The Ravine

The once bustling and proud Fish Market no longer exists to the world in Rynvale any longer. In its place the scar in the land, already dubbed 'the ravine' by the citizenry, now resides where the market once was. Waters lap at the harsh edges of the mark upon the land, and it all seems peaceful. But even casual inspection would reveal that the land is not the only victim here. Blood stains the streets up north in the shopping district. The smell of smoke and ash floats around the area still. The men building the wall from the very bricks of the buildings that faced the Fish Market is not just for show. Rynvale is at war, and this place marked a terrible first skirmish in a bloody history written. Ranok stands at the edge of it all, the edge of the ravine itself, duster in the wind. Men and women hurry here and there, soldiers or builders, and every once in awhile, someone hands him a message or missive to be read. His little 'vacation' in the tavern had already put him behind on things going on in Rynvale.

Awne followed after the giant of a human, looking around the city with a frown. She remembered when the fold had attempted to create a fleet to fight, the people, the fun she'd had, and the ultimate leaving of it. Sighing again she continued after him, staring at his back.

Awne had to stop herself from coliding into his back when he suddenly stopped moving, blinking she moves around him and stares, her exprestion shock, how could it looks like this? she remembered the fish market from when she had been trying to find her first home this...she had no words, how could it be like this? How long had it been like this? The movement of a runner with a message caught her attention, turning to the giant, eyes watering at the horror of the earth, it wouldn't always look like this, part of her mind supplied, given time it would look better but...when would that be? decades from now?

Ranok extends a hand to the ravine, "Look upon my vorks, ye mighty, und despair." Not one trace of pleasure was in his voice. Not a single bit. The movement, too, revealed something that had been unseen. Chemical burns on his skin around his neck and wrists. All around, the stone looked softened, too, as if bathed in acid. And it had been. Ranok turns to Awne, "Dis kity vill karry dis scar for hall time. It vill schtund as a symbol uf de schtruggle against de Parasite, surviff or fall. Ve are at var, Avne. Vun hundred und fifty tree men und vomen gaff der lives to hold dis line. Kivilians, too, vere killed. Ve're schtill findink bodies, even four days after."

Awne 's gaze stayed on the arm and the burns, had he even tried to have them healed? could they not be healed? what had caused them? she dragged her gaze from them to the scar on the earth again, silent for a few moments longr "I'm not a fighterr Sirr Rranok, I've no clan, I barrely know how to fight..." she says softly, then turns back to him "What arre you asking forr?"

Ranok ignores the scrutiny on the burns about his body, gesturing to the wall in construction, "Var hain't von by de men karryink svords. Every pair uf hends helps. Var tears down. Dat iz a given. But if no vun iz to build, vat iz it for?" His mouth forms a grim line, "Hy don' chust need fighters. Hy need healers, too. Ve hef healers in De Fold, und doctors too. But dere are tree hundred und fifty odd men vo karry chemical burns, vounds, und hurts. Hy don' hef de healink knowledge to direck, und every healink hends ve hef means doze men recover faster und kan be used again."

Awne frowns faintly, looking out over the people working "I've neverr said I wouldn't heal, my doorr has always been open to those in need..." she glances to his arm again, frowning "But those burrns arre new...I do not know what would heal them unless I have someone test on..." she frowns deeper and looks out to the ravine "You just had to ask forr help Sirr Rranok, not go to such lengths.."

Ranok looks slightly angrier, "Vat, hyu tink Hy hed dis karved out into de lund? Chust to make a point? No. Vat kaused dis vas a kounter maneuver to helt invadink forces. Not my own. But ve're makink de best uf it." He calms down, returning to the same neutrality as before, "Var iz hell. Dat iz de beginnink und de endink. Vould Hy turn my svord into a plowshere if Hy hed assurance dat it vould never need be dravn again." He exhales, not quite a sigh but close enough to one, "Tree hundred und fifty men, plus kivilians, Avne. Hy kannot simply put dem onto a boat und schip dem to Kelay to be treated. De healers must kome here. De builders must kome here, as de men vo veesh to fight must kome. Keturah hes left, Avne. Dere iz no head healer. Hy vanted to ask Gven, but...Hy hefn' seen her yet. Ve need tvo major healers. Vun for de klinic, to help de kivilians. Und vun in De Fold to direck de healink uf soldiers."

Awne frowns at him, narrowing her gaze "I wasn't saying you did this, I was saying you didn't have to brring me herre, you need only ask forr help..." she mutters the last and sighs turning away from the scene to take a seat on the ground "I'll help, Therre's Arrien so no one to get in an confrrentations with at least." she grumbles and motions to him "Sit, if I'm going to trreat people with those burrns than I need to know what worrks so sit down and rrelax." she holds her hands out "And give me yourr arrm." Her tail flicks lightly, determination in her gaze, she wouldn't leave people to die if she could do something, even if Arien had asked, granted it would have taken some convinsing, she would have come to help.

Ranok flexes his hand momentarily, "It vas necessary. It's easy to lost focus, zumtimes, Avne. Hearink lives lost iz horrible. Makes hyu feel bad. But no matter vat, zumtimes hyu need to see vat it iz. See vat hes been done. Remind youself: dis iz vy Hy fight." He looks down at his hand, his left one, which could clasp sword or hammer as any artist could his brush. Regret does not grace his features. He'd settled any problems with what he was long before. "Hy know vat deed dis, Avne. It vas aceed rain, dropped by a vraith. Hy'm fine. Dese burns are superficial. Dere are more men in need uf assistance den me. Saff you energy for dem."

Awne doesn't move only narrows her gaze more "Sit. down. Now." she growls out "You want me to help them you will sit yourr butt down and give me yourr arrm." her ears lower back against her hair, gaze sharpening to slits in a glare at him "Now. Sit."

Ranok regards Awne silently for a minute. Thins his eyes, and then rolls them. "Fine." He offers her his arm as demanded.

Awne smiled faintly in triumph and took his arm, looking over the wounds with a hum on her lips, she leaned close and sniffed at the wounds; interesting really, she'd never seen wounds like this before, her hands glow then her eyes following suit as she sends her energy into the arm to seek out the damage done, her sight following to see the damage for herself, the way the skin had burned how the muscles had burned...it was rather fasinating. Humming again the glow shifts from a soft white to a pale blue as healing energy moves in, starting with the muscles to revitalise and heal the burnt and dead bits.

Ranok wasn't even severely hurt to begin with, the burns merely where the rain had soaked into the joints of his armor, to touch skin and corrode it. Hence why he hadn't sought treatment in the first place, to mention nothing of his rather strange healing progress, the burns well on their way to wellness. He endures, and when Awne seems to be done, he asks, rather pointedly, "Are ve fineeshed?"

Ranok silently withdraws his wrist, "Dere iz a field hospital by de temple up north. Hy kan lead hyu dere und schow hyu vo's in charge, so hyu kan get to vork. Iz dat goot?" Awne nods her head "Aye, best to get starrted now...I will need to rreturrn home in the evening, I'd lik to get as much done now as I can."

Ranok nods and return and brushes himself off, giving a last few directions to the men around him, and strides forth to show Awne to the field hospital.
