Summary: Pilar, Blut, and Celandine discover strange stones on the beach that give off heat, and try to get to the bottom of it.

Dami's Beach, Chartsend

The beach was crowded this evening. Not unusual for a summer day, but was unusual was the sheer volume of sea glass littering the sands. The small round jewels had drawn quite a bit of attention, with people inspecting and collecting them. Pilar had heard the talk and had joined the crowd late. As she drew nearer the beach, her eyes scanned for a place to grab a piece or two of the glass. She thought it might make a nice trinket for her housemates. She finally made it to the water's edge and knelt, picking up a piece of sea glass. Immediately, the hair on her arms and the back of her neck stood up. There was magic in these jewels.

Blut entered the beach dressed in cloth. He was disguised in his mage form as he sat down for a moment by the waters edge Blut gazed into the distance as he thought for a second about the future and what it may uphold. Bluts attention was quickly taken by these gems on the beach. As Blut picked one up he felt a odd sensation as it seemed a small electrical current formed around these gems. " Fascinating" Blut breathed out as Blut took out his journal to document the gem.

Pilar turned the sea glass over in her hand. It was a deep red, translucent, but visually unremarkable. Where had all these pieces come from, and what kind of magic did they hold? The wail of a child suddenly pierced the air, and Pilar looked for its source. Forgetting the glass, she made her way through the crowd, murmuring “excuse me” and “sorry” along the way. She stumbled upon a woman with her toddler in her arms, the toddler's hands burned on the palms. Frowning, Pilar pushed forward. “E-excuse me, ma'am? I'm a healer, may I look at your son's hands?” The woman looked to Pilar, concern etched across her face. “Yes, yes, of course!” Pilar gently took the child's hands in hers and studied them. Small, round burns were in the center of each palm. “First-degree, nothing serious. But... what caused it?” The woman pointed to a couple pieces of green sea-glass. “He was holding those when he dropped them and started crying.”

Blut held the stone in his hand as he looked at the various identical stones. Bluts head whiped towards the sounds of the crying child spotting him holding his hand. Blut looked at the stone takeing out his journal takeing a quick sketch of the stone. Blut shook his head as he found a isolated rock the man sighed at his own stupid idea. "Nothing ventured nothing gained" he whispered to himself as he threw the rock up and catching it before hurling it at the isolated rock. The rock broke makeing a small cracking sound but the rock itself was chared indicateing that heat was released. Blut marked his findings into his journal.

Pilar said to the mother, “Treat the burns like you would a sunburn. He'll be okay.” The mother thanked Pilar and headed home, while the vampire knelt by the offending glass. There was another cry, and a teenager started flailing at their pocket, from which smoke was escaping. “Ow ow ow ow ow!” they hissed as they pulled the glass from their shorts and threw it on the ground. There was a scorch mark on the pocket. One by one, people began to shout in alarm as the glass they picked up began to burn. Pilar felt the sudden heat in her hand and dropped the glass she'd forgotten she was holding. The beach-goers did much the same, emptying their pockets and walking briskly away from the offending jewels, leaving the beach nearly deserted.

Blut chuckled as he watched the chaos of the beach. He kneeled down to pick up a gem. He continued to write about it's properties as he cast a basic freeze spell hopeing to keep it under control. Blut scanned the sea for any signs of what could have left these stones.

Pilar blew on the newly-acquired burn on her hand. That really stung! Around her, the sea glass continued to let off heat, bringing the already-warm beach to a swelter. The ice around Blut's would start melting from the inside. Pilar, too, looked to the sea. Steam was rising from one particular spot, a few dozen feet out from the beach. Pilar had no idea what to do. There was obviously something amiss, but what could she do? Well, besides check it out. She looked down at herself. She really didn't want her clothes getting wet, but there was still that one guy out by the rocks, and she wasn't giving him a peep show. Removing her boots and placing them aside, she began to wade into the water.

Celandine cousin Charlie would not stop pestering Celandine to get out of Shezerade, or at least fly further out. Refusing to leave without her lyre, he led the flight. His wingspan being close to 18’ while hers only a 13’. His wings the reverse of her own, black that went into ombre white. Her own being an off white that faded into an ombre black, following behind him. Strumming along the lyre, spinning around as she sang out. Ignoring her cousin asking her to stop singing for once, she just couldn't help it. Her notes sung out with a open throat being her most powerful and resonant into echos along the open water. “Head under the water, you told me to breath for a while.” Then switching to more of a head voice being bright and piercing or thick and airy. Marking her a mezzo-soprano,because she´s gets the heavy lows and Soprano highs. Able to quickly change notes in mid word and hold her voice there. “breathing gets harder, even i know that. Made room for me.” Only to fly into her cousin, who hovered about the heat staring at the steam rising from the ocean. Quickly she placed her lyre safely away, following him in towards the beach. Gently landing as his deep roar like voice spoke out, “What did you two do to the sea?” Always jumping conclusions. He stood a 6’7 even, flooded in muscle threatening to flex out of his attire. Stepping out from behind Charlie stood the 6’2 and quarter avian female. Button shirt hanging open revealing a bikini top, showing her six pack abs to view. The top sleeveless showing the well toned arms, “Cousin..” She whispered, touching his arm blushing in embarrassment how he was so rude. Tucking the platinum blonde hair behind both her elongated elvish ears, looking to any that looked to her and waved shyly then wrapped herself up in her wings trying to make herself invisible.

Blut turned around to see the two avians but his attention quickly retured to his stone as the heat forced him to drop it. "Ah" he yelped quitely. Blut started to walk towards the avians he spoke in a calm and tender tone. "Excuse me you two but today may not be the best day to visit. See these red stones" Blut waved his hand motioning towards the rocks that littered the beach. "They release heat on contact so please don't pick them up." Blut warned and with a formal bow he turned to walk towards the sea. It was cloth sure but if that was the origin of these rocks he didn't want to approach it unprotected.

Pilar was waist deep into the water when that obnoxious avian accused them of doing something wrong. She narrowed her eyes at him, then turned back to the ocean. This was the first time she had blatantly ignored someone, and she felt a little bad for being rude, but there were more important things to worry about. Pilar continued until she was chest deep, then began to swim out toward the steam. Without even taking a breath, the vampire dove underneath the waves. A torrent of bubbles were rising from the sea floor, turning to steam as it hit the surface. Sea glass of all colors was gathered around the source, which was obscured from view. Pilar's feet touched the ground. The glass was warm to the touch, but not burning, probably thanks to the water. She walked closer, her hands out before her. She tapped into her magic and the water before her began to cool.

Charlie crossed his arms to blut, a stone cold look upon his face he was not amused by someone not avian freely talking to him. Charlie was the definition of arrogant arsehole, looking to Blut to the female already wading in the water. “Unless you want to be cooked, I wouldn't go out there. Do you not see the steam? The mean hot water, like boiling possibly. Anyways, I wouldn't touch something that was not from our city. I'd need to bathe after if it did.” He rolled his dark brown eyes, as Celandine dropped her wings from covering herself to bump her cousin. Offering a look to him, ‘chill’, “You being that way again, we talked about this Charlie.” Charlie turned to look at Celandine, “If they want to get in that water and boil it's on them. We will stay here and watch them cry out in pain, then maybe we will rescue then.” Celandine frowned at him, speaking out in a sing-song voice holding her emotion if disapproval to him. “You aren't being helpful.” She swallowed hard, looking back to the two, tilting her head in curiosity at the dark skinned female. Much like a parrot would when curious or seeing something they were interested in. Watching her swim off, which caused her to take off herself and watch from above looking down to see if she could spot her. Charlie followed after, “Just wait she will cook.” Celandine glanced at him, shaking her head more intent on watching to make sure she couldn't maybe try to help.

Blut ledt his bags and book on the beach as he took a step into the water as a light red vail started to cover his body. Mana threads countless numvers of them wrapped around him createing a think layer of air between him and the water leaveing him surprisingly dry. Blut started to swim towards the steaming center. He soon took a deep breath as dived into the water and the vail covered his head makeing everything look a very light shade of red. He soon noticed the vampire observing the rock. The man used his illusions to speak under the water "well I'll be, hey maybe we should get out of the water if there are fire elements in here who knows how many others are down here too." Blut warned as he floated above the sea floor waiting for the vampire to respond in any way before swimming back to the surface for another breath.

Pilar glanced to the man, listening to his words, then watching him go. She paused, then continued towards the source of the bubbles. It was getting hotter, but her cryomancy was keeping her safe and uncooked at the moment. She concentrated hard, pouring more magic into her spell, and the field of cool water spread out. The bubbles began to thin, revealing not a fire elemental, but a sunken rowboat. Within it was a chest, the lid thrown back and heat emanating from inside. Pilar tried to get closer, but even her minor cryomancy wasn't enough to protect her. She backed off and swam to the surface. She spat water from her mouth and headed to shore.

Celandine saw pilar rise up, and followed above her. Charlie following behind mumbling, he was not pleased to still be here. Once the two landed on the shore, he spoke. “Ah, didn't cook after all.” He smirked, placing large hands on his hips. The female looked upon them, rubbing her right arm, nervously speaking out. “If you two want to see it from “ She paused and pointed up, “I can take you.” Charlie choked on air, looking to her. “No we won't.” Celandine looked at him, giving him a heartbroken face, but looked back to Pilar and Blut, “We will, as an apology for Charles behavior.”

Blut swam back to the surface once his feet were on the sandy beach his threads started to unravel revealing he was completely dry. Blut panthed heavely for useing so much mana on the threads. The man raised his hand at the womans offer panthing before answering in a tired voice. "Appreciate the offer but I don't think there is much to see from the sky. Just more steam." Blut reasoned as his regained his composer and his heavy breathing stopped as he held a hand out createing a image of what he saw floating in the air like a hologram. Blut turned to Pilar "I think you went a little further what did you see and what do you make of this." Blut asked inquisitively as he went to retrive his bag and book.

Pilar walked onto the beach, her clothes and hair clinging to her body. She finally noticed Celandine and blushed. Hot babe alert! How did she not see her before? “Um... N-no thanks...” She looked Blut's way. “Uh... A sunken boat, with a chest in it... There was heat coming from the chest. I couldn't get close enough to see what was inside.”

Celandine looked down, putting her hands together as Charlie smirked. “See they don't need or want our help, finally drag you out of Schezerade and this happens. What bad luck. On way home, try not to sing or play that silly do-dad. I might toss it away if you do it again, I'm serious.” Celandine flushed at his words, the off white and ombre black wings dropping slightly. But her warm chestnut eyes caught Pilars wet, clothes clinging body. Swallowing hard as her heart pounded in her chest, her cheeks really blushed now. Ugh, she lived such a sheltered innocent life. Turning around quickly, only to lose her footing to fall flat on her back, not only hot babe alert but extreme klutz. Climbing to her feet taking off her shirt to dust off the sand, which Charlie caught on to his cousin's sudden embarrassment. He couldn't help but to laugh, “I'm okay. And that's okay..what type of chest?” She glanced at Pilar's only to smack her forehead in a facepalm. Clearing her throat, looking to Charlie as he stood there amused. “Did the chest have any writings? There is a legend of fire opals with the magic enchantment only activated by water and touch?”

Blut smacked his head and groaned aa if his missed the most obvious thing in the world. "Of course how could we be so blind. These rocks weren't always small. They chunked off from a larger crystal. Elementium normally used to forge elemental weapons." Blut swiftly flicked through his book finding a image and description of the crystals. "If the chest was opened when the ship capsized then its possible the crystal broke and shattered outwards to be carried by the waves. Resulting in what we see now." Blut explained as he chuckled looking back at the avian with a small but radiant smile "I'm sure these fire opals sound possible too. But it's also possible we are thinking of the same thing." Blut took a step back to look at the three infront of him. "So any suggestions on how to get it?" Blut asked with a small chuckle.

Pilar looked to Charlie, eyes narrowing. “Excuse me, but who are you to say she can't sing?” She couldn't stand mean people. She saw Celandine fall, and stepped toward her to offer a hand when the avian stood and... took her shirt off. Pilar looked away. She was a healer, she'd seen plenty of private bits, but still... She cleared her throat and looked to Blut. “Cryomancy. If we can cool the water enough to get to it, maybe we can shut that chest. It didn't seem affected by whatever was inside. Then we can get it to the Mage's Guild and they can handle it.”

Celandine beamed as Blut spoke to her, and made someone smile. She lived to entertain and bring joy to those around her, never could stand someone being sad or mad. Would do her best to turn anyone frown upside down, “Yes, it is very possible. The fire opals were once joining together as one, they grew in a desert in shape of a tree. But some adventures broke it into pieces and put them in…” she wouldn't say chest again, “storage boxes, and each ship went in a different direction which makes the sun shine in different places at different times. But this is just legend.” She held her hands together tightly making her arms flex as Pilar spoke to Charlie the way she did, who had at least laughed. “I listen to her sing everyday, every once a while i like to hear my own thoughts. She is the best singer in the family, writes children books in her city and donates them. You might heard of Virellio Books, she is the author.” Celandine looked to the ocean, not wanting then to see her face. Such a shy thing she was. placing her button up shirt back on, “The legend is a cute story though.”

Blut sighed as he looked at pilar "I don't think we can do it. My ice can't even hold one of these things for very long let alone that huge heat source." Blut sighed again as he looked at the avian with a sad smile. "Sorry but if things played out like you said why is it only now these rocks are on the beach." Blut asked "anyways if the chest can hold the item without burning then maybe we can seal it by just closeing it. We could use aeromancy to keep the water away from one of us as we close the chest." Blut reasoned looking closely at his image still floating in the air.

Pilar shrugged. “That boat looked new... Maybe someone recently came across one of them? There were no bodies, though, not even skeletons, so whoever was in that boat must have escaped alive,” Pilar reasoned. She gave Blut a funny look. “That's what I was just saying. Just cool the water so we can get close enough to close the chest. I don't know any aeromancy. Or hydromancy, for that matter. I'm not skilled enough in cryomancy to do it alone. I need either someone's help, or... or an extra source of magic.”

Celandine shrugged, “Something opened it? The lock wore off and for bumped open? The chest of each one is a insignia, I mean has insignia to hold in the sun. Also known as fire opals, I'm probably wrong. It's my first time out of Schezerade.” Charlie sighed, “I can't help, Celandine here only is a bard. Unless...her voice could be strong enough under water to move it. But might not be, she never tested voice waves before.”

Blut sighed as he looked at pilar and noded his head. "Alright then lets give it a shot." Blut answered as he turned to face the sea. Placeing his bag and book down as the threads once again started to cover his body. "But maybe we could use a head start." Blut questioned as he looked at the avians.

Pilar hummed. “Well, with less water to cool, it would be easier...” She looked to Celandine. “Are you willing to try? You absolutely don't have to if you don't want.”

Celandine rubbed her arms, “I'm not a strong swimmer, I can try i just don't want to let you all down. What exactly do you want me to do?” She slipped off the leather tights, revealing a matching bottom to the top showing off such strong legs that must not had an ounce of fat on them. Taking off the shirt, looking to Charlie who nods, “I'll take the sky level to make sure no other dangers approach.” She shook slightly, “If I make my voice strong enough I can maybe cause the chest to push the direction you want it. Would that work?”

Blut smiled as he took a step closer to the water. "That sounds great the less distance we have to travel the better. But when the water starts getting to hot for you start backing out." Blut explained as he turned back to her with a smile "don't worry about us just do your best and thats all we can ask for." Blut loomed at Pilar and with a smirk he asked "you ready?".

Pilar nodded. They had a plan. Good. “Miss... Celandine, was it? Just get it as close to us as you can. This gentleman here and I will do the rest.” To the gentleman in question, she said, “Ready.”

Celandine nods, and Charlie took flight above them. “I'm fly up to give myself a good dive down, once I see you stopped moving is when I'll come down. So start cooling the water..i rarey am stubborn so I will happily nice away.” Up se went to hover above the water waiting for the others to get in deep before she dropped herself from the sky down, deeper and deeper behind the sunk target. Wiggling her feet under some of the heavier ground, to hold herself there. ‘Okay Celandine, you can this this.’ With expanding her chest, opening her mouth wide to push out a medium voice to a high constant one soprano. Higher and higher she went opening her mouth and chest more to soon send a small clear ring out of her mouth when growing in distance grew in size making the chest rock back and forth. Soon it began to slide up towards the beach towards Blut and Pilar, luckily Celandine one of her genre was of opera. An angel of music.

Blut swam towards the chest not wearing his threads in order to conserve his mana. "On your signal" Blut announced as they swam. Blut swam in a akward one handed style keeping his left hand clenched shut. But if one were to notice they would see ice forming around his arm as he muttered the spell incantation multiple time in order to unleash a powerful burst on Pilars signal.

Pilar swam out next to Blut, wondering how she ended up in charge of this operation. As the boat slid across the ground, she watched it. When the water around them became hot, she cried, “Now!” She unleashed her magic, the water cooling rapidly with her and Blut's power. She allowed herself to sink and trudged through the water towards the chest. Between her and Blut, the water was cool enough for her to get close, and she grabbed the lid and closed the chest. She latched it, then lifted it and brought it to the beach. That vampire strength was a major boon, sometimes.

Celandine had run out of air and voice by time they captured the chest, using her wings to extra boost herself to the surface for air. Moving back under the water to launch herself out of the water, flying back to the beach where she landed on her knees and panting hard. Charlie right behind her then landed to her side, messing up her hair as he ruffled it up. “Good job little cuz, you actually have some use to those pipes then just singing.” Which made her toss up a handful of sand on him, laughing in a gentle way it could passed as a lulaby. Using Charlie to help her to her feet, still working on catching her breathing patterns back to normal.

Blut whistled at the sight of pilars strength "well your pretty strong. I suppose you've turned." Blut questioned as he picked up a rock in his left hand. Ice still covered it from the spell cast so any form of heat would be great for him. Ice still stuck to that arm and he could barely feel it.

Pilar glanced at Blut. “Turned...? Oh. Yes. A few years ago.” Pilar placed the chest on the sand and then went to Celandine. “Thank you, Miss.” She offered a hand for a handshake. “I'll report things to the authorities, make sure they clean everything up and get these stones to the Guild for safekeeping. If you're ever back in Chartsend, I'd be happy to treat you to lunch. For now, though, I... sort of need to dry off.”

Celandine placed her sandy hand in Pilar's shaking it, before she could answer Charlie did. "I'll make sure to pull her out of Schezerade long enough so she can." Celandine smiled and nods, "This my first time out of home, but you are a good reason to get out. I be curious to see if you all serve similar foods. We can do that sometime, Charlie is my guard if I am out of the city he comes along. But I am sure he will want to sit at a different table then us ladies." She glanced to Blut offering a grin then a smile to Pilar, "Thank you for making it exciting, I too need to go get clean from the sand."

Blut smirked when Celandine turned away. Blut walked away from the scene disappearing thanks to his illusions.
