Character Decriptions

Physical

Standing at an elegant six foot even, this sylvan elf bears lean muscle that can sometimes give off a lanky appearance. He typically gives off an aura of gentleness, making him look rather approachable, or somewhat zoned out at times.

A curtain of straight ebon hair drapes from his head to his shoulders, the length kept even and without bangs. There are some strands, however, that make a bad habit of falling into his line of sight, frequently needing brushed away from his hazel eyes.

His skin is light in color, a subtle dusting of freckles across his nose from his time beneath the sun. Typical of his sort, his ears come to a fine point. His appearance resembles that of a a man in his mid to late twenties, if one were measuring by human standards. Being an elf, though, he is actually nearer 700.

Personality/Behavioral

A gentle soul, Gwydion will try to avoid violence when ever possible. This does not mean that he is unwilling to put up a fight, particularly if those he cares about are in trouble. He recognizes that not all individuals can be convinced to live in peace, and that such a time will never come. To him, violence is a last resort, and violence to the point of death is the absolute last resort.

He does his best to avoid sweeping judgements and prejudices, but it can be very hard; especially where the drow are concerned. There races have a feud that is bred for centuries between them. Caution, he feels, is an understandable necessity. He constantly fights the simmering anger he feels at the sight of the creatures, reminding himself not to judge them wholly by race.

Gwydion feels a deep connection to all of nature, and never takes more than he needs. Any plant or animal life that must be forfeit for his own survival is treated with respect, and he is sure to express gratitude. With this deep natural connection comes an immense joy in the simple things: sunshine on his face, gentle rain falling upon him, the breeze tousling through his hair and whispering in his ear. It is his ability to get lost in this pleasures that makes him seem rather spacey at times.

When it comes to interacting with others, Gwydion seems to find himself taking a paternal or fraternal view of most. It's not that he is incapable of romantic feelings; but his nuturing instincts are so strong that they are the first thing to rise up. He wants to comfort or take care of others. He is the world's big brother, in a way. Someday, perhaps, those feelings will be trumped by the thumping of his heart as he lays eyes on his perfect partner.

Skills

In Life

Nature Reading

He can , in a way, sense the flow of energy through nature. It's usually more of a heightened awareness of the way the animals, plants, and enviroment are interacting than anything else. With plants, though, it seems to extend beyond that, as he can channel his energy into them and boost their growth rate and health. He claims to be able to sense plants pain.

Healing

Between his druidic magic and his skill with plants he is a skilled healer. Not only does he know which plants can be injested to help ailments, but he knows how to sooth the mind with the scents of certain plants. The only thing he falls short in is his skill against wounds of an arcane nature.

Cooking

He is skilled at making a filling meal on limited ingredients. Being close to nature, he does his utmost best to never take more than he needs, and has turned mealtimes based on this principle into a treat. He is no good at baking, however. And most of his menu is soups and stews.

In Battle

Archery

Being the child of rangers, it was a given that he would learn at least some of these skills. His archery is not the best, but is decent, and he can use it in combat if needed. He prefers to rely on other tactics, though, usually leaning on less leathal option.

Plant manipulation

He can affect how and when plants grow by pouring his energy into them. The longer a plant would naturally take, however, the more difficult this is. For this reason, he prefers simple plants like ivy, vines, and stiff grasses (such as reeds). With these he can bind, attack, and defend.

Combat Healer

Knowing what kind of plants cure, and being able to use his own energy to heal, he is most useful in this arena. See his general healing skills for more.

Diversionary Tactics

Again, lagerly plant based. In his travels and studies he has come up with some not so nice ways to use flora  and fauna as well. While he won't make deadly poisons, he is well aware of the ability of itching powers based on tarantula hair or poison ivy to distract an enemy! And tarantula's don't have to be killed to get the hairs, either!

History

Distant Past

This section contains summaries of important events more than one year in the past.

Origins

Like most of his kind, Gwydion began his life amid the trees of Sage. Surrounded by the lush green, the earth hummed to him, and he heard it's song. Even as a babe, he rarely fussed or cried, soothed by that ever present lullaby.

He was the second born to his parents, both rangers. His mother doted upon him, but not for neglect of his elder brother, who was the apple of their father's eye. As the boys grew, it became apparent that the first born took after his active parents, excelling at the bow. Gwydion, meanwhile, preferred to sit admit the trees, or near the Spring. He would spend hours just sitting in silence, seemingly lost in daydreams.

His mother noticed that the animals would gather near. And that plants he tended nearby would flourish. In this family of rangers, he was a born druid. Speaking as much to his father, it was agreed that so long as he did practice the bow, he could receive mentorship as a druid.

Over the many years, he learned much, eventually growing to desire the chance that he might travel even beyond the well known lands of Hollow and see what else he might find. And so with confidence he would see the three dearest to him again, he set off.

Far From Home

For around a century Gwydion traveled. It seems a long time to races of less longevity, but to an elf, it is not that great...or so it seemed to him. He learned much...formed a more rounded philosophy on life and existence. He honed his ability to tap into the current of life...

And he set off to return, eager to see his family and the verdant forests of his home.

Return

Arriving in the place he had called home, Gwydion found that a century's time makes all the difference. The forest still cried even as it recovered from the decimation. The drow had invaded, and before they had been driven out his family was slain. Of course, rangers were defenders of this land. They would have fought hard, especially against the drow.

Gwydion now must rediscover his place in this world with no family to aid him.
