Physiology

With a very fast metabolism, these dragons need to hunt often, but don't need to eat much with each meal. They can eat almost anything, even the trees themselves if times are tough. While their scales retain the strength of any dragon, they can be crushed with excessive force. Most magic attacks have a reduced effect on these small dragons but they can still be overwhelmed by enough raw power. Dispite their natural aversion to fire, there is no personal danger as a natural fire does nothing more then warm their scales, and can sometimes induce a calm sleepy state. They are very agile, although they can not fly very fast. These dragons reach physical maturity at 10 years of age. After reaching Maturity they are the exact size they will be for the rest of their life. The extremes of the size range are from the size of a large hummingbird, up to that of a small falcon. Their telepathic projection form of communication is developed in the late teen years (5-7 years old).

Psychology

As young, these dragons are playful, inquisitive and gentle. Able to hunt for themselves after just a couple of months of life, they reach emotional maturity quickly within the first year of life. They do however retain their playfullness untill their death. Naturally very high in spirits, and friendly toward peaceful races. Extremely wary of fire as their homes are easily burned.

Wooded Dragon Society

While these dragons are friendly enough, they spend most of their time on their own and lead very solitary lives. The exception to this rule comes when they find a mate. There is no standard on mating for life, though some do. While mated they do spend their time in close proximity to each other. Young wooded dragons are raised with their parents anywhere from the first 3-5 years of their life, and the things they learn from their parents are crucial, as they have no form of verbal communication till near maturity, usually after they head off on their own. In general they have no formal society or hierachy in their relations or interactions with each other.

Wooded Dragon Religion

The only semblance of a religion among these dragons is their care of natural things. Not an actual religion, but more of a reverence for nature and the growth of the world.

Wooded Dragon History

Wooded dragons have a common ancestor with all other dragons, but through generations of living in a forest saturated with wild magic they have decreased in size to that of a small bird and are unable to shape shift like some of their cousins. With a lifespan of around 100 years, the most common reason for death is intervention from other races. While they are not immune to poisons or disease, they rarely die from such wounds.

They are highly magical and highly intelligent creatures who live among the trees, and are colored in a way to seamlessly blend in with most wooden backgrounds. Though it is not a magical effect they seem to disappear. Their wings are very nondescript while not being used, but when open and in use they have an almost iridescent sheen to them..

Wooded Dragons have developed a way of telepathic projection used for communication. An equivalent of a psychic voice, to project thoughts as one would speak. This is sometimes confused with mind reading or other telepathing misconceptions. They don't use anything like a typical language with each other, so they are seen as less intellegent by those who manage to find a wooded dragon. While rarely seen they have been known to travel through any wooded parts of the world. They are usually only interested in the workings of nature often preferring to let the rest of the world pass by as long as their trees are left in peace. There are members of this race who are more interested in the rest of the world and many times these individuals never meet another of their race again as their journeys lead them away from the trees.
