Part of the On Stranger Tides Arc

This is a Necromancer's Guild RP.

Summary: Khitti is finally found by Elga, who wants to learn how to properly wield shadowfire.

The Necromancers Tower, Vailkrin

Khitti had not actually had time to go to her office since the tower in the Dark Forest had been repurposed for the Necromancer’s Guild. For someone that had been freshly wounded the walk up all those stairs were murder and once she got into the room and into her lovely comfy chair, she… really didn’t do much at all. The attack on the Xalious tree had not been kind to the former templar, leaving her with a lot of cuts and bruises and arrow wounds in her left shoulder and right thigh. It’s a wonder she even made it back to Cenril really. Anyone looking for Khitti would get directed upstairs to her office, of course, and there they’d find the bandaged woman in her usual sleeveless, knee length dress still seated, somewhat encompassed by setting up teams per ship for an upcoming Warrior’s Guild mission to some hellhole southeast of Rynvale, the room itself not entirely furnished just yet, though it had a chair on the opposite side of the desk. Khitti stopped as she happened upon Quintessa’s name, a frown lining her lips. She couldn’t not let the changeling go on the mission--they really needed her. But, Khitti was still worried that -something- bad would come of it. Or maybe it was just that she didn’t want the girl that she had started to call ‘daughter’ around her whatsoever.

Elga || For the second time in a week, the human finds herself strolling into the necromancer's tower, eyeing the onyx structure of remarkable craft. Her eyes, a violent swirl of grey's and blacks, are youthful and filled with an unyielding vigor, which matches the confidence carried in her armored stride. Much like her first attempt at finding the black arts teacher, Elga is asked by the greeter to sign her name upon the black tome, and she does without any worry. "I'm looking for a person named Khitti." She asks while setting the writing device aside. The unknown apprentice directs her to the stairs, where she may find the teacher's office. "Thanks." The Venturilite spell blade shifts away and begins to climb those aforementioned steps. When Elga does arrive at the office, her gaze finds a bandaged woman in a sleeveless, knee length dress, sitting. "I don't mean to intrude, but I was told that the black tides teacher could be found here, are you by chance her?" The human standing in the doorway of Khitti's office meets the description of the average Venturilite female; dressed as a warrior in half plate, with honey-blonde hair pulled back in a thick braid.

Khitti blinked and looked up from her paperwork and eyed Elga for a moment before nodding, “Yeah, I’m Khitti. And you are…?” Hadn’t there been someone that was looking for her? Something Joan had said in a letter… Ever so carefully, the redhead pushed herself into a standing position, using the desk to lean on a bit. “Oh! Are you Elga? One of the other guildmembers mentioned you. I apologize for not being here. There’s been far too many emergencies of late in other guilds that’s kept me from Vailkrin.” Khitti motioned to the chair opposite of her for Elga to sit down in if she wished. “Joan said you were interested in the black tides. It’s not often someone comes to me specifically for that before touching on any of the other basic, necromantic arts. Unsurprisingly, many people come to the guild in order to learn how to raise the dead, so for you to be here for something entirely different is refreshing,” she said with a smirk.

Elga is delighted to have finally found the person of which she seeks, but the casual greetings of most places are far beneath the Venturilite spell blade. Instead, Elga takes a few steps into Khitti's office and raises a single fist to pound against her armored chest, just beneath the impact is where her heart beats - a salute of sorts, and done out of respect. "I am Elga." She nods to confirm the teachers words, and Joan's letter about her identity. "It's an honor to finally meet you." The human's voice might be surprising, for before Khitti stands a woman who might seem rough and ready to tumble, but her tone of voice is far too sing-song to match her appearance. When Khitti mentions the normal reasons for people to seek out the teachings of the guild, Elga casually shrugs. "I can't say I have much interest in raising the dead, to be honest. I have however, accidentally injured a sparring partner by enchanting a weapon with dark fire. Beyond that, I sometimes hear voices, in a state of concentration. Voices which claim to be long deceased. Regardless I thought it best to come and seek entrance here to learn how to control these things. Though admittedly, I prefer to sign up with the black tides as a major area of study." Finally, Elga moves to take up the offered seat and rests beside Khitti.

Khitti gave a nod to Elga’s salute. It was her own way of acknowledging it, for she was not quite as formal as most higher ranking members of a guild usually are. The other woman claimed it was an honor to meet her and Khitti could only blush. This was the type of attention people like her brother Lionel got. Sure she was a celebrity of sorts, but that was mostly just because of her band. She coughed a little, in an attempt to hide her awkwardness, as she seated herself again, listening to the potential new recruit, “Unfortunately, injuries of that sort are just something that happens. It happened to me quite often several years ago. I’d been a vampire then and, well, fire and undead don’t exactly mix well. But, that’s what I’m here for, to help people like you who are just starting out with this type of magic.” Khitti thought over the mention of Elga’s “voices”,” As for the voices, it sounds like you may be clairvoyant of a sort. While it’s not usually what one would say about hearing voices, but… listen to them. I would not act on anything, if they seem malevolent, but the dead hear everything. They’re always whispering. To each other. To people like you. Sometimes, they say a whole lot of nothing, but other times, it might be useful information.” The redhead stacked up her paperwork and pushed it to the side, shrugging a bit, “Joining with the black tides as your major is perfectly doable. The guild does like to have the newcomers familiarize themselves with the other three basic arts as well. Even if it is not something you end up being able to use at all, you’ll still have the information for times when you come up against someone else that might use it. The other three areas in the basic arts are basic summoning and resurrection, poison and potion-making, and arcane sigils, incantations, and curses. I think you might be able to find something out of each of them that can help you on whatever path you’ve placed yourself on. Your ability to hear spirits could come in handy with summoning. The other two are probably fairly obvious.”

Elga had responded formally because Khitti is in a position of respect. Those with a level of knowledge about a specific topic, who choose to teach it, deserve respect - no matter how famous Lionel is, Khitti herself deserves it too. However, the spell blade frowns when she learns of Khitti's own similar experience with dark fire. The knowledge that it is quite normal for accidents to occur does go a way to assuage her worries. As for learning the basics of the other arts, Elga nods. There is sound advice within the teacher's words. Even if the spell blade never accesses the other areas of magic, knowledge of them would help her facing off against it - should she ever need to do so. The thought of combining what Khitti has called clairvoyant with summoning had never occurred to her, and this news gives her some ideas. However, listening to the spirits? She wasn't sure that she was ready to go -that- far down the rabbit hole, yet. "I see." Elfa softly hums her response while mulling over all areas of study further. "Well then Khitti, how would I go about joining the guild?" Finally their conversation shifts into the direction of membership and how Elga might become one.

Khitti just smiled and shrugged, “All I have to do is fill out a bit of paperwork. It’s nothing major. I do not, however, have one of our copies of the Minor Book of the Dead on me at the moment. It’s the tome we give to new students and I have not gotten around to stocking up my office yet as you can see. Where do you find yourself lurking most often? I can have the book sent to you there. And if there are things you wish to study that you perhaps can’t find in that book, House Mahara--one of the vampire families here--are the keepers of the Black Library beneath Vailkrin’s cemetery. Many things in that place are restricted to new members, but there’s plenty that isn’t. Once you work your way up in the ranks, more paths will open up to you there.” Khitti scribbled down the directions to the library, as well as the directions to the headquarters beneath Vailkrin in the Avenue of the Guilds. It probably was not needed as much, but it wouldn’t hurt to have an extra place to study if Elga needed it. “I would advise you to take things a little slowly. A lot of our students are rather eager to move through everything swiftly, but I’d caution you against that with the black tides. It’s the most offensive of the magics, while others are usually things like throwing together a few herbs and liquids to make a potion or a ritual that’s supposed to be done without outside interference. Those are easily done, but the black tides must become an extension of yourself. It’s no different than a physical weapon. After you’ve looked over some of the material in the books and you’re ready, we’ll start your training.”

Elga thought that there might have been some unfathomable entrance examination, beyond just an explanation of her powers to test her skills with basic guild arts - she is absolutely relieved to know that such things aren't required and proffers a smile to Khitti. She is grateful that her lacking knowledge wouldn't be tested on some quiz and a trip to a training room. "I live in Venturil, for the most part, but have been traveling and staying in both Kelay and Vailkrin while looking for a teacher. Now that I have found a place to study, I will most likely be here, unless I get pulled away for other work." Elga simply slides past the fact that she also seeks to join the warriors guild, and if she joins, she might be away from time to time working for them; she needed to train both melee and magic. At this point Elga reaches forth to gather the directions produced by Khitti with a smile. "I'll try not to dive in too quickly." The information about the library is stored away for another time, when she was more comfortable with what she was doing. "Thank you for meeting with me Khitti, and I look forward to learning from you when the time comes." With all of the formalities out of the way, Elga extends her hand for a shake, if Khitti accepts such things. "I'll be sure to bring any questions about the black tides to you." If the teacher had no more to discuss, Elga would take her leave and go have something to drink. "Have a good evening."

Khitti || “Ah! The Warrior’s Guild headquarters is in northern Venturil, so we may run into each other there. I’m temporarily leading that for the time being, in addition to my own, the Devout’s Guild, while my brother Lionel is… uh…” Don’t say he blinked out of existence. Don’t say it. Nope. “While he’s away on business.” Yes. Good. Not wanting to delay the woman any further, Khitti stood again, and took hold of Elga’s hand with her own. “I do hope you find what you’re looking for here. It was lovely to meet you, Elga.” Retracting her appendage, she gave the guild’s new recruit a smile and let her be on her way.
