RP:Humans Can't Climb Trees

From HollowWiki

Kelay Way

Coblestones of dusky hues line the walkways of Kelay proper, blending seemlessly into the hard packed earth. Gossamer tendrils of latticed plants shoot out across the formed paths, softening steps and providing a spring to your footfall. Loose leafy vines sway with the cool breeze, dancing to nature's own tune. Steps of amber and sage veer south towards a mousy shelter, while the forest parts to an alleyway north. A young elven lass is pacing around frantically perhaps she lost something...

Skylei is just wandering down the path, carefree. She'd made her way out of the tavern in which she's spent most of her day holed up, attempting to do some work, and out into Kelay. Her early evening walk had, so far, brought her this far down the road though her mind is clearly on something that isn't where she's going. Indeed, she manages to walk into several of the people who were walking in the other direction down the road. With quiet apologies and a shake of her head to express her own clumsiness, the Halfling would back away from those into whom she had bashed and had continued her walk. Her hand would every so often reach to her back to ensure that her bow was still where it always sat and that, should trouble arise, she would be safe.

Tyler reached his hand out even further and strained. Palm rapidly opening and closing as he attempted to reach the loot. Moving to take a step further a slip occurs sending the man tumbling from his perch. From Skylei's perspective, if she were quick to look, would head a loud rustling of leaves followed by a dark clothed human falling from a tree to collide with the cobblestone below on his back. A painful groan is given as his hand extends to the tree that held the apple he so badly wanted only for it to fall and strike him square on the forehead. It's at this point that his hand falls by his side with a groan and Tyler lay in the middle of the way in defeat, completely clueless to the fact that Skylei had been mere feet away.

Skylei :: The shock of the noise in the trees leads Skylei to jump up in the air. Her mind jumps to the worst case scenario; drow. Grabbing the bow off her back within seconds and stringing an arrow within seconds, the half-elf is relieved to see that the human upon the past is in fact a human and is her love. Of course, this relief lasts only for a few seconds before the half-elf is filled with concern. Lowering her bow, the half-elf would run to his side and place a hand lightly upon his back. Had he spotted her approach, she would smile, if not she would offer him an affectionate insult, "Oh hi there, stupid. What are you doing scaring poor girls like my by falling out of trees." Her hand would lightly stroke his back in a comforting fashion as she continued speaking, "You're not following me again, are you?"

Tyler initially only offers a depressing moan in return to Skylei's question, his cheeks blood-red with embarrassment. Right hand raises to motion to the tree and about the area as Tyler begins to ramble. "No. Um... training. Isolation. Uh, hungry. Tree apple. Human. Stupid. Fall." A chuckle is offered as he finishes his gibberish and attempts to stand before deciding it best to remain seated for a moment until his head stopped spinning. "But my day was wonderful! How was yours love?" He spouts with a sudden rush of enthusiasm as he turns to lock eyes with the magnificent wood elf, his cheeks still flushed and his smile shaken from withholding laughter at his incident.

Skylei shakes her head and rolls her eyes at his words. Her hand would continue with its repetitive motions upon his back in an effort to soothe his embarrassment, "You sound like an orc when you talk like that." She would offer him a slight grin, "You look much better though." She would point up to the tree at which he had fallen before asking, "If you were hungry then you could have come back to the tavern. Or gone to the restaurant down the street." She frowns at her second suggestion, "Actually, scrap that. The waitresses at the restaurant are an abomination upon that establishment." She would offer a half-shrug, careful to keep her hand's circular motion at a constant pressure upon his back, "But anyway, there was no need for you to be up that tree. What if you hurt yourself before…" she would trail off here and off the last two words as a near whisper, "your fight?" Finally she offers him her hand, should he feel ready to get back up.

Tyler plants his face in his palms and rubs roughly in order to help push away his embarrassment, however when pulling away a spike from the gauntlet catches his hair and pulls at it only worsening the condition. Utterly defeated he can only laugh before sighing and looking up to the tree. "Well, I had assumed... being a fully capable grown man and possessing Ninja like style in fighting that I could manage to climb a tree and pick a simple apple and save a bit of coin." His head would slowly turn and lock eyes with Skylei. "Never have I been so wrong." He chuckles once more as he takes her hand and lifts himself up with a grunt. "Eh, I'll be fine. I'm feeling confident y'know?" His voice wasn't brought lower such as Skylei's as the man had little fear of being had by the citizens of Kelay though this might be foolish on his behalf. "Oh! I got you something today by the way." His hands quickly move to his bag as he pops the single button and begins to violently dig around before releasing an "Ah!" of success. He pulls out a single black rose and holds it out to the wood elf. "I know black is supposed to be associated with darkness and... death and all that stuff but... well..." He looks down to his robes and smiles. "It's kind of my color." He extends the rose to Skylei for her to take, "I hope you like it!"

Skylei would gesture at the ground and at Tyler before shrugging her shoulders, "Fully grown and capable you may be. But you certainly can't climb a tree. Guess you just don't have enough elven blood in you." She would wink at Tyler, though she is sure he already knows that she is joking. Resisting the urge to cross the path and climb up the aforementioned tree, to highlight her obviously superior skills, the half-blood would gesture around them at the path. It is not particularly busy, but there is the odd passer-by and Skylei is a cautious creature by nature; especially when it comes to the safety of one that she loves, "Keep your voice down. Gods forbid someone hears you. Everyone passes through Kelay at some point and undoubtedly some will be headed for Chartsend." She would pout and attempt a scowl to show Tyler that she was not best impressed with his devil-may-care attitude, though the effect is more accidentally comical than anything else. That expression is thrown from her face as she is offered the rose. Several thoughts pass through her head. First, and most superficially, how romantic it is that he would have thought to get her a gift. Secondly, is her joy at the fact that it is a flower, and a flower that, in all its other colours, grew in her beloved forest. The colour is her final thought. In spite of her own raven head, Sky wasn't the biggest fan of black. It was dark and miserable and made her think of Vailkrin and vampires; incidentally another two things she doesn't really like. But still a gift was a gift and she would take it with a happy smile and a shy word of thanks.

Tyler twisted his nose at her mention of someone finding out and decides to leave that battle for another day. His smile is large as she takes the gift and thanks him, a quick kiss is placed on her forehead. "Of course!" He whispers before pulling away a bit to turn his head up to the stars his examination only lasting a moment before he lowers back to earth. "So what are you doing out here? Off to see some other man, oh miss queen of climbing trees?" His voice was in a joking manner and his smile would confirm it as he looked back to the tree that had so defeated him and he bites at his lip in contemplation of trying to conquer the mighty foe. Maybe if he shed off the heavier armor on his shoulders and such he would be able to make his way to one of the high perched apples, for he clearly didn't want the one that bopped him and now rested on the filthy ground.

Skylei would gesture around her to the street, "Nay, just enjoying a sight that is not Mesthak's face or the inside of a book and a list of runes. Plus, the air so fresh tonight. So clean." She would breathe in deeply and let out a sigh as she exhaled, "It's beautiful, is it not?" With the rose in her other hand, Sky would gesture to the tree that she had seen him fall from minutes earlier. Without another word, the half-elf would tuck the flower behind one ear and leave his side. Within seconds she has reached the base of the tree and, with a jump, disappears up into its bowers. From within the greenery, the half-elf would call down, as though she had heard his thoughts, "Do you want an apple then?"

Tyler would hold his arms up and make silly motions with his hands as he pranced about on the cobblestone. "Oh! Look at me! I'm Skylei! I'm so perfect at getting apples while my dumb human is just a master in the art of falling!" His stance straightens as he stares to the juicy fruit that dangled just before Skylei's reach and while his pride told him to reject the offering he would scrunch his nose up for a moment before holding his hands out. "Yes. Yes I do. Very much so. Please. Apple. Thank you." His playful mood seemed borderline hyperactive, a rare display shown by the human though he now stood as a child with his hands out waiting for Skylei to hand him the treasure he had longed for over an hour now.

Skylei finds herself giggling at Tyler's voice, though she cannot see his manic actions as she is too focused upon her mission to find the most attractive apple that she can reach. Passing several that do not reach her satisfaction, the half-elf finally spies one that is up to her high standards. But it is at the edge of a thin branch and the girl finds herself suddenly concerned that she too will tumble from the tree and that would be thoroughly embarrassing after her earlier brag. Edging carefully out across the branch on her stomach, the half-elf shudders as the branch creaks underneath her weight. Her slow movements do eventually come, quite literally, to fruition and she seizes the apple in her hand. Backing up into the body of the tree, the half-elf makes her way down to the thicker lower branches. She cannot resist one last element of showoffery as she locks her legs onto one branch and swings herself upside down, so that she is hanging from the branch. Amazingly, the rose tucked behind her ear does not float to the ground in spite of her inversion, and instead holds tight to those ebon locks. Holding the apple outstretched in her palm, the girl would expect him to come closer and take it from her.

Tyler watches with wide-eyes as Skylei shows off and scrunches his nose again. As decides to hang from the branch upside down he approaches slowly as he removes his gauntlets and tosses them to the ground. "You couldn't just grab one, oh no, you had to go for the pe-erfect one and with such elegance. Oh, I'm a wood elf, I'm super cool and fascinating." His voice would lose it's joking tone as he closed in on the female and pushed her arm out of his way for a moment. "And perfect, and that's why I love you." A smile is given before he leans in and places a soft, loving kiss upon her lips before snatching the apple from her hand and backing away to take a giant bite. The juices rush into his mouth and his eyes roll back in bliss at finally being able to eat something for the first time today. His free hand raises to point back up to the tree. "You didn't see any ale up there did you? 'Cause that'd go great with this." He smiles before taking another bite as he watches the wood elf hang from the tree branch.

Skylei almost loses her grip upon the tree branch as he kisses her. Her mind is overtaken by thoughts of only him and thus, the concentration that was required to keep her hanging upside down began to wane and she wobbles a little. Fortunately, he backs off and snatches the apple, allowing Sky to regain her balance. The feeling of butterflies in her stomach does not subside for a good few moments though, and she could not remove her cheshire-cat grin from her face, even if she wanted to. Pulling herself back into a sitting position upon the branch with slightly shaky arms, Sky would call down to him, "Half-elf. You wouldn't be able to keep up with me if I was all elf." With him corrected, she would jump down from branch and make her way over to him. An affection arm would slip around his waist as her other hand readjusts the flower in her hair. "Funnily enough, I didn't spot any ale, but we can always head back to the tavern if you are in need of refreshment, love."

Tyler makes a whine of distaste as he moved his arm to wrap around Skylei's neck as she embraces him, taking another bite of his apple he complains "But I don't want to go back to that smelly, dirty, drunk infested pig palace." Ironically enough considering he was dying for a drink. Despite the cool air of the night flowing over them once again Tyler had no intention of heading back to the tavern yet. He was enjoying the fresh air as well and enjoyed the one on one time with Skylei. "I'll just pretend I'm drunk... or drinking... or summin'..." Another crisp crunch is given as the man chews at the apple before holding a untouched portion to Skylei. "Want some? It's delicious and healthy and all that other crap people don't care about."

Skylei gestures along the road towards Kelay Tavern, as she adds sarcastically, "Ah, but darling, it's our smelly, dirty, drunk infested pig palace. Besides, Mesthak will miss us terribly if we're not sat at the bar paying him more coin than his piss-poor ale is worth." Skylei would sigh and drop her hand to her side. Letting out a short laugh she would add, "If only my magical talents lay in the manipulation of water. Sadly, there isn't much I can do to quench your thirst with fire." Her head would loll to one side and rest upon Tyler's shoulder. As he offers her the apple, she would shake her head fervently, in spite of the fact that it remains locked to his shoulder, "Nay, you should finish it. Besides, I can always get another. Some of us are actually able to climb trees without coming down to the ground with a bump."

Tyler gave an obvious false laugh. "Oh ha! ha ha! Sky's the joke master. Hey everybody! Sky's got jokes!" He points to his elf with apple still in hand motioning to passers by who seem to move faster at the fear of Tyler being quite unstable. "More for me then." He states taking another bite and grunting as he thinks of Mesthak and the tavern. "I nearly can't stand the place now. I only hope to be able to leave soon, at least to another inn or summin', but of course, you had to make a large down payment and I know that stingy old dwarf won't be doing any refunds." Tyler would nudge against Skylei's rested head playfully. "To be honest I'm getting sick of this town. It's always the same. I've taken a look at the Red Ogre Inn up north and another place over there near the tree we were at yesterday, both seem like a good step up." A final bite is given to the apple before he tosses the core to the base of the tree. "Of course, what I really want is a place of my own. Y'know, one where I can walk around freely in the nude and not be scolded by angry dwarves while woman shield their eyes." A chuckle is given at his own joke as he lays his cheek to rest atop Skylei's head, his eyes turning once more to the great open sky above. A sigh of bliss given as he whispers something inaudible to himself and offers Skylei's arm a quick squeeze with his now apple-free hand.

Skylei would poke the human in the side with an outstretched finger of the hand still wrapped around his waist, "Calm down. You're starting to scare the locals and gods know they aren't easily scared." She was only half-joking. Sky would sigh lightly at Tyler's critique of the town and the tavern. "Tyler, you know you don't have to stay there any longer than you want to. The money is of no matter, if you're unhappy then y'should just move." Secretly, she longed to tell him that he should come and stay in Chartsend. However she knew that with the tournament that it would not be possible, and indeed that her own lodgings in Chartsend were naught but a broken sofa in the apartment of a friend, these thoughts are left unspoken. "Larket and Xalious are both fine. Though to get to Larket I am required to travel through the forests…" She doesn't feel the need to continue this sentence as they had covered that topic a multitude of times. Equally the comment about a place of his own is left untouched as the half-elf is only too aware that the last time that was discussed they had ended up fighting over Tyler's choices in ways of acquiring funds. She hears him whisper to himself, though she does not realise it was not for her ears. Therefore she questions him, lifting her head from his shoulder to look upon his face, "Hmm? Did you say something?"

Tyler allows his lips to fall in a frown like state and shakes his eyes with raised eyebrows. "Huh? Oh, no." Moving from Skylei's side to her front the man would look down to her and press his forehead to hers. "Trust me, I'd love to leave. But I've gotten only forty-five copper left to my name. You'll be proud to know, I haven't stolen a thing since our talk the other night." He offers a smile to show that the rough feelings from the night he mentioned the Kitsune had passed. He lifts his head as his arms find their way around Skylei's neck in a loving embrace. "Do we -have- to go back there? Can't we just... sleep here or summin'? We can use my cloak as a blanket and bag as a pillow."

Skylei pushes her hand into her pocket and there is the sound of several coins brushing up against each other. Though she doesn't say anything, this is the half-elf's only way of telling Tyler that she would be willing to pay for him to stay somewhere else, should he truly hate Kelay Tavern that much. The hand would be pulled from the pocket and wrap around his waist to join her other hand so that she might embrace him closer. Well we don't have to go back, but if you think I'm going to sleep 'pon the ground with you then you are very much mistaken. Besides, one of the drunken louts would likely have off with your bag and cloak" Her head would nod in the direction of the tree that had been afforded so much discussion, "But I don't think you'd be able to balance in a tree to sleep, so you have a choice there really. Sleep alongside me, in a place where you likely won't have your things stolen in the night or on the street and in the cold." The way she phrased it, it wasn't much of a choice.

Tyler groaned as he pulled Skylei as close as possible. "Fine. I'll go back to the gross, nasty, blah, blah bad place." His head rested on hers once more as his eyes closed to allow a few more moments of enjoyment of the outside world. Something then chimes to mind; "Oh... I meant to ask you something. Erm, so you know, erm... Chartsend. Dragon. Lightning and such. My suit. It's pretty roughed up. I managed to buy the supplies to patch it up but have been doing a messy job. Any chance you'd take a jab at it tonight for me?" He pulled back from her to make eye contact as he awaited her answer, recalling that he kept his suit tucked away in his room in the tavern, which suddenly seemed like an awful idea.

Skylei sighs loudly to drown out his criticism of Kelay Tavern. After all, was it not for that place and Sky's love of a quick drink and whimsical generosity, well, the two might never have crossed paths. She was willing to cut the dank place and it's less than charming inhabitants a little slack on those grounds, if naught else. Sky raises a brow at the male as he asks her if she would be able to patch up his suit, "Aye, having seen me climbing trees, do you think I was a nicely behaved little half-elven girl who stayed inside and learnt how to sew?" She was only teasing him, but is seemed to her a fair statement; her physical prowess, certainly in tree climbing greatly outstretched his and she was not used to being treated as though she possessed the skills of a woman. Ironically, of course, she is perfectly adept at fixing up torn garments, "But yes, I will give it a look over and see what I can do."

Tyler seemed taken back at her statement and suddenly realized how the question could of been taken as offensive, though he simply shakes his head to let the moment pass as she agrees to look them over. "Well good. Because, I for one, am ready to lay down. I think I'll just get a drink to bring upstairs tonight." His voice sounded as if he were ready to take off to the tavern but he stayed put instead keeping his caramel eyes locked on the half elf. A cool breeze washed over the two and Tyler admired how Skylei hair flowed freely in the wind, his hand reaching out to brush it back down. He then looked to the rose and a smile would spread before he locked eyes with her, his voice coming out in a soft and happy tone; "I love you, Skylei."

Skylei nods in agreement with Tyler's plan for the evening. Gods, how domesticated the two had become and how quickly. She would look over his damaged garments and fix them up whilst he rested with a drink. The half-elf would sigh a little at this; she may not have spent her day training for an upcoming fight but, though many would not believe her, the hours she spent pouring over her texts was extensive work and thoroughly exhausting to boot. Still, she loves him enough to ignore this fact for the time being, simply smiling and placing a kiss upon his lips, "I love you, Tyler," The girl would attempt to brush her hair down as it blew ferociously in the wind before giving up with an irritated hmph. The cold begins to set into her bones and she gestures along the road again, "Come on then. It is too cold to stay outside any longer."

Tyler takes a moment once the kiss has ended to reflect on it and releases another sigh, the day had been good to him. Well, apart from falling from the tree. However, at her motion of getting a move on Tyler stammers; "Oh, uh, yeah. Right!" Releasing her he would quickly move to the tree and grab his gauntlets from the ground and toss them to his bag before jogging over to Skylei and scooping her hand up in his and interlacing his fingers with hers. Being so close to the tavern, he felt no need to bring up another disguise and besides, he had already scared most of the locals away. So, with Skylei in hand and beneath the beautiful night sky, Tyler headed towards his home. His awful. Disgusting. Smelly. Drunk infested home.
