Description

Dench is massive; he stands just shy of nine feet tall and is as broad as a barn. His body is powerfully muscled and bulky, most of his mass being in his upper torso and shoulders. Though most trolls are surprisingly strong despite their lankiness, Dench is a walking siege engine. His legs are shorter, ending in in hard, hoof-like feet that better allow him to grip the rocks of his native environment, and his arms are elongated which allows him to walk on all fours like a gorilla. His hands are massive and his fingers end in talons capable of rending flesh or bone. His hide is scaly and thick, a form of natural armor, with sharp, rocky protuberances along his back and arms which also serve as weapons, being hard as bone. The trolls eyes are a baleful, reddish-orange and glow when he's enraged, either way providing keen vision even in the dark. His mouth is filled with razor sharp, stone-like teeth, the better to mash and chew his food raw, as he prefers it. Dench is hairless and possessing of a foul, fetid odor that marks his approach and announces what he is at a distance to those with sharper senses than normal. He favors large, two-handed weapons (especially axes) that smaller races would be hard pressed to lift, let alone wield. He uses these with disturbing skill and power.

Background

Dench has only recently emerged in the above ground, driven upwards out of the depths near Craughmoyle and Trist'oth by dwarven and drow patrols. The troll has thus far seen little point in discussing his past and it's dubiously questionable how much he thinks on it himself, operating more on animal-like instinct than rational thought at times. Despite that, in the manner of many predators, the troll has exhibited a remarkable cunning when the situation calls for it.

As the tale of Dench continues, no doubt his background will expand. For now, he simply is, and that's enough for him. One would be safe in assuming his earlier life was marked with all the traditional violence and struggle for survival that most trolls lives are.

As of late, Dench has shown more curiosity about civilization. He's been seen lurking nearer the settlements in Kelay and the Xalious Mountains, though his intentions are unknown at this time. A number of missing livestock have been blamed on sightings of him, whether founded or not.

Abilities

Dench, like all his brethren, possesses remarkable strength even for his size... and given his stature, it's a considerable amount. The cave troll has remarkable endurance as well, easily able to continue on for days without rest if need be. Also like his kin, Dench heals any and all injuries remarkably quickly and is effectively immune to most diseases and poisons courtesy of his troll metabolism. Given how high it is, the troll can literally eat just about anything organic without issue... and even some things that would be considered inorganic by most races of Hollow. Fire can leave lasting injuries but even that element has to burn through his tough hide before it can begin to damage the tissue beneath. Dench also possesses a rather keen sense of smell and hearing, with average eyesight and the ability to see in the dark, though his sense of taste and touch are both impaired by his rocky, scaly skin. This same skin, with its texture and ridges, allows the troll to be remarkably stealthy for a creature so large when underground or in rocky, or boggy, areas.

One thing Dench will never be accused of, alas, is being incredibly bright. He has his share of the predators cunning, like a lion stalking its prey, but when it comes to deductive reasoning, or even reading, the troll is rather inadequate. He's not stupid but he thinks very slow thoughts and finds mental exercise frustrating... and frustrating things tend to make him violent. Dench is functionally illiterate and doesn't particularly like writing, feeling a touch superstitious about it, and worried that it steals things out of the heads of people who can read it. For this reason, and their ability to conjure fire, Dench tends to distrust spellcasters.

Dench does possess a rudimentary sort of skill with painting. Casual onlookers would call it 'cave drawings barely able to convey a sense of form' or 'graffiti' whereas Dench would call it 'fine art'. It's one of the few non-violent hobbies he has except for when he uses the stuff inside of his latest meal as paint. Dench isn't very discerning.

Fears

Given his capability for regeneration there is very little that Dench fears. Even fire is little hindrance as he'll look for ways around it or just smash a magic user with his superior reach.
