sheets, avocado, cucumbers, a few more veggies, and of course some sauces for dipping. Basically, Meri has half prepared a good assortment of sushi related goods, all waiting just waiting to be put together in rolls….or bowls. Oh, there was of course beer, whiskey, and wine...but the booze was basically just a household staple for Meri, as Magik well knows. When Magik did enter the two-bedroom loft, he’d be greeted with a knowing smirk and, “So it occurred to me when I was out shopping for all this that I didn’t actually know what your absolute favorite type of sushi was. Hopefully I made a few decent guesses? If not, next time will be better, eh?”

After finishing the amazing breakfast and coffee, Magik helped clean up any dishes and remaining mess. Meri's kiss to his face was met with a bright smile and a quick pat of her rump, "I'll see ya in Cenril." Then he was off to Xalious. His day was relatively easy going with his two classes. He met with his pyro students first. The class gathered outside of the tower for a laid back lesson consisting mainly of target practice. No homework. No pop quiz. Veneficus D'Chath just wanted the class to let off a little steam before diving back into the books in the days to come. Meditation class was interesting to say the least. The "lesson" consisted of Magik giving direction to Cynica to get everything back in working order while the students did the light work. The former OO member was busy scrubbing the floors, repairing windows and walls, and overall not having a good time. The students swept up the huge mess of feathers and placed the new shipment of pillows in their places. Finally satisfied by the day's work, he decides to call it the short day like he promised and head to Cenril. Black smoke zipped through the lands until he was finally outside of the gallery. Up he went to Meri's apartment, fumbling with something in his pocket up until the very moment he stepped foot inside. The elf's eyes light up immediately as he notices the burning candles and roses everywhere. "Oh wow.." Did she know what was in his pocket already? "You..are making sushi..?" He makes his way to Meri, checking her out the whole way, "And you look amazing as always." He places a loving kiss on Meri's lips and smiles before he takes a peak at the sushi spread, "I have yet to have sushi I didn't like..It's perfect." Having said that, he takes it on himself to get some drinks ready. Whiskey for Meri, of course, and a beer for himself. While he gets the drinks ready he says, "What's the occasion, my love?"

When Magik enters the gallery loft, he is greeted with a sly smile right up until Magik presses that kiss to her lips. His affections are returned and when that kiss finds its end, that smile has turned a bit goofy. Why? Well Meri now has to answer to her sushi antics. “Well I sure am going to try, at the very least. You’ll have to be the judge on how I do and if I am allowed to do this more often.” It at least looked like Meri was on the right track, perhaps got a few mildly decent pointers. Maybe it wouldn’t be the worst? While Magik fetches them drinks, Meri begins to attempt to prepare the first roll. Rice is spread across the nori, add in a couple veggies and some crab. Was this a good mix? Meri hoped so, if not Magik only had himself to blame. The blonde had given him the chance to pick his favorite assortment. She is just about to try her hand at rolling up her little sushi concoction when Magik distracts her by asking her what the occasion is. “Do I really need a reason to try and romance the pants off my guy?” Cue one of those smirks that Meri is prone to giving. It widens considerably which means she’s about to say something bold, brazen, or completely out there in her typical Meri fashion. Her sights are set back on her current task of finishing their meal rather than on Magik’s reaction to what she is about to say next. “....Plus you did once say you’d put a ring on it if I ever made you sushi. Maybe I’m trying to drop some not-so-subtle hints?” ‘Maybe’ had no place in that rhetorical question, she definitely was...and at this point, it is probably not even fair to define what she is doing as ‘hinting’. Meri is definitely one of those women who knows what she wants and is not shy about making it known once she has decided. Does that mean she knows about that ring in Magik’s pocket? No, she has no clue about that detail. She’s just being really forward. Depending on how Magik reacts, the blonde will finish rolling up the crab-filled nori, slicing it up and then plating the crab rolls. “You know, I thought this would be harder...easier than rolling a joint, to be honest.” An eel roll would next, followed by one of tuna, and then Magikrios and Meri would be able to feast until their stomachs were content.

Magik was trying his very best to not drool on everything. Between the fresh sushi being made and that hot tattooed chick preparing it..Oh my. The Lyastri did his best to not hover over Meri while she prepared the rolls. He did swipe a small piece of cucumber though. It's a good palate cleanser and breath freshener. Meri's comment about romancing his pants off did almost cause a choking fit but he stuffs it down, "Meri, my love, if you want my pants off, all you have to do is ask." Her smirk was met with his own. And a wink of course. Her next comment causes the elf to blush just a little. He's also super suddenly aware of the ring sitting in his pocket. Was it sitting weird? Did she see it? He was going to pop the question tonight regardless of what the evening might have had in store for them. His mind quickly wanders. Does he hold off now because if he does propose it'll look like he was expecting sushi tonight? It's just a huge coincidence, right? Before Meri can see the blood rush to his face, he starts to look for a couple of small plates for the rolls. He can't ignore Meri calling him out on the comment he made months ago and he definitely can't deflect it. He sets the two plates next to the rolling station and presses a quick kiss to Meri's cheek, "Let's just see how it comes out, yeah?" Great. Give Meri a reason to be nervous. Way to go, Magik. And while she's holding a knife? Very smart. "I mean..it looks amazing. I can't wait to try it. " With every cut Meri makes, his nervousness grows..so does his hunger.

Meri was pretty confident that tonight was shaping up to be a fairly cute date night for the two of them. I mean, how could it not be cute? She had on a hot dress and was doing her best to make Magik’s absolute favorite. Doubt started to creep in when Magik retorted with ‘let’s just see how it comes out, yeah?’ He may not have meant to make her nervous, but it was happening. And while she was holding a knife too! Oh my. Would this be the moment that Meri turns to a violent level of crazy? Naw. She keeps her back to Magik, so he can’t actually get a read on how nervous he just made her. This also means that she can’t see him blush or gauge his nervousness either. Meri was not very, very focused on that sushi, despite her focus, she was not preparing the following sushi rolls with the same ease as the first. Blame her nervous mind. She at least has the good sense to slow down her cuts, neither she nor Magik will be bleeding tonight. Either way, the task is done. Those two small plates Magik has fetched for them are loaded up with a few rolls of each flavor and by the time the blonde is done Meri.exe has managed to restart….or at least gain some semblance of composure. With a plate in each hand, the blonde turns to the tall elf and rises to the balls of her feet so that she can plant a smooch to his jawline. She then goes for some stupid humor, “Ask? Please, all I have to do is wiggle my brows at you.” She promptly steals Magik’s signature move, except her hands are full with their dinner plates and Meri moves away from Mr. D’Chath and over to the dinner table. The plates are set on the candle-decorated table and Meri settles into a seat, giving Magik the chance to do the same before she asks, “How are things coming along at the Mage’s Tower? Is there still a lot of repair work to be done? Or is it almost all fixed up?”

Magik snatches up the drinks and follows Meri to the dinner table. Each step closer causes his heart to drop as he really starts trying to determine when the best time is to pop the question. Before dinner? After? During?! Definitely not during. Fishy breath, etc..Then again, ginger is a pallet cleanser. Was there even ginger?! As Meri makes herself comfortable at the table, he places her drink in front of her and reaches to place his drink just across from her. "Just do it now, you idiot," he thinks to himself. Meri's questions come just as he was about to get seated into his own chair but he pauses before he can fully settle in. Those fiery black eyes look over to his love, "Meri, I.." The elf takes a breath and smiles. He stands up and walks back to Meri's side of the table. He takes in the scene before him and becomes hyper fixated on the sushi for a quick moment. So. Hungry. He goes to reach for a piece but takes Meri's hand instead. "I, um.." He cooly drops down to a knee and looks up at Meri, "..I have been wanting to do this for a while now but haven't had the chance because, well, wanted criminal, Guild matters, and all of that..And seeing you and Rumi outside of the tower even though I didn't want you two there kind of solidified this for me.." He pauses while he reaches into his pocket to retrieve a ring..without the box. This knucklehead really forgot the box! How does that even happen? It was literally in a fancy little box when he bought it. What the..Anyways. Magik looks deep into Meri's eyes as he presents the unboxed black diamond ring, "Meri Boyce, will you marry me?"

Meri is trying her best to play it cool after Magik had successfully made her nervous, except he’s being so odd as they make their way to the table and try and settle in for dinner. It is quite the struggle to keep her nerves contained. If it weren’t for that flash of a smile from the man, Meri would probably start thinking they were about to break up. Meri is absolutely perplexed and she is not doing a good job of keeping her confusion off her face. Confusion shifts to surprise when Magik gets down on one knee, then to excitement, and finally to happiness once a ring is actually presented. Did the thought that Magik might be expecting a sushi date even cross her mind like Magik was concerned about? Nope, Meri was just looking pretty stoked right now. Did she care that there was no box? Most certainly not. There is zero hesitation to her answer, “Magikrios Lyastri D’Chath. You are without a doubt the best thing that has happened to me since Fleur and I love you with all of my black little heart. Of course I will marry you.” There is some smooching and shmoozing after she says that, at least Meri’s going to and shower Magik with a bit of affection. After, Meri’s going to have a stupid smirk on her lips. “The future Mrs. Lyastri D’Chath. Or…? Just the future Mrs. D’Chath.” A brow is lifted momentarily as the blonde contemplates her own preference to this. “I guess we can figure that part out while we actually eat dinner and figure out if I am ever allowed to make sushi again, or if I need a few more lessons first.” Meri has manners enough to wait for Magik to actually get up off his knee and get settled at the table before diving into their meal.

Magik was absolutely smiling through the many smooches of Meri, returning each one lovingly. The best thing to happen to her? How about the best thing to ever happen to him? He makes that known to Meri and even throws Mirshann in the mix. He's finally about to have the happy family he's always wanted. There was a soft laugh at the name suggestion, "I kind of like the ring of Mrs. Lyastri D’Chath, to be honest, but of course that's up to you." He finally gets to his feet and places a kiss on top of Meri's head before he settles back in his seat. He could definitely feel a huge weight off of his shoulders as he starts eating the amazing meal before him. The first bite of sushi is as expected. He closes his eyes and leans his head back. After the sushi piece is properly chewed and swallowed he looks to his future wife, "Amazing. Simply amazing. Just like you." He warmly smiles at her then continues with his dinner. This time he tries the various dips and sauces that are present. This man loves his Meri and sushi.

Meri was absolutely elated and would probably be so for the remainder of their kid-free weekend, if not longer. There was a part of Meri that did not really want to settle in for dinner, it was more than tempting to try and keep loving up on the elf despite her suggestion that they enjoy their dinner. Even if it was her suggestion they eat. Magik was not the only one who was starving. They had all weekend for romance. Meri was a bit more skeptical of her sushi making skills, but of the two of them Magik was the connoisseur. “Yeah?” Meri says, not focusing on which name she’d prefer just quite yet. Meri finally takes a bite, chewing and then swallowing before sharing her own conclusion, “I guess it’s not too shabby for a first try. Lucky you, it’d be a shame if you got stuck eating bad sushi for the rest of your life,” Meri teases with a smirk. “As far as the name? I would be happy with whatever you prefer, for the record…but Mrs. Lyastri D’Chath makes me feel like I am embracing our whole future and all of the family in it, rather than half of it. As you’ve done with Fleur. Besides, I think we both know that I have a bit of wolf bias going on…” A detail Magik has probably been aware of ever since he blew her mind by revealing that he too had a wolfish side. Meri is just about to pop another sushi roll into her mouth when another question pops into her mind. “Last time Rumiko and I spoke, she was curious to know if you and I had ever talked about if you were going to try and bond me to a wolf, as with other Lyastri? We’ve never talked about it before, but if we’re going to get hitched…Well, where’s your head at with that?” Meri had her own thoughts, but she’s done enough talking for the moment and well…she has a dinner plate to work on emptying. Did Meri forget about her previous questions about Magik’s day at the tower? Kind of, a marriage proposal is apt to do that.

Magik was all smiles throughout the conversation with his future wife. His smile widened even more after hearing Meri's thoughts on "Mrs. Lyastri D’Chath." It fit Meri perfectly and she was fully embracing it. He then nods after the next piece of delicious omnoms was popped in his mouth. It's considered rude to talk with your mouth full of food so he nods his head up and down a few times while he chews and swallows. All in the clear he replies happily, "Done and done. Meri Lyastri D’Chath. I love it." He was just about to continue with the meal but her next question makes me pause and think. "Well, -I've- never bonded anyone before. That's not to say I'm incapable of it. I just lack the knowledge." He tilts his head slightly to the side, "I say we start doing some digging, yeah? Especially with you already being able to turn into a wolf. I just don't know if the two wolves would have conflict and such..I don't want to put you in any danger, my love, so I'd rather be sure of what would happen before we try anything." With his plate damn near clear at this point he picks up his drink as he smiles at Meri. He then reaches halfway across the table with it, "I love you more than words can describe and I'm excited for our future together..To us."

Much like Magik, Meri was all smiles during their dinner. Even as things got down to the more serious subjects of bonding, Meri’s smile didn’t fade. There were points that she nodded in agreement, she too had concerns about if the two wolves would have conflict with each other. She’d speak her mind in a moment though, as Magik was reaching half way across the table to toast to them. Meri’s smile would widen if it could, but the man has already managed to put her in a stupidly good mood. The future Mrs. Lyastri D’Chath picks up her own drink and meets Magik halfway without hesitation. “The words I would use personally are…You are the absolute love of my life.” She blows him a kiss before taking a drink in cheers. Her words might be a bit cheesy, but it was also no lie. I guess Meri was feeling a bit of mush. Anyway, after dinner Meri will clean up and then the two can spend the rest of their Cenril weekend hanging out.
