Part of the Souls Out of Time Arc

Synopsis: Aarika, Eirik and Kaval have a meeting and mission debriefing within the clan headquarters. In the war room Kaval is the first to accept a contract to scout the complex of witches and mages out in Venturil. Eirik also makes mention of having a similar discussion with another member.

The Steel Collective Barracks

Eirik can be found within the war room, looking over maps and documents. Silver eyes continue to stare at the known entrances and exits of this witch coven in Venturil that have been seen in the area. The coven he had previously attacked and saved a child. The collective needed a few scouts to bring forth details for an assault. Their attack on Brynna and Henry switched Eiriks mind to a singular purpose. The parchment in hand is set down whilst his mind further pondered over who would be best for the assignment. As per usual the Lycan is dressed for war; black armored sleeves work their way up both arms and weave into fur covered, leather and steel plate pauldrons. A sleeveless black leather jerkin adorns his torso while matching pants give way to steel greaves which protect shins and booted feet. Kaval, is a name that comes to mind, including Sylla and Toth. He hoped he could run into them while waiting.

Aarika was also in the war room but as Eirik studied maps she studied a book. The pages were pristine and littered with names and numbers, her finger tips flicked through the pages while eyes scanned the material. Idly a hand raked through her braided main before finally setting on a page. The matriarch then plucked a quill from an inkwell and get the tool three taps before moving the tip to scratch upon her notebook. She wasn't fully dressed for war but had the under bit going. She wore black leather pants with a matching fitted tunic.

Kaval walked through the halls side to side with the adolescent Zahkar. She had spent a considerable amount of the day within her room buffering out the blemishes in her obsidian knife. The thing had been through a rough life, and the chips it gained at the Frostmaw gates ambush nearly rendered the thing useless. She did miss the cold of Frostmaw, baring thick wolf fur trousers but only a blue dyed leather vest on her top, still not use to the temperate difference from her homelands. While toying with the blade she thought of retiring she paused at the entrance of the war room, peering in at Eirik and Aarika. Eirik's studying look of the map making her curious, “Hiya, all good?

Eirik shifted his gaze to Aarika who sat studying a book before him. Though the Lycan found himself curious he says nothing upon the subject. “When was the last time you saw Kaval?” Of course he would speak of the next person who speaks up. Silver hues flick to the recruit of his current topic and he allows a smile to spread over his scarred features. “Kaval,” giving a pause for a moment to settle his amusement. “Everything is good.” Good timing. “I was actually wondering if you were ready for your first assignment?” Well calloused hand points to an empty chair beside the table. Everything about Eiriks demeanor speaks of business and of the mission to come. There was much to discuss with the recruit - things which only he himself had discussed with Aarika. The covens activities have something which infuriates him. Pushes him to finally bring their efforts to a halt.

Aarika looked up from her notes with a smirk, She had felt Kaval's eyes on her before she spoke, you know that tingle you get when someones watching you? Kaval would say hello and Aarika would slip in a quick, "Right now." The woman would receive a smile and deep nod in form of greeting before the feather of her quill singled out a chair along side Eirik, the gesture was in unison which made her shake her head, "Good you see you." Then her wolf was addressed, "And you." The pages tore Aarika away once again as she waiting for Kaval's answer to take on an assignment. If she said yes the metal tip would began scratching against the parchment once again.

Kaval smirked at the pair with an eager glint in her storm hued eyes, taking the offer to enter the war room and move over to the table gestured to. Zahkar followed after, giving Aarika an almost fond look yet head low and leering at Eirik as he took position besides Kaval as she seated herself. The ever-growing beast seemed very unsure of the lycan, serious attitudes raising tensions for him. However, the human seemed oblivious of her companions uneasiness, or; more likely, just didn't care. There was business to be had today. “Aye ya, I would think so.”

Eirik found himself shaking his head towards the dual timed point of an empty chair. How odd. They already seemed to be working together quite well. This would make such things easier, as the Matron and her second were of one mind. Kaval’s more easy going nature is noted by Eirik, and her wolf even gets a bit of an eyeing. Truthfully, the lycan is always business first, fun later. Usually in the wake of celebration of a victory. A map is slid across the table for Kaval to look upon and study as he speaks. Upon it is pictured the great plains of Venturil, a base labeled ‘underground complex’ and three distinctly different entrances or exits marked as well. The map itself might leave one to believe that there was a network of tunnels lying in wait. “So I’ll start off by explaining the details and if it is something your interested in we can progress from there.” Eirik leans back in his seat to look upon Kaval directly. “Over the last few months there has been a coven of witches and dark mages attacking caravans, innocent people either lost or traveling through the plains. We discovered a scene of death and gore and followed their trail.” A finger points through the air at the map before Kaval. “We found an underground base where they have been performing rituals on children.” Eirik pauses for a moment to let the weight of what he is saying and is about to say further sink in. “They have been imbuing children with souls not of their own and for an unknown agenda. We don’t know how long they have been there, but I have personal interest in seeing them removed from the site.” Removed from site is the explanation he gives for destroy or eradicate. “However, scouts have recently reported some new exits that their base has access too. What we need is another scouting mission. We need a rough head count and we need to know of their activities and if our map is correct.” Now Eirik would fall silent, waiting for the others to respond.

Aarika started doing Math on the table....as soon as Kaval agreed to the mission. Her strokes, of the quill, were strong and fast and she finally she reached the equation. There would be a pause she she stared down into her notebook, "The payment is 5,000 gold pieces to be split among those who join you." Now her blues moved to Kaval she was satisfied with her arithmetic and hoped the woman would be as well

Kaval rose off the seat slightly to inspect the map before her. Her eyes scanned what trails could lead towards each entrance, which pathway would have better elevation for a quick entry without much notification to their prey. This seemed a better task than uprooting a nesting wyvern near a village, though not fully knowing her target could make the mission difficult. “I will do this hunt.” she said flatly to the pair. Corrupting innocents, stealing their right to freedom, enforcing their will on those who could never protest. Unacceptable. “Do we know of their tunnels? If we are not to be smoking them out like a fox, going into may cause us to have our backs to the walls without this information.” Entering a lair unprepared is a deathwish, however she was determined to skin these creatures for their crimes. Zahkar pawed the ground in readiness, hackles raised in reflection of Kavals mood. “Their magic, should know what of it as well. An attack must be swift when the time comes, do not let a witch catch you in their line of sight. I know enough that their looks can be enough to path an attack.” The scars on her shoulder itched, thinking back to the ambush. She trailed a finger over the area above the base, “Where the land drops down we should look, this is a thing of nature. Make exits at the lowest part so the land will hide it, we should look at any areas in the perimeter that dip down. Come west and arch up north-east, backtrack then arch down south-east to check.”

Eirik found himself flicking his attention from Aarika and her quill to Kaval as she spoke. Listening intently to every detail that she gives breath too. Truth of the matter is that a battle plan has already been decided upon, the only wrinkle in their ploy are those entrances and exits. They needed to be sure that there weren’t more. “We will start with the areas you have mentioned.” He gives another pause for a moment. “We only know a few details about the complex itself. Being trapped in there once myself.” He thinks for a moment on how best to describe what he had encountered. “The walls are reinforced with solid stone and was most likely built over a long period of time.” Another smaller map is pulled giving further details about the known network of tunnels. Its a mostly filled out map with a few areas that have not been drawn out. “We must be careful while we are in there. You will find both mages and witches. Necromancers to be more forthcoming. You will see undead. You will see things in there that might irk or upset you. Do your very best to not be discovered. If we are, we must make sure that none escape to give alarm to the others.” The last map is offered to Kaval to keep. “Until its time to depart insure your supplies are ready. I have one more member to speak with this day. Once that is complete we will head out.” A finger points to himself as well. Though with his position as both client and second, he will not be receiving pay.

Kaval began making a mental list of what would be needed. Had the interior been excavated dirt then she could have used her typical large game attire, however any clothing armoured with metal plates would cause a good risk of detection if accidentally scraped against stone walls. She hummed to herself in thought, debating to bring a short bow or if she would need to thread a long bowstring for a compact bow. Though the force from that sort of bow in close corners could also alert others. Hopefully stalking this outpost would not have the need to even nock an arrow. Drawing herself out of her thought she sat back and offered thanks for Aarika for her prayer and addressed Eirik again, “This, we will need leathers I think, of skins of animals around there to mask our own sent. Soft patted shoes, and short raged weapons if we are unlucky.” She eyed down at her dagger, maybe this wouldn't be retired so soon. “I will see on medical supplies. I can help, in a pinch, but I will not tire myself if escape is needed.” Standing up and taking the map, she had a pretty good idea of what she would need to gather.

Eirik would give a final nod to Kaval. “We will gather what we can from here, and make sure that each member is properly equipped.” Eirik finally let out a genuine smile revealing those rows of ivory teeth. Thank the gods this would come to an end soon. “Brynna our healer can help out with a few medical supplies as well. Be sure to see her if you need certain things which can’t be found around here easily.” That centralized map upon the table is pulled forward to start inspecting it yet again denoting the end of this mission debriefing. “Until we meet again” Eiriks voice low and grainy, riddled with an unfamiliar accent. Battle plans still needed to be completely finalized.
