The Path of an Exile

The sound of footsteps echoed through the chamber of the Veracian High Council. Seven great men and beasts sat patiently among their raised thrones awaiting the next trial to begin. From the shadows on the opposing end of the room a group of beings slipped from the darkness and into the pale torch light of the room. Amongst the newcomers were a plethora of armed Naga guardsmen and a few scruffy looking loyalist though three beings stood out from the rest. A lycanthrope whose shackles gripped tightly at his skin as he tried to tug away from the guardsmen, An avian who stood freely from the rest in a full suit of exquisite blessed armor, and a lone human who wore a proud collection of Guardians plate armor. A moment of silence was heeded as the group arrived and it was the stout dwarf in the middle of the council that broke the silence. His strong voice shook the sounds of the eerie room.

"Carth Verac, You have been summoned here today for a trial under the accusations of disobeying the councils law of peace by knowingly building and leading a militia of Rebels into the heart of the Northern Guthanian Highlands, Upon which you assaulted and slayed the Guthan Forces, freed any and all enslaved beings, and proceeded to burn the encampment. How do you plead to these charges?"

The blond haired human stared dully to the Dwarven man with his arms crossed. His face expressionless as he parted his lips to call out in a low tone.

"Guilty."

The dwarf nodded and motioned with his hands to those about him.

"With your guilt plea you also accept the consequences of your actions that were soon to follow including the declaration of The Unstable War made by Guthanian forces upon the people of Verac, The retaliation assault on the capital of Mortspire, The untimely and unnecessary death of Valorian Verac, High Knight of the Council, The capture and execution of Lord Smaltier of the Orpeak Division, and the corruption of Guthans Will upon the Lycanthrope, Dyalo Verac, Whom is a creation of the great lord Verac himself."

Before the human could speak the binded Lycan released a roar and snapped his teeth to the council.

"My actions were my own!"

The lycans words went unheeded as the eyes of the council remained fixed on male before them. His jaw began to flex in frustration as he blurted out to the council.

"The Council made no move! They did nothing as Innocent people died! Innocent beings of Verac! One who served the good lord only to be hopelessly slaughtered by the Guthanian Army! Someone had to act before our entire land was to be rai-"

His words were cut short as the dwarf shouted.

"Do you accept these events as a consequence to your actions, Mister Carth!?"

The human bit deep into his lip as he glared to the council. A few seconds passed before he finally gave his acceptance.

"I do."

The dwarf nodded and raised his voice even louder so that the remaining six councilmen could hear his declare.

"By the admittance of guilt given on this day for your crimes against the land of Verac a council vote shall declare your fate and proper punishment. Such crimes have no leeway due to the compromised safety of our homeland and the needless death of countless militia and two high ranking officers of the Veracian Army. All council in favor of section thirty-four, code six speak I."

"I." "I." "I." "I." "I." "I."

All but one of the men before Carth spoke in favor of the council, the final word went unheard by a large green skinned Ogre who sat at the far right of the room and simply stared to the boy before him with saddened eyes and a heave of heartache upon his chest.

"The council has spoken. Carth Verac of the High Knights Guard. You are here by banished from the kingdom of Verac, You're abilities, belongings, and faith are all forfeit to those who stand before you. Yo-"

"No! That isn't fair!" "What!?"

The Lycanthrope and Avian spoke out of turn. The chains that binded the Lycanthrope were pulled harder by the Naga Guard.

The armored Avian spread his wings and prepared himself for a flurry of words to the council but was cut off before he could start.

"Sir Demiour Avanas if you wish to remain on your path of the righteous you will silence yourself before you suffer the same fate as your dear friend here!"

The avian lowered his wings and turned to look at Carth in silence. The human simply nodded in acceptance to the avian and he would soon back down. The dwarven councilman motioned to two great stones that stood before Carth on his right and left.

"Carth Verac, Your abilities of the Guardian shall be forfeit back to the power of wince you received them. Upon touching these Soul Stones your mana reserves will be depleted from your core and everything you have ever learned about the Will of Verac will be forgotten and sealed off from your person. You will no longer posses the ability of lightning, nor shadow. You can give this to us willingly or we shall take it by force."

Oceanic eyes stayed locked to the stones for several moments before the Naga guard began to shuffle behind Carth. Yet he didn't give them the chance to touch him. Instead he thrust his palms onto the cool surface of the two stones and began to feel a burning run through him. At first it tickled but soon became painful as the human began to release cries of pain. The runic marks that had grown to embed themselves on his flesh began to fade as the stone sucked his mana pool dry.

Several agonizing minutes passed as the human gave his gifts back to the maker. Once the process was complete Carth jerked his hands back and looked to the council with pure hatred in his eyes.

"Sir Carth, You shall no longer carry the Verac title in your name, You shall no longer walk our lands. You shall forever more be banished from the great Verac Kingdom and shall only be considered an Exile amongst our kind. Your path is now a lonely one, yet one of your own choice and wishes. May you serve it better than you did us."

Carth gritted his teeth but turned to leave chamber with the Naga Guardsmen but was stopped short by a shout from the dwarven councilmen.

"Oh, Sir Carth. The guards will confiscate your armor before you leave. But first, I will need to see your sword. I'm afraid it carries the same will as you once did. It must be destroyed."

Feeling his heart drop the human let his eyes fall to his waistline and glared to the golden hilt that exposed itself there. Slowly the man pulled forth the Blessed-Sword-of Verac and held it out to one of the Naga. Before the beast could claim the weapon Carth released his grasp and allowed the metal to fall to the ground below. The blade collided with the cold stone floor and shattered upon impact, the will of the council. Carth then turned to push through the crowd as he overheard the final words he would ever catch of the Veracian High Council; "Burn it.".

At the docks the now stripped Carth stood only in rags with handcuffs clamped tightly around his wrists. The Naga escort who slithered beside the human approached the loading bay of the vessels and hissed in a calm tone to the human.

"Where to exsssile?"

Carth pondered only for a moment before nodding to the front left ship.

"Cenril City... Hollow."

The Naga nodded and began to slither up the loading bay with Carths binds in hand. Once they rested upon the vessel the anchor was hoisted and the ship set sail. The Naga guardsmen eyed over the exile before digging around in his bag. He pulled out a rather crude looking Rusted Dagger and handed it to Carth who was still in chains.

"Hollow is a rough land, Exsssile. Take thisss. I hope you know what you are getting yourssself into."

Carth took the blade into his cuffed palms and couldn't help but smirk.

"Lets take it from the top..." he muttered beneath his breath.

They were off.
