Larket Town Square

Emilia had arrived to the city not too long ago in order to offer aide to the city while it was currently suffering without leadership and was still present in the Square after a meeting had gone slightly strange for the Genasi. The woman was small with a tiny frame, one might swear she would break if the wind blew too hard, with long stark white curls tangled in a mess around the snow-white woman dressed in a simple white gown that flowed freely about her with each pacing step. The worn leather boots that she’d worn on the trip over had been taken off, left sitting next to the gazebo tipped over with snow falling from them, slowly melting into the ground. As the pale one paced in the same path of eight steps over and over again the ground below those bare feet started to freeze over in a patch that stood out ever more so than the ghostly looking woman. Lots in thoughts while creating a slick patch of ice in the square the Genasi was oblivious to the world around her for the moment.

Nasada approached from the southern entrance of Larket, having journeyed from from the western reaches of the Xalious Mountain Range. She was dressed head to toe in black, a sharp contrast to the pale of her flesh. Over one shoulder a dual strapped bag was slung, the look of the article seeming to be very new. Whatever inside must have been heavy, for Nasada seemed to walk a little hunched over. As her corpse-like blue eyes took in Larket, she spied Emilia up ahead. How peculiar was this woman, she thought. Slowing her pace, Nasada eventually stopped and made an attempt at some sort of social interaction. "Um. Hello..." she said. "Aren't you.. cold?"

Emilia slowly came out of her mental thoughts as the sound of a strange voice reached her ears. Blinking a few times Emi came to a stop standing on the patch of ice barefooted. Icy-blue eyes fell upon the other woman studying her closely with an intent gaze on the possible heavy item being carried. Pale-blue lips curled into a brief half smile at the question poised at her, “Am I cold? Yes, I am freezing…beyond freezing. Deathly cold.” All honest words spoken with almost a sarcastic tone when she answered Nasada’s question, “However, lucky for me I cannot feel the cold anymore. I highly suggest you do not touch me though, I am sure you can still feel the cold and I would not like to accidently give you some Frostbite. It has happened before, sadly. Don’t worry, they lived.”

Nasada takes a step backward. That's right! Safety first! She seemed quite puzzled at the notion, one hand lifted to pull back the hood covering her features- just slightly. "Are you a spirit? Or um. An elemental type creature?" She was straight to the point in asking. She had to know. "Apologies. I don't mean to pry, but I am not from this land, so this is very unusual to me." A shift of stance would have her free arm sliding through the other arm strap of her bag so that the full weight was supported on her back. She stood a little taller (hardly) now.

Emilia blinked slowly as she took a step off the ice and closer toward the woman, but stopped within handshaking distance, “Emilia, not a ghost.” She offered in a polite greeting toward the stranger. “Sorry, I was a bit harsh there, but I find that nearly everyone asks me if I am cold…just a question I have learned I do not like so much for the answer is obvious.” There was a small pause as the woman shifted her stance as frost started to form on the ground below her feet, “And to answer your question, I am what one calls an Ice Genasi…so slightly related term to a lesser type of elemental being.”

Nasada was now more than intrigued. "Ice... Genasi?" she parroted. A polite smile is offered as she takes a moment to study Emilia, every portion of her entity enveloped into her memory banks. "Are you one of the summoned? I only ask because I know someone that summons elementals. Are you like that? Or different?" She really was an inquisitive one. "Oh. Well. At any rate, it is nice to meet you Emilia. I am Raevyn."

Nasada looked at Emilia.

Emilia was now the one to take a step back, perhaps safety was in her best interest with one asking so many questions of her. “I would like to help answer your questions, but I find the last person that took such an interest in me with their questions wanted to put me into a cage to study like I was some type of rare creature…” Rare creature? Aye, she was that for sure, a rare creature. “So, as much as I could answer you I fear I would not like to end up locked up by you to be poked and prodded and questioned…”

Nasada lifted both hands up as if she were about to be robbed. "Oh no! Please!" she started, inky locks of hair slightly swaying with the shake of her head. "I do not mean any harm. Truly. I ..it's just.. where I am from, such things were not known to exist. I mean, I just learned that lycanthropes are still alive! So, you see, your case in particular stands out. It's... interesting to me." Ebony lips smile in a gentle manner, trying to come off as the least bit of threatening that she could. " I'm sorry. I don't mean to pry.." In an attempt to salvage the meeting, Nasada asked, "So. Do you.. live around here?"

Emilia almost felt bad for make the woman feel like she was a bad person with her questions about something new and interesting to her. “I grew up here when I was a human.” More interesting than before, yea, Emi totally played into throwing another twist into the facts there for Nasada to ponder. “I do not recognize you, but that would most likely fall due to your earlier statement that you are new to here. There is a local eatery near-by would you like to sit down for a meal? Take a load off your back and rest some? What is it that you are lugging into Larket, anyways?”

Nasada lofts a brow. She was once human? What sort of spell craft could do this to a human?! Her mind began to race. She needed more books. To Emilia's offer, Nasada nodded politely. "Sure, I suppose I could go for a bite! I haven't eaten in a while.." she said. Truthfully she could probably eat a lot right now. She was far skinnier than she used to be. Then at the sudden question as to what she carried with her, Nasada offered, "Oh. Um. Books? Geography and history of the surrounding regions. I am trying to learn about where I will have to call home. I just love learning new things!"

Emilia found that perhaps Nasada wasn’t as scary as she seemed to be with those questions of hers that came flying out of her mouth. “Tell you what, we can stop for a bite and you can eat whatever you like on me and then I will even try to answer some of your burning questions.” Pausing, “I cannot answer them all, however…I do not have all the answers yet myself. Still a little confusing and a good deal of learning daily…Let me get my boots. Most places I find do not like their floors turned to an ice rink.” And as such, Em moved to slip back into her boots before rejoining Nasada so the two could go for a meal.

Nasada would have squealed in the past. However due to the last year's worth of events, she was far more calm. Her face lit up as the prospect of being able to become a bit more inquisitive, but even moreso at the idea of food. FOOD! "Okay! Um. The eatery. That would be... Kyla's correct?" Obviously she was familiar with the area. As she watched Emilia gather her footwear, Nasada took a moment to once again shift the weight of the backpack. She will have to definitely store those books back at the Ranch, later.

Emilia nodded as she found her way to Nasada, “Yes, I believe that is the name of the place. Forgive me I am terrible with names. Would you like me to carry those books for you? Perhaps give you a moment to relax before you end up with a permanent hunch in your back…” A soft smile of ice-blue lips as the tiny woman offered to give some relief to the other female before she let her stuff herself with her food at the Eatery.

Nasada pulled the old 'I'm stronger than I look' routine. She straightened her posture, tugged at the top of the straps and chuckled with her response. "No no, I wouldn't dream of it! I do appreciate the offer, however. It is very kind of you." A little wink given to the other, Nasada then took lead and headed toward the Eatery. She was excited for a chance to learn!

Kyla's Eatery

Emilia wouldn’t make Nasada let go of the books, but Emilia would slip to the door to the Eatery so that she open the door for the other woman. Walking in behind the other the Genasi would wave a hand to let Kayla know she was in here before moving to pull out a chair for the newly met lady to sit at. “Like I said, don’t be shy with what you order. Kayla’s food is great if you have not eaten here.” And so the tiny icy woman would take seat across from Nasada, “I like people like you that seek knowledge.”

Nasada casually thanked Emilia as she sat down, the heavy backpack hitting the floor with a fairly loud THUD. She could probably kill someone with it. "I only came in once for directions. I never had the chance to try the food, so this should be great!" A little wiggle of her black-painted nails were directed at Kyla; the very woman that helped give her directions the a few evenings prior. Glossing over the menu, Nasada commented, "I am glad that you are a little more at ease. I tend to come off as a little overbearing when I am curious. Especially in this world that seems so... alive compared to my own!" The poor girl almost salivated as she poured over every entry on the menu, settling on two items in particular. "Oh my. Shepherds pie and smoked turkey look so good! I think i will have that!" Despite what had taken place so long ago, it seemed that slowly, Nasada was becoming her former exuberant self.

Emilia looked at Nasada.

Emilia gave a small giggle that sounded like ice clicking against glass at the sound of the thud of the books as they hit the floor. After the other woman made an order the Genasi for herself, “Just a glass of apple wine for me, thanks” said in a light tone. As much as Emilia once loved to dig into food herself she had sadly found that food is not as enjoyable when it cannot be eaten hot and must be stone cold for her. Could be the cause to the lack of meat on her bones… With the orders placed Kyla went off to start the order for the pairing. “When I was human I would be fully fine with all the questions at once, but since the turning I have found that things change when you are the one that people are curious all the time.”

Nasada folded one hand over the other listening close while her meal was being prepared. "I suppose it would be a little daunting. Even bothersome and annoying. I honestly do not blame you for being so apprehensive to the whole thing." A soft smile was offered, the youth trying to relate in some way. "I suffered a change myself. Not so drastic as what you seem to have gone through, but enough that I had to deal with a barrage of questions regarding what had happened as well." A moment was taken so that she could get a more thorough observation of the frigid woman. "If you want, I can keep my questions at bay. I don't want to add to your already terrible burden."

Emilia shook her head slowly, “I offered you both food and free reign to question me. Perhaps you will have some question I have not been asked yet that may also provide me with something new that I have to look into myself so that I can better understand myself. I am sure though most of your questions will be the same ones I’ve been asked, but that is okay. Eventually, I should be used to such.” At this time Kyla was returning with the food ordered and a glass of apple wine for Emilia. Em smiled, loving the service that was here for such a small nice place. “Enjoy the food.”

Nasada may have seemed the anorexic type, but the reality was fat from that observation. With Emilia's most recent words, she wouldn't have to say it twice. The fork was lifted and promptly stabbed into a fairly large portion of the shepherds pie, immediately then to stuff her face with an audible 'Mmmmmm'. She chewed with her mouth closed, but those cheeks were puffed out. How graceful. Upon the first swallow, Nasada took here cue, "Okay. Well. The first thing that has me most curious... is how is it that one goes from human to ...um..Genasi, was it? Is it a spell? A curse?"

Emilia was an odd one and wouldn’t admit, but Nasada was a rather cute looking with puffed up cheeks stuffed with food. A female that wasn’t dainty and afraid to get some dirt on her fingers in the lands and a brain too. “Well, the proper question would really be ‘How does one go from Genasi to human and then back to Genasi again’, but you didn’t know all the fact to ask. Ah, well that is still a bit of a good question though. A witch gave a spell with blood magic to my parents to allow them a girl child. So, the genasi was binded into a human. And as such, I never knew and lived as a human to a human family who was then murdered and I was blamed, put to the whip, and then taken into slavery, then I murdered the man after enough beatings and went into hiding then took up running the farm again. Alas, then one day I got stabbed on my way to Venturil by a bandit attack. In result a stranger made a make shift sled and darted off with me to take me back to her village. Surprise encounter with an ancient undead shaman that healed the wound and broke the binding spell to heal the trapped soul. Over a long time I slowly lost feeling and began to turn cold and white. The element settled in and I was no longer a magicless clumsy human.”

Nasada 's jaw hung agape. For almost the entirety of Emilia's tale. How tragic! She thought her own suffering was bad, but she in truth had no real idea of how easy her life had been. Once the information had been processed, she closed her mouth and swallowed the remainder of her food, a sickly squelch sounding out as it forced its way into her gullet. "Oh my goodness. That... that... just. Oh my." Knitted brow, the youthful woman looked down at her plate. This really was a lot to take in. Less the glutton now, she took another bite of her meal, turkey this time, a little more polite in its consumption. "I'm sorry to hear of those hardships, Emilia. I could not imagine such a fate..." A reassuring and perhaps comforting smile was offered. "So... you are spirit-born into human form? Peculiar. What.. is it like? To be such a creature compared to once bearing the human condition?"

Emilia would let the other woman enjoy a few bits of food after she question as she pondered how best to answer the question so that the other might have a way to compare the feeling. “It is hard to explain, but I will try to make sense of this answer for you. Imagine if you will your favorite book that you love to read, to hold, to smell, to carry around with you… Best feeling in the world to hold that book close to you and enjoy it. Now imagine that book of yours dropped into some water and tossed into a bucket of ice. Slowly over time that book becomes a frozen block of ice. Now when you want to hold or touch that book you are greeted with something hard as ice and colder than enjoyable. As a human I could make physical contact with people and enjoy life in any location that I wanted, but now? I cannot touch people for long periods of time without harming them. I cannot cuddle my children to make them feel better when they are sad because I could really hurt them. It is really hard to embrace a block of ice.”

Nasada makes a face of disgust as she think about not being able to read her favorite book ever again. That would be a complete travesty! It then hit her. "By the gods! That is ultimately cruel!! I feel truly sorry for you, Emilia. I could not imagine how hard this has become for you." Her features bare sincerity and empathy for the other's pain. "Is there a... cure perhaps? Well. I guess.. cure would not be the right word. I mean, there must be some way to perhaps force the Genasi back deep down inside? To once more seal it away?" Her bites became smaller as she continued to eat; Either from becoming full, or rather, the empathy made her hunger diminish.

Emilia offered a small nod to accept the shared feelings by Nasada with the fear of never being able to read her favorite book again. “I’ll tell you a secret. If you do not finish what Kyla’s makes for you then she won’t let you eat here again for awhile.” A wink as she was just joking on the topic, if Nasa didn’t eat all the food she could come back in an hour to eat if she wanted. “I have thought about that before myself, to have the Genasi binded again, but from what I have found, which isn’t much, that would not really be possible. Born into a human body there was time to bind it with some serious magic in a small form before the element could manifest and turn the body cold. Adjusts have been hard, but not impossible. I mean the triplets are doing good…only froze one of them once to the floor and there was nothing long lasting…” A hard pause, “I’ll just have to learn to live as who and what I really am. Live the way I should have lived and just learn to control it all. I’ve gotten better over the year.”

Nasada did not want to lose the ability to dine at the Eatery. It was very delicious! She figured that Emilia was joking by her playful body language, but she didn't want to take any chances. Om nom nom. More food was pushed into her face with haste. "So." she started, once more with mouth full. "A more random inquiry, I guess. What... happens to you in warmer environments? Do you... melt?" Chew, chew. Swallow. More food enters her ebon gated maw. "I mean. I am sure that you do not literally melt, but I'm sure it must be uncomfortable? I'm sorry. Just my brain. Things I just need to know." The woman smiled strong as she pulverized another mouthful.

Emilia nodded slowly, “Melt is not the correct term for it, but I get ill, yes. I own a home out west in Venturil, but the land there is hot and dry and I cannot go there anymore. The heat makes me feel warm which is uncomfortable… Kind of like if you were to go into a sauna… Or well, more like if you run for a long time up a hill and are out of breath and cannot breath, then go into a sauna that is melting hot? I don’t really melt…I avoid the heat needless to say. It is just uncomfortable… Mild heat makes me feel like my skin is going to slosh off, depending on how warm the warm is or if it is warm-wet or warm-dry.”

Nasada seemingly inhaled that meal. The last little bit of potatoes was scraped off of her plate and consumed, her tongue gliding along the edge of the fork to make sure every little bit was gone. There was no way that she was going to be barred from this place! The utensil settled upon the table, her features wincing slightly as she took Emilia's words into consideration. "That really is a curse to live with... I do hope that one day you will find a true peace, living with this, erm, condition." As Kyla collected the empty plate, Nasada offered the woman a polite thank you, gushing over how tasty the meal had been. Apparently this really stuck with the Eatery owner, because she walked back to the kitchen with a fairly large smile. "Venturil?" Nasada asked. "That name sounds so familiar. I think Mik spoke of Venturil before." She chuckled. "Well. Have you thought of selling off the home and moving to a colder region perhaps? Frostmaw, wherever that is, sounds like it would be very cold!" A giggle now as she thought about it. "Though I know nothing of the place. So as far as I know, I could be speaking like an imbecile and the place is ironically a desert."

Emilia smiled, “I have a Greenhouse in Frostmaw, a home in Venturil, a small place in the works in Cenril, a farm and house in Gualon, an idea to put one into Xalious, and then to rebuild the one here that has been lost to the fermin and their destruction here. For now, while it isn’t safe here I am staying…well, not sure where yet, but staying here in Larket. The babies are back at the Gualon home with their father, Xersom.”

Nasada felt that curiosity coming back as she listened to the Genasi speak of her various homes. "Cenril? Gualon?" she asked. Mental notes were quickly made of these names. She would have to look up their names in the geographical book she carried with her. "I sort of stay at the Ranch north of here. Sort of. A witch named Artia saved me from certain death. However, I haven't been there in a few days... I have taken shelter at the Mage Tower so that I can study." She then recalled Artia saying something regarding Fermin, but never did ask the witch what she meant. "Destruction here? Who or what are the Fermin? Should I not be here?"

Emilia gave a small shrug with the questions, “From what I have gathered the fermin are rat like creatures that are spreading a poison…causing people to get sick with blisters and death. I believe it was 12 dead and one missing child at the moment. They may be taking the living now and…killing them? Torturing them? I am not really sure as to the extent of it. You may or not may be safe to stay here if you do not have any skills to defend yourself, but I am guessing that if you swing hard enough those books could knock a cow out.” A small smile, “I will probably stay at the Inn just across the way. If you feel safer with a witch stay there and if you want to stay with someone that can cause an ice-storm and freeze someone to death you can stay over at the Inn with me. Your choice, but I need to get going before there isn’t a room left.”

Nasada slides her chair backward, a high pitched screech made as it glided over the wooden floor. "Nooooo. No. No. No. Nooo way." She visibly shuddered, reaching down to collect her books. "I've done enough with the rats. I don't want to deal with more. Especially not giant murderous rat-like creatures that spread disease." She really hated rats. Then again, a year of eating them will do that to you! "Th-thank you for the offer. But.. I might just stay out in Xalious for now.... I feel a bit safer there." she smiles and curtsies to Emilia. "Thank you for your time, miss Emilia. And for the meal. I very much appreciate it and hopefully some time I may return the favor. I will not keep you any longer... I probably should get some reading done, myself." Slinging the heavy pack over her back, Nasada wiggled her fingers. "Good evening Emilia. Until we meet again." Upon her heel, she turned and made her way out of the Eatery.
