RP:Sveltran - Broken bones, and Studious pursuits

Please note the below RP is relatively unedited, please forgive my typos and grammatical issues!

Sveltrans eyes shot open as his body rocked to the floor. His left tibia, now broken and protruding from under his flesh up past his kneecap ground against the earth. He reached for the broken limb with his right hand….or tried to anyways before realizing with a not inconsiderable amount of pain that his right shoulder was dislocated. His jaw dropped open as he screamed into the cave “GAAAAAAH”. His body shook as every inch of it was paralyzed by the white-hot electric agony that coursed through him. In the same moment however, with his eyes locked open in misery, a blinding flash of light permeated the cavern. His projectile was gone. No crumbled rock, no debris….it just seemed to have just winked out of existence. This of course was lost on him as he curled into the fetal position, his blind gaze staring on as the runes on the door both rose and faded back from view. Panting vigorously, he shifted his eyes to his dysfunctional arm. Pressing himself slowly into a sitting position he picked up the dead weight with his other hand. Bracing his arm against the wall of the cavern he threw his full weight against it, snapping his shoulder back into socket with a sickening thud. The movement twisted his leg, sending his mind barreling through hell as he fought to remain conscious. Darkness blackened the edges of his vision as his stomach did somersaults. Leaning slightly to the side, he emptied the contents of his stomach onto the cavern floor in a bloody…and alcoholic pile. His vision became clear again moments later as he fought to concentrate on re-assembling his broken body. He quickly scanned the cavern around him, soon finding what he needed. Carefully as he could he slid himself backwards towards the jutting rocks, every inch feeling like another mile. Two stalagmites rose up next to each other nearly crossing at their base. He lifted his battered leg with his hands and carefully set it in the crook between the two stones. Pursing his lips into the shape of an “o” he braced his good leg against the bottom of one of the pillars and began breathing quickly in and out, his cheeks puffing with every breathe as he psyched himself up for the next task. Then he pushed… the broken bone sank down into the rent in his flesh as he squeezed his leg with his hands to get the bone back into the proper position. Once again, he lost consciousness.

If nothing else can be said for vampires, at least they are hearty creatures. Sveltran woke again in the cave, the pain of his endeavor considerably lessened as his supernatural healing had been hard at work. What was it that he had seen from the door? Looking around from his position on the cavern floor he noted everything appeared exactly as it did before. Carefully lifting his leg from between the stones he rested it against one of the stalagmites, lightly pushing against it to test how much healing had occurred while he slept. He winced slightly and sucked air between his teeth as a sharp sting reverberated through his leg. “how long have I been out?” he wondered silently to himself. Digging around in his pack he found his dousing rod. The simple tool had two long metal prongs that stretched down and then turned 90 degrees, coming together in a single longer rod at its base. Disappointed at the loss of his tool, he snapped the two prongs off the device. Shrugging off his coat, he grabbed the bottom of his shirt and lifted it over his head before tearing long strips from the fine cotton fabric. He wedged the prongs from his dowsing rod into either side of his boot, and tied the strips to his leg, one around the shin and one by his kneecap. It wasn’t a good splint, but it would have to do until his body could heal the break. Consuming a potion made from pine essence he pushed himself to a standing position. Once again, he took in the visage of the door in front of him, however this time with palpable distaste. If his wonder at the door had not been motivation enough, his misplaced anger at the thing would drive him to tearing the damned thing down molecule by molecule. Limping, he made his slowly out of the cavern. If it took a hundred years, he would find a way to break that abomination, but first he would need to collect more data.

Thump….scuff thump….scuff thump the sound of the disheveled vampire limping his way into the library was distracting. The studious scholars in the mages library scrutinized the wounded vampire who by all appearances had just gotten up from a three day bender in the mouth of an erupting volcano. His face was gaunt as his body had been burning through its energy stores healing the unintentionally self-inflicted wounds all over his body. The tips of his hair were lightly singed and matted to his head. His once spotless leather duster was caked in mud from the cavern floor and his chest was bare for all to see. The makeshift splint was barely hanging on for dear life at this point after his trek from the caverns down the mountain. With a would-be charismatic smile he winked at the nearest female mage, whos supple shape was not quite hidden by her robes, and boy was she curvy. The young mage scoffed and turned her gaze away, returning to her studies. The librarian quickly stood and rushed to block the vampires entry into the library. With one hand idly resting on the wand at his side he eyed the vampire suspiciously. “Sir, can I help you.”

Sveltran Raised is hands in a placating guesture and spoke in diplomatic tones. “Of course, my apologies good sir. My name is Sveltran, and ive had a hell of a day. As you can see..” he guestured to his torn up shirt wrapped around his makeshift splint “ im not in any condition to keep traveling. Im well known to the leaders of your order, so..” his tone suddenly shifted to one of authoritative reprimand, hoping his high charisma and the susceptibility of humans to his charms would pay off. “If you can kindly get me all the books you have on anti-magic theory and materials you have on magical defense structures I wont need to have you demoted to scrubbing the latrines with the novices”. His increased in tempo with each syllable until every caster in the library was either looking his way or hiding their heads in their books to keep from drawing his ire. No one liked scrubbing duty. Not having fully bought his tirade, but taking the cautious route the librarian waved one of his aides over to join them. The aide who joined them was young and obviously eager to please. He rushed over to the librarian as quickly as he could without running… his speed walker gait reminding Sveltran of an over excited puppy. “Yes sir? How can I help” the boyish man was obviously a teachers pet. Short cut blonde hair and a thin build coupled with the thick spectacles dangling from his nose let Sveltran know all he needed to about the apprentice librarian. The librarian whispered a list of texts to the young man who quickly scurried off. The librarians speculative gaze returned to the uncouth vampire. He stated in a somewhat scathing tone“You may sit in the back away from the students. You WILL respect the students here, the library and the texts you review. Do not give me reason to remove you.” The librarian let his hand fall away from his wand as he returned to the front desk, seating himself in a position where he could keep the vampire in sight.

Sveltran hobbled his way to the back of the library and plopped down onto a hard wooden chair and rested his elbows on the table. Soon the Librarians apprentice returned with multiple volumes, placing them carefully on the tables edge and nodding to the vampire respectfully before returning to his duties. Hours passed as Sveltran poured tirelessly over the books, turning page after page, quickly absorbing what information he could. He poured through book after book, discarding each to the opposite side of the table as he continued to discover very little in the way of relevant information. He read ancient histories of various battles, spellbooks containing various defensive magics including how to create barriers and manipulate harmful magic. He did not however find any information pertaining to a material that could nullify magic altogether as well as vaporize anything that touched it. With an exasperated sigh he placed the last book onto the discard pile. He took a moment then and removed the makeshift splint from his leg. Stretching it out under the table he found he was finally able to move it freely. Thank the gods for vampiric healing. Waving the apprentice librarian over again he asked, “What is your name apprentice?” The scholar looked him in the eye and stammered out “uh…Jacob my lord..” A wicked grin grew on Sveltrans face. “Jacob…I can see that you are a promising young mage. Your aura is astounding, and you have true potential even if these other mages cannot see it.” Jacobs chest puffed up a bit at the praise. So often Jacob had been overlooked for promotion in the order, but he never seemed to be good enough for the masters in the tower. “You see Jacob, the information I need may be difficult to find, as even in my advanced years ive yet to come across anything so….trifling. There is an object I need to know more about that completely nullifies all magic that comes near it. I am a researcher you see, and this expedition could be a part of one of the greatest discoveries of our time. If you can help me I will be sure you receive all due credit in your participation.” Jacobs eyes grew wide and a broad smile made its way onto his face. “Of course sir. Ive heard tale of many of our oldest texts having been recovered from the frozen library in the northern mountains. The way is dangerous, so most of our order is unable to venture there. I heard even the grand mages have had to retreat from the northern halls due to powerful monsters lingering there.”

A loud voice could be heard from the front desk “WHAT?!” The head librarian was glaring into the eyes of the young woman Sveltran has winked at earlier. While Sveltran had been studying, the young woman named Natalya had made her way to the mages tower. She had started an inquiry with the senior mages on previous interactions with a vampire named Sveltran. Of course upon checking the academy ledgers and speaking with the senior staff it became clear…Sveltran was not, and had never been a member of their order, and most certainly should not have access to their library following a small fire he may or may not have started on the Arch Mages front porch involving a parchment with fecal matter inside. Both the librarian and lady turned their gaze to him, the ire of the librarian apparent on his face. Sveltran looked at the librarian, then back to Jacob. “Gotta run!” With all his supernatural speed and a quickly cast “weak haste” spell he bolted out the door with a huge grin plastered on his face. It was time to pay a visit to Frostmaw.
