Part of the Returning Niawtu to Vuryal Arc

Summary: Ilydia enters the fortress to find a lycan girl and talk with her, the plans go awry and Ilydia ends up 'rescuing' Niawtu

Characters: Ilydia, Niawtu, Fortress Guards

LOCATION: At the fold fortress

Niawtu || The guards outside of the fort are on high alert, taking this whole bounty thing as though it were war. The Outpost is highly guarded, and any who try to get in will find themselves being processed by a guard. Meanwhile, Niawtu is in her room wearing a hooded robe, and a wooden faceless mask. A guard looks at Ilydia "Hey! You there! What do ya want?" he calls out. Other Fold guards will take notice to this, and there are crossbowmen at the ready as well.

Ilydia sighed now that she had found the place. The problem now would be entering. The guards were strong and Ilydia didn't feel like fighting though she knew that she would likely be forced to. Ranok had given her the slip, tricking her into the wrong direction or she would have gotten here sooner. Still, she stayed ready and checked the chains that were wrapped around her arms. ::Tsk, I can't go all out or I'll end up hurting her and I need her unharmed long enough to talk with her.:: Still, she doubted that any ordinary guards would stop her and she had been with the fold before though not officially. Thankfully, the darkness in the air allowed for her to speak as her eyes turned from red to blue, "Hello good sir, I mean no harm, only entry for one as myself. I am but a simple child here, lost and seek refuge in the place of sanctuary which I had remember to be near."

Niawtu || The guard snorts. "A child eh? Look, child, our here fort is on high alert. No one gets in or out without being processed. Now run along. Ain't nothin' 'ere for ye." He keeps his eyes on the Ilydia as he speaks from the opposite side of the gate.

Ilydia held her hands out and open for the guards to see that she was unarmed, at least for the moment, "Please sir, then process me, grant me safety and protection."

Niawtu || The guard eyes her supicously. They had heard of shapeshifters, from Ranok, and the wraiths were all over as well. "And what would you need protection from, exactly? Heard ya calling for a lycan girl. Can't ye jus' go to an orphanage or somethin' fer the night, kiddy?" the man was, obviously being stubborn about this.

Ilydia smiled softly, "I need protection from my master..." Ilydia allowed her chains to show as she continued, "As you can see, I've been enslaved and I heard a lycan girl had found a way to escape from her master though i have yet to find her." ::Tsk, ilydia, we may need to fight:: :Let us hope not, it will be hard to keep her unharmed if you lose control again.:

Niawtu || Scowling, the guard says "Errr. We can process you. But ye ain't gonna like what'll happen to ye if we find somethin' fishy. Heh." he continues to stare Ilydia down, hoping that this not so idle threat would keep her away.

Ilydia nodded, "I understand. I am sure you will not find anything fishy with me. Should I come closer or should I wait for you to come and inspect me? It is hard to keep my hands out like this."

Niawtu || The gates open and the guard comes out, to process her. He checks her arms, her legs and feet, and then pats down the rest of her body. Soon he's done, and couldn't seem to find anything more than the chains. He grumbles a bit and says "Ok. Yer good with weapons. But we'll need to 'ave some guards escortin' ye around. Keeping an eye on ye." he looks at her, watching her reaction to this.

Ilydia nodded quietly, "As long as you keep me safe from my master, anything is fine. Thank you sir" Ilydia took care not to make any sudden movements. She wanted to enter without bloodshed as she knew her goal lay inside.

Niawtu || Two other guards, very large (strong looking) ones are waiting inside the gate as Ilydia is led into the fort. Everyone is keeping a close eye on her, as well. Soon she is being led into the inner part of the fort.

Ilydia relaxed now, she had gotten in and though the guards were cautious she could easily take out one or two without worry of harming them by accident, still, she had to find the lycan girl first. Or the wraithling Niawtu if she could find that one here. Still, she marveled at the place, it had changed since the last time she came, "It seems different from a year ago, did something happen?"

Niawtu || The guards look at her suspiciously "Its had some work... You been here before, kid?" the guards didn't remember seeing her there before. In the distance of the hallway there would be a sound of a metallic whirring noise. Nia had taken to using an Archmosian Daric as a top. There'd be some humming from the same room, as the girl loves music. Her mother and father weren't even in the room at the time, either. There is a guard standing outside of that door, as well.

Ilydia said, "Indeed, I was once a healer during a war some time ago, I had the fortune to come here briefly during that war. I had originally hoped to study under Arien, but I was taken away soon after." Ilydia ruefully smiled, "Then when I finally found my way to Kelay, I had found the entire place changed by that monster." Ilydia clenched her hand tightly on her arms now, blood flowing from her arms, "That monster, how could people let him do whatever he pleases? Why does nobody stop him?" Tears rolled down her cheeks as she spoke, "Don't they realize how much it hurts? To be hurt by him?""

Niawtu || The guards kind of glance at eachother with 'Oh god, what do we do now?!' looks in their eyes. Then the other guard says "Hey, hey, it's alright. The Fold's doing what we can to help. We're even keeping some family members of one of our leader's here. She got hurt by the parisite too... Seems to be doing better now. But, see, somethings just can't be controlled." Ther guards begin to lead Ilydia past Nia's room as the other talks.

Ilydia nodded, allowing herself to slowly calm down. "Hurt? May I try to heal her then? I mean, if I'm here, I might as well help out, right?" Ilydia looked at the guards as she began to release her emotions, a feeling of wanting to help.

Niawtu || The guard that was opposite of the one that tried to calm her shakes his head. "Heh. No need. Some healers got that mess out a the way. Yeh don't need to see the kid anyway. Probably about time for her ta be asleep anyways. Come on, we'll show you to your room." they begin to pass Nia's room. A voice would be heard, singing, it was in a language that sounded like a mixture of wolf and elf language.

Ilydia||Her ears perked up as she heard the noise, "So pretty..." Ilydia closed her eyes as she began to sing, a strange, sad melody with the elven language of two children from two enemy families become friends. Yet, she stopped shortly for she knew stories were either false or had bad endings-That and the guards likely would not appreciate her singing healing music within their home. "Who is that singer? Can I meet him? Is he my age? If we are, maybe we could become playmates."

Niawtu || One guard shrugs and the other sighs "That there the girly we were talking about. Says she came from some frozen wasteland called Alicorn. But that doesn't matter. No one is going to see her unless they're family or one of us guards."

Ilydia said, "May I speak to her or sing with her? I mean, through her door, of course. I mean, I can't see her but that doesn't mean I can't do some talking and singing?" Ilydia looked at the guards with a soft, tender look even as she tried to release a feeling into the air, a feeling of compassion, of kindness, and perhaps just a little of relaxing.

Niawtu could hear the speaking from outside the door, her sensitve wolf ears picking up the sound of Ilydia's voice. The metallic whirring noise, and singing would have ended, as Nia put the coin back into her pouch. Soon the child stands, and silently walks to the door to listen carefully. She wanted to open the door and see who was out there, but thought better of it. The guards look at her as if she's crazy "Now why, in the name of the gods, would you want to do that?" one asks, with a tint of frustration in his voice. "The kid doesn't need that right now. She should be getting rest, more than meeting new people. Now, come one. Off to a room for yeh." the guard soon grabs at Ilydia's arm, to drag her off to a spare room.

/smiled softly as she spoke, "One short song then-perhaps we can talk tomorrow with the permission of you Sirs, if she wishes it." Then, she sang a quick song, specifically keyed for Niawtu's ears. She hadn't spent all of her time as an empath and a bard for nothing, after all. Her song was simple, one of valiant knights protecting grand princesses, but within those notes, she sent a special message for Niawtu, "If you wish, meet me later in my room. I'm sure you can find the way, I want to talk." She sighed as she pondered, "Maybe I could work here as an entertainer, something to liven up the mood. You know that having high spirits is important to your health." She allowed the guard to drag her, though she walked with him, humming a soft note to soothe her guards, to make them feel more energetic.

Niawtu || As the guards drag Ilydia off to a room one shakes his head and says "You are one crazy buggar, kid." Soon Ilydia would hear Niawtu's voice echo in her mind, for Niawtu has minor telepathic abilities ~Whoever you are, I shall... But that doesn't mean I trust you.~

Ilydia smiled at her guard, "Well, of course, I love helping people in any way I can. When you help people, don't you feel all warm and happy inside?"

Niawtu || The guard, opposite the one dragging Ilydia along, rolls his eyes "Riiight. Well here's yer room. Ain't much. But I think it'll suit your needs. We'll be standing guard here at the door." he says it matter-of-fact like. As though it's a fact that won't be changed.

Ilydia entered her room and smiled, spinning three times in a circle before curling up on the ground. "I will have a very nice sleep tonight, so nice and comfy." Ilydia slowly drifted towards sleep, conserving her energy yet staying awake enough to observe.

Niawtu || The guards close the door and stand there keeping watch over everything. Niawtu's virus had been made dormant, so she could no longer go invisible. How she was going to get to the stranger would be unknown to her. She was not so sneaky with so many guards everywhere, after all.

You || Of course, Ilydia had not been one to leave things to chance as she had sung her songs for a reason. She waited there till she felt Niawtu's energy and opened her mouth as she sang, a nearly unheard note but one that carried a tiring emotion within it, a song of sleep. She sang it earlier than planned so it would be weaker, but with the right tweaking, the guards would never even notice. After several minutes, she could feel that most of the guards nearby were tired and drowsy, several of them asleep, standing, but asleep. Ilydia frowned then, if she had more time, she could have possibly made some of them appear awake, but now there would be no chance of that. As it was, she could tell that the whole plan would be risky yet she sent it quickly, her own message, it would be weak and would take time to reach the target, but she sent it, "Come now and hurry, they wake soon."

Niawtu feels the message, and looks about the room. Quickly she pulls out a pair of sandals, from a package of disguises and places them upon her feet, for her bare feet leave trails of frost. She was not one to totally think such things through, so she then exits them room, her own guard dozing a bit. Soon she is darting down the hall, almost like she was on autopilot, and makes it to Ilydia's room, still wearing her long black robe with the hood over her white hair, and the faceless wooden mask on. She closes the door quietly, and then moves to turn around towards Ilydia.

Ilydia looked carefully at Niawtu before she spoke, "First off, ilydia would like to be friends with you and would like to spend some time with you. I, however, have some more urgent business." She carefully moved as to not startle the girl. She was sure she could silence the girl if needed, but she had no desire to end up killing the girl by accident-nor the guards, for that matter. "I will need you to be as quiet as possible no matter what happens-I do not wish to hurt you by accident. I need a favor from you. You are a lycan, am I not correct? I suspect that you also know about the wraithling, Niawtu. Now, my question is to you... As a lycan, how are you not bound to a master?"

Niawtu gets a concerned look upon her face, which is totally blocked from sight by the mask she wears. "Ummm... Well, I'm a born lycan. I was born in a place called Alicorn... Which is like Frostmaw, only colder and not mountainous... Um. Why would you hurt me?" she asks that, purely out of curiosity. And she is wise enough not to mention that -she- is the wraithling with the bounty on her head.

Ilydia smiled at Niawtu, "Why? If I have to hurt you to not hurt all these guards, then I will take the greater good. However, do not think I want anyone hurt." She sighed, if this girl truly was as she said, then there would be problems. "Do you know anything about the wraithing? I suspect she is connected to you in some manner though I know not how. She is in danger and I suspect you are also. I also have another question, I saw you near that monster, do you know of how to find him? I suspect I'll need to deal with him sooner or later." Ilydia then paused, "Say, what is your name? I never quite got a chance to ask, my name is Ilydia."

Niawtu tries to hide any tension or such of the like, and says "Um. My name's Spirit Moonwater. Nice to meet you Ilydia..." she wasn't telling a lie, really. Her name translates out to that, but Ilydia would never know. "Um... Wraithling? I really don't know any wraithlings, and I'm safe inside of this fort.... Wait. How do you know it was me next to that Timelord bad guy? I'm wearing a hood and mask... Maybe the wraith thingy just looks similar to me..." she shrugs "But I don't think dueling him is smart... I heard he turned someone else into a wraith thing. Ummm... If that's all then I should be going to bed, before Mother sees me out." soon she goes to turn to the door, but as she does a coin tumbles out of her pouch, on her belt, and falls to the floor rolling about until it lands headside up. It is an Archmosian Daric. Swiftly Nia moves to retreive it before Ilydia can take it from her.

Ilydia tensed, she could feel something was off and she intended to find out just what was off. Then she saw it, something she couldn't quite recognize though she could sense it. Ilydia moved instantly as she released her song, a short song not to harm but to confuse her opponent as she sent a warm, joyful healing energy into Niawtu before she leaped at her, the chains quickly spinning from her arms as they covered the ground in a criss-cross pattern near Niawtu. Ilydia then spun, throwing her dress towards Niawtu before she leaped behind it, using her cloth to hide herself as she dug into herself, pulling out a small knife. Landing, she moved to place the knife by Niawtu's throat as she attempted to cover Niawtu's mouth with the cloth so that she would not scream. "No sound."

Niawtu is shocked when Ilydia throws the chains out and wraps the cloth over Nia's mouth *under the mask I'd presume*. The knife at her throat as she was just about to pick the daric back up. The child's eyes are white under that emotionless and faceless black wooden mask she wore. She was, literally, frozen to that spot. A knife to the throat was never a good thing. And she keeps her mouth silent, least she be killed. Niawtu's spindly pale fingers, with claw-like black nails was extended to the coin, only inches away from it. Though she doesn't speak through her mouth she says through her mind to Ilydia's ~What are you going to do to me? I've done nothing to you!~

Ilydia smiled at Niawtu, "I told Ranok that I'd take you out of here, and I intended to do that as friends, but it seems that I must make more haste than planned if you are... Pick up the coin if it is that precious to you, we are going to take anything important to you that you can carry and we are getting out of here. The monster wants you and many people want you... dead... I have too much I still need from you and ilydia would be upset if I didn't do something about you." She grimaced as she looked around carefully. "I will not let you die so easily... I hope you will find it in you to eventually forgive me."

Niawtu reaches the little ways further and picks up the coin from the floor, then slowly moves to straighten up. For a child, she seems to know her way through these situations. ~Very well then.~ she speaks, again through the mind. ~But is there really a need for the knife at my throat? I'm only a lycan child after all.~ she was still trying to maintain that she wasn't the wraith girl that she truly was. ~If you don't believe me then I can show you my arm. I heard the wraith girl has a 13 branded into her arm. I have a hexagonal fractal seal upon mine.~ she says, as convincingly as she can.

Ilydia looked at Niawtu, "You think I never met Cornelius? You think it didn't hurt me to know he went to die and had to let him for his sake? Do you not think it hurts me to see people die around me? You don't think I saw him adopt you?" She gritted her teeth slightly but she finally sighed. "I will bind you. I will warn you, if you should try to wake the guards, you will regret it. This knife is simply the smallest weapon I have to get my -point- across."

Niawtu flinches slightly and then some frost begins to form over her sandals ~I... I didn't know Cornelius was dead... No one told me...~ her mind voice is filled with much sadness. ~Very well then. I can see that there is no way to convince you to leave me be... So you saw me. When I was trapped by Vuryal... I won't make a sound. But, how do you know my father... How do you know Ranok?~ she asks, though she's not in a prone position to be the one doing the talking.

Ilydia quickly bound Niawtu's wrists with chains before leading her towards her room. "We don't have much time, so I'll have to carry your items for now." Carefully, she wrapped her dress around the chains to keep them from rattling. "I'm sorry about this, I really am, but I need you... And I'm sorry you didn't know Cornelius died, but as for how I know your Ranok, let us just say you don't want to know. Don't worry, he is plenty fine. As I've said, I don't want to hurt anyone."

Niawtu looks at the chains upon her wrists and sighs, through her nose. Once again, and for the 4th time in her life, bound in chains. When the start going towards her room Nia shakes her head. ~Nothing important in there. Just my disguises. I've lived as a nomad for a long while when I was 7 until now... I don't require much.~ She spoke the truth, however there was her other faceless mask, a pure white wooden one much like the black one, sitting upon the pillow of her cot. She had worn it for a while, but it would stick out too much. Surely it would seem odd that she seemed to be making the trip easier for Ilydia. Though she wasn't trying.

Ilydia eyed Niawtu carefully for a moment before raising a single brow, "You sure?" Ilydia waited for just a moment before she began to move outwards, a light humming filling the air to be sure the guards would sleep as she passed. Of course, she waited for any sign that Niawtu changed her mind.

Niawtu nods her head ~Yeah. Nothing important... Unless you like tarantulas the size of Ranok's fist... and that's just the body...~ She's speaking of her favorite pet, Eek. A large black tarantula. Her eyes, beneath her mask, are sad, of course. She felt that she was going to be hearing an earful from Ranok for this.

Ilydia sighed, frowning. A pet would be a hassle to bring, yet she didn't mind a large spider being with them, spiders could be useful. She looked at Niawtu as she slowed, "We need to hurry, but bring it with you. Can you call it with your mind? Otherwise, lead us to it, but hurry." She looked at Niawtu, eager to fetch the spider and then leave.

Niawtu looks in Ilydia's direction and shakes her head. ~I need my mouth free for one moment. I summon him with the same clicks that spiders use to speak. It's quiet, and won't wake anyone... We don't have to bring him. He's venomless, so he's not much of a protector... More like an eight legged puppy...~

Ilydia nodded, making sure Niawtu could speak to her pet. "Make it fast though, the fact that you mentioned it means it is important to you."

Niawtu nods and carefully, so as not to cause too much noise from the chains, lifts her mask up just enough so that her naturally raven-black lips are showing. She pulls her lips, almost as though she is barring her teeth and a couple clicking noises escape her mouth for the span of 2 seconds. Soon she places the mask back over the whole of her face and looks down as a shadow-like spider scurries to her. He was, indeed, as big as she claimed. Soon the spider climbs up her robe and crawls into her hood, hiding upon her shoulder. ~There. I guess we should leave now... My parents are paranoid and overprotective.... For good reason.~ she speaks through her mind again.

Ilydia nodded and moved quickly, with Niawtu following her. She had planned to stay the night, but it seemed impossible now. They moved quickly through, following the path Ilydia had taken inside until they reached the gate. Now that would be the real problem. Ilydia turned to Niawtu, "How do you open this?"

Niawtu looks up at the gate and then around everywhere. ~Hmmm... Never... Really paid attention to that... Ugh... can't see well through this mask...~ she mumbles the last part, about the mask, throught he mind speak on accident. ~Ah, that's probably where.~ she says, pointing to a system much like that of how a drawbridge works. ~And if it's not then we'd have to climb it...~

Ilydia moved to manipulate the system to open the gates and then it opened, though not too quietly. Ilydia looked around and could see the guards stirring. ::Tsk:: Ilydia quickly reversed the system, grabbing Niawtu and carrying her in her arms, Ilydia at first crouched from the weight as she began to pull upon her strength to lift the lycan girl. With a burst of speed, she dashed out of the gates, barely avoiding the closing shudder of the doors. She checked her actions off as she ran, blood on floor, check. That would give an appearance that she was killed. A way to signify that Niawtu had run away, possible with the spider gone though unlikely. Guards mostly left unaware? Partial check. Ilydia simply had to hope that the Guards had assumed Ilydia had been killed and Niawtu ran away or tha Something had killed Ilydia and kidnapped Niawtu. Ilydia had remembered to mention her danger, after all.

Niawtu cringes at the sound of the gates against her sensitive ears, and the grunts when she's picked up and carried off to who know where. She didn't particularly like being man handled. But she wasn't going to complain to someone with a dagger.
