The Gates of Cenril

The massive gates of Cenril, once wide and inviting, now stand firmly closed due to wartimes. Flanked on either side by high, fortified turrets, the gates remain sealed, and a heavy portcullis has been lowered to provide maximum security. The field before this gate is barren, all greenery trimmed or burned back to provide the perfect killing ground for the archers patrolling the walls. Before these closed gates is a bustling scene, with heavy traffic as guards diligently check travel papers, ensuring that entry to the city is carefully regulated..


Round One

Arlyeons' advance progresses. For hours now, the rogue has gradually been encroaching upon Cenrilian territory- her footsteps inaudible, her very presence beneath notice. And yet, it was all worth it, because before her, Cenrils' great gates loom. Even as she creeps forward yet another pace, not a single guard had deigned to scrutinize her location- despite how proximal she was to the city road. In fact, the closest thing to discovery that had occurred, had come at the expense of an inquisitive child- a fleeting bit of curiosity that had been directed her way, accompanied by a few indelicate pokes of a stick that had saw her retreating back into her hiding place. And yet, that moment had long past- having outlasted the kids petulant jostling of her position, until his interest had eventually waned. Something which had enabled her to resume her journey. And now? Victory was so close she could taste it. Between that awareness, and her absolute confidence in her clever ploy, she finally emerges from the bushes. Though, perhaps, 'emerges' provides more theatrical weight to the events than the factual telling- because though Ina's may have subconsciously designated her disguise as that of a Trickster Magic Ninja Turtle - the only part that's actually accurate is the turtle part. Ina, however ponderously, waddles forward towards the bridge, seemingly intent on outracing the snail which journeys besides her.

Daisy has no agenda to speak of at the moment. Wars aren't of any concern to her at all. She doesn't really care who is mad at who for what, though it usually does bring some work her way. Today is not for work though! Today is for being lazy and shopping and probably snacks. Every day is for snacks. Round kittens are the roundest and we all know she is the best of shapes. So it has been mentioned multiple times before. This time is no different! And it seems a snack has just crawled out of the bushes right there in the middle of the road. But is today for soup snacks? Maybe pizza snacks. The turtle is crawling at its named pace, but that doesn't mean you can catch it, girl. Try if you want though! And off she goes, totting up behind the creature.

Round Two

Daisy’s Roll: 18 (Total: 34)

Arlyeon action : sees a shadow once more loom behind her, and for a brief, harrowing second- she wonders if that intrusive child had returned, perhaps with some friends, to see if he could crack open her shell. Like before, her limbs retract into her mobile hiding spot, and she waits for a number of moments- for the sound of trouble, of mischievous later, the scrape of stick or stone. But the only sound that reaches Ina, and echoes off the hollow of her shell, is a curious cadence of footstep. There's a cheeriness there that pervades even the footfalls, which seems different than the sort of determined direction that a youth with a chip on their shoulder might have. And so, with some reservations, Turtle-Ina's head pokes out of her shell, before turning in the direction of, "...." Huh. What are the odds. Her little turtle mouth opens, closes, opens again- and she tilts her head off to the side. Some small part of her almost considers asking for help, too. But it was far too late. The odds that they might be in earshot of an especially astute guard, or perhaps some subtle spell meant to detect noise was far too high- and so, Ina puts every bit of effort into picking up her pace, and waddling away before she can be hefted up. Plus, The snail had a slight lead on her now, after all.

Daisy gets closer and closer to that turtle, recipes listing as she counts them on her fingers. Gumbo. Tacos. Chocolate. Are chocolate turtles made from real turtles? No no. That is caramel. Carmel. Car-oh! Oh the little turtle has gone into the shell and now all hunger has gone. The little face with the little mouth and the little head makes Daisy audibly squee with happy. You can't possibly eat this turtle now! Absolutely not! What is it even doing out here with any bit of water oh so far away. This sweet cutie baby needs help! So now instead of a chef's hat, Daisy dons a cape. She will get you back to the water, little turtle!

Round Three

Daisy’s Roll: 9 (Total: 43)

Arlyeon feels herself get scooped up, and can't help but feel a very weird sense of panic possess her, on absolutely every level of the word. In one fell swoop, she can feel the progress she'd made over the last few minutes evaporate in one fell footfall, and there's almost nothing she can do about it, save for make increasingly plaintive turtle squawks, and wriggle a bit harder. Desperately, one stubby limb wiggles in the air, like a drowning man looking for a life rope. But no help is coming- because Daisy *is* the help. Really, the only thing that might be able to save TurtlIna (no relation to Thumb), is the simple fact that she hadn't borne her bangle today- and thus would be passively pilfering luck from Daisy the more the two remain in contact. But, would it be enough? Would Ina be able to reverse her fortunes and draw nearer to the Runes? Or would she be smothered beneath sparkles- and lose the race not only to riches, but, also that snail. Which is really sad. Find out next round.

Daisy is oh so careful and gentle and delicate as she cradles the helpless creature to her chest. A single digit pets down the turtle's back while they head further down the road, passing that lame snail leaving boogers on the road. That'll show you, snail! Who brought up a snail? Petting fingers scratch in yellow hair a moment. Yeah I don't know either. I do know that little amphibihand wants to high five you! Do it. Doooo it! With a grin, Daisy's little finger gives the waving limb a little five. One. Six? Do you add the digits? How many digits do turtles have? She lifts turtleIna up so they are nose to nose and smiles. "Imma keep you safe."

Round Four - Tie

Arlyeon is screwed. She has, at this point, resigned herself to this fact. Except, that Daisys actually heading in the right direction. She sweeps by the snail leaving them in the dust. Daisys mistaken high-five is actually genuinely met with an approving 'squek' from the turtle. That said, Ina is starting to feel a bit guilty about the whole prolonged thing, so she abruptly wiggles (and discreetly shapeshifts her size to be slightly smaller), causing her to slide out of Daisys grasp, and just weirdly cling to the front of her clothes, instead. There, no more hexing. And as far as accessories go, Ina is weirdly light for a turtle. "..." Oh. Right. She's supposed to be doing spying- and here she is, getting distracted. While it's apt only to be for a few moments, TurtlIna does her best to take in the sights of some of the runes- a pair in particular seeming a bit easier to scrutinize, so that she can commit them to mind, and more specifically, so she can commit their form to the pattern of her shells underside. Sneaky, Sneaky.
