Ring of Gluttony

From HollowWiki

Often locally referred to simply as 'Gluttony'.

Background

Pugilism, be it bare-fisted or with creative fist weapons, has always been a popular draw. A criminal draw, as well. Made illegal due to the danger to its participants as well as the crowd, and the flurry of criminal activity that often followed along behind, it didn't do much to stop the organizers. It just drove them underground.

Founder of Gluttony, Tomas, used to be one of those considered nigh unbeatable in his day. Though he'd retired before the Preklek Invasion of Cenril, he took up arms in her defense together with his half-brother, Danko, who insisted on being there to protect his half-human sibling. And once that was over, they remained staunch during the pirate attack on the city. Though Tomas had retired fairly well off for a prizefighter, he knew once the dust had settled that things had changed in the city. He missed the fights. He missed being an integral part of them. He ventured back in as a trainer, but was unable to find a regular or even regulated venue for his boys and girls to fight in.

With Danko once more at his back (this time to protect him from his own stupidity when it came to management), Tomas founded the Ring of Gluttony.

Setup

The Rules

1. No weapons, no magic. This is pugilism. Depending on the match-up, cestuses or some other form of battle glove (or other inventive forms, such as dipping the wrapped fist into resin and then into crushed glass) may be allowed.

2. Anything goes pending individual matchups.

3. Humanoids only. Lycanthropes in animal form aren't allowed. Felines must have claws sheathed. Fermin aren't allowed due to racism on Tomas' part. Drow aren't allowed due to racism on Danko's.

The Fights

Amateur Nights

On nights not focused on publicity backed individual match-ups or tournaments, Gluttony serves as a draw for fighters from any corner to come and test their mettle. Small purses are offered up as prizes for the winners, with those facing long streaks having potential for higher purses.

Gangs and other organizations who have a need for proven fighters have taken to watching these nights as a means of sizing up potential recruits. Considering that unemployment is a serious concern in Cenril, the benefit of having a potentially stable job has ensured that -- beyond the need to prove oneself in the ring -- there is no short supply of men and women looking to test their mettle.

  • Unless specified otherwise at the start of the night, winning amateurs are only allowed five matches. Once they win their fifth match, they are required to take their purse and step down.

Individual Match-Ups

Any two individuals of repute may by dint of fame or nomination have Gluttony (through Fion) schedule a match-up.

Tournaments

Gluttony holds their very own tournament style championships. Two tournaments are held each year, and the winners of each tourney at the end of the year fight for the right to the championship title.

Bait Matches

During off season, nobodies off the street (not always willingly), called "bait", are arranged to fight tournament winners or other famed fighters for a to the death match. There is a high admissions fee to these events. The spectators bet on how long the bait will last.

There is a pool of money that increases with every bait match for any bait who can kill the fighter they are opposing. There has only ever been one bait fighter to win that money, and as a result it is a fair amount of gold.

These are rare events arranged for a specific, and typically very rich, audience.

Location

Gluttony does not presently have a venue of its own, instead renting spaces or making arrangements to secure locations. They change these locations sporadically, sometimes staying a week and sometimes only a night. Their regulars have a system in place to know where to find them. These locations are typically found in the slummier parts of Cenril.

Danko | elf | male | unknown

Manager

Slaine | human | female | 34

Dark of complexion, eyes and hair; with a craggy face that speaks of a history in the ring Slaine is nothing if not an intimidating woman. A born leader, it's not only natural for her to take command of a situation, but -- to her mind -- right. It is through Slaine that Gluttony brings in business through ... other means. She leads a special group of Gluttony employees whose sole purpose is to protect these business assets. She has a rivalry with Muira.

Slaine's Minions

Onora | human | female | 28

Standing at six foot flat, Onora is a woman who isn't afraid to use her height to her advantage. Built with wide shoulders and hips, she could've been a brawler had she not chosen to brush up on her charisma, instead. Now she acts as Slaine's right hand woman, doing the majority of recruitment into Slaine's posse and assisting as both trainer and manager within Slaine's sphere of influence. She's known for being a relatively good judge of character.
