Down the broken path

Cornell was a young vampire when he heard the calling of the death god. He was a wanderer then with no purpose. Vakmatharas filled him with visions of blood and death and more importantly true power. He sated himself engorging on the blood of victims from town to town, each conquest filled with gruesome murders each worse than the last. The vampire left Vakmatharas' message for the God to see, as well as the fearful humans. In one night he murdered an entire family line and strung up their bodies in the great hall of their mansion, each corpse covered in wounds, ripped clothing, and red fluid staining the ground with specks and droplets of blood amid the more gorier puddles.

"They hung like mannequins, steel bolts shooting through their bodies and into the ceiling. He cut their throats in their beds, slashed open their stomachs and let the steaming hunk of intestines fall out onto the floor against the balustrades as they must have fought to get away. Others were impaled alive in grim crucifixes watching in horror akin to nightmares as the murderer mutilated dead relatives and hooked them against the walls with impaling spikes and steel cables, leaving them to die of blood loss. We discovered them at dawn before the constables even came.It shook the faith of everyone, even the priests, we all feared the unknown as they said their spiritual rites and wished the dead a safe journey into the hands of Sven but that didn't make anyone feel better at all. Whoever did it, he killed enough people so brutally that this small town won't be able to forget for a long time. Hard to believe anything human could have done this one.... " -Quote from Richard Brian, part of the group of servants that discovered the massacre.

Cornell visited 17 towns and cities in this gruesome fashion. He reveled in the painstaking death and misery and fear he wrought. It wasn't long before the elder dark mage, Malkazar, visited the vampire in his sleep. He brought him more visions, but this time of a home. He painted the way in blood. When Cornell woke he chased after the images and was brought before the stone slabs of Vakmatharas' hidden temple on tired limbs. The journey took him months without feeding, without stopping until he met the higher calling. After all Malkazar was bade in visions himself to find the vampire.

He was nearing a century old now and was taken in to the order. He was made an acolyte, a dark initiate with a penchant for blood and death. He trained under several masters. Malkazar, the twisted and elder death mage; Olof, the savage and wanton blood-berserker; and finally, Seirvum, the relentless harrow, Lord of Dread.

Years of training passed. Cornell prided himself on being ambitious, at wanting more. By the end of the sixth year he was promoted to warrior. Then as the years progressed he became doubtless and proficient promoting to dark blade, chaos fiend, bane champion, and finally dread knight, Seirvum's chosen squire. He was presented with a set of armor that included gauntlets, shoulder plating, armored boots, leggings, and a helmet. The jutting spikes on the armor and specifically the shoulder pads reminded Cornell of a carcass with bones inside of a chest that were yanked out of their cavity and sharpened. It was called the carrion armor.

The only thing missing was a chest-plate. Cornell was to earn it by slaying a beast dragon and claiming it's bones as a prize. The Dragon he sought out and killed was a white dragon inhabiting the frost maw region. It slept inside a glacial peak with a blizzard beating down on the area restlessly. When it was disturbed it came at him with rending claws tearing his chest open and leaving the beginning of a nasty scar on the vampire's chest. It also used it's magical breath, freezing the ground between monster and vampire with shards of deadly ice. Though he almost died more than once in trying to claim his prize the vampire finally rested his burning fire brand between the dragon's large rib cage. It pierced the animal's heart sending a sheath of flame inside it, burning out the organs. When Cornell stumbled out of the ice cavern back down the mountain path, he held in his hand a hefty bag of dragon bones.

The bones were used to make the chest-plate carapace the vampire wears in present times and a weapon. An axe made of dragon-bone. These items were blessed by the priests of perversion, dark mages who would ensure the rare bones would be preserved throughout use.

Seirvum was pleased and Malkazar had another quest for the vampire to undertake. In the heart of the vampire city was a traitor to Vakarash and Vakmatharas. A vampire claiming himself above the god of death, crowning himself one and only king vampire. The orders were simple. Cleanse the heretic. When Cornell came to his estate the vampire's guards were ready. Ghouls, heretic vampires, servants and even a chained cerberus beast let free in a desperate whim. It shot flames out of the mouths of three heads. He wore it down being careful. It was a beast and powerful, but it did not think like him. Even with a growing number of injuries, the vampire cast a final spell; the creature wobbled on pained limbs, shifts seen under thick calloused skin. Beneath the hard layer the creature's muscles were stripped clean from bone as it died by the Dread Knight's hands. It laid in the courtyard in immense pain, eventually succumbing to shock and Vakmatharas' grasp as Cornell entered the villa.

Gripped in rage and insanity the heretic lord challenged Cornell in the foyer. He held an ancient weapon in his hand but ultimately was defeated by the war-bred vampire. Cornell crushed his skull between two gauntleted palms, his head and brain matter exploding between his fingers before his body went limp yet the vampire twisted on his heel anyway and ripped the infamous vampire king's head from his shoulders in one wrenching movement. The body and building were cast to flame, the Dread Knight leaving with a head in his grasp and an ancient relic. A vampire sword.

  • Recruiting mercenaries to be paid in gold and all those who want to be part of the glorious reform of the vampire city.
