RP:Makeeda agrees to be Ranok's apprentice

Harbor

The ship rocks pleasantly into the harbor the steel line of its anchor creaking as its metallic surface reflect the dazzling light of the sun. Passengers and crew pile out of the ship as crates and barrels are rolled down the ramps and lifted by cranes by the crew on the harbor. The cool salty sea air of Cenril fills your nostrils as you wearily disembark the ship, thinking about possibly taking a swim, but also the thought crossing your mind if you would ever get onboard for such a long journey again especially with a crew that drink on the job.

Ranok strools through the streets of Cenril, heading in from Kelay. He wasn't at the docks, not yet. But he was heading that way. He was dressed as he always was, the white armor plating peeking through the unbuttoned duster, which billows fully and dramatically every where the man walks. He stopped at a street vendor to pick up some sort of sweet baked good. The smell was really heavenly. It seems that even Ranok can't resist the allure of a sticky bun now and again. Through the setting sun, he moves. While with purpose, at an unharried pace. He wasn't in a hurry to get where he wanted to go, it seems.

Makeeda wandered about as she always had and always will, but today she had her own purpose- to get to her home, well the place she was staying. Oddly, she never stayed there; it was not the fact that she did not like the luxury of not sleeping in a tree or a dirty tavern's many rooms- the person of whom she was staying with was just quite rude to say the least. Unfortunately due to her lack of contact with the housing it was quite easy for her to get lost. So there she was, walking from beach to water to docking area. Halted did she as the divine smell wafted to her nasal cavity. It was no secret that the woman enjoyed pastries- especially that of the fresh variety. As the food was placed in her hand and she stepped onto her merry way a figure was in her way- a figure she was too occupied to notice as she wandered forward. If Ranok was lucky he would detect a being coming up from behind him; if not a vampire would run into him.

Ranok was about to nom into the heavenly pastry when a now familiar pair of footsteps just before a just as familiar figure bumps into him. Taking a bite of the sticky bun, he says with an entirely unnecessarily difficult to understand bunch of words, " 'iz Makeeda. Ve must sctop meetink like dis."

Makeeda peers up at Ranok, watching his sticky bun as she pulls apart her crisp loaf of herb bread. A brow was raised, a giggle parting as the chain of words were incoherent," Ah, Ranok. How odd for me to run into you constantly in the most peculiar situation." A hand gestures to his sticky bun," Perhaps you should not eat food while you speak?" Finally the chunk of carbohydrate is popped into her mouth and chewed.

Ranok replies in a way that was entirely illegible. He chews on his heavenly goodness, and then swallows, speaking clearly then, "Hyu hef obviously not partaken uf de delicious nature uf de schticky bun, hm? If hyu knev chust how tasty, hyu'd probably schpeak vith you mouth full." Another bite to underline his point. And then the man would be moving away from the line that he and Makeeda were blocking, where he'd wait to see if Makeeda would follow or drift on her way again.

Makeeda follows of course; it would be rude for her to just walk away with just a greeting in the air," I will keep that in mind, trying one some time." A bite of her own treat is taken, and swallowed quickly," I do not need to eat actual food, so what may seem tasty to you could very well just be okay tasting to me. May haps all my taste buds are dead? I would not blame them if they died on me." The rest of her bread was handed to her pet of which was forgotten to be mentioned. A very tiny pup of a panda crawls out from underneath her top hat, taking the rest of the food and sneaking back under. Whatever it was did not wish to stick around; Makeeda gives an explanation of her red panda anyways," His name is Quennel. A shady looking man was selling some animals in an alley. I think it's pre-mature or mutated."

Ranok peers at the hat from whence the red panda emerged, "It must be onusual, to hef an animal like dat sittink on you head. How does he manage to not knock uff you het?" In the mean time of such questioning, the stick bun was swiftly and mercilessly decimated.

Makeeda shakes her head, a brow raising; as if this situation was normal to her," Not at all. It makes my head quite warm. No-no. Its barely able to poke its head out from underneath it. Fortunately he does not move around enough for my hat ever go falling. Besides Quennel occasionally poking its face out, I bet you would never have noticed him before now." She halts for a brief moment, lifting hat and plucking off the animal from her head. Then her tresses of black are shaked out, a small shower of crumbs sprinkling to the ground. Her pet it replaced on her head, likewise the hat. Makeeda then continues following Ranok.

Ranok can't help but be amused. A small chuckle escapes him, a rarity, "Hyu are a piece uf vork, Makeeda." Sticky fingers are slurped in turn without any regards to politeness, "So, den, vere vere hyu gun before hyu bumped into me vunce more, Makeeda? Hyu're alvays a voman on a mission uf her own." Feet carry the man forward at a slightly reduced pace to allow Makeeda to keep up, heading ever towards the docks of the city.

Makeeda tips her hat," Ah, thank you Sir Dezro- I like to think I am a piece of something." Does not mind him slurping his fingers, in fact, its goes quite unnoticed," I was going to return my uh…key to my um," clan mate almost slipped out but with a quick tongue she lets out a smile and rubs her hands together," friend of which is not one no more. I have gotten lost unfortunately, not like I mind. You must understand that I have no hurry to give back a gift given to me, even if it lays unused." A pause breaks her linkage of words, her eyes turning a blazing gaze upon the man," Where are you going? I could say likewise that you seem to always be on a mission of a sort. I never know can guess what though."

Ranok lays a hand on his chest, "Hy really em alvays on a mission. Noddink in dis life iz viddout purpose. Precious liddle to be vasted. Even ven so much time hes been burnt to kinders already." It wasn't quite the truth. But damn near close. That hand that lay upon his chest is removed, going instead to a pocket, "Lost, eh? But den hyu found me. Does dat schtill konstitute as 'lost'? Or vould it be 'repurposed'? Hyu seem to enjoy schtalkink me, vun vay or anodder." The man looks a little serious, at that. Makeeda did really seem to turn up wherever he was going at the moment. He wasn't attributing it to sinister nature, not yet. Though the coincidences were filed away in that massive store of information that was his memory.

Makeeda shakes her head," Tsk tsk, you have not answered my question- this is not a question you ever answer, I should of figured. Alas!- I can say I tried." The hat on her head rustles a bit, and is bopped on the top to make it stay still," You believe I am stalking you? Quite the silly idea I must say, Sir Dezro. But if this is what you believe," a dramatic voice takes over her normal soft voice," Then I can only admit that I am solely here just to follow you around and watch you eat sticky buns." This was not the best joke to be made; Ranok being quite the serious man, but she beamed up at him through it, adding a giggle at the end as her hat tilts to the side.

Ranok points at the docks coming into view, "Hy hain't accustomed to informink odders uf my business. But, Hy em gunna Rynvale. A schort passage over de ocean, und den uff to de vorkshop Hy hef dere." He shakes his head slightly at her jest. "Hy'm afraeed dat schticky bun time iz over. Hy make it not a hebit to visit every time Hy pass. Temptations und hall uf dat. If hyu're gunna keep followink me, hyu'll hef qvite a vays to go."

Makeeda shrugs and lets out an agitated sigh," Seeing as I have nothing else to do, I could come with- if you do not mind. With you I can not tell if you are annoyed with me half the time or think I am out to kill you."

Ranok blinks, "Do Hy act so annoyed?"

Makeeda shakes her head,"No- like I said I just can not tell. It was kind of my way to see your reaction."

Ranok hrms, "Hm. So Hy see. Vell, Hy do try to be herd to read. Ve'd best hurry, tough. De ferry iz leavink soon." The man picks up his pace, just slightly, the docks in full view now.

Makeeda speeds up her pace like-wise, not finding it hard to keep up, but can not take simple strides," Alright, " she mutters

Ranok speaks easily, even as his stride eats up the streets. He was, after all, used to this sort of pace, "Hy vas hopink, actually. Dat hyu vould tag along. Hy'm kurious to see vat hyu make uf zumddink Hy found lyink around. Hyu kan take a look on de trip over."

Makeeda nods gently, narrowly avoiding a lost child on the street, or just a hooligan on the street,"Alright, I look forward to this mysterious object."

Ranok only smiles in a sort of 'you'll see' way. The man goes up to the ticket booth to secure two tickets to Rynvale. The action was done with easy familiarity, like he'd done it a hundred times before. And probably had. The tickets secured, Ranok goes aboard the ship without further ado. The pair of tickets were flashed, allowing the pair aboard the ferry. Picking among the plentiful seating aboard the ship, Ranok selects one underneath a lantern. And immediately sprawls out beneath it like he owned the ship.

Makeeda idly followed behind, never have taken this ship, she was unsure what was going on, luckily ranok seemed to know what he was doing and more. So as she took a seat like-wise, a brow was raised," I can only assume you are on this ferry quite often, yes?"

Ranok waves a hand, "Vunce or tvice, yah." Or a little more. But whatever. The man reaches into a pocket for a minute, reaching for something. "Now, for vat Hy promised...hm." He produces a mechanical toy tiger from one of those depthless pockets. The tiger had some random cloth attached to it, which was yanked off and stuffed back into the duster. "Here. Hy em kurious to see vat hyu make uf dis." The mechanical thing was offered to Makeeda to take.

Ranok gave 1 mechanical tiger to Makeeda.

Makeeda chuckles, shaking her head," I have a feeling you are being your uite modest with that number- but I'll leave your ability to navigate a ship to the imagination." Her hand is held out as the little trinket is deposited in her hand. A puzzled look creates a new mask on her visage. She bit the bottom of her lip, tilted her head one way then the other. With a small sigh she places it down and peers at it from its level,"What is it exactly? Does it do anything." The tip of her pinkie pokes it," Hehe...its kind of quite in a weird way."

Makeeda hands clasp together as she stares at it with a certain type of awe. Understand she has never seen anything of the sort, it was truly impressive in her eyes,"How..wonderous! How..peculiar!" You gestures encouragingly, "Go on. Pick it up. Look it over. Don' hyu find it interestink, radder den qvaint?" There seemed to be some other point to this, one that Makeeda didn't seem to be getting quite yet. Makeeda finally picks it up, staring at it with a daze in her eyes," Yes, yes I do find it interesting. Whomever made this has quite the future as an invetor."

Ranok leans on his knees, hands folded under his chin, "It hain't necessarily vo made it dat matters, Makeeda." He was trying to pull her gently in a direction. Lead her to the question he wanted her to ask.

Makeeda just did not get the hint, she lets out a sigh, but she takes a shot anyways," Um..where did you find it?"

Ranok was disappointed, but didn't let it show. He tries steering her again with his reply, "In zum pavn schop. It vas rusted trough. Hy took it apart, kleaned it up a liddle. Now it vorks properly."

Makeeda finally gives in," Why you showing me?" assuming that was what he wanted her to ask. Besides that the little creature tugs at her head. An obliging hand takes it from underneah her top hat, placing it next to the trinket. While the panda was bigger, it looked more than just frightened of the mechanical tigert

Ranok reaches out to pluck the tiger, which was winding down now. He balances it in the palm of his head, "Hy vas hopink you natural kuriosity vould kick in by now, Makeeda. Hy vas vaitink for de qvestion 'how does it vork?'. A liddle disappointed. But schtill. Do hyu vant to know how it vorks?" His question didn't seem to reference the tiger. But the clockwork. He wasn't asking Makeeda if she wanted to know how the toy operated, not just waiting for an opportunity to show off his know how. He was offering Makeeda a chance to learn. For him to teach.

Makeeda crosses her hands together, the panda nudging them to go back up in the hats security, but for now Quennel had to settle for crawling underneath her hands," I see- so thats why. I will pull on the hook. How does it work, Dezro? What makes it go tick?"

Ranok says, "Physics und interaction. Mostly. Such lectures are best schpent by pryink apart den tellink." Hands do just that, twisting this bit off to reveal the inner workings. It was just a common toy, really. He'd lied about its value. He just wanted to see Makeeda's reaction. He speaks in a fairly serious tone, "Hy'm not chust ufferink to tell hyu how dis vun toy vorks, Makeeda. Hy'm ufferink to teach hyu. Everyddink Hy know. Become my schtudent, apprentice, assistant. Aeed. Vatever hyu'd like to kall it."

Makeeda 's face turns to stone once more, a chilling seriouness over washing her. Quennel is scooped up and stuffed underneath her hat; she leans back into her chair," I am not sure. I have just seen one of these contraptions today," in all honesty, she was just afraid to let him down and herself down," I.." A recently knocked habit returns as she nibbles on her lip and twiddles with the ends of her hair,"What would I be doing exaclty?"

Ranok was still looking fairly serious, "Hyu vould be learnink, Makeeda. Hyu're a sherp gurl. Hy kan see dat. Hyu're kurious, too. But not in de vay dat iz for de gain uf power. Vat knowledge hyu gain iz for de sake uf it. If Hy hed to pick zumone to teach, it vould be to see dat knowledge be used not for you own gain." A cog is held up, "Hy em but a sinkle man. A pair uf hends. No matter how skilled, zumtimes hyu need anodder to hold de light or to screv in an axle. Hy vould reqvire de same tink anodder odder master vould uf der apprentice. Dedication to de learnink. Hy hain't an onforgivink master, eidder. Onflinchink loyalty iz hall vell und goot, but Hy vill not ask dat hyu giff up hall else dat hyu may hold dear. Hyu vould, uf kourse, hef to dedicate zum time to me, but vat do hyu do already, vith you konstant bumpink into me? Heh."

Makeeda stares at the little toy some more, her eyes blinking slowly as if a sudden wave of sleepiness rolled over her. Her lips purse, and she nods slowly," I guess that does not sound too bad- it would be a lot of fun, and I do need a sort of hobby to take up my time.." a hand extends to the man, " You got yourself an apprentice Dezro."

Ranok doesn't take her hand, not yet, "Hy vill be truddful, here. It vill schtart out easy und fun. It vould not be so much uf a hobby, Makeeda. Chust at first. Vat hyu may be able to find, instead...iz purpose. De urge to learn. Ekspund. Eksperiment. To use de knowledge or not for de bettament uf odders. Hall dere." He was being truthful. While he said that he wouldn't tear her other activities away, that didn't mean it wouldn't eat at her time in different ways. A healthy dose of grunt work, really. The cleaning of rust, oiling of mechanisms, the minutiae that accompanies any sort of learning.

Makeeda pulls back her hand reluctantly, eyes narrowing at the rudeness that followed his action," I am quite aware- my words may seem carefree but do not think for a second that I do not realize how serious this is. Being an apprentice means much more to someone who has been an apprentice before."

Ranok folds his hands together, "Hy em sorry, Makeeda. Hy chust vanted to be sure dat hyu onderstood kompletely. In dis, Hy vould not lie to hyu. Too mhenny around here see tinks chust as 'fun'. De repercussions und de herdship are tinks dat are onekspected, to dem. Hy know hyu hain't onfamiliar vith herdship." A hand unclasps to gesture at her own scarred hands with his weathered ones, demonstrating a good bit of an understanding of hardship from the both of them, "If hyu are schtill villink, den..." That same hand extends to Makeeda, now.

Makeeda reluctantly extends her hand- not so much that she did not want this oppertunity, she did; but the earlier gesture as not appreciated and the vampire had a way of being offended easily with small things like this- like most woman," Of course I still wish to."the hand is taken within hers, shaked firmly, then let go of.

Ranok seems pleased, now, "Goot. Goot. Now Hy chust need to tink up zum lessons. Hy don' suppose hyu hef hennyddink in de vays uf eksperience in mechanics, or schmiddink, do hyu? Henny basics in maintenance uf gear? Henny sets uf tools hyu kan use?" He was either unmindful of Makeeda's offense, or was choosing to skim over it.

Makeeda shakes her head," Nope. I am a fresh slate- I know nothing of the sorts. Besides the fact that a wheel turns to turn a wheel. But that simple fact means nothing to me..." she sighs and ruffles her hair, still a bit nervous about the topic,"tools?" You runs a hand through his own hair. "Kould be vorse. Hyu're a sherp gurl. Most varriors know how to take kare uf armor, tough. Kan hyu do dat? Oil a svord? Take de rust uff it, prevent it from rustink. Dat sort uf tink. As for tools, vat komes apart kan' alvays be done vith finkers, hyu know."

Makeeda chuckles,'Silly me, of course I know how to take care of my armor and sword. Asides from that, I know nothing." You appear out of nowhere, spontaneously generating in this area.

Ranok puts his hat back on, "It's zumddink. Hyu onderstund de principals uf kare, at de least. Most pipple take machines for granted. Dey chust see dem run, not de parts dat go into it. But, Hy tink Hy'll leaff de lecturink for anodder time." The tiger was examined a few moments, though it was more or less worthless to him now. It had served its point. He does put it back together, though, "Hy'll see about gettink hyu zum basic tools. De best vay to discover how dese tinks vork iz to chust take it apart. De tiger iz a goot eksample. Most tinks in de early days hain't gunna be put back togedder, tough. Such iz de sacrifice. But ve schtart out schmall." The toy was offered to Makeeda once more.
