RP:Forging Magics

From HollowWiki

Blut was attempting to forge a new type of magic. Not one of extreme power but one of versatility one that could aid him not work for him. Blut held his staff out as the area around it started to shimmer suddenly a blade of scarlet energy errupted from the staff it looked authentic. The blade looked sharp precice and just as deadly as a regular iron blade but. Blut took a piece of fruit as he aimed the pointed end of the blade at the apple like a spear. But when he plunged the blade it shattered unable to withstand the pressure of the force of the thrust. Blut sighed as he whipped his hand to the side as a illusionary page floated in the air along with many others revealing a picture of what appears to be mana structures.

Rorin only rarely came down to the Mages Tower from Frostmaw these days. He was investigating murders, bizzarely gory ones at that, and he was looking for something he was in desperate need of. He had also came because a certain student here he often held council with. "Blut, my dark and shadowy friend, how goes your latest expirement?" Training partners, coworkers on missions, and the occasional drinkers, he and Blut had had something of a strange partnership built thus far. Rorin came in the armors one would expect of him, with a full face plate in his helm, his limbs and torso covered in the shining metal. "I see you're looking for some reformations," Rorin vageuly perused the floating pages. He had become somewhat familiar with magical theory and the various codes and languages they were written in.

Mavis had stepped in and made a quick glance of her layout before she noticed people were present. With a quick wave of her hand the orb that had followed her had soon disappeared. Offering a smile, she inclined her head towards them.

Blut sighed and looked at the paladin and sighed. "No better than your work on tact." Blut explained quickly as he swiped his staff to the side createing a new blade. He was wearing the tradition uniform of the mage guild which included a cloth robe and the staff. he held a new apple as he brought it down the blade once again. But instead of sliceing the apple it left a dent on it not even the slightest hint of a cut. Blut shook his head as he turned his body to face the paladin "now what brings you here" Blut asked createing another note.

Rorin grinned slightly under the plate of his helm. "Investigations. There have been some bodies found around town. I've also been looking for some materials I need for my own latest project. Plus I knew you were here," he chuckled as he watched the mages latest attempts. "You're not following through. Beginners mistake," he taunted a bit but it was true. If Blut didn't enforce it go straight through then of course it wouldn't.

Mavis looked skeptically at the man wearing the helm. When she heard of dead bodies she thought briefly but shook her head. Instead of thinking any further she called out, "You mentioned dead bodies. Might I know as to what you are referring to?" she asked.

Blut sighed "I'm afraid your mistaken. Following through misshapes the blade. This isn't a spell where you command the mana to change properties. This is raw mana so no incantations nor is follwing though a option." Blut held out the staff as he followed through with the mana however the blade was ridged in shape and was squared more the sleak curves of a regular blade. The edge was there but the shape was not makeing it useless in battle as the shape would make it far too difficult to lock blades. Blut took out a apple swinging the blade as it cut cleanly through "the power is there but would you really trust a blade like this with your life." Blut asked questioningly.

Rorin knew blades, and he knew spells, and he was fairly certain he knew a few spellblades. "Of course not. You're using an axe as a spear, clearly! If you want the raw mana to make a wedge then you have to smooth it out- just like making any blade at the forge. One smooth motion in it's creation." He hummed as he thought he had heard someone speak to him and he turned slightly to look about for anyone. Perhaps that female over there was trying to get his attention?

Mavis looked indifferently towards them. She hadn't thought her question would have been completely disregarded. Without a second thought, her body flicked over and appeared next to them. "Hello." she said, "I am quite curious as to what bodies you are referring to." This time her gaze was fixed on Rorin.

Blut chuckled at the man "yeah that's one way to do it however that comes with a issue in of itself." Blut held out his hand as the spell started to materialise but clearly at a much slower rate then before. "It takes far too long in the heat of battle one cannot rely on a spell that takes too long to cast." When the blade was complete Blut swung it with a satisfying swish as Blut threw the apple into the air cutting it clean in two. However Blut looked at the blade disatisfied as he held the staff out to Rorin spell still active. " Here feel it and you should be able to tell the issue with it." The blade would feel the same weight as a regular iron blade. "As for you" Bluts eyes turned to the woman in a cold glare " didn't your parents ever teach you that it's rude to eavesdrop especially when you but in without introduceing yourself first." Blut explained coldly with a lack of emotion in his voice.

Rorin shook his head. "The blade is solid," he commented as he hefted it. "This is far too weighty for a mage. With the time you're taking for formation, you're making the blade too dense." He looked towards the female as she flitted over, "that's quite all right Blut. The crimes of late are a serious matter," he explained to her, "there have been some bits of gore found around Xalious as of late. Corpses, all brutal murders, spread about town. There are few relations between the bodies, only that some of them are known criminals. I'm Rorin, a pilgrim of Arkhen, and I've gone about investigating these as of late. Is there anything else you would like to know?" He could not divulge every detail of course but he did not mind discussing what information was open to the public.

Mavis without the slightest hit of angry glanced at the mage. She was quite familiar with the attire of the mages guild and even so she paid no heed to him. She looked back at Rorin and cupped her hands. With a bow she said, "A pleasure to meet you. I am Mavis, a envoy for the Tribunal." she said. "I've read of reports of such things but I was not too familiar with the victims." As she said this she knew not to press the matter into the findings of the events that were happening. After all, she was a complete stranger to this people,

"and now you see my problem" Blut explained crossing his arms and looking back at the notes "forge the blade too dense and it gets too heavy. forge it too light and it becomes brittle and fragile I need to get the timeing down." Blut explained holding his chin loseing himself in thought.

Rorin nodded and grunted appreciatively. "The victims seem random, they've little relation to each other, if any, and have few similarities other than the cause of death- extreme trauma. Gored by what looks to be some foul beast. The only other pervading connection is that they seem to be common criminals. The same has begun popping up in all the areas between Frostmaw and Larket. Soon the death count will range by the dozens," he looked thoughtful for a moment and sighed. "I'm afraid that's all I have a mind to say at the moment, lest there be something more specific you'd like to ask." He seemed to be a man simply going through his duties and that this was yet another grisly task. He returned to Blut, "to create a blade in battle you need to focus on just one specific property. For instance the point of a rapier is for thrusting when fencing. In such a way, it is created and sharpened in smooth strokes towards the tip, and is deceptively simple to make. Consider your blades as thus- layer and reduce, one smooth creation, like sharpening a blade that's already there." he made the motion with his hands and believed it to be fairly applicable to most manner of blades in this way.

Mavis listened thoughtfully. What ever lead those poor victims to their deaths was truly unfortunate. After all, life was something to be treasured and experienced. Mavis could only sigh in her heart. It was evident that someone had to be behind the deaths. Targeting criminals would surely prove a less likely hood of been found out. However it had been noticed. Mavis looked thoughtful to Rorin. "Thank you. I hope we can meet again. Perhaps under better comany." Glancing briefly at the mage, "Safe travels." Without waiting for a reply her body turned and left them.

Blut hummed as he turned back to the paladin takeing the staff back. Blut closed his eyes and with a swish a blade construct was made like in the start but it was very skinny and see through. Blut swung his staff again as more mana converged on the blade makeing it tougher and more refined as Blut swung it through the cut apple sliceing cleanly. " Layers huh" Blut murmered as he swung the blade profficently probably alot more profficently than your avarage mage as he pointed it at Rorin "mind helping me test the durability. If I'm to present this to my master I am best to develop it as far as I can" Blut reasoned waiting for a response "and maybe after that you can give me more details on this case after all I can cover more ground than you can." Blut barganed "it's the least I can do after your help."

Rorin had a few ideas what lead those people to their, well, rather deserved fates, if he had to admit it to himself. These people were absolutely terrible. He was more for getting to the bottom of this before any vengeance seeker took it a little too far. Most of the general guard actually didn't care. "Pray it will be in better lights than these," he regarded the woman. "There it is," he congratulated Blut, "weave the layers back and forth as you swing. The more you fight, the harder the blade will become. And you could expell the excess in clashes as you like." He thought over the offer for a moment and gauged how much time he could be spending down here today. "Certainly, why not. You'll find my defenses far denser than your blades however, of that you can be certain." He would follow Blut to whatever training space the two could clear out for the battle.

Blut smiled as he waved his hand "oh no no no just your blade a few controlled swings should do. I just need to test the durability" Blut explained as he chuckled holding up the blade "It's kinda worthless to test a spell without seeing if it would sustain a few swings especially with one that could cost a life such as this one." Blut continued as he pointed the blade onto the ground "This is to be presented to my teacher so to just see that it would be able to sustain itself before we fight would be great." Blut reasoned.

Rorin nodded in agreement. "You'll have to be careful of your output with this spell, I'm sure you already know. Exploding chunks of raw mana aren't exactly healthy for anyone," he drew his bastard sword and readied it much as any fencer would do in order to prepare for the clashes. Rorin's half elven frame always allowed for such variety in his styles there was little doubt he could keep up.

Blut bent his knees and kept his right hand infront of him whilst holding the staff behind him with his left. "Ready or not here I come" Blut claimed as he ran forward as he swung his blade in a rapid fashion swinging multiple times in a second about 2 - 3 times a second to test his output and how many swings the blade could take before breaking.

Rorin was one of the odd left handed few in this world as well. He was indeed ready as he clashed with Blut and countered every swipe. He was aiming specifically to parry and push back. Rorin really put the pressure on Blut as his well trained fencing style dated back to the Elven hero Stryker who's legendary artes had been passed down through the ages. There would be clangs and flashes as the edge of the steel collided with the layers of magic in his oppponents blade.

Blut watched the blade perform as he constantly swung as he swung his blade in a arc switching it to his right hand. Blut swung the blade in a more reckless manner adding far more force to the blade in a manner designed to smash through and overwelm. Whilst Blut was ambidextrous he could definintly say his right hand was his dominant hand replaceing the worn chips of the blade with more mana. Blut swung with savage intent confident that the elf could take the punishment.

Rorin pulled back as Blut went on the offensive. It was true that they both had stamina to spare and perhaps even to match as Rorin skillfully parried each strike off to the side. It became a game of how much mana he could get Blut to add to it, make it heavier, get him to slip up. Rorin's precision was at top notch as he matched and flung the center of weight on Blut's staff each time until the opponent went for a powerful strike. Rorin had been watching each crack carefully, counting every layer, watching as the mana seeped and reformed. He had found both Blut's point of focus and what he believed to be a gap in the threads of magic holding it together. As Rorin stepped to the side he turned his sword and pivoted the point in a strike that would not only counter Blut's but was aimed at totally shattering the construct based on where and how often it had needed to be reformed. Rorin was counting on it to act like a reforged blade in that it would always have a weakness somwhere no matter how many times it was worked.

Blut jumped back a couple of steps so that rorin wouldn't persue. He was now confident in his blades ablitlies as he smirked as he raised his hand. "That will be enough. Granted this thing doesn't match up to a real blade in combat it is at the very least presentable. Thank you." Blut explained as he turned back to his notes createing a new page from his illusionary prowess "Granted it needs improvment like all others but this is enough to show me that I'm going in the right direction thank you." Blut explained as the blade dissipated and the pages all formed into a book the man turned to the paladin "Now how about you tell me about that case your working on I might be able to help." Blut enquired as the book flew right into his hand.

Rorin had been nearly certain he could shatter the blade in that strike. "I'm certain you will make vast improvements in due time, Blut," there was an extraordinary amount of potential in the man that had likely resulted from years of work in his field. There was no doubt he would have vanishing blades formed in short order. "Yes, it's much as I said earlier. Grisly murders found about town. Some its one a week, others its three a night. For now it is rare. I believe it is building up to something greater," he stowed his weapons and worked over the details in his head. "The bodys are found mauled, as if by a wild animal. Most are petty or well known criminals, local gangs. It's been happening in Xalious, Frostmaw, Larket, and even Kelay. There are less than thirty deaths total as it stands and they are somewhat spread about. I'm not sure if I know much more than that," he wasn't the lead investigator on the case and he felt terrible for the man who was. Surely nothing good could come of it.

Blut sighed as he thought about the cause and the how. "Did the murders occur at night and how well known were these criminals." People like this are normally the vigalanty type people who belive the law can't help them so they take it into their own hands. It must be near nature or isolated areas if there weren't any witnesses. If there was less then thirty then it means that he's a new one. Most killers space out their kills makeing it harder to track them unless they were really confident. "There are alot of details that could point to the killers base of operations. Perhaps giveing me a field report would be useful such as a autopsy of each of the victims." Blut explained terms he learns when he posed to be a detective of larket.

Rorin thought about it for a moment. "Yes, reports do place the murders at night, as no one has given us a visual description of the beast committing the crimes that we can rely on. The criminals are a mixed bag. Murderers, mostly, but none with connecting crimes. Muggers, some. Others are thieves who got a little more than what they deserved." He shook his head. "No normal person could have done these. These people are being ripped in half- some of the bodys have organs missing like... well, like they were eaten. Most of the kills seem to be sort of hit and run. Some happen in the middle of the street- and the carnage is so fast the citizens are barely able to call for help before it's over. Still, no solid reports on the beasts appearance. No one's even sure how it knows their criminals! We're still working on the details, but I'm fairly sure that's all I know for now." It was a pretty messed up scene and some of the guards were a little traumatized by the sights. It wasn't every day a man got to see another ripped in half from shoulder to hip and his chest eaten hollow. Some of these boys would be scarred for life.

Blut shook his head as he went through countless possibilites in his head about how these could be missing. "Actually I think it was a normal person either a lycan or a dragon. They are both powerful enough to rip us limb from limb however lycans can only obtain this transformation at night. Also most are unable to stave off their instincts so these attacks are most likely instinct. It explains the rabid attacks and how they track their prey. They use a blood cent." Blut deduced trying to come up with a reason for his these odd attacks. Blut pulled out a relic which looked to be like a pocket watch as it ticked steadily. Blut put it back into his pocket as he started to head towards the dormentry "well I must be off now I should really write down these notes illusions don't last forever you see. Good luck with your hunt and try Cenril that's where all the big game is at." Blut hinted with a dark chuckle as he walked.

Rorin agreed it could easily be a Lycan, draconian, dragon- however tracking their prey was out of the question. "There are few ways to track down unknown criminals, or even well known criminals, wiithout having some sort of way to identify them. I doubt there are many lycans or drakes on the investigation or even in the town guards. Rorin waves to Blut as he intends to depart as well. Rorin thinks that if the creature heads to Cenril maybe it'll stay there for a while. That would be some good news at least.
