Public Gardens

Betraying the mainly elvish blood of the residents the gardens are, in fact, a grove of intertwining trees. People come here to get away from the hustle and bustle of the town and, quite often, the unrelenting sun, seeking cool shade. Some spread blankets on the ground and get out picnics while watching their children on the beach. Others sit quietly, often close to a tree, communing with nature.

Tyler sits alone at the base of a tree near the center of the Public Gardens in Chartsend. Sprawled out all around him are various metals, vials of liquid and odd ingredients including what looks to be a heart of some small animal. Just before him sits an open book that sports the stamp of the Cenril library, which the human has begun defacing by making random scribblings all on the pages in his own notes - something the librarian surely won't appreciate but then again, Tyler wasn't sure he'd even both returning the book. The gardens are fairly empty and the weather surprisingly cold at the coastal town as the midday sun hides behind a thick fog of clouds over head. The human rambles to himself and provides a sniffle with each inhale, despite being dressed a bit more cozy than usual (a fur coat, boots and wraps around his legs) it is clear the chill is still getting to him as pale cheeks present a pink tint along with the tip of his nose. His hands are quick at work pulling at the objects laying around him only to fiddle with them for a moment before tossing whatever it was in his hand back down to claim another item and compare it to the book before him.

Skylei had awoken late and stayed in bed, rather unlike herself, that morning. It had been too cold for the half-elf to want to brave the day and even now, at what should have been the most pleasant part of the day, she feels as though she might freeze. Wrapped up in several layers, Sky had made her way down through the streets and to the gardens so that she might enjoy some fresh air before returning inside to the warmth. She's almost surprised to find Tyler and his oddments in the gardens and, even more so, upset to see the human defacing a precious book. And it's from Cenril library too; the source of the vast majority of her paper resources. Sky visibly pulls a face, hoping that there is no way Tyler's terrible etiquette will ever be traced back to her before clearing her visage and attempting to draw the human from whatever his work is, "Love, don't you think it would have been easier to work at a desk?"

Tyler doesn't find Skylei's words as she speaks them, rather thinking she is a passerby communicating with someone else. Though as he continues scrambling about and holds a genuinely confused look upon his complexion he suddenly realizes that there are no foot steps to be heard and caramel eyes dart from the silver chain gripped tightly in his palm up to meet Skylei. "Oh! Uh... No?" He shakes his head and offers a short laugh before setting the chain down to begin moving the objects on his left side over to the right and patting the now cleared ground in offering for Skylei to take a seat. "Figured the fresh air and low noise around here might help me focus a bit better, I've got some issues reading in crowded places." It comes to his attention that he has yet to confront Skylei about her vodka encouraged statement a few nights prior. He decides to place the topic on the table while he continues working to play down his excitement of the possibility that Skylei actually meant what she said, instead of a direct question he offers a statement. "So, I visited Frostmaw while looking for a place to build... after a bit of deliberation, I've concluded a frozen wasteland is not a place where I'd like to call home. Besides, I heard talk of wars and such over there. Not something I really wanna' be caught up in. (unless it pays)." He mutters beneath his breath. "So, I figure we have to find somewhere secluded to avoid tax laws. Kelay is lawless and I doubt anyone would come claiming coin, legally. Though the Sage, Milious Plains and the outskirts of Xalious have all drafted my attention."

Skylei shakes her head quite violently as soon as Tyler speaks the word Frostmaw. She would not, under any circumstances be living in Frostmaw. She'd rather move to the Underdark (actually she wouldn't, but if he had been serious about the frozen city, she would have stated that anyway). Fortunately, the head shaking is able to stop fairly sharpish, as Tyler dismisses Frostmaw as a possible home. Skylei didn't bother to explain why she hates the frozen city so much, but instead gestures to the bits and bobs that surround Tyler. "Can you move some of that so I can come and sit down?" If he moved it, she would join him by his side. If he didn't she would huff and puff and go and sit at the base of a tree not so far away. Once they'd resettled themselves, Sky would turn her attention to the places that Tyler had suggested. If there had been any doubt in his mind that Sky's declarations that she would leave with him were naught more than vodka induced nonsense, he would find himself wrong, "I am loathe to move back to Kelay or to Sage. The former because I feel as though I am at constant risk of death, just by leaving the safety of inside alone and I refuse to be locked away like a caged animal. The latter, we are not even discussing." How many times could she express her feelings on Sage before Tyler opened his ears and listened? To constantly dangle it in the half-elf's face is torturous. "However the final two may have some potential."

Tyler allows Skylei to take a seat by his side and as she does, he would lean over and still a quick kiss from her before returning to picking and pulling at the items. The elf being so close now, would be able to see that Tyler had a small needle in his possession and the tips of his right index finger and thumb were bleeding, a tiny piece of gauze held over them when he isn't pressing the open wound against certain items. His hand also on occasion would light up as mana rushed from his fingers though only in very small doses. He goes on about their move, "Well, I've got to admit. There is a place near Xalious where the hobbits call home, and I honestly can't think of a nicer lot of people. It's amazing the respect you get there when you're above three feet tall." He jokes before examining the small heart like object and sniffing it, forcing his face to peel back in disgust as he tosses it back down and snatches his quill from the small ink jar and scrawling something down at the top of the his book - literally a capital "NO!"

Skylei is thoroughly confused as to what it is that Tyler is doing. However, rather than indulge her curiousity, she decides not to stray from the rather adult conversation that they are having. Still, "Tyler… we can't go live with hobbits!" For once Skylei's objections do not come from being racist. Yes, the two of them stand at rather an average height for human and half-breed, but in a land filled with tiny people, how would they fit through the doorways? It would be like being a giant who tried to walk into Kelay tavern. Sky, who is already self-conscious of her tellingly un-elven and distinctly human physique, feels like a lumbering fool most of the time; never mind when surrounded by tiny people. "I mean, I like hobbits well enough, but wouldn't we be encroaching? We have no ties to that community?" Sky wants to live amongst humans or elves. She comes up with a final argument that she hopes will put a nail in the coffin of the plan to live amongst hobbits, "Besides, you said you didn't want to live somewhere where we would get taxed. I know little on hobbits, but I expect their taxation laws are just as stringent as somewhere like Larket, or Cenril."

Tyler releases a sigh as Skylei eliminates the possibility of living amongst the halflings, his heart taking a small hit. Though as she speaks of taxing the human is forced to agree with her and would simply nod. He places the quill back in the ink and leans back against the tree with his head aimed at the clouded sky, a moment of thought given before he decides to speak again. "Right. So, Milious or Xalious... There is Gualon. The outskirts I mean. It's not the best looking place but it's quiet and there aren't any enforcements going about." Tyler reminds himself of Skylei's issue with Orcs and once again feels helpless, and wisely decides not to bring up his admiration of the green skin race. "There's enchantment, the woodland I mean." He hums for a moment before reaching to his side and pulling out a kunai that rests on his belt and setting it on his lap. "OR! As mentioned, Sage. I could bring Vakko along and just have him scare off his own kind, yeah?" Grabbing the tail end of the kunai he pokes it around at the air in front of him. "I don't mind stabbin' a few of 'em, y'know?"

Skylei doesn't have issues with orcs. Orcs have issues with her. But even so the suggestion of Gualon makes her pull a face; surprisingly not because of orcs "Are you serious? Gualon? Tyler… you've been to Gualon right and smelled the swamp? You really want to live in a place where we and everything we own will constantly stink of putrid fetid water? I know that I do not." Skylei firsmly ticks Gualon off of the list of place they could live though she offers him one small concession, "Further up the plains, nearer the outskirts of Cenril would be more acceptable. It's further from the swamp, close to Sage although -not within its boundaries-," Come on Tyler, Sky has made it very clear that you will not be living in Sage any time soon. Give it up. "And because it's near enough to the city, I would likely be able to find some kind of employment so that we can eat." Skylei is growing ever colder where she is sitting and as the human begins to mime, stabbing drow, Sky would reach a hand out to his arm placing it lightly on top and pushing gently downward, in an effort to quell his movements. Should she be successful, she would retract the hand and lower her head onto his shoulder. Then she speaks again. Low in volume and soft in tone, yet filled with a graveness and gravity that rarely touched the half-elf's voice. "Don't talk of Sage again, love. I'm sorry, but I can't. Not even for you."

Tyler allows Skylei to force his hand down and place her head upon his shoulder, the human leaning his own onto hers and offering yet another sigh as it becomes evident that she wouldn't be persuaded on the Sage Forest. His mind tries to find the area near Milious and Cenril though it is a failure. "I don't think I've been near the area you're recommending, I'll head off tonight to go check it out." The kunai is released from his grasp and his opposing hand moves over his lap and finds a resting place on Skylei's knee. "You know you don't have to do this, right?" He knew she would. He knew she wanted too. But this was his final bit of reassurance before he could be convinced one hundred percent that the wood elf would actually follow him out of this horrible fishing town.

Skylei places her own hand atop of Tyler's on her knee. Her fingers would lock with his as he suggests that she could back out of this horribly laid not-quite-plan that the two were making. What did she have to lose by walking away from Chartsend? All she had here were friends, employment, a home, a job and security. What is that in the face of love? Sky has more trepidations than she dares even say and so simply nods her head as best she can whilst it is locked with Tyler's head and shoulder. Pulling her head away, she would lock eyes with her human and nod again, "If you're not here, then there's nothing for me here anymore."

Tyler lets his eyes fall into Skylei's as she speaks and an examination is provided for a few moments time. He searches her for the truth in her words, and judging by the squeeze he gives her fingers he's found it. A small smile is given just before he leans in and places his lips against hers, this time allowing for a bit longer than just a peck. Pulling away he continues his stare for a moment before nodding in agreement. "It's settled then. I'll see if I can't find a decent spot around the area you spoke of, and get things started. I know it sucks, but I'll talk to Mesthak about giving me my old room back until we've got things finished up. Assuming that one girl doesn't still have it..." He ponders, trying to recall the woman's name who he had provided his old room too. He breaks his stare away and pulls his satchel to his lap, unfastening the single button to toss the flap to the side before packing away all of the objects in front of him. "I don't see any reason in me sticking around here, unless you'd like to do something today. If not, I guess I'll be off to try and get things ready."

Skylei :: It is as Tyler's lips reach her own that the half-elf realises that this is truly happening. They are committed to this and there is no way she can back out now. She's scared; rendered near petrified at the thought of giving up near everything she had worked so hard to build in Chartsend for a chance to be with Tyler. But there is no way that he would know that. She looks happy, relaxed and there is even a hint of a smile on her lips when he pulls away and begins to speak. The only evidence is the hands that fiddle nervously with one end of her scarf, pulling at the fabric a little too hard, causing it to break and fray. She rolls her eyes at the thought of moving back into that old room in Kelay Tavern, though realises quickly how much Tyler must hate the seabound town if he was willing to go back there. So there are no objections from the half-elf this time, just the light not of her head and a submissive, "Whatever you think is best, darling."

Tyler doesn't notice the nervous motions of her hands as he is too taken by her eyes. Nodding, he offers a smile and a sharp exhale before leaning in and kissing the woman once more before rising to his feet. "Alright then. I guess I'll be off. I'll see you whenever you make it back down..." Shuffling his feet for a moment, he resists the urge to stay here with Skylei. He was sick of their schedules conflicting and he was tired of never seeing her, but he hoped the sooner they had a place together, the sooner they'd be together nightly again. "Oh, and Sky..." He pauses and allows himself to stare into her eyes once again before concluding; "I love you." Turning on his heel he would start for the Eel, ready to pack up his things and head out toward Kelay/Milious. Unknown to the human that he had left a bit of incriminating evidence behind. Where the human had sat, he managed to leave behind a piece of parchment with his own scribblings about the edge and the center of the page containing a paragraph on a very touchy subject; Blood enchantments.

Skylei :: A very real smile falls on her lips when Tyler declares his love for her. She would never tire of hearing it and she hoped it would always make her feel as she did at that moment; carefree and contented. Just as he turns to leave, Sky places her fingers to her lips and then extends them towards him as her own gesture of affection. She considers following after him but instead is taken by the piece of parchment. Opening her mouth to call him back, Sky lifts the parchment and scans its contents. Mouth closes without uttering his name. Crossing her legs underneath her, Sky very slowly and dutifully reads every single word that is written on that page, just in case her flurried mind has made a mistake. Brow furrows deeply as she comes to a horrible realisation; she has not. A hand reaches up to her forehead, pushing the bangs backwards as she struggles with what to do with this. The scholar in her tells her not worry, the lover is filled with horror. The parchment is folded and tucked away inside a pocket of her coat. Tyler would have a lot of explaining to do next time he saw the half-blood.
