RP:Can't Say Goodbye to Yesterday

From HollowWiki

Summary: Lionel still lived. The promise of a brighter future lay ahead of him, but before he could even try to greet it, he needed to acknowledge the family he may have lost through darkest night.

In Solitude

Khitti,

I’m not writing this to excuse my disappearance. All I will say is that I did everything in my power to return to you. I will not ask for your forgiveness. Only that you read the remainder of this letter.

Kahran is dead. His armies remain. Without him, however, they will be in turmoil for enough time that a stronger Lithrydel can stand ready for their next assault. This war is, in essence, over. I am gladdened by this, of course, but it breaks my heart the people that we lost along the way. So many names, so many faces. The one that stings most of all is you. Yes, I understand that you lost me, despite your pleas that I stay by your side. By proxy, I have lost you, and that will never stop hurting. You were my sister. You are my sister. Always, you shall be my sister. I hate that I found family and disappointed it. I hate that I let you down. Though in truth, I do not hate myself for it. I understand why it happened. It doesn’t make the loss any easier, but I am more at peace with myself now than I have ever been before. I’m almost happy.

Your rank in the Warrior’s Guild will permanently be held in your honor. The lessons that you taught me will never fade away. I will strive to be the best man that I can be. Knowing that you and yours are safer now, even if by only a little bit, still gives me solace. Give my regards to Brand and Dominic if you’d like. I will understand if you’d prefer not to. Know that news of your wedding has given me great joy.

And know that I will always watch over you, even if from afar. If ever you seek a closer watch, say the word and I shall come.

Your brother,

Lionel

Farewell

Lionel put down his pen and sighed into his open palms. Only once his tears had dried upon his fingers did he seal the letter and deliver it to Sundance, last of the Catalians of his old entourage. There upon Cenril’s docks, in the hour of the wolf, the prince said goodbye to yesterday.
