RP:Recruiting A Researcher

From HollowWiki

Summary: Lanara and Scandal meet up for breakfast at the Fallen Star Inn and discuss the happenings in their lives, when Lana extends the offer to Scandal to join the Adventurer's Guild. The leader has a good feeling about the dragon and after further discussion he's promoted to the title of Researcher, and they talk about a possible future quest that the members can take in Venturil.

Lanara steps into the Fallen Star Inn and gives the barkeep a warm smile, as it had been some time since she last walked through those doors. To think she lived in Venturil at one point, too! Shrugging out of her sweater, she walks over to a vacant table and orders her favorite breakfast, oatmeal with berries. Placing her backpack on the chair next to her, she pulls a map from the pocket and spreads it neatly atop the table, eyeing it closely, as though surveying Lithrydel with new eyes. Her boot taps against the floorboards and she idly twirls a lock of her hair, her other hand trailing a line from Venturil to the Xalious area and she purses her lips as if deep in thought. Today she’s wearing thick leggings and a navy turtleneck, dressed a little too warm for the tepid climate, so it was likely that she had only arrived in town recently, likely from a colder area. Eventually the waitress places her juice and breakfast before her, and making certain not to spill on the map, she stirs some maple syrup into her oatmeal and begins to eat.

It had been exceptionally difficult for Scandal but he had managed it, at least an anthromorphic form of his dragon form, entering the tavern wearing a white turtle neck sweater and red brown soft pants, he wore no shoes as well dragon feet were not able to fit any shoe. His wings were folded against his back tightly heck even tied with the scarf he had been wearing, which was a bright violet. Even admist the loosness of the sweater his bodybuilder figure seemed to stretch it to the limits. Ordering oatmeal and with strawberries and blueberries, and of course a bit more brown sugar than one would expect, with an apple cider, scandal scanned and found a familiar face, of somone who was like a sister to him. He smiled, which revealed a mouth of sharp teeth and he quickly closed it, approaching the table he took a seat, perhaps lana's mischief tendencies rubbing off on him, "I assume the seat I am in was not taken." He said with his low but not too low voice, his tail sticking out of the back end of the chair. "How are you my closest friend it seems like it has been such a time since i saw you last."

Lanara peers up at someone sits at her table, the elf mildly annoyed, until she settles her gaze on the dragon that she considered a brother, and she smiles warmly. “Scandal! So good to see you! It’s funny how we always meet up here, and order the same breakfast. I’m so happy to see you, it’s been some time since our adventure in Enchantment. And our next stop is Frostmaw, right? I was just planning the best route that we can take, but I also was looking at this map because I’m a leader of an adventurer’s guild and I’m thinking we’ll make a real journey out of it. Kill two birds with one stone, you know?” Taking another bite of her oatmeal, she eyes the form he’s in and takes in his attire. He was always a sharp dresser! She would elaborate on the guild and on the quest for the items necessary to enchant his talisman if he were to ask, but for now she merely meets his gaze with a grin. “How have you been, Scandal? What have you been up to? I assume you received the letter from my sister… She has left the lands. I have been so bummed… It’s been over a month already. I just hope that when she returns it’s sooner rather than later, and that she’s all better.”

Scandal chuckles, "Likewise good to see you. Yeah I got this thing for strawberries now, so guilty as charged." He says the bowl of oatmeal is placed in front of him. Along with his apple cider. "Yeah, getting that flower was considerably more difficult than i think you let on." He chuckled. "Course I have a little of you left from the trip." He says brushing a couple of thin lines five in all that seemed to be more jagged near the edge of his bottom lip. "No hard feelings about that right?" Whatever the scars were from was obviously from something that happened on the trip perhaps she did it, or it was direct result of something. He takes a bite of the oatmeal, and says, "So yes Frostmaw, thats the next step and if you are now the leader of this guild, all the more resource at your disposal, aye, tell me a bit more about it." He smiled, he was very happy that she had managed to gain that, and it was definitly nice to see her happy, what with her sister having left the lands and all. "What have i been up to since our enchantment, thing, well, I been tracking down a myth here in venturil about a strange place, a castle with an odd wall in a canyon around here, legends say that it was old even during the time the legends concieved of it, and it had a curse on it, so I been trying to find it, as I think it might be related to the period of time before my hibernation." "Yes, i am very sorry I am going to miss her too, but at least you have this guild now, and I assuming your still with your new boyfriend?" He bites his lip though, "This appearance took me having to find some merchant to try to pay for a 48 hour transformation assistance, as of now, I um, I cannot return to my humanoid form, much less this form, I am only able to change size as a dragon now on my own."

Lanara winces as Scandal rubs the scars on his bottom lip, which were courtesy of the witch, no doubt. She hadn’t meant to be –that- aggressive, but being swallowed and all? Well, not many would take too kindly to such a thing. It was a self-defense tactic! Her expression softens, as she knew her friend would never lay a cruel hand on her, and she shakes her head, “No hard feelings, I promise.” His breakfast is delivered and she cracks a grin as she had gotten him into the oatmeal and berries, just like she had with Larz and his grandparents. The dragon asks about the guild, and her eyes light up, as she lowers her spoon and describes the adventurous group she’s leading. “Well. We take any and all promising adventures, near and far, all over the realm. Some are dangerous, some are rather simple. We do a bit of everything, from raiding tombs, exploring foreign lands, sailing the ocean, rescuing animals, and helping out others guilds, by either being a guide, or gathering items, that sort of thing. Basically we do a –ton- of research, by reading books or talking to locals in the area, and we follow those leads to the spot on the map, to either uncover a myth, find fame and fortune, or just for the thrill of the adventure.” A pause, as she shrugs her slender shoulders, and sips her orange juice. “I’ve always suffered from wanderlust, and when I’m not working at the animal sanctuary or giving a dance class, I enjoy getting away and just exploring new territory and making new friends. Plus, I don’t really have any family, and my sister is away from the lands. So the guild is my family.” A long pause, as she lifts her gaze to look into Scandal’s eyes, as though considering extending an invitation. “If you’d like to be a part of the guild… We’d be happy to have you, Scandal. I trust you and you’d be a valuable asset. Hell, you could even be our lead researcher as I know you have a fondness for that sort of thing. What do you say?” She waits for his answer, before continuing, “Yes, Larz and I are still a couple, we’ve been house hunting, ourselves. And we should check out that lead in Venturil, sometime. I love exploring castles!”

Scandal noticed her wince, she had been safe once inside, even though her panick had lasted a while before she calmed down at least from what he remembered, and then for a brief time before her sister and zahrani showed it felt strangely comfortable, and he wondered if she thought the same. Of course, thats what started his whole strawberry cravings. If anything that scar would be a nice memory if the action never happened again. "Adventures, tomb raidings, foreign lands, my my my, sounds like me all over," He says cracking a smile exposing the dark blue interior of his mouth, he drank some of his apple cider. "I like considering you family." He said, "I would be delighted to join, and as a researcher I love hitting the books." He said stretching his smile. "Well if your interested I plan on exploring it as soon as I get an idea on its location, the legend made a reference to a brook that had a reddish tint, I have a hunch thats somewhere that would have a large iron deposit nearby, so I am going to try to pinpoint where that would be." He continued to eat his oatmeal, listening to anything else she wanted to talk about. He was really open to anything she wanted to talk about, "You should introduce me to Larz, I love to meet the man, especially one who has captured the heart of someone l think of as a sister."

Lanara finishes up the remainder of her oatmeal, delighted that the waitress gave her some extra blueberries and strawberries. This was an elf that loved to eat healthy, as was often having second helpings of vegetables and fruits, and not really the biggest fan of proteins. She was also known to have a sweet tooth, and often baked cookies for her close friends around the holidays. She watches as Scandal pours an unhealthy amount of syrup into his oatmeal and she cracks a smirk. Well, he was a dragon. It was probably a lot easier for him to burn off calories flying and transforming, that it was for her with her dancing and climbing the treetops. Sipping at her juice, she lowers the glass to the table as her offer is accepted, and her warm smile is very telling. She was delighted that Scandal would be a member of the Adventurer’s Guild. “Perfect! It’s settled then, you will be our lead researched of the guild. And as soon as you find this red tinged brook, you let me know. Maybe we can explore it together, and I can pull in a few of the others to come along, as well. It’s important that we all meet up and learn to trust one another, as we’ll be spending a lot of time together. Here is a key to our meeting room, there’s an extensive library in there… Maybe you can find something useful.” Reaching into her satchel she procures a silver key, which she slides across the table for him to grasp, along with a scrap of paper which has the coordinates to their secret meeting place in Xalious. Lana’s breakfast was almost complete, as she sips the remainder of her juice and nibbles on a banana, a faint blush gracing her high cheekbones as Scandal mentions meeting Largakh. “Yes, you two will have to meet, soon. Larz is a wonderful man… He’s a half-orc of elven descent, and he works as a security guard in Gualon. I think you will get along great, but maybe we should leave out the whole fact that you swallowed me. He may not like the idea of a dragon scooping me up, even if it was to save my life.” She smirks, tucking her hair behind her tapered ears. “We should do dinner sometime, the three of us. Or maybe you can bring a long a lady, and make it a double date? Are you seeing anyone these days?”

Scandal ate his oatmeal as he listened, his eyes holding her gaze when they met his, as she passed him the keys he nodded, "I will let you know as soon as I find that brook." He listens about some details about Largakh, and of course says, "Sounds like an interesting fellow, and yes I will refrain from telling him about that experience." He nodded in the idea of a dinner, "I can cook, so if Larz and you are looking for a home cooked meal, I know a good gumbo and also a good chilli, I also know that just up the road from here towards fengoth is small trader in smellale, and if your ever up to it, it'll take some time, but I do know how to make some good dried sausage." He apologized if she was more of vegetarian, “Sorry I am a guilty carnivore, though I do enjoy eating cookie dough whenever I get the chance." He sighed, "I do not have anyone as of the moment, I am still looking haven't given up yet, but if and when I start, you'll be the first to know. Also for the guild, will there be an extra room in the library, I been dabbling into my breath power, and found I can make all kinds of different mixtures, with different reactions, maybe some of them could be useful for the guild."

Lanara nods in response to the home cooked meal, as she was certain Larz would enjoy meeting another one of her friends over dinner. Chili sounded great! “That would be wonderful. Perhaps we could meet up sometime in the next week or so? I’m not sure what Larz’s schedule is at work, but we are mostly free on the weekends. And yes, I will eat meat. I’m not a vegetarian, though I don’t eat meat very often. I’ll make an exception for you.” Grinning from ear to ear, she pays the tab for both of their breakfasts, folds up her map, and slowly begins to pack up her belongings. She had quite a few errands to run while the sun was still up and a lot of ground to cover. It was nice to have shared breakfast with someone she considered family, though, and she rests her hand on Scandal’s shoulder. “Hm… Perhaps we could one day build an extension, but for now there’s not an extra room. We are near Xalious and Sage Forest though… Perhaps we can find you a vacant place near there, so you can try out your breath power? I must really be going, but we’ll get together soon, Scandal. I promise!” Patting his arm, she slips the straps of her backpack over her shoulders, and prepares to leave.

Scandal smiled at the chance to make food, for Lana. And while a little downcast, about the lack of an extra room, he only smiled, and accepted it. Waving as she soon leaves, he picks at one of the strawberries and holds it up as she leaves. "Makes sense," he says and pops it into his mouth. He finishes his meal quitely and when he leaves he unrolls a map, and uses his wings to carry himself up to get a view of the land, he'd find that brook, yet, as that was the spirit of adventure.
