RP:Her Majesty is Not Amused

From HollowWiki

Just a brief IC response to the new newspaper feature, which I think is awesome. Thanks, Josleen!

The Fallen Star Inn, Venturil

Raidh Jorgunsdotr pushes through the door of the Fallen Star, then through a throng of Riders, in search of her brother. Scanning as many faces as are there, she frowns, for Avaldi is not among them.

There’s a sudden cessation of voices and motion. All eyes turn to the shieldmaiden. The Riddarnir, as one, all drop from the waist into a deep bow with one hand sweeping out in supplication.

Raidh rolls her eyes. “Don’t be stupid.”

Someone at the back calls out, “Yes, Your Majesty.”

Many Riders snort and chuckle.

Raidh folds her arms. “Stop that. Have any of you seen Avaldi this morning?”

The Riders, in complete unison, reply, “No, Your Majesty.”

Raidh’s cheeks have a pink flush rising in them. “Right. Who wants a kick in the pants? Say ‘Majesty’ one more time..”

Dugur Bjorsson speaks up, “Verily, I do not want a kick in the pants, Your Highness. For that would bring me a right royal pain in the arse.”

Raidh’s cousin Hvitr mutters, “Another one.”

Hilarity ensues.

Raidh kicks a chair instead. “One more time. Go on, I dare you.”

Someone mutters from the back, “What’re you gonna do? Put us in the Royal dungeon?”

Raidh lunges at the man, but he vanishes into the milling Riddarnir crowd.

Avaldi enters the tavern in time to watch his sister make war with her own people. The tall Rider’s pale blue eyes are chilly upon the crowd, and his voice booms like the cracking of a glacier, “Cease your japes!”

The japes abruptly cease. All eyes are on Avaldi.

Avaldi says, into the silence, “For surely, no good can come of angering Her Majesty.”

More hilarity. And also knee-slapping.

Raidh has found the source of the Riders' taunts lying open on a nearby table. A bold headline regarding 'Queen Raidh' is followed by a glowing account of the King's new wife. Balling the newspaper up in her fists, she throws it at her brother and with the same hand points a warning finger. “If I find out you've had a hand in this…” Her narrowed gaze promises dire retribution. “Anyway. Get on your horse. We’ve a ride to make.” She storms out of the tavern then, muttering darkly.

Avaldi makes a grim sort of nod toward the door which has just banged shut behind his sister. “Well, kinsmen. It seems that I, too, must go now to ride.” His features maintain a stern aspect as he plants both fists on his hips and juts his bearded chin out. “On Royal business.” Then he strides heroically out of the building, leaving his countrymen to gasp and swipe at eyes that are watering with mirth.
