RP:Forging a Contract

From HollowWiki

Summary: Lycidas seeks a considerable order of martial arms, meeting with the purveyor of the Cenril Weapons Shop and her apprentice.

Cenril: Weapons Shop

Mehrafarina was not immediately within sight from the front door. Melawen was, looking unusually clean given her line of work. From behind a thin, thatched door, a loud series of 'p'KLANG's sounded off, suggesting that a smithy, even if not Miss Carnesir, was present.

Lycidas had finished his secret yet not so secret meeting and now was on his way to find himself weaponry, armor, a new look and outfit to match the mission he had planned. As he pushed in the door to the shop, he looked about for someone who might assist him, Miss Carnesir being the obvious one in sight, and approached without hesitation. "Mam, I was hoping you might have a word with me so we could start a small business venture together, if you wouldn't so mind."

Mehrafarina continued hammering away in the back. Melawen Carnesir was a human (I think) but could give the best Dwarves a run for their money for sheer ruged stance. As the man apparoached, she shot him a quick glance before sidling to the desk. "Oh, aye, I've a mind for business, if you've got the coin to fund it. And y've come to one of the finest in these days. What can I do y'for?"

Lycidas looked the establishment over, staring at the various weaponry that was laid about, while he responded. "I am indeed in the market yet I don't exactly have coin, instead I'm looking to offer services or resources in exchange, perhaps, another tapestry to adorn your wall?" His fingers came very near one of them, depicting various wars that he himself wasn't even old enough to see.. No, the man was far to young for some of these great battles. "I am looking for someone to make me a weapon that'd fit my great size and is capable of being imbued with the finest of magics, can you do that? Oh, and, I'll need approximately fifteen to twenty weapons of a lesser quality.. All in exchange for more resources that it'd cost you to make, perhaps, double the ore?"

Mehrafarina changed from wailing 'p'KLANG's to a series of more precise 'tink's, as if carving something on a finer scale. Carnesir rose a hand to her chin. She wasn't as tall as the customer, but she looked like, if they were to square off without weapons, she might just give the old boy a run for his money. "No tender, but you'll supply ore-and-a-share for the job? I think I can handle that... I'd do the larger sword for you, of course, but I should think my apprentice plenty capable for the more standard fare materials, if'n that isn't no trouble on your end, mister...?" She turned from him only a second, her thick hand reaching to a bell on the desk which she rang likea cow herder. "Mee-RAH! Come in'te the shop a minute!"

Lycidas placed his hands upon the back of his head, pushing out his upper chest, and allowing his back to pop right between the shoulder blades. The middle aged man didn’t make any attempt to try intimidating this woman, much easier to keep business, business, and allow his presence to go without much notice. “Indeed, that will work just fine with me, what exactly would you be needing in the ways of material? I shall be more than willing to get them within the week and capable of providing my fare share of the labor as well.” As she yelled for the one in the back who was still working, he looked towards the back room to see her arrival, curious who the newcomer might be.

Mehrafarina pressed her back to the thatch work door, a billow of steam and soot rising and falling from the hatchway, respectively. She was a younger woman than either of the other two, not even through her teens. She looked at the customer with a soft smile before folding in half at the waist, a thick cord of braided hair sliding off her shoulder to brush the ground. "Greetings, Ser. I am Mehrafarina Tsarran Lyria." Carnesir gave a warm smile, a motherly charm she'd taken on in the presence of the young apprentice. "I appreciate her youth, but she's got smithing in her blood, y'understand. She's made quite a few fine weapons that are already for sale! B'uh, as for the rest, I'll make you a receipt for materials necessary for the work."

Lycidas was taken by shock for but a moment, noticing the fact that the girl before him was the same as last night, “Ahh, you’ve quite the reason to be proud, mam, for this youngling here saved quite a few individuals just the night prior. Placing herself in the path of danger as she ushered them all to safety, was quite the heroic feat.” He wondered if perhaps he might work this into a discount? Probably not, “I was very impressed, even though I only spotted her for but a moment, as the battle was over as quickly as it began.” Once again taking interest in the tapestries around the room, he finally said, “Do you have one of the preklek invasion? I was in that you know.” As if an afterthought he finally turned on his feels to face them both, "I have been terribly rude, my manners are forgotten from time to time, I am Lycidas Nazek, a retired knight of Cenril."

Mehrafarina began to flush as the lapsed knight sang her praises to Miss Carnesir. "She. That was /you/?" She blurted, turning on a heel to look at her charge. "That was you they were talkin' about at the bake shop this morning!?" With that, Mehrafarina stood upright, backing on a heel. "I... I mean, ye-yes. I di-didn't see M-mister Nazek in the heat of it all, but there were briggands holding up one of the vendors, s-so I just tried to direct the crowd out of the danger." Melawen looked like she'd have a thing or two to say to Mehrafarina about all that some time later, clearing her throat before turning back to the former knight. "She does well. Outstretches her reach from time to time, but, she's a tough girl. And... you know, I don't. Actually. The Preklek invasion has been a difficult period to obtain anything artistically inspired from, believe it or not."

Lycidas allowed the shopkeeper to decide the fate of the youngling without further interruption on the topic. However when finally they brought the topic back around to the tapestry the man nodded, “Yes, it is never an easy thing to get it, specially considering the damage it caused to this city and how recent it still is in many of this town’s memory.” He finally turned back towards the duo and gave her a more serious, intrigued look, “If I asked you to imbed gems into it? Could that be done? I plan to store some additional magic within the weapon itself and I’m curious if you’d be capable of just simply getting them in it as well?”

Mehrafarina turned toward Lycidas, her chest puffing out under her apron and the heavy cloths that covered her body. "Of course! I can forge any hard gem into the steel itself, or bend tines around it to make a cage, however you li-"/"Mehra!" the elder of the two cut in, looking between the retired knight and her charge. "My apologies. She's got that fire of youth in her. I'll do anything needing magic work, but we can certainly handle the work." Mehrafarina, upon being chided, cleared her throat and folded in on herself some, her shoulders slinking in, head turned a little. Despite a level head in combat, she was still a young thing, and apt to take pains upon being talk down.

Lycidas watched her output more than a little amused by the prospect of it, “I did not mean to doubt your capabilities, simply to inquire what exactly you two might be able to perform.” He waved off the outburst at the other, “it’s not a matter, she’s proud of her work and rightfully so, for if a blacksmith were not proud of her craft, I would be less inclined to use them. Confidence is essential.” The man turned his head back to face the younger one, “What would you consider the better option for storing magic? I’m not truly certain which would be the better option for this such a thing.”

Mehrafarina clears her throat, having apparently not considered the chance that he would take her up on her offer. The owner smirked, looking between the two of them. "Well, let's see if you've been listening, child. Go on." All eyes now rest on Mehrafarina, who cleared her throat for a second time. "Oh. Well." She began, finally opting to reach for a pocket in her apron, drawing out a relatively clean cloth to dab her eyes and forehead. "It really depends on the arcanum you're looking to focus. Now, I can't do much for arcane enchantment personally, seeing as the arcane is... somewhat lost on me, personally. But if you're looking for specific elemental attributes, different mounting styles are preferential. If, for instance, you're looking for a stone particularly receptive to fire enchantments, it's best to drop the stone right into the molten steel, fold it over a few times and the surface will become raw and hungry for heat. If you fold molten steel over the stone immediately before quenching, however, you're more apt to take a water element on. This of course is different if you're looking to enchant based on a specific school of magic as opposed to an element, but that-." It dawned on her how long she'd been speaking, and once again, her soot covered cheeks went from her dusky brown to a subtle red. "That... That is to say... it... really depends on the sort of magic you're looking to store, Ser."

Lycidas had made the right decision coming here today and was rather pleased with the answers he had received, “I believe you truly know what I am looking for between the two of you. I would simply need to know what exactly the price it from the both of you and ask that you leave space in the weapon for my to place gems inside myself.” He didn’t have any further business to add to the topic, “Do you have anything further for me before I take my leave?”

Mehrafarina practically lit up at the confirmation and Melawen beamed. "That sounds quite fair, sir, quite fair!" She went to one side where a notebook and length of charcoal lay, and she took note of the order in detail, so that the two writers didn't need to go down a plot cal-du-sac regarding pricing of ore, hours for labor and whatnot. Once all was said and done, she looked up to Lycidas, placing the book and charcoal in front of him. "Just give'er a sign here and here, and we'll begin work on your order at the morning's start!"

Lycidas was none less pleased than the apprentice and looked at the paper, reading through it in a brisk fashion. Once finished, he pushed the papers back towards the others, “Now, what do you need from me? And what should I be expecting to assist you with on this?” He looked at the younger one once more, evaluating her potential before going back to the owner. “Other than that, I believe we’re currently finished conducting business, yes?”

Mehrafarina shakes her head. "Other than the ore trade, since you want to assist with the placement of your arcana channelling stone, I should think... three days?" She looked to Melawen, who gave a quiet nod. "Yes. Three days and we can perform the mounting on the sword. In the mean time, we'll work on the more mundane tools for your order. But other than that, we've got a contract!"

Lycidas found their enthusiasm quite refreshing as he moved towards the exit, "i'll make sure to get you the resources we need then." He paused, "Oh, I can place the gems myself, they are going to take me a while to hunt down." He believed it a most reasonable excuse to not be asking two individuals to place more crypticly influenced magic into his weapons.

Mehrafarina saw Melawen give a nod, and followed suit. "Aye!" The woman belted, with a grin. "We'll get the ironwork done and you can take care of the magic. We appreciate the exchange, good sir." The apprentice turned in kind, giving another, less formal bow. "Thank you, Ser, for your patronage."

Lycidas made a simple nod to the two before heading out of the store, he would need to find a way to get the appropriate materials to pay for his weaponry now. Perhaps he could raid Mesthak? Wasn't that the oaf who bought everyone's ore?
