Titans of Winter Tournament 2018

From HollowWiki

Titans of Winter

Frostmaw's seventh annual Titans of Winter tournament is set to begin. In the wake of growing international threats, the tournaments staging areas are largely confined to Frostmaw and the reaches surrounding it. The tournament will not venture far from the land of ice and snow.

Whilst your opponent is a deadly enough foe, contenders will be faced with the additional challenge of an altered environment. Contenders should be wary! The land is just as adept at killing as your foe.

Rules and Details

  • Tournament will be single elimination rounds.
  • No entry fee required.
  • The duel dates and times will be announced days prior to allow duelists and watchers to prepare. Any scheduling issues need to be sorted before the day of the duel, and no-shows will be DQ'd while a possible Back-up Entrant takes their place.
  • The location for each duel will be announced at least one hour prior to the duel beginning, but any environmental effects will only be announced just before the duel is set to begin. This is not intended to give one side or the other advantages, but provide an additional challenge in the spirit of dueling.
  • Duels will be the traditional 3 rounds and final defense, with either 10 or 15 minute rounds as agreed by duelists.
  • All duels will be posted on the Wiki, please record and send your duels to Hildegarde if she is not present for it.
  • Duelists will be required to find their judges either well before or on time for the duel, so once you have agreed a date with your partner, it is advised that you begin to search for judges. NB, it is important that you and your opponent agree on judges. If you cannot agree on your judges, please inform Hildegarde ASAP. If none are available that you can agree on, it is suggested to begin the duel, record all posting times, and send it to judges afterward. Duelists may not judge other duels in the tournament, as any of their characters. Hildegarde hopes to be available during each duel and is willing to judge but will find replacements if necessary.
  • Duelists are allowed to add further stakes to their duels if they so desire. If no additional stakes are agreed upon, 'auto-hit round to the winner is the default stakes.
  • Guests may organize betting pools if they so desire.
  • RP from and within the audience is permitted and encouraged! It goes without saying, of course, that the audience should not interact with the duelists for the sake of fairness.

Helpful Guides

For those who perhaps feel a little nervous or a little rusty about duelling or even judging, it sometimes helps to check out the various guides available on the Wiki. For those who are interested, you can check them out below:

Prizes

  • Second Place: 100,000 gold, and a +5 custom Weapon AND +4 Armor of their choosing.
  • Champion: 250,000 gold and a +10 custom Weapon AND +7 custom Armor of their choosing.
    • An additional prize may be offered to the champion, depending upon the situation. Details will not be released until the moment of offer.

Last year, our champion was Shishi and as the reigning Titan of Winter he will be available to challenge for the title. In this instance, the Champion will have the opportunity to double their prize... but at the risk of it all. Double or nothing, the prize of a lifetime!

Not a fighter but still want to be involved?

Maybe you're a lover and not a fighter! That's totally okay. This year we're trying something different. RP is great and we all like to see more of it and the Titans of Winter tournament can make a lot of RP if we allow it to. So anyone who is involved in a healing RP (so for example, healing a defeated contender) post-duel can log it as a tournament related RP and earn a cash prize. Healing RP isn't the only thing you can do! Interested? Contact Hildegarde for details.

Contenders

If you are interested in participating in the tournament, please contact Hildegarde and Leone. It's first come, first served. If there are no slots available, you can be listed as a back-up entrant to take someone's place in the event that they are unavailable to complete their duel.

Back-Up Entrants

Back-Ups are not called upon in any specific order. The one most likely to provide a fair opponent to the duelist (and good show for the audience), and is most readily available at the needed time, is the one that is selected. It is possible, however, that duels may need to be re-arranged with the back up participant if we suspect they'll be more reliable.
