RP:The Problem Plaguing Lanlan

From HollowWiki

Summary: Gevurah pays Dyraxdiin a surprise visit to enlist his help in ridding Lanlan of his cure.

Mage Tower

Gevurah travels to Xalious at night. She despises this little village, though the cloudy sky helps the ambience tonight. She rode in on her new spider mount, a lovely gift from her husband delivered as a slap in the face, a reminder of all the ways she is not living up to their agreement and all the ways he is. Meeting with Dyraxdiin behind his back is yet another of her transgressions against him, albeit a small one. She’s greeted by a low ranking student who sends for Dyraxdiin the moment Gevurah asks to see him. She moves stiffly as if in pain. She stands in marble lobby as her spider creeps about the town.

Dyraxdiin is fetched by said student, who then scurries off down the hall in the opposite direction to avoid being in the company of the Drow Matriarch for even another second. Dyraxdiin doesn't blame them. The Drow are strange creatures. Eventually he arrives at the lobby, where he greets Gevurah with a barely perceptible nod of his head in recognition. The great wyrm, disguised as a simple human per usual, takes in her countenance, her manner. Odd. "If you travelled all the way to the tower, it must be important." He gestures to a nearby door, offering her the option to speak in private, out of the view of any prying eyes.

Gevurah walks through the door to speak privately. “Yes. It’s about Lanlan D’l’sel’D’issan.” She works her jaw as she recalls everything that has transpired in the past week with the drow illusionist. How confident is she that Lanlan is possessed, and not faking his own possession in a naked attempt to usurp her throne? She presses on. She wants to believe. “Lanlan has been possessed. The entity inside him is very old, older than you. I tried to exorcise him, but the being inside escaped. I’d like your help in freeing Lanlan from this curse.” She pauses briefly then adds hurriedly, “I would not rely on my husband, Daath, for this. He has no interest in helping Lanlan. Quite the opposite, really.”

Gevurah is oblivious to the rumors circulating through the Mage’s Guild about Daath, Lanlan and herself. She assumes Diin is uninterested in why Daath is being excluded because he is a consummate professional focused on the real problem: Lanlan’s possession. “It happened in the Fog Forest on Rynvale Island. I was with him. We found a cottage in the mist hidden beneath a tear in the plane. The leylines from the rift were… incredible. They extended beyond the horizon. Inside the cottage was a long-dead corpse, a skeleton. Lanlan was investigating it,” aka he poked it with his wand, “when an ooze-like substance attacked his face and melted into his flesh. He lost consciousness, and when he came to he referred to things by their ancient names. For example, he called The Sage Forest the Robelous Woods. He wasn’t violent immediately and I lured him back to my temple to confirm that he was possessed - which I did - and then to exorcise him. That’s when he became violent, we battled, and he fled. He had mentioned earlier in our expedition that he had been to the Fog Forest before with…a feline apprentice of yours. I forget her name. That girl may know more.”

Dyraxdiin folds his arms across his chest, choosing to ignore the mental images that spring up in his mind when she says she was with Lanlan alone in the forest, and then a cottage. Really, those rumors aren't doing anyone any good. "This falls more in line with Daath's area of expertise... but I can take a look at Lanlan, see if I can't burn out whatever has inhabited him. We have an arcane healer in the guild as well. Possibly with their help, we can work something out." By burn out, he really means just that. "I'll send a letter to the apprentice you mentioned to see if she might have any more information that could be of use." Dyraxdiin moves to the door and opens it, simultaneously dispelling the sound ward. "If he hasn't discarded his items, we may be able to locate him by tracking his Xalious staff's signature. I will keep you posted."

Gevurah nods as if conceding Diin’s point that this is Daath’s area of expertise. “Yes, well…” She trails off. She doesn’t want to explain why Daath is mad, which perhaps only helps fuel that rumor she doesn’t even know exists. “It is important for you to understand that I expect Lanlan, Second Patron of Trist’oth, to not be grievously harmed by any of this.” That’s a nonsense statement in Trist’oth where no drow leader cares for the heads of any other house, but she hopes the surface dwellers are ignorant of drow politics. She meets his gaze sharply to drive her point home. “Thank you for looking into this. I’ll let you know if I learn anything else or see him again.” She leaves the way she came and melts into the shadows the moment she is outside the tower’s light.
