Physical Description

While his real age shall never be revealed, Den appears to be a youthful seventeen years old. His hair is green and carefully styled to hide to small ivory protrusions that rise from his scalp, all he bears of the draconic horns he might of inherited from his father. After making certain these small horns are hidden from view, he his forest hued hair into a loose, low ponytail that reaches a point just below his shoulders. Though he could hardly be described as a muscle man, he is strong and well toned, built somewhat like a modern baseball player might be (one of the ones that doesn't do steroids.) His skin is light, not creamy pale like some, but not exactly tan either. It's skin that might be pale if not for the fact that he spent much of his life outdoors, giving it a hint of color that lends itself towards being healthy without the complete loss of his mother's milky white influence on his complexion. He's tall, 6'1, but has a boyish face that betrays his relative youth.

Personality

Denne is a petulant boy. He's spent much of his life sheltered; between his mother hiding him away from fellow villagers for his own safety, and the isolation of his father's forest, he didn't get out much. As such, he hasn't really learned how to interact with other's very well, and the limited experience he does have is with people who either dislike him inherently or are family. He idolizes his father, a Green Dragon, for his skill with nature and magic, and of course his raw draconic power! His mother, however, is viewed with more disdain. While Den acknowledges that he would not exist without his mother, he still views falling in love with a human woman as one of his father's biggest mistakes in life. And he hates the weakness she contributed to his own bloodline. Being half Green Dragon, Den has an innate love for nature, and desire to protect it's balance. As such, his initial reactions should mostly lean toward true neutral alignments. However, he also has cause to be distrusting and disliking of anything humanoid, including elves, drow, humans, lycans and vampires who originate from one of these races. To some degree even hobbits fall under this category. Because of this, he feels no great drive to protect those races, even if their destruction might somehow throw off the balance he treasures. His need for natural balance is mostly shown in his dislike for the undead, and other things which he views as obvious "abominations of nature." Due to his isolation growing up, he has had little influence on his life and values besides that of his parents (primarily his father,) and due to this may be easily swayed if the right individual should come into his life.

Origin

Many years ago, in a land far to the east of Hollow which is and was almost entirely populated by humans who showed little belief in the magical and mythical, save for their own deities and demons, a young woman went out to gather wild flowers. Her mother was dying, and to cheer her up, the woman thought she would bring her a bouquet of the most beautiful assortment of flowers that could be found on the hillside and in the forest. As she drew near the forest, her basket already filled with blooms from the meadows of the hills, she was startled to find a man standing amid the treeline. The young woman was even more startled when he told her he could help her when she hadn't even told her what was wrong.

The stranger was beautiful in appearance, an odd and mystical sort of beauty she couldn't make sense of. His hair was as green as the leaves around him as it hung midway down his back, and his eyes a gentle brown that seemed to see into her soul. Where others might see him and cry demon, she was spurred to speak angel. With a chuckle, the man informed her that he was neither, but belonged to a race long forgotten by her people. He was a dragon, and held the knowledge to save her mother. He'd visited the village several time, he informed her, hidden by a billowing cloak that kept him from standing out among the crowd. He'd watched the woman grow from the time she was small, full of curiosity, and wonder at the world around her. He'd seen her train with her father, since the family lacked any sons, to become an excellent archer. And when her father had been drafted for a war and cut down in battle, he'd watched her stand strong and take charge while her mother mourned. He admired the woman, he admitted, and wanted to help her, wanted to prevent this loss. In return, though, he wanted to continue seeing her, to spend time with her as often as possible.

Eagerly the young woman agreed. The dragon donned his cloak, and they hurried to her mother's bedside where the woman explained that her friend was a healer who could help her. With magic and herbs combined the dragon brought her mother back from the brink, and the woman was glad to keep her promise in return. The more time she spent with the dragon, the more in love they fell, and eventually, she gave herself over to the dragon entirely. During the time between that visit and their next, she discovered she was expecting his child, and when she told him, they rejoiced at the news. Though her mother was upset, she said she would support her daughter and the woman's child. However, a new family for the woman meant it was time to find a home of her own. And so with the help of her draconic lover and her mother, she found a place to live. It was now the dragon's turn to pay her visits when he was not busy taking care of his forest realm.

The child was born without complications, a little boy named Denne Bosberg, his mother's family name, since the dragon claimed his own would be too difficult to pronounce in the common tongue. Despite his healthy birth, however, it was immediately clear poor Den would have some issues fitting in to the mostly human realm. His hair was the shade of sunlight filtering through the forest canopy, and between the wispy strands of baby hair, two bumps that would inevitably grow to horns of an unknown size could be seen. Also, tiny wings could be seen on the boys back.

The dragon hated to do so, but he advised his lover to keep their child hidden for the time being. When the boy was older, his father would teach him how to hide his wings with only a small amount of magic. The horns, with any luck, would be easier. If they weren't overly large, they could simply be covered by his hair. Reluctantly, the child's mother agreed, and the dragon departed to his forest home for the time being.

It was a few years later when the trouble came. The dragon had been making his regular visits, but was away at that precise moment. Denne was around five, still too young to really learn anything that might allow him to pass as a normal child. There was not enough focus to in his mind yet to gather even the tiny amount of magic necessary to conceal his wings. One day when Den was wailing in a tantrum, a villager peered in the window, curious as to why the boy was always locked away. What he saw shocked him, and when he told the rest of the overly religious community, outrage ensued. Mother and son dragged to the center of the village, accused of being a demon's consort and child, and sentenced to death without reasonable trial. Their sentence would have been carried out if, at just that moment, the dragon hadn't been coming to visit his family. With his druidic powers he distracted the villagers and whisked his small family away to his forest home.

There they would live as Denne grew, his father teaching him about nature. Though the child seemed to lack the skill to communicate with plants and animals as the dragon did, and had little magical ability beside what he was able to use to conceal his wings, there were other things to teach. Den learned which plants were medicinal, which were toxic, which animals were venomous, and how to make antidotes for such toxins. He learned to tend plants through natural means rather than magical, to read the signs of health and vitality in an environment and the life that thrives there. Though he couldn't understand animals on the same level as his father, Den learned to read their body language, and know when they were upset, or happy, sad or angry or about to attack. He also learned how to best present himself as a nonthreatening presence.

His mother taught him too, though her skills impressed him less. She taught him how to shoot a bow, how to properly prepare a meal, and how to mend clothing. She educated him on the realm that surrounded their forest, the rules of trade and barter that applied there. Later he would find such rules, with minor adjustments, could be applied most anywhere that there was an economy.

Time passed, and the dragon found that even a healer cannot prevent death. Animals in a dragon's realm know well enough to leave its mate alone, but if human's venture there, they are unaware of such rules. Sensing the hunters that had come in search for meat to hold them through a time of scarcity, the dragon warned his son, who hid away in the cavern hidden beneath the mass of tree roots they called home. By the time the dragon found his mate, however, he was too late. The other humans had mistaken her for a beast of the forest in their haste to find food, and shot her down before realizing she was in fact one of their own. There is nothing a druid can do for the dead, so the dragon quietly mourned and continued Denne's teaching on his own. Before too much longer, the dragon realized that it was time for Den to set out on his own. There was only so much a teacher could pass on to a student before the student had to learn for himself, even if that pupil was his son. And so, Denne set out to the west, on a journey to a strange new land that he would eventually find in Hollow.

Since Arriving in Hollow

Explanation: This section will detail what happens to Denne as he travels through Hollow. Eventually each arc of his story will be written as a single, paragraph format, summary; but since a single arc may take more than one RP to finish, a brief breakdown (in bullet form) of the key points in RP’s in the story will be kept until it is time to prepare the overall summary.

Arc 1: Gathering Nerve (aka: Lingering in Cenril)

RP 1: Hello, Mr. Undead

Characters: Calen, Denne

  • Lingering in Cenril a day after arriving, Denne comes across an unknown man who smells of death.
  • Conversation ensues, and though Denne tries to remain vague at first, he shows his dislike for this new discovery of undead creatures.
  • Den also shows contempt for the decision to change oneself for another's sake.
  • Den reveals a bit about his past to the stranger, more than he'd ever intended, describing his father as best he can without giving away his race, and even hinting at the fact that Den himself is a half breed.

Experience Speaks

Explanation: These are the thoughts and ideas Denne has picked up throughout his life

  1. Things that are human or look human, with limited exceptions, cannot be trusted.
  2. Do not be ashamed of or forget yourself, even if you must mask who you are to survive peacefully.
  3. Unbalance exists in the land I have come to, creatures that smell of death walk among the living.
  4. Lack of bulk does not always indicate lack of brawn. I should have already known as much.
  5. Even among their own, humans and their ilk cause harm.
  6. The woman known as Emi seems an exception to number 1.
  7. “Be wary the flower that grows in the bush for it is more dangerous than the snake coiled beneath it.” (Words of wisdom spoken by Miss Emi)

RP With Me?

  • I'm super RP friendly, just ask!
  • As with most players, I ask that you not use any information that you would not have reason to ICly know in the RP.
  • Please bring your best writing to the RP! That being said, I tend to fall into a pattern that follows my partners posting style, short posts get short responses, long get longer responses. I have trouble writing walls o'text though.
  • I try to avoid drama, so I tend to go with the flow of an RP. Having said this, I ask that you not abuse my kindness. There's a limit to how much a person can take, and if you are constantly using info that you couldn't have ICly in the rp, or mixing OOC and IC, etc, I will be less inclined to RP with you.

OOC Contact

The best way to contact me is hmail and tells. There's no guarantee that I will have the OOC channel on at any given moment. At this point, I don't plan to give out any messenger info. If this changes, I'll update this section accordingly.
