History

Kumori grew up with his family in Jangal, a wilderness of rainforest and jungle well outside of Hollow. One of the traditions of this small continent was to appoint a shaman council once every generation, a group of male and female denizens who had reached their full potential in martial combat and in their study of the living world. The young panther, who had trained and studied under his father Genryou Getsuga, was considered a good candidate for his generation's council because of his affinity with life, his spiritual leadership, and his fighting skill.

One of the requirements of those who are chosen as possible shamans is to venture outside of their jungle and learn what they can of the rest of the world while strengthening their own abilities. Shortly before Kumori came of age, his elder cousin Durza, of the Gaiden forest clan, had come from the land of Hollow to live among his family. In those days, the young panther monk eagerly listened to many incredible tales and learned of many interesting people in this distant land. After his 18th birthday, Kumorohyou made the decision to make his Pilgrimage, as it was called, into the land that Durza came from, so that he could gain the experience he needed to help lead his clan.

Having completed his Pilgrimage, the new shaman had one final test of Spirit to undergo: the Rite of Yamaloka, better known as the Hellrite. One of the ancient temples that dotted the wilderness possessed a semi-permanent Hell's Gate. Each initiate into the Shaman Council enters the Hell plane, on their terms, to strengthen and season their Spiritual abilities. For three days, Kumori chased, and was chased by, all manner of demons and ill Spirits, before finding his way out again. He bears the scars of that ordeal upon his very Soul.

The Jangal Wilderness

While most Jangalan's gather food through foraging and hunting, they are anything but primitive. The subcontinent teems with a unique biodiversity, one that generates a massive arcane/Spiritual pressure within its borders. Those who are born here, or who venture in from the outside, must have exceptional strength of magic or Spirit, lest they have their Minds crushed as if they were at the bottom of the ocean. One thing that Jangal lacks is a source of raw synthetic materials, like gold and iron. This shortage, and consequently their shortcomings in metallurgy and civil engineering, are offset by their advances in medicine and biotechnology (for lack of a better term).

Pilgrimage

The concept of the Pilgrimage is used to overcome several limitations and achieve a number of goals, besides the clear objective of gaining experience for the individual. The denizens of Jangal, due to their relative isolation from the rest of the world, make it a habit of keeping an ear open for current events, as well as monitoring the socio-technological evolution of whatever civilizations they come in contact with. While these strange felines specialize in biotechnology that had been reverse-engineered from those that came before them, they are also curious about how other societies and races overcome their own limitations through technological advancement, and thus how their respective cultures are influenced.

"Cannot catch food? Invent bow. Cannot carry load? Invent wheel. Cannot see stars? Invent telescope. Limitations are overcome by technological advancement, and advancement causes a culture to mature. Without limitations, a culture is like a stagnant beast." -Kumori

The Pilgrimage also gives them the opportunity to find mates outside of Jangal (another response to their isolation). If the Jangal felines are cut off from the rest of the world, then genetic recessives and disorders would begin to manifest in new generations due to in-breeding.

Current Events

  • Is currently in the Fold, using his scientific approach in his studies to help preserve the balance of Hollow in light of recent.
  • Conducting research on how to efficiently utilize residual spirit particles to better the lives of his clan, and the people of Hollow as a whole.
  • Mildly displeased with Ymheshphilun's death, due to biological ramifications regarding the centipede's physiology. Currently working to treat any of the creature's victims for potential infection.
  • Also found a helmet in his homeland that resembles an ancient design used by Elven Templars. Upon further examination, Kumori's family happened upon the remains of an old Templar outpost within the jungle. Felines and other sentients of Jangal are cooperating in the excavation.

OOC

  • The pic I uploaded is one that I edited.
  • Currently a senior biomedical engineering major, which is one of the main reasons I wanted to play as a "scientist-type" character on Hollow.
