Summary: Sabrina helps Susie move up in the world!

House of Ara; Rebuilt

The primary floor of the House of Ara was completely demolished so a newer, larger, and sturdier floorplan could take its place. Upon entering the building through heavy double doors, you will find yourself standing on oceanic-blue marble floors. The walls are white, backlit by mahogany trim. There is a receptionist desk, manned by a small Elvish girl with stark white hair and very pale skin named Mei. She will be able to direct you to the lavish patient rooms that are located up twisting staircase, the kitchens down the North corridor, the surgical facilities to the east or the teaching clinic to the west. The ceilings are high and the acoustics pick up the click-clack of your heels as you make your way to Mei. The Guild Tutor, Mr.Fennigan would be more than happy to serve as your escort, or fetch a wheelchair and a medic should there be cause for one.

Sabrina sat at her desk, reviewing far fewer forms than she had expected but with no less intent on being thorough. While the desk was neat by anyone’s standards it was far messier than it was usually kept, with a pile of herb pouches, a small box that looked quite important, and three stacks of applications that were currently being gone through. The entire house is relatively quiet, though not for lack of students and staff. They seem to be in a sort of shock after their Healer’s sudden arrival after such a long hiatus.

Brennia was in her getup as Susie, a simple human healer with pale skin, dark brown hair and heavy lidded teal colored eyes as this was the only thing her tonics weren’t able to change. She wore just enough perfume to mask the avian scent, but not offend and those large midnight wings are hidden away by the enchanted ink on her back. Maybe there have been whispers of this amatuer healer who seems to be able to control or calm even the most unruly of patients, ‘Susie the soother’ they call her. No one has yet to discover that it’s the leader of the bard’s guild and she’s using her calming spellsongs under audible level. She was summoned to see someone in the leader’s office, this has not happened yet and she assumed it was Emilia, but once she wandered in and saw Sabrina her smile remained. She met the woman once, it wasn’t well accepted, but Brennia entirely understood at the time - still does. A sort of calm and shy voice greets the leader, “merry me- Greetings!” She stands before the desk and holds her hands together in front of her, “I am Susie.”

Sabrina looks up from her work with a flat tone. “Yes, I suppose you would be.” A short exchange of paperwork brought her presumably to Susie’s file. Her guess had been that Emilia filed it as it lacked basic profile information, such as everything. It was literally a sheet with ‘Susie’ written upon it next to the word ‘Novice.’ After a judgy once-over the Elfess begins to fill in the empty slots. “Human.” Was not a question, anything beyond that was far beyond Sabrina’s immediate observation. “Female… obviously.” Tap, tap, tap. The end of her quill graces the deep wood finish of her desktop. “Can you read?” Tone would convince poor Susie that the Master Healer expected a firm No.

Brennia didn’t even look down at what Sabrina was doing, eyes fixed on the top of the woman’s head and the smile remains. Yes, human - for now! Yes, female - that may be the only thing true on there. She smoothed some fly away hairs to her scalp as her hair was pulled up into a neat, tight bun, her apron dirty or bloody from the day’s work. Standing there being judged by the leader, perfectly understandable. The question was answered immediately, “yes, Master healer, Sabrina.” Crap, did she even introduce herself yet? Surely she was known here and that little second slip up goes unnoticed. Her hands smooth her apron/healer’s outfit and fold back together in front of her. Someone walked bye and greeted both of them by name in passing, but all Susie did was smile over shoulder at them.

Sabrina responds to her answer with an arched brow. Already she was far better than the last three who stood before her. “Right… and your methods?” It was a house secret, that if anyone was about to demonstrate arcane healing in the presence of the House leader, they should give her enough warning to exercise proper cautions. Sabrina did not greet the passerby, but she did take in notice that Brennia exercised the good manner in doing so. “Can you cure a mortal wound?” Her accent was heavy, but not like she didn’t know the words, just that she didn’t speak often. She rises from her seat and moves to a series of small cages lined up against the back wall. Bending down she opens one and retrieves a healthy white rabbit. She is cradling it in her arms when she returns, propping her bottom upon the desk and stroking it absentmindedly.

Brennia gives a nod, “basic. Using sutures, salves, potions and balms. Some diagnostics,” she felt like padding a bit and threw in, “sometimes I hum to some frantic patients and it seems to calm them enough so the procedure can continue. Sometimes you can’t saws a guy’s leg off if they are flailing,” it was said with a touch of sarcasm because it usually doesn’t have to come to that and she hopes it was seen as a joke. She thinks back to Kanna, she was in a bad spot with gashed down her back, “yes. I have,” she said matter-of-factly. Brennia thinks nothing of Sabrina getting a rabbit out of the gaze except that she maybe wants to pet it too, but… Focus. Sabrina was a hard one to read - was she going to eat the thing or just pet it? Brennia has a good enough mind that she doesn’t express such desires or concerned through body language. A glance down and she noticed a caramel skin colored spot was decorating the top of her hand, but cooly switched which hand was folded over the other to cover it up… Damnit, when did that happen? Maybe it will be marked off as a mole, birthmark, or really large freckle?

Sabrina found the woman to be calm and collective, not so much as an inquisitive brow when the bunny was lofted and presumably coddled. Fluffy is taken up, murmured to, and subsequently broken at the hip joint! With no warning the Elfess tosses the thrashing animal at Susie’s feet, its back legs sharp with claw randomly darting out in unnatural form like it was trying to flip itself over to no avail. If Sabrina was emotional about the situation she did not let on. Short front legs pulled and stretched in an attempt to flee, but it would not go far in its shocked state. The elfess crosses her arms and reclaims her semi-seated position, if she needed to tell the girl of the task at hand then that would be the end of it. She was looking for what all have lacked. Initiative, knowledge under stress, action.

Brennia is an old soul. She’s starred evil in the face and smashed a deity’s artifact (just recently, too!) She knows Sabrina is not evil and when she’d boken the bunnie’s hip Brennia swallowed hard and quirked a brow because it was still surprising. Without asking any questions she crouched down to the bunny and knelt down on the floor next to it while her bardic magic works on soothing the animal. That was the easy part and it stops trying to flee, but flinches and breathed rapidly in pain. She didn’t want to move the animal to the desk for fear of causing more harm than necessary so she pulled out an herb for the rabbit to gnaw on, concentrated; this plant works as a decent pain reliever, but in the organic state it is subtle and just enough for the bunny. She took out a clean rag from on of the pockets in her apron and laid it next to the rabbit, pulled out a few tongue depressors and bandages with pins. Her movements where fluid and not overly rushed - that’s where mistakes happen. She gently held the leg on the side where the hip was broken and flicked to find where the more primary bones are and then she gently pressed where the hip was. What Brennia did next may not be heard by the elf, but her timbre lowered to the frequency of which the rabbit exists and felt where the break was in order to concentrate her melody of healing while applying a homemade stint with the tongue depressors and bandages. Her song works better now the rabbit won’t be able to undo her work. The bunny lays calmly on the floor - nearly asleep from the soothing melody and ‘Susie’ takes a deep breath and sits on her feet.

Sabrina watched intently, the knowledge was there, and the expertise to remain calm during the whole of the ordeal. It must’ve been to her satisfaction because by the time Susie had sat back on her feet the Master Healer had twisted back towards the desk to retrieve a small pouch. There is a short sucking of air between her teeth before the item is tossed at the woman with no real warning. “You are not a novice.” She fully uprights and reclaims the profile packet from her desk. “Adeptus Minor.” She would leave the magic portion out until she was confident this Susie even realized the talent was present. “You will report to Counselman Thamalys for any further promotions in Guild Status, but I suspect he will take no longer than a couple of months in a case such as yours.” The Elfess knelt down to reclaim the calm animal and after only appearing to touch it for the better half of a minute the stint is removed and the creature walked calmly to be returned to its cage, tired but no longer shaken, and in full repair. “You may now take on an underling and bring people into the Guild and our stores are open to your use as you see fit. You will act as a representative of the Guild and further your studies under Master Healer Bregathian at your leisure.” She returns to her seat and takes files Susie’s packet in her drawer as complete. “Any questions?”

Brennia did not expect this, sure she’s done some rather innovative things as a bard healer, but she wasn’t even trying to succeed here, just remain hidden from the Flewminati. She caught the pouch, maybe a spot more of her real skin tone showing and her hands quickly slipped into the pockets of her apron. A warm smile returns as she picks the other items up she dropped for the quickfire healing session and stood up. Brennia was happy for little simple Susie and things kept looking up in the dark times under Kahran. She knows short and to the point is sometimes best and Sabrina had a lot to come back to, “thank you Master Healer Sabrina.” She bows her head and receives her instructions with a pleased, but not arrogant expression on her face and Sabrina’s last question is simply answered, “No Master Healer Sabrina.” A polite pause, “anything else I may assist with?” She would wait for any other tasks assigned to her before moving on.

Sabrina opens her mouth to speak, but quickly clamps it shut as it was likely nothing nice anyways. Best not frighten the girl during their first encounter. She gives a short shake of her head and her attention is otherwise diverted to the papers before her, just as when Susie walked in. The skin tone would go unnoticed, as well as the other hidden idiosyncrasies. Mei approaches from behind Susie. “There will be no dismissal, she expects you to leave when she is no longer speaking to you.” A cautious yet tiny hand wraps around Susie’s elbow and turns her towards the stairs. “If you require a bed, its up the stairs and to the left.” And a little secret to part with. “If you go ALL the way down the hall, you usually don’t have to share a room.”

Brennia would still be kind to Sabrina, regardless and could totally take criticisms or insults. As someone who was running for Senator of Schezerade she quickly learned that sometimes you had to be cold - you had to be stern, it’s what comes with being a strong woman in power. Maybe one day Sabrina will get curious about simple Susie, especially when she wins her city back, but she will never forget the healer’s guild. Mei is smiled at too, “yes, I see.” She goes out with Mei and calls back, “see you around Master Healer Sabrina.” A wide smile and then she’s gone. Mei is clueing her into all the ins and outs of the guild, “really? Huh,” she said with an impressed nod.
