A Detailed Timeline
Circa January 30th 2018.
2018 | Summary |
---|---|
An encounter with an enormous bear in Frostmaw's wilderness left Encara's right arm violently mauled and her tiny drider companion half-crushed, but she was luckily able to find the aid of Zahrani, a kind Paladin of Cyris and healer, who saved Khova's life and healed the drow's injury.

Attended a secret meeting for witches and witch sympathisers in Cenril, and offered her aid in seeking out the mysterious crystal skulls needed to resurrect the Red Witch, Valrae, before Cenril's barrier falls apart.

Dropped in on a summoning ceremony of Aramoth that went wrong... or right?

Met a very naked giantess while tracking the aforementioned monstrous bear. As it turned out, Oline was after the very same creature - when the beast showed itself, the unlikely duo took it on with sheer strength and slippery dexterity, but were ultimately forced to flee after Oline received a powerful blow to the head and Encara's enchanted arrows seemed to do little damage. They retreated to the City of War and Eleenin's clinic, where they came across Meilani, recovering from her recent Titans of Winter match.

Found herself at this year's Valentines Ball for the free food but chose, against all reason, to participate in the games hosted by the witch Lanara, also the event organiser. She actually got a dance out of it! Was upset the 'love shank' wasn't a real thing, however.

Encountered Oline again in the mountains, where the giantess informed her of the fall of Schezerade to Kahran's forces.

Took to the wilds of Frostmaw once more in search of the great bear, only to run across Orikahn, a fellow hunter. After a tense confrontation, the two followed a strange trail through the forest together and were beset upon by a pack of ice trolls. Having sustained injuries and with night already upon them, Orikahn led Encara to the warmth and safety of his hunting lodge, where Aira learned of their adventure.

A still healing Encara attempted, and failed, to gain entry to Fort Frostmaw and secure an audience with its Queen to discuss the monster bear attacking the City of War's citizens. As she argued with the guards at the gate, Krice caught her attention - similarly, the drow's troubles intrigued and concerned the warrior enough for him to ask for more information. The silver-haired, red-eyed, stoic pair trekked to the outskirts of the forest and discussed the monster consuming Encara's thoughts of late.

After recovering from their encounter with the ice trolls, Orikahn and Encara set out to continue their hunt, accompanied by the vixen Aira. They retraced their steps, eventually coming upon a site of wanton destruction: a logger's camp in ruins and the woodsmen slaughtered in a gory bloodbath. On his dying breath, Aslfur, a victim of the attack and the one who posted the bounty for the bear, mentioned the name of a solitary hunter to Encara... and the trio discovered bear prints leading towards his isolated cabin.

The grumpy hunter trio met Tovald, a strange and slightly unhinged giant. A large emerald green skull painted upon one wall kept watch over the dishevelled homestead and its occupant with eyes of eerie, dark mirrors. A member of an isolated coven, Isobel surveyed the scene from afar through these scrying mirrors and decided not to risk letting Encara, Orikahn, and Aira leave the cabin alive, especially when it was revealed that Tovald may have known more than the witches ever realised. Dark magic was cast as the witch forced Tovald to undergo his transformation into the enormous, aggressive bear once more. Ultimately, the cabin was left in ruins, Isobel was blinded, and the werebear was commanded to flee - Encara snatched one of the mirrors while Orikahn shattered the other and Aira was able to secure a small pouch from beneath Tovald's bed that gave off an aura of malicious magic.

Joined Meri and the witch sisters Lanara and Talyara on the hunt for the rose quartz skull. The unlikely group of women found themselves in Enchantment, facing down a rather angry dragon guarding the very artefact they were seeking in the castle moat, but managed to safely retrieve the skull and dispatch the dragon in the process. When Encara offered to take them to safety, Lanara unintentionally used the skulls power and received a glimpse into the drow's mind, learning that her intentions were pure.

While ranging in the wild mountains north of Venturil, Encara came across a group of wyverns caught by Kahran's wraiths in a fell trap of cruel possessive magic. Warning a nearby Alliance camp, she attempted to save the wyverns with the aid of Lionel, two of his soldiers, and the unlikely assistance of Ymir, a great white wyvern possessing the power of dragon's breath and true speech. Although they emerged victorious, the battle ended in a terrible wound for Encara, but also earned the Alliance several new allies and paved the foundations for a strong bond between the drow and the Hero of Hellfire.

Having been brought back to Frostmaw to recover, Encara visited Lionel in the Steward's quarters and in doing so learned of the imminent expedition to the Shadow Plane, a realm with so many unanswered questions for the drow. Though she demanded to be made part of the mission, Lionel refused on account of her injuries. Distraught, she revealed her mysterious connection to the Shadow Plane: the dark magics swirling like scars over her arm. The mark prompted Lionel to promise he'd make it back home alive so that one day they would journey to the hostile realm to find answers - while it was hardly the result Encara had hoped for, she took it, holding the Catalian rigidly to his word and watching his departure with a growing sense of concern.

Before the stars burned beyond the veil, a red dawn broke across the City of War. Encara, convinced to remain behind on account of her injuries and plagued by tangled thoughts and doubts as a result, kept a vigil from atop Fort Frostmaw's outer wall while Alliance soldiers prepared for a dangerous expedition to the Shadow Plane. Drawn to the drow simply by curiosity or perhaps a sense of kinship, Valrae's ghost joined her - a stressed Encara tried to express her fears to the spirit and Valrae learned they're also connected by their feelings for Lionel. As the sun rose and Valrae began to fade, she promised one last thing before vanishing: 'he'll keep his word.'

In the hours that followed the Alliance's massive undertaking in the Shadow Plane, Encara was alone with difficult thoughts. Krice, injured but ever the stubbornly self-sufficient warrior, spoke curtly with the drunk drow as she fretted over Lionel's unknown fate. Drink responsibly!

Received a message from Talyara informing her that the labradorite skull had been located somewhere in Larket. Despite still being restricted to the use of one arm, Encara, worried for the safety of the witches, flew with haste to the city and infiltrated the Academy of Magic under the cover of night. After a scuffle with a couple of researchers, she was cast through a portal along with the skull, her drider Khova, and the rest of the ragtag band. They found themselves in the Shadow Plane, plunging into a frigid lake filled with the spirits of mournful dead and the monstrous culprit in an effort to retrieve the skull before it was lost forever to the watery depths. Against fearful odds and near-death experiences, the artefact was secured.

Encara met Emilia and Thamalys, a strange pair with ties to the Alliance. The atmosphere was a few degrees colder than the ice genasi as Encara and Thamalys, both very prideful creatures, stared one another down and exchanged terse words (also insults), but Encara made her loyalty to Lionel perfectly clear.

With all crystal skulls recovered successfully, the witches went ahead with their ritual as planned, regardless of political interference, and the witch who burned at the stake returned in blazing fire. While it was undoubtedly a victory, Encara thought she tasted something akin to loss in the ashes.

A day off and a casual chat over lunch shifted quickly back to business upon Encara's arrival at Khitti's bakery - seeking answers on the appearance of 'drow' in the Shadow Plane, the ranger was directed to Lionel's sister who had more knowledge on the realm. The trip also turned out to be an unexpected reunion with Meri and while Encara possibly left with more questions than before, she didn't leave with a heavy heart.

Encara came to Lionel's office with a letter and an excuse to see him but found his sister at work in his stead. With the mission to Aedrebyrg looming, Encara invited Khitti to join her on a hunt beforehand in northern Venturil, where her scouts had picked up signs of wraith activity in the vicinity of the Dead Forest. While plenty of business talk was shared, the two also ended up having a bit of a heart-to-heart.

After Encara and Khitti met up with Meri in Craughmoyle, the three continued westward into Venturil's dusty wilderness, where Val'thyrion scouts Thom and Kren were waiting. Tasked with tracking down remaining wraiths in the area, the duo took the women first to a point of interest: a hallowed grove atop a misty barrow where all the priests lay dead. Khitti surmised the scene may well be a trap intended to lure more victims to the wraiths - when Encara found a small charm from her bracelet left lying on the altar, she couldn't help but feel Khitti was at least half right. At risk of being cornered, the group fled north into the Dead Forest, reaching the bubbling tar pits where the wraiths appeared to gather frequently. There, things escalated and while Khitti, Meri, and her scouts engaged the others, Encara confronted one of the wraiths, who caught her by her scarred wrist and gave an ominous warning.

Khitti, Meri, Zahrani, and Encara — as well as members of the Paladin and Warrior's Guilds, and Val'thyrion scouts Thom and Kren — set out to Aedrebyrg on a mission to investigate and potentially save citizens and victims of the rumoured blood plague spreading from Chartsend's nameless isle. It was here that Encara got her first glimpse of a greydusk, but there was no time to ask questions - the corrupted cultists attacked, forcing Khitti to drink their tainted blood and the others to defend themselves lest they suffer the same fate. With nothing remaining to save and the flames rising, Aedrebyrg was left to burn.

Encara didn't lug this severed arm all the way back from Venturil for nothing. Having come up with a good use for it — and a way to spite every other wraith at the same time — she brought her strange burden to Frostmaw Towers in search of a blacksmith, seeking someone who could craft new bow limbs from the malevolent bone and weave a powerful enchantment into the weapon. Alvina, though plagued by numerous doubts and fears, had returned to her place of work for the first time in many months and agreed to take on the challenging job for the drow. In return, Encara offered the blacksmith her own skills before leaving her to consider what was on the table.

Khitti and Encara shared another quiet moment in the drow's secluded quarters, where secrets of the past were divulged, present fears about the plague spreading through Venturil given voice, and Encara finally revealed her scarred hand and the desperate quest to track down a cure. Khitti also asked an important question of her - would Encara join the Paladins Guild as its Delishan representative? While the ranger expressed doubts over whether or not she was personally suited to the position, she promised to take some time to think about it.

Khitti and Encara met with Lionel and Valrae in the heart of Venturil to discuss the current state of the region. Khitti's new aide-de-camp, Camina, recounted what she found during her scouts of the other byrgs, and Khitti revealed she had formed a mind-link with their enemy. Meanwhile, Encara struggled to reign in her emotions, none of which were good, and expressed her frustrations over Lionel's recent absence.
