RP:Been Awhile

Synopsis: Meri and Nadine have a quick chat after several months of having not seen one another. A lot has changed.

Cenril Town Square

Nadine bursts out of the Whaler’s Bar, stumbling a step or two and laughing. There’s no doubt the woman is drunk, even as she reaches into her pocket for her cigarette pouch. Opening it, she produces one and a match to light it with. Doing just that, the woman waves the match out and puffs on her smoke before sweeping her emerald gaze over the road. Lifting her free hand, she draws the cowl of her cloak over ebon ringlets and steps forward without looking. The result is disastrous. Nadine trips over her own feet and with a thud, she falls face first on the road.

It has been a long time since Meri has actually set foot in the Whaler's Bar. Not since maybe the first time she met Rinn? Which would have been sometime last year, needless to say it has been a long time. But that does not mean that Meri does not pass by the establishment on a semi-regular basis. Which is exactly she is doing today, walking right by the Whaler, right as Nadine steps out of the establishment only to trip over her own feet. At first glance it might seem like she is going to go face first into the road, but damn! A pregnant woman just walked right in front of her, and there probably is not much Nadine can do to stop herself from falling. This has the potential to turn into an outright disaster. Except that Meri is a a quick thinking psion who has able to put her telekinetic abilities to good use. Rather than colliding with the preggo or the dirty Cenril streets, Nadine just stops...mid-fall. Hanging there suspended in mid-air. Well, this is the likely outcome. Unless Nadine has some sort of way to negate Meri's psionic abilities. If successful, Meri is not quick to right her to her feet. She is going to let Nadine hang there a few moments so that she can suffer through the look that Meri is giving her right now. It's a disapproving look, accompanied with an arch brow. Meri's just practicing her 'you're being bad' mom look. Straighten up Nadine.

In that moment, everything comes to a screeching halt for the drunken woman. Her thoughts, her movements, even time itself—or so it seemed in her mind. It’s Meri’s look that does it more so than the fact she’s not moving. She’s seen it plenty of time in her youth, and this pregnant woman has definitely mastered it. “Uhm,” she slurs, balanced so precariously in midair. “This is good. Bad, but good. I mean. Whatever you’re doing, it’s great. What I’m doing, not so much.” A nervous chuckle falls from her painted lips as her eyes sweep around once more, taking in the passersby to make sure they’re not watching her. “This is extremely awkward. Yep.” But hey, at least the woman is clean this time, right? In fact, she’s a sure sight better than she was the last time they’d crossed paths.

Meri smirks. It's with a thought that Nadine is righted back to a standing position, keeping herself there is from here on out on Nadine and she'll be able to 'feel' the psionic hold on her being released. "You're welcome, I am sure you would not want to have your pretty face all bruised and scraped up because you took a spill." Meri does not focus on what might have happened if Nadine crashed into her. Honestly probably nothing too serious, Meri would probably have just ended up with a bruised butt. "I am not your mother so I am not going to sit here and lecture you on the dangers of being as drunk as you are in the public streets of Cenril." Nadine likely knew the dangers well, shoot at times both she and Meri were most certainly part of that 'problem' -- they both knew this. Still. That does not mean Meri wants to see something happen to Nadine. "It has certainly been awhile since I have ran into you. What have you been doing?"

Nadine has a rather unique experience, being righted like that. It’s hard to explain, but to her it’s almost out of body. When the hold releases and control returns to Nadine’s central nervous system, there’s a visible look of relief on her face. “Thank you,” she says, rather sheepishly. She lifts a hand to scratch at the back of her head through the cloak. As she does this, her gaze roams Meri’s form, taking in her pregnancy. “I… uhh…. yeah,” she begins. “I’ve been roamin’ around. Kinda took a long walk and got lost for…. well, awhile. It was fun. Just got back, actually. What about you? You weren’t… Before?” Her inflection betrays a query, as if the lycan isn’t quite sure she remembers correctly.

Meri just smirks. Why this telekinetic ability of hers managed to unnerve some so much was always such a wonder to her, given how full of magic this land is. She has never thought her ability any more formidable than talented mage. But she does not ask, she accepts the relief on Nadine's face and leaves it at that. The woman lifts a brow again, this time not out of disapproval and disappointment but confusion. She wasn't....? What? A few things have transpired since Meri last saw Nadine. The most obvious was that she was pregnant. It was not a full nine-month belly, but there was definitely a bump. But last time Meri saw Nadine, she was also not a werewolf. The two lycan ladies probably knew each other for what they were. Meri takes the most obvious route, inquiring for further explanation by pointing to the belly, "Was I pregnant last you saw me? Probably not. This probably happened....Maybe two or three months ago?" Except Meri looked further along than that, despite the time frame given by the blonde. Much like the wolf that bite her, Alvina, Meri seemed to be speeding through her pregnancy.

Nadine gawks. It’s the best way to describe the woman’s shift in expression as she crosses her arms over her torso. Her head cants to the side, blinking a time or two as she detects something else different about the woman. “More than that,” she says, a little more seriously this time. “You are one of my kind, now, too. Have I been gone that long?” Another shift in her expression heralds guilt and sadness. Her thoughts are of Rinn and Tiber. She blinks and refocuses on Meri. “I didn’t even realize. I guess that wasn’t very cool of me to introduce myself and stuff and then not bother coming ‘round again.”

Meri definitely had this nagging feeling that perhaps Nadine was like it -- it was just harder for the younger lycan to pinpoint these feelings. Afterall, she is not actually getting advice from the gal who bit her. She does not even know who did it, it is just a mystery. The lycan has been stuck figuring all changes she'll be experiencing on her own, and it has been daunting to say the least. There is a flash of realization at this confirmation which is followed by suspicion. The one detail that she does know about whomever bit her as that it is female. Yet Nadine has been explaining she has been out of the area, so it could not possibly be Nadine that bit her, hm? Meri is not entirely sure, but she is fairly confident. She occasionally gets this feeling when she is close to whomever bit her, it is not the same with Nadine. "Yeah." Meri agrees. "It's not really the best way to encourage someone to further...business relations." Meri points to the belly again. "Not that I can get too wild for the time being." Meri shrugs before shifting the subject. "What color is your wolf?"

Nadine shifts her weight to one foot, her gaze lowering between them to settle on the road. “No, it really isn’t. That’s entirely my bad. I’d buy you a drink, but…” A dip of her head toward the woman’s belly follows. “I s’pose I’ll get you a few gifts for the babe, instead.” Where those gifts will come from, she doesn’t say. Her painted lips curve upward into a grin. She likes babies. Probably all that time spent at the orphanage. Meri’s question brings her gaze back up. “Black. Yours?”

Meri blinks at the thought of getting baby gifts. Khitti and Meri had discussed a potential baby shower, but Meri had joked that there would probably be no one to invite to it outside of Khitti herself. Yet here Nadine was, talking about baby gifts. Meri appreciates it and smiles regardless, "Well Cal and I will be able to get all of the large stuff. So if you would like to get something, I won't tell you no...But it keep it small." Meri nods, relieved to hear Nadine's wolf is black. "Also black. Listen, if you ever hear anything about a white wolf, let me know, yeah? I've got to be going though. A couple more errands to run before I head home to Cal. Don't be a stranger, hm?" With a wave, Meri moves along her way.
